Amazon instant video apk works. So does going directly to Amazon. in the app I cannot pause or fast forward the video. Has anyone else installed this yet?
Can you point us to where you got that app?

nevermind . all good.
works great once you sign in to amazon via web browser on phone, amazon app then works. i think you sort of have to trigger it . Prime video testing w/random tv show. Pretty Smooth quality. Not spotless (Netflix better in quality) but well take it.
Right On!

scan with your phone, install, and enjoy!
confirmed working on my Note as well. When you first browse in the app, it asks you to purchase the content, click on that and it takes you to the login to your account screen. Once that's done, it gives you the free options to watch the videos!!
Quality is not netflix as stated, but damn near close
I keep getting 'Uknown error' every time I try and log in, it says your device is no longer configured correctly to Play Amazon videos, which I assume means 'we can see you have rooted your phone'
I get the same error on my rooted phone :-(
I'm getting the error "Your device is no longer configured correctly to play Amazon videos. You may purchase this video, but playback will be disabled on this device."
I know the Andriod Market won't play rented videos on rooted devices. Guess that goes for Amazon as well. I'll take root over any video service.
+1, but booooo @ this trend. Oh well, if they keep it up, devs will find a way around it
i am not rooted, but i have read about root keeper, or something like that. I don't have time to find it right now, but i will post later.
question anyone who has it working - can you pull up a play bar to fast forward to a part of a movie? i can't...
let me check...
---------- Post added at 12:18 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:15 PM ----------
it works only when you first start watching... and then as it starts you have about 10 seconds before the toggle disappears and you can't access it again.. if you stop watching, and go to rewatch, it asks if you want to start over or resume from last frame
I used OTA rootkeeper to temporarily remove root to get it working. I even tried the newest version of the ATV.apk I could find from the Fire's v6.2.2 firmware (v1.1.23).
I've noticed the same issue with the controls appearing as a video starts & then immediately vanishes. Then you can't get it back. All you can do is play the file all the way thru or pause (by closing the video with the back button and resuming playback. :banghead:

must use voodoo ota root keeper...free in market.
d/l. open ota. must backup root first!
then "temp unroot"
amazon then should work
return root when finished in amazon.
I'm not sure I get your logic. How can a rooted phone serve me better than a phone that will play Netflix, Hulu, and amazon videos, especially if I do use it often to watch videos?
Not trying to disagree with you, but what does rooting really do for you? Everything I read is about people having problems with their rooted devices. I'm a bit new at this , having just switched from IPhone, so go easy on me!

Confirmed this works, just make sure Amazon Video/Play Movies/Hulu apps are not running in the background prior to temp unrooting.

People have problems when rooted because they are not careful or do not know what they are doing. Rooting gives you (to put in Windows terms) full Administrator rights to your phone. With this right comes responsibility, so you must be careful and do research. This is why rooting also voids the warranty. The phone is now open for the user to do whatever they want, and circumvent any restrictions put on the phone by the manufacturer (including those in place to prevent harm to the device). But like a computer with Admin rights, rooting allows you to install any application, any "OS", and tweak the hardware to do what YOU want with it, not what the manufacturer wants.
As far as I know, streaming services like Netflix don't block rooted devices. But in a case like Amazon and Google, where you actually can download the video for rental or purchase, there is a chance that rooted devices can get access to these files and transfer them. This is not a possibility on non-rooted devices. Not to say this is completely technically true, but when the big movie companies are signing the deal with these services, in their mind any chance of piracy hurts the their revenue, and I am sure with Google and Amazon it was just part of the deal.

Have a rooted Thunderbolt. Am trying to install an app approved by my employer to access email, calendar, and contacts from my phone instead of using my employer issued blackberry. I'm all approved but ran into a snag.
It locked the application because my phone is rooted.
None of the pre-requisites mention it not being allowed on a rooted phone, but that's beside the point. Is there a way to make the app think it's not rooted? I'd rather carry my Blackberry around as a seoncd phone, as awful as it is, than unroot my phone and go back to a stock rom.
Didn't see anything when searching...please help!

What email client are you trying to set up? I have read a few threads about people having issues with corporate email accounts on rooted phones. I do not think I've ever read a solution that worked either. Do some searches for Corporate Email with root on the normal forums we all browse and I'm sure you will see the number of people asking to accomplish this is significant.
It's a client called "Good". It basically encapsulates all company information (email, contacts, calendars) encrypted within the application. Also allows the IT department to wipe the data remotely without wiping your phone. Company I work for is a huge company "300k plus) and has always been BlackBerry only. They're just now rolling this out to android and iphone...but the "Rooted?" criteria is messing me up.
I'll keep searching, but have had little luck so far.
Just unroot if it is a work phone, why take chances.
If I helped you in any way please use the thank you button
The first time you launched it, did it request superuser permissions ? If so, and you said "allow", it knows you're phone is rooted by the exit code it got back from the 'su' app. If that happens, try this:
- in your app drawer, find the program "Superuser" and launch it.
- scroll through list to find "Good", then tap it
- depending on your version of SU you might have different options to choose here
- tap the 'trashcan' icon
- exit Superuser app and try your "Good" app again
If that doesn't work, try this:
- uninstall app
- reinstall app
- launch app
- DENY access to superuser rights when prompted
If it's determining it has root access another way, I can't help...

It's not a work phone...it's my personal phone. The whole idea is you turn in your BlackBerry and then they give you a $25/mo allowance toward your personal cell bill, then you can still access all the stuff you need from work.
FWIW, I searched the forum (all devices) for "Good for Enterprise" and hit the jackpot. Guess it's all about phrasing it right. Here's an example of one of the helpful links:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1032268
So, once i have a custom ROM, is there a way to re-root but keep the ROM? Would I lose access to CWM (for nandroid backups)? I assume I'd lose titanium backup and wireless tether...tough choices. I haven't lived without root in so long that I don't know if I can do it...
Hehe, interesting...
Good for Enterprise on rooted phones
Have fun reading !! I haven't checked any of those results yet myself.
---------- Post added at 04:20 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:13 PM ----------
Based on the first link I checked from ^^ above ^^, it doesn't base it on how you respond to Superuser, it simply looks for the existence of su.apk, superuser.apk, etc. If it finds them, it stops. And no, renaming those files, then running it won't work either as it checks every time it's run !!
One alternative is:
Create a script file that a) renames the relevant superuser files, b) launches "Good", and finally, when "Good" exits, c) renames the superuser files back to their original names.

Recent update to this app, according to "What's New" page in the Market (https://market.android.com/details?id=com.good.android.gfe&hl=en): Security Enhancements: Better detection of rooted devices to protect your information You may be fighting a losing battle on this one. Even if you figure a way around it, rest assured that the developers of the app browse Android forums seeing how people are NOW getting around their detection routines and will defeat those next.
Of course, it's POSSIBLE that turning this detection on is an admin-level setting that you could ask the IT folks to turn off. It sounds like it's phone-level though, unless on launch, it first queries it's back-end server and then does the relevant checks on the phone side.
It checks every time it's launched, and can be checked at any time. Sucks.
To be honest, I don't blame them for blocking rooted phones...as sensitive as the information is that will be in the app, I'd probably do it too. I just don't want to give up my custom ROM, wireless tether and titanium backup
Would deleting su and superuser.apk have any negative effects (other than disallowing rooted apps)? From what i can tell, those are what Good uses to check for root. Removing them would effectively remove root, so I would be in compliance. And in theory, i could just restore from a rooted nandroid backup to get root back, right?

This was the closest yet...fantastic app. It does successfully remove su and temporarily removes root. However, it looks like GFE also checks for existence of hte superuser.apk. I've messaged the dev to see if there's a way to hide that, but considering that's what's used to root and unroot at will, not sure how that'd work. Hopefully the dev is smarter than me and can figure something out! But very close.

I wish. This is the only way they allow due to the extra encryption and ability to remotely wipe data.
Two Words: Dual Boot.
Get your regular "At home" rooted rom all nice and prettied up, then when you get in the car for work, boot into a stock rom that isn't rooted for work specifically.

The Amazon Instant Video APK has been pulled from the Kindle Fire and can be installed on the Galaxy Tab 10.1.
A couple of caveats:
(1) To use the Prime Instant video features, you must first purchase something to login. There is no separate login otherwise.
(2) It appears to only work over wifi
(3) If your device is rooted, it will not work.

I have the apk that allows me to play the videos for free that come with the amazon prime account (I signed up for a free month), but I don't see how to 'borrow' a book for free - this also comes with the prime account on kindle devices. Anyone have any information on how to do this on a Galaxy Tab?
Only Kindle devices can borrow books for free with the Prime membership. (you borrow directly from the device)
Two things. One KFHD looks for the device to be logged into amazon, I bet this requires framework not on our devices. Two, probably crashes when trying to view due to same.
Bottom line? Besides logcats to figure things out, I'm pretty sure a system dump will be needed to get the correct files to go with this......

Yeah, I rooted and got market working! I was about to return this, but now I have hope for the future capability of this device. The only huge issues I have now are just being able to install swiftkey, remap the nook button, copy/paste in all fields, and for autocomplete to work with gapps. Otherwise this thing kicks ass! Thank you developers for all the hard work, I will be sure to donate $20 to whoever figures out how to get roms on this. If ICS can run on this, I will be one happy camper.

I'm kind of feeling the same way. With sideloading as an option, I'm getting pretty much everything I need from various non-Market sites. That's not to say rooting isn't worth it - just not a high need right now, except for the possibility of expanding the 1GB limitation.

If you are rooted and own titanium backup you could try freezing the app and installing the one from the market which should install as a data app instead of a system app.
Have you tried clearing the data/cache in the app setting by going settings>apps and scrolling to netfix? I can't recall the exact location since I am at work.
Does it give the same status even if you don't have any updates installed?
ive tried many netflix apps, but this one works for sure. try it, maybe it will work for you too. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/20911810/Netflix_1.6.0.apk
When i try to install the above apk, i get an error message that says an existing app with a conflicting signature exists...which makes sense asi am unable to uninstall the original netflix. Seriously im having a hard time believing im the only one experiencing ts problem?
OP are you rooted? Uninstall the netflix update, then try deleting the Netflix.apk from /system/app with root explorer, reboot, reinstall netflix from the market.
have you done a factory data reset since you upgraded to ICS? I had a lot of quirky bugs right after I upgraded but thy all disappeared with a wipe. Asus really should have included that as part of the upgrade.
anyways, google can backup your apps if you let it, so all you have to do is re-define your settings. I was done and ready to go within an hour of my wipe.
hopefully you dont have to do that but that will probly fix it. good luck!
Agree, a factory reset can fix all kinds of software issues and with Google App Backup it is easier than ever to recover.
