I can view files with Astro File Manager.
When your device goes in standby it disconnects from wifi but reconnects automatically when it's on again, doesn't it? My tablet will so it's not a problem for me at all, btw, it will save battery power this way.

Cannot view files with astro? Does it locate them? (press Up on left hand menu and you should be able to see sdcard2 in the main panel).
u can use ur external-SD with alternative Apps from Market. some examples are:
-MX Videoplayer
-Quickpic
-Documents to go
-Power AMP
-ES File Explorer
but if u want to use the Apps from Sony, u have to mount ur external-SD in ur internal-SD.
btw. external-SD = /sdcard2/ - internal-SD = /sdcard/

Okay. I am having problems with my usb storage. When i connect my phone to my computer via usb it pulls up as a disk drive right. I recently had a Rom that used "Usb mass storage" to connect as disk drive which gave me a higher level of access. I put the rom zip that i am using now on the root of my sd card using the "USB mass storage". Now, with this new rom, whenever i connect my phone to the computer i dont see my rom zip file on the root of the sd card. I cant find it anywhere. Do i need to format my sd card or something? Any ideas are appreciated. Please and thanks.
Stupid question probably, but do u have it on sd2? The regular stock roms only let u access sd2 from computer. HTC sync option lets u manage sd. At least that's how it is on mine.

So. Should I mount with HTC sync instead of as a disk drive? I done rightly know if it is sd 2 right now

Sure, why not. Do u have a sd card in it or are u just using the internal sd?

Ok, well can u see any other files when u select usb storage or whatever it is? If not try reformatting the sd card on your computer. Should be able to right click on portable drive.
When u try HTC synch can u see any files on sd or sd2? On your phone make sure the Rom zip is on sd2 or extsd and not sd. If that's the case then move it over to sd2. Then try mount as usb storage.
I have been trying this entire time to download the hct sync manager without success until now. It pulls up and syncs the music and such to my phone but nothing else. I cant view anymore than before. I booted into recovery to find exactly where i put the ROM zip and it is in /sdcard
When i open the phone on my computer i am looking into /sdcard2 . Did my card become partitioned or something? Now both of those are the external sd. Any ideas to get to where i can view it all. Like truly view the "root" of my sd card? On the card it would just be / How can i view just that on my computer? And ideas? Thanks
Move the Rom file from sd to sd2 in astro, es file manager, root explorer, whatever file manager u have. Then connect to computer and select usb mass storage.
U cannot view sd(1) on computer without HTC sync. Usb mass storage option lets u view sd2 only.
If u are having issues delete your old drivers and HTC sync then install again.
I'm not going to continue to repeat myself. Really don't understand "root" of sd card. U don't need a rom to be on root to view it on computer.
What does it do when u move it to sd2 then view on computer with mass storage?

Okay. Firstly, I don't need to move the ROM. I already flashed it in recovery. All I wanted was to see if I did something wrong that limited me to only be able to see that portion of my sd card. I know that my rom does not have to be on the root of the SD card. the only reason why I brought up was too create some correlation. I appreciate your help but this was merely for curiosity sake

Are u trying to view the android file system? There's no way to really do that. Its kinda like only the computer or phone can view sd card at one time. Since phone is actively using file system.
Maybe if u could explain what u want to do I would understand more. U want to view what exactly?
Root explorer lets u view every file on your phone. Have u tried that? Copy every file on root and paste to sd2= profit? : /
I'm new to playing around with Android and (after reading for about 10 hours), did my first root and custom ROM last night (shostock3 with jeboo). Things seem good but I do have one problem I just can't shake. When I transfer files from my PC to to the internal SD storage, I can browse the new files on the phone. When I transfer to the external SD card I cannot browse the new files on the phone - it's like they're not there. If I copy a file to the external SD within the phone it remains visible.
There's one exception: image gallery finds and displays the external SD card image and movie files.
Tried rebooting, running SDrescan, not working.
I can't seem to connect via MTP at all anymore, unless I'm missing something. I plugin and have to swipe down and select the mass storage option.
Thanks for your help!
Are you sure you're looking in the right place for the external sd?I know the path has changed and can vary. What file explorer are you using?

I'm using ES File Explorer to look in /sdcard/external_sd. A change in path is the first thing I suspected but I didn't see any similarly named folders.
I installed Asro file manager and can now see the files in "My Files 2". Now I've just thought to check the path of the external sd card images that Gallery found and it is /storage/extSdCard/DCIM.....
I guess /storage the new location and ES File Explorer doesn't see it because it doesn't support viewing back to root? Is the folder that used to port to the external card, "external_sd" dead and worth deleting now?
Why won't my phone connect as an MTP device anymore?
I'm now able to direct Titanium backup to my backup folder in the external SD card (I just had to navigate back to root to find the /storage folder). Next problem is that I can't seem to restore my call logs.
Thanks for any help.

ES File Explorer does support root, you have to enable it in the settings.

Try hitting the Favorite button and tap on the /storage/sdcard1 or anything under there.
Do not go to HOME then external_sd.

I don't think "root access" needed in this case.

You are a ROCK STAR!
I have a 32GB SD card partitioned with 22 GB for media storage and 10 GB for apps with link2sd. It works well except when I have to reboot the phone, it takes "forever" to scan the card after reboot. During that time, I can't use anything app that needs storage. Is there any trick to speed it up or eliminate the scanning?
Thanks.

CM10.1 won't give you that issue

CM 10.1 can only be flashed with a unlocked boot loader, right? At this point, I think I want to stick with to avoid that route. Thanks.

Thanks but changing the cache size doesn't seems to do anything on my JB phone. Also no luck with Rescan Media Root from play store.

if you have root, you can use something simple like rom toolbox lite to speed it up.

use SD boost to increase cache size at boot time? I tried 2048 and 4096 KB and no improvement is seen with SD scanning.
I have the same issue on my P768, im using a stock based rom, jelly cream rc3 which is a modded v20a and my 32gb card isnt partitioned. It can take up to 20 mins or longer to scan my SD. I wish there was a working CM rom for the P768. I cant do without the camera!

I think I found a solution. I disable "media storage" with "startup manager" app. Now no more scanning at boot up. For some reason, "media storage" is not showing up when I use "rom toolbox lite"'s startup task manager.
i had same problem after upgrading to JB. it would take what seemed like forever. i saved sd card data to pc, deleted folders i wasnt using and some created by other phones. reformatted sd card and re-transferred data. now it scans fairly fast.
If u have root:
1. Download this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.addz.mediascannerroot
2. Open the app
3. Disable the scan before the scan ends
4. Reboot

Wait, so I download this, reboot. Wait until it starts to scan my files, open the app, press disable scanner, then reboot again?
Put a .NOMEDIA file in all folders other than those meant for media . Note the filename of .NOMEDIA in UPPERCASE. That could help.

It does work. I have tried Rescan Media ROOT before but it didn't work because I disable scanner when the phone was not scanning. Disable scanner during scan seems to be the key.
i used to able to save my files to the SD card and now after reinstall everything.

you cannot move all folders to sd-card or generally in new path.
for example for whatsapp; that s the directory created by app itself and may use it in future
if you remove this folder whatsapp will recreate it when needed but maybe u miss some files from whatsapp.
(in Android 4.4.+ 3rd party Apps cannot create file in External Memory (only system app can do this))
sd-card is good for your media music, photos, videos
if you don't want to miss any important folder use this setting;
Settings > Storage > (scroll down) Transfer Data to SD card
:good:
Hit Thanks if it s useful

What I want to do is avoid whatsapp and other apps to save media in local storage.

So App won't do this
unless u use Root App
app that get root access (so u need to root ur device and etc.)
example of pre-install app is Camera App that has option to store both in internal and external but other app cannot do this.

YES you can do what you want, get an app called foldermount, with that you can symlink ANY folder you want (including WhatsApp, large game folders, camera directory or whatever) from your internal sd card to the external sd card.
Edit: sorry you will also need handle external storage from xposed for it to be able to use the external sd
Your welcome

I set spotify to download two playlist in order to be able to play them in offline mode.
Spotify alone is occupying 7gb of my internal memory. How can I move those files to the memory card (sd) ?
Folder mount
I tried wiping my SD card but it is asking for a PIN password.
I have no idea what is it.
I tried 0000 1245 but failed.
Does anyone know?
Any info in any of those XML files?
