According to their site it has Gorilla glass, but dont know whats the truth LOL

First time I hear that question. Anybody I talked to about the Evo never questioned it to not have Gorilla glass. You can be sure about that, also because of the Gorilla homepage information

It does but will scratch still

I would believe it has Gorilla glass. My phones screen was quite touch and very resistant to scratches. I keep the phone in my cupholder while I drive (bad idea really) and with the way I drive the phone falls to the other side and back multiple times. Every time it falls on way the corner of my cupholder always slams into the screen. Never had a problem, crack, weird looking spot, or anything. Ive dropped my phone 3 or 4 times too and no damage to it. Hmm. I am a horrible person for taking care of my phone...

All glass is not created equally, and the way the HTC reps put it is (not exact words but you know)
" it either has gorilla glass or Our alternative of the same specifications as gorilla glass" something along those lines ..
And at the end of the day it is still 4.3 inches of glass, its very scrachable and very breakable...

I gotta zagg on mine, and it feels impossible to scratch lol

Its just Funny how i never got scratches on my phone until i got a screen protector (cheap one by the way) and suddenly i started to get a bunch of small scratches .
By the way i thought Gorilla glass just makes it harder to crack the screen instead of more scratch resistant
can anybody tell me what Gorilla glass really do

LOL...The scratches are on your screen protector not on your screen....

Though the gorilla seems sturdy, i still don't feel it can within a drop from waist down to the floor (taking out of pocket and dropping is common) so i am careful. but i have no protection on screen either. I have seen scratches on cowboom which sells used 3d's and they have photos, i have seen bad scratches on 3d.
i don't believe gorilla doesn't scratch from falling on cement, sorry.

[Q] HTC EVO 3d have gorilla glass

I was wondering if i really need to keep my screen protecter on or is the screen hard glass thanks
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App
Yes, it does have gorilla glass and the screen protector is just personal preference, I have one just in case...
As far as it says on the gorilla glass website our phone has gorilla glass but I would highly recommend you keeping your screen protector. I already scrached another 3d

Based on what I've seen, I believe the Evo 3D is listed on the Gorilla Glass website because the glass covering the camera is Gorilla Glass. It's my belief that the glass covering the cameras is GG and the glass on the front is not. I can't prove it but I bet if we looked into it, that's what we'd find.

Have you had any success getting a phone replaced for a screen scratch? I would think they would put that squarely into the "your fault " category...

I'm sorry were you under the misconception that the insurance only covers loss or something? Your fault category is precisely what insurance is for slick.
Mechanical or electrical failure, routine maintenance, and failure from normal wear and tear. File your replacement request within 60 days of incident.
Loss, theft, physical or liquid damage and resulting corrosion, and fire or lightning damage. File your replacement request within 60 days of incident.
The screen scratches just as easy as any phone. I had ny EVO screen scratch on me from my earrings. Forgot I had them on while talking on the phone and scratched my screen to all hell. Safe to say doesn't sound like gg to me.

I actually emailed HTC on this question a few weeks ago..the rep told me that neither the front screen or the back camera cover were gorilla glass..he said that they have used a glass that is comparable or better than gorilla glass.but on the corning site it shows as having gorilla glass
http://www.corninggorillaglass.com/products-with-gorilla/htc
No offense but most everyone knows that the reps aren't exactly the most knowledgeable of people.
If it's listed on Corning's site it must be true, they can't really lie about where their product is and isn't being used, it's bad business.
Also my phone's glass is pretty damn strong, I've dropped it on a metal seat belt and I don't have anything to show for.

Its been officially stated that the screen is GG and the camera lens protector is just plastic (albeit a strong plastic).
I dont bother with screen protectors. My Evo 4G (not GG) never had a protector for a little over a year and never had an issue. If you treat your stuff right, it should stand upto any "normal" abuse. Of course its preference.
Yeah, everyone sweats over whether it has Gorilla Glass or not, it's still just glass. Every phone now has hardened glass, they all don't scratch from metal, and they all scratch from the same sand and what not. Who cares if it's officially Gorilla Glass or not?
FYI:
EVO 4G x2. Evo# 1 never got a scratch. Evo #2 (Wifes Evo) scratched......insurance replaced without a deductible (I have no idea how that happened...lol).
EVO 3D's NAKID as well...and will be....for me screen protectors just make the touch screen feel crappy......

Most metal is harder than any kind of glass (Except maybe gold). Specially if you have any kind of gemstone in your earrings. Gorilla glass != Indestructible.
For what it is worth:
I dropped a small hardened steel drill bit from 8 inches and it chipped my screen. (this was by accident as I had it under my work station). The chip immediately turned into a crack the moment I touched the phone. I bought a replacement digitizer to replace myself...
The outcome: The outer glass/digitizer is 1.40mm/0.055in thick. It is fairly tangible. Replacing the digitizer is a b---h, and I mean that as the LCD and digitizer cannot be accessed easily, if at all, from inside the phone.
And, my new screen got a tiny scratch from a razor blade on my work desk. I do not think this is a specialty glass. I would advise caution and possibly a case & screen protector...
i dont know about you guys but my Evo3D has DIAMOND GLASS !!! I have a pure diamond screen. **** gorilla glass !!!!
There are so many reports of broken and scratched Evo 3D screens already, why take the chance. Just search the forums, you'll find a several gouged and shattered screens here. Phone insurance doesn't cover cosmetic issues (like scratched glass), only functional issues.
Taking care of the phone helps, but accidents happen. I had 4 Evo 4G's, 3 were mint, 1 had a scratched screen, they all had screen protectors and cases from the time they came out of the box.

Ummm actually, Corning has videos of bowling balls falling on gorilla glass on their own website. I think its supposed to be very strong* as well.
*from certain force vectors. trust me, I dropped my photon less than 3 ft and crushed the screen. It landed perfectly flat on a hard surface.
Either way, I am extremely impressed with the scratch resistance - I've taken razor blades and thumb tacks to it and could not scratch it no matter how hard I tried.
Just wish is was a bit more resistant to drops.
Just want to thank for those who watched my video, If you can help me get more views I would appreciate it

Coming from a samsung transform that had a screen protector and still somehow managed to get all scratched up underneth from my keys in my pocket, Ill still definately be using the screen protector that came with the otterbox commuter case. I'd hate it if I managed to scratch the piss out of this screen. lol

I us the ZAGG screen protector its like stab proof and whatnot. I love it. Been using it since my first smartphone. They can get somewhat pricey depending where you buy them i usually buy them at radio shack and have them put it on for me. I asked an actual zagg person if they have any for the camera and they said no something along the lines of the flash reflecting off the plastic and into the camera. its believable..
If you think you are even remotely likely to drop your phone or accidentally have something rub up against it I would recommend you just get one. I have a ZAGG and it is great so far. I figure if you are going to be carrying around something so expensive that you may as well have it protected.
Screen protectors are relatively cheap. I've read enough stories of even GG phones getting scratched in pockets, that I prefer to be safe than have to fork out for a new screen or deal with scratches, Gorilla-glass or not.
I have a Clear-Coat on both mine and my wife's E3Ds. Works great, reduces fingerprints and smudges, and you don't even notice it's there.
What about those dual cameras on the back.....is there a scratchguard available for the back....

[Q] Scratches resistance

Hi guys, i have a question for those of you who own this awesome device since the intl version came out... what are your thoughts on the scratches resistance of the screen, and more generally the device itself?
I just got my NA version three days ago and i was wonderinf if it was worth putting a screen lrotector on it or the screen is scratches proof?
Thanks!

It's really sad, if you think about it. The GS3 has Gorilla Glass 2. If anything, it should be much harder to scratch.
That being said, my employer ordered a bunch for a launch event and all but one came back with multiple scratches on the screens. I get the distinct impression that even the iPhone's screen is more scratch resistant. Why are we going backward?
No gorrilla glass screen is scratch resistant. Sometime or the other it will definitely get a scratch. Be wary of the small minute particles like salt, dust..etc if there aint any screen protector....
If u dont want to apply a screen protector and want to keep it scratch free, here's how :
1.Take the phone
2. Put it in its box and seal it
I guarantee screen will not get a single scratch.

I have had many phones and I have never used a screen protector on any of them. I also have never scratched the screen on a single one. So, I can assure you that there is more than one answer to "not scratching your screen" and your ridiculous response is wildly unnecessary.
Gorilla glass is supposed to be scratch resistant. That's basically its entire claim to fame. What it isn't is shatter resistant. It is hardened to the point where things like keys and razor blades won't scratch it, but it becomes more brittle and a direct impact will shatter it. This information is freely available on the web.
In the case of the glass on the GS3, it doesn't even seem to be scratch resistant. I have heard cases of the HTC One X scratching easily as well, and it also uses Gorilla Glass 2. Very disappointing.

This is the common misconception of people who think gorrilla glass is scracth resistant. Gorrilla glass only protects the screen from cracking when slipped from the hands or pocket. Its not scratch resistant.
Gorilla glass 2 is more thinner and more fragile than Gorilla Glass 1.
The main weakness of gorrilla glass is small minute particles that have settled on the screen.
Dont believed it...???
Take a particle of salt on your fingertip and spread it on the screen. Have a look on clear sunlight and you will see a light scratch (depending on the force).

gorilla glass IS made to be scratch resistant and not drop resistant.
also gorilla glass 2 is not more fragile then gorilla glass 1, gorilla glass 2 is 20% thinner but same strength
personally they shouldnt have made it 20% thinner instead same thickness and 20% stronger

My cruzerlite cases put a couple light scratches on my marble white gs3 after a day or two. Probably dust that was trapped inside, i can always buy a new backplate.
Honestly, I'm of the opinion (<--note that keyword) that anyone with scratches on this device is doing something wrong. I've had the phone just over two weeks. I don't have a screen protector, or even a case for it. It's just like it was when I got it out of the box (except that I actually put the battery in it and removed all the sticky transparent film from it). I constantly have this in my pocket with nothing besides the occasional spare change to keep it company. No scratches. At all.

This is just one helluva coincidence; I was looking for this yesterday! I was put off by a scathing review of Zagg's HD protector that stated it scratched easily, which somehow made me aware of Spigen's glass iPhone 5 protector and their lack of one for the ELTE.

Haha… funny point, but if I wanted to have the look and feel of a human with the ability to replace damaged skin, this would be the way to go (even if it basically turns me into Buffalo Bill). As for the “bullet proof vest” part, I don’t think that the Zagg shield would be any better than a glass sheet at protecting the screen itself against a direct impact; their main purpose is for scratch protection.

A screen protector isn't meant to prevent breakage. It's merely there to protect the screen from scratches and gouges from every day use. Really, even a crappy screen protector would still come between the elements and the screen itself, so it would serve this purpose plenty well.
If there was an unbreakable screen protector with impeccable light transmittance then I'd wonder why our screens aren't made out of that instead.
Not a solution to your glass screen protector, but just so you know that at least a few of the regular style aren't bad at all!!
I can personally attest for the Zagg HD and the Otterbox screen protectors. My parents and I have all had the Zagg HD screen protector on our Evo LTEs since launch day, and none of them have a single mark on them! I have since purchased a white Evo LTE (since they weren't an option during pre-orders) and have the Otterbox installed on it. I like the way it looks and feels MUCH better than the Zagg HD!!! I would actually replace the Zagg HD with an Otterbox on my black Evo LTE if I wasn't planning to sell it. The Otterbox isn't even visible unless you are really looking for a screen protector! It feels just like the bare screen, better than any screen protector I've ever used in the past(which is quite a lot as I've been using touch screen smartphones for almost 6 years now and update phones at least once a year). Either choice is pretty scratch resistant! I assume the Otterbox would be the easier of the two to scratch, as you'd have to be trying really hard to leave a permanent scratch on the Zagg as it "heals" itself from any marks within a couple days. That said, I still think the Otterbox is a better choice as I baby my devices anyway, and the looks/feels outweigh the scratch resistance of the Zagg. Just throwing in my 2 cents...
Sent from my White Evo LTE running MeanBean, using XDA Premium
I've been using the Zagg HD since it came out and I love it. Yes when the screen is off and I hold it at certain angles I can see minute scratches but I can't feel them or see them when the screen is on. The other thing I like about it is it does feel really close to what the screen actually feels like. The normal Zagg does not.
