[Q] SMSC problem - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I got a problem with the smsc on my phone. I'm running CM9 at the moment. Also tried MIUI and CM7 but that didn't word either.
When asking for help from my provider Mobile Vikings(Belguim) they told me to factory reset my phone. Wich I did but without result.
So I have 2 questions.
1. I thought factory reset would bring my SGS2 back to the original settings and also the 2.3.3 version that was installed when first turning on the phone. Is this not the case?
2. Does anybody know the answer to my problem?
Thanks!!

You have to find/reflash the original stock firmware that came with your phone to get it back to a state similar to when you bought it.
Go to Sammobile.com & search for your firmware & follow whatever instructions they have for flashing firmware downloaded from their site. Then do a factory reset. And if you need to send the phone in for warranty service or whatever, get a USB jig from eBay.

Thanks MistahBungle, but how do i know what my stock firmware was? I know it was the 2.3.3 but i found different ones.

[Q] Help with 're' branding S2 please???

I got fed up waiting for the latest update on my O2 S2 so thought i'd try the 2.3.4 update. I didn't at this time realise it was an XEU firmware.
Using Odin was straight forward and I completed the flash and started using the phone. I got some unexpected lag and thought i'd revert back to the original firmware but it is this that is causing me a problem.
I attempted the reflash with the O2 firmware (KE7),
I now get the O2 bubbles on start up (which was replaced but a fragmentated S on 2.3.4, official samsung I believe) and in phone settings its says 2.3.3 however when I connect to Kies it says the CSC is XEU and not 02.
I tried the '272' imei trick but only get 1 option XEU.
Can anybody please help me revert my phone back to original???
Here's hoping somebody can help..
Branded rom /provider rom post or how to debrand O2 phone posts from Dev section .
Essentially flash the O2 firmware through Odin

Thanks for the reply. I 'think' i have solved it now. I had flashed it with Odin but only once i had cleared the partition cache did Kies show the right firmware.
It does mean i have lost all of my apps so now am looking at a good backup app.
Any suggestions for a non rooted phone?

You can't backup apps unless your rooted as these live on the root of your phone.
You can root and keep the phone stock and not flash any custom roms.
Im on o2 uk. Had the xeukd1 csc before i switched.
If any of my friends asked me i would tell them to root and install a custom rom and kernel.
The themes and tweaks available are great. The biggest thing for me is the battery life. I now get only 1% battery drain overnight (7 hours) someone else on the same rom and kernel went over 6 days without charge.
Never would have got this before.

Many thanks for the reply.
It certainly sounds very interesting. I am new to rooting only having learnt about the basics of it over the past couple of days.
I presume therefore that should the need ever arise restoring the phone to its original firmware spec (as at time of purchase, and should warranty work be required) is possible?
I think I need to go and read some more on rooting.

Go to intratech's thread in original android development find out what firmware modem and csc you're using download and keep in a safe place. This is then your return to factory settings if you have a warranty issue.
If you need any help pm me as I won't always be popping in to this thread.

[Q] I need help returning to stock GB 2.3.5 ROM

I was on Samsung GT-I9100 / I9100XXK14 / 2.635.7-I9100XXK14 before rooting and flashing custom roms. On 2nd flash I lost all sms and call logs (nothing else) while using Titanium Backup Pro. I also had backed up in Kies. But found out I can't restore from Kies becuz it doesn't recognize custom rom. Purchased TB after I lost original XXK14 firmware due to a botched backup on my part. Can anyone help me get back to my XXK14 firmware temorarily so I cans restore sms and call logs?

Hey search the forums lots of helpful threads to use odin to flash back a stock rom.
Heres a link to a specific stock rom, KI4 is in the list.

Saw this link earlier but the XXK14 download link is broken and I'm not knowledgable as to what other stock roms I can use here in the U.S. on AT&T (not sure that carrier is an issue other than the fact ATT is GSM / HSPA+ 21 Mbps). I'd really appreciate directions to an alternate XXK14 link and/or another compatible GB 2.3.5 stock firmware.

Alternatively use Check Fus, Google it.

Here is what you need to do
1. Get Check FUS downloader: LINK
2. Run FUS Select you Carrier / Region / Model and Download the Stock firmware for your phone.
3. Backup anything you need. You will need to wipe the data and the cache from Recovery mode before you flash the downloaded Fware..
4. Use ODIN and Flash the Downloaded Stock Firmware to your phone. You will loose the root access and you should have your stock back. Yeah before Install Wipe data and cache.
Lemme know if that works. If any doubt... just ask. Dont do anything wrong i'll try to help if i know the answer.

Did you try the "firmwares" link??
I have concerns about you flashing your phone if you can't navigate a website... No offense. I'm not trying to be insulting, but it's really easy to find.
Hi guys,
I'm a newbie so please bare with me. I have a Virgin Mobile UK Samsung Galaxy S2 which was on Gingerbread 2.3.4 or 5. I foolishly flashed it yesterday to yes you guessed it, ICS 4.0.3. Now as far as the phone itself is concerned, everything is working pefectly fine. No issues whatsoever except now I've noticed that my carrier has changed to T-Mobile UK even though the phone has full functionality on the Virgin network still? Also I get the "This device cannot download firmware" message now when connected to Kies.
Have I totally ruined my phones chances of downloading any official firmware in the furture now? And how can I correct the display of my carrier? I'm guessing I will have to find a stock ROM from somewhere and re-install. But doesn't that do something to a ROM install counter someware on the phone?
Thank you in advance.

You are fine. Nothing has gone wrong. Use the FUS and get the stock firmware for you phone. Flash it via ODIN... Read the above few posts.
For your Flash counter and Bin counter, You can reset it back to zero. Look for Triangle.apk . TO use that you need to have a rooted device. Super user permissions... so run Triangle while you have rooted device? If not then root it to reset the bin or flash counter ( If you want) or just flash back the stock Fware..
No you havent ruined you phone. You can download all official firmwares. Just wait for the offical ICS for your region.
Hi,
Thanks for the quick reply. So just to clarify... If I re-install the stock firmware there will be no need to root the device and install the program that resets the counters?
Also, I've noticed that Virgin Mobile UK isn't listed under my territory?
Thanks again.

[q] sgs2 "not registered on the network"

Hi there.
I'm running into a specific problem with my SGS2.
After successfully upgrading to multiple Stock ICS from this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1544487 , I keep receiving the same message when I try to make a phone call : "NOT REGISTERED ON THE NETWORK".
The phone is not picking up my network and it's on Emergency calls only.
At first, 3G/HSPDA connectivity wasn't working. Only WiFi was working.
However after following a procedure on another thread, I entered the code *2767*3855# immediatly after flashing yet another stock ICS rom.
To my surprise the 3G/HSPDA connectivity was working this time. I took as a sign of victory, but that was only short noticed since the phone was still on Emergency calls only and it still gave me that network error message.
Guys PLEASE I implore you to help me find a solution.
I've flashed the above stock rom (using ODIN of course) in the following order :
1.) I9100XWLP4_I9100LUXLP1_LUX
2.) I9100XWLP7_I9100OXELP7_SER
3.) I9100XWLP7_I9100XEULP5_XEU
What could have possibly went wrong ?
I reside in Cape Town, South Africa. I did the flashing for a friend and his network works just fine....
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Kind Regards,
Steve

Bumping posts in a short time space is not allowed this is not Samsung service fix your phone forum .
First is to check you have the correct IMEI on your phone .
If not then restore your backed up EFS folder .If you have not backed up EFS then you need to start reading the IMEI and EFS posts .

Hi i am having the same error, i have tried two different versions of ICS both are official versions. They both install fine and after the phone reboots it goes straight to the home screen without asking for the code. The data network is not active as well as the phone. When i try to make a call it gives me the
"not registered on network error"
I have even tried updating via kies which produces the same result.
The last two installs i tried was with ODIN.
I have gone back to version 2.3.4 which is working fine
any help will be greatly appreciated thanks you

Definately the firmware for South Africa; "Samfirmware shows both to be either Vodafone or XFM".
While on Gingerbread backup your EFS using HC-Ktool or any other EFS backup tool if thats not available in your country.
You could then if needed restore using the same app.
What sort of code do you normally have to input before you get to your main home screen?
Do you do a complete data/factory reset and full wipe/format system before installing new firmware.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
Hi it's a sim card code i input before i get to the home screen. I did a factory reset and erased the usb storage, and then i used odin to load ICS on the phone.
So you say it must be the firmware since i am on MTN and i am trying to load a vodaphone rom?
Try a firmware from here:-
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
instructions of how to flash are also posted there.
Look for your region or a multi CSC region.
(taken from a previous post).
Copy your internal sdcard and external micro sdcard to your PC.
Boot into recovery. Data factory reset. Advanced option, wipe dalvik cache.
Mounts and storage option, format system; data; sdcard.
Also try Ultimate cleaning script
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1166954
Install correct stock firmware using Odin or place a custom rom zip on your sdcard and install from recovery.
Once firmware has booted, from the dial pad, dial *2767*3855#
This will factory data reset.
Wait for firmware to reboot.
Hopefully after that you should be OK.
I got the same probleme some time ago. The only workaround was to switch off the pin-code in settings and then turn it on again...
After flashing a new firmware and do a full wipe, the problem was gone...
Thanks guys i will try both these methods and report back...

you are probably missing the keystr file in efs\imei folder. Just restore back that file and you can use back the sim card pin lock. i had a similar issue previously too.

[Q] vodafone uk galaxy s3 problem!

Ok so I’m new to this forum but ive looked everywhere online and cant find a solution anywhere!
I have a Samsung galaxy s3 gt-19300 which I got last October as part of a Vodafone contract. I had no problems with it until Friday night, my phone died so I charged it when I got home and when I turned it on, it froze at the boot screen. I looked online everywhere and have tried all the factory resets and clearing cache, I have tried flashing using odin and lots of different firmware, some work but say the phone is in factory mode and don’t recognise that the sim card is inserted, and some don’t work at all and the problem starts again! I have read lots online but I honestly have no clue what to do and I was hoping that someone could help me or at least have some kind of idea of how to fix?
Thanks in advance guys!

[Q] no network after update!!!

So I believe I was on the 4.0.4 when I started. I rooted my phone after only having the phome for a week. I wanted to update my phone so I downloaded an app which would allow me to keep my root and update at the same time (blue android figure as the icon of the app) everything seemed to have worked then I noticed it said emergency calls only and my network was gone. Currently I am on 4.1.2 and my serial number and imei are still the same. I have tried everything, including flashing stock rom on to it ... resetting to factory settings.. EVERYTHING. And it is really bugging me because I only got this phone a week ago
It is a samsung galaxy s3... please can some one help me. I heard people in the other forums talking about modem or efs or something along them lines and I am wondering it might be something to do with that?

Ive tried to flash to a stock firmware from sammobile.. I put it back its orignal firmware but still I was faced with the same problem.
Then I tried upgrading it with a stock firmware off sammobile again and still no service and its prompting me that I have no service.
I dont care about any files on my phone. I just want my signal back and I am willing to do anything to have solved.
Should contact Samsung? As I believe I still am under warranty
Many thanks
