[Q] no network after update!!! - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I believe I was on the 4.0.4 when I started. I rooted my phone after only having the phome for a week. I wanted to update my phone so I downloaded an app which would allow me to keep my root and update at the same time (blue android figure as the icon of the app) everything seemed to have worked then I noticed it said emergency calls only and my network was gone. Currently I am on 4.1.2 and my serial number and imei are still the same. I have tried everything, including flashing stock rom on to it ... resetting to factory settings.. EVERYTHING. And it is really bugging me because I only got this phone a week ago
It is a samsung galaxy s3... please can some one help me. I heard people in the other forums talking about modem or efs or something along them lines and I am wondering it might be something to do with that?

Just find your original firmware details or ask a user with the same phone as you or just restore via
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1978840
or just guess at sammobile firmware based upon your location and network ..

Ive tried to flash to a stock firmware from sammobile.. I put it back its orignal firmware but still I was faced with the same problem.
Then I tried upgrading it with a stock firmware off sammobile again and still no service and its prompting me that I have no service.
I dont care about any files on my phone. I just want my signal back and I am willing to do anything to have solved.
Should contact Samsung? As I believe I still am under warranty
Many thanks

[Q] Help with 're' branding S2 please???

I got fed up waiting for the latest update on my O2 S2 so thought i'd try the 2.3.4 update. I didn't at this time realise it was an XEU firmware.
Using Odin was straight forward and I completed the flash and started using the phone. I got some unexpected lag and thought i'd revert back to the original firmware but it is this that is causing me a problem.
I attempted the reflash with the O2 firmware (KE7),
I now get the O2 bubbles on start up (which was replaced but a fragmentated S on 2.3.4, official samsung I believe) and in phone settings its says 2.3.3 however when I connect to Kies it says the CSC is XEU and not 02.
I tried the '272' imei trick but only get 1 option XEU.
Can anybody please help me revert my phone back to original???
Here's hoping somebody can help..
Branded rom /provider rom post or how to debrand O2 phone posts from Dev section .
Essentially flash the O2 firmware through Odin
jje
Thanks for the reply. I 'think' i have solved it now. I had flashed it with Odin but only once i had cleared the partition cache did Kies show the right firmware.
It does mean i have lost all of my apps so now am looking at a good backup app.
Any suggestions for a non rooted phone?

You can't backup apps unless your rooted as these live on the root of your phone.
You can root and keep the phone stock and not flash any custom roms.
Im on o2 uk. Had the xeukd1 csc before i switched.
If any of my friends asked me i would tell them to root and install a custom rom and kernel.
The themes and tweaks available are great. The biggest thing for me is the battery life. I now get only 1% battery drain overnight (7 hours) someone else on the same rom and kernel went over 6 days without charge.
Never would have got this before.

Many thanks for the reply.
It certainly sounds very interesting. I am new to rooting only having learnt about the basics of it over the past couple of days.
I presume therefore that should the need ever arise restoring the phone to its original firmware spec (as at time of purchase, and should warranty work be required) is possible?
I think I need to go and read some more on rooting.

Go to intratech's thread in original android development find out what firmware modem and csc you're using download and keep in a safe place. This is then your return to factory settings if you have a warranty issue.
If you need any help pm me as I won't always be popping in to this thread.

[Q] SMSC problem

I got a problem with the smsc on my phone. I'm running CM9 at the moment. Also tried MIUI and CM7 but that didn't word either.
When asking for help from my provider Mobile Vikings(Belguim) they told me to factory reset my phone. Wich I did but without result.
So I have 2 questions.
1. I thought factory reset would bring my SGS2 back to the original settings and also the 2.3.3 version that was installed when first turning on the phone. Is this not the case?
2. Does anybody know the answer to my problem?
Thanks!!
You have to find/reflash the original stock firmware that came with your phone to get it back to a state similar to when you bought it.
Go to Sammobile.com & search for your firmware & follow whatever instructions they have for flashing firmware downloaded from their site. Then do a factory reset. And if you need to send the phone in for warranty service or whatever, get a USB jig from eBay.
Thanks MistahBungle, but how do i know what my stock firmware was? I know it was the 2.3.3 but i found different ones.

[Q] [Help] Phone is showing No Service!

Hi there,
problem as follows: I got a I9300 (pre-rootet and with some kind of chinese custom rom based on 4.0.4). I did not put in my simcard, but flashed it straight away with a 4.1.1 custom rom, and did the efs backup.
However, once I put in my simcard it shows no service. I have tried several roms and just restored stock recovery and stock firmware 4.1.1 but nothing has changed.
i have checked this threat http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1080076 and others, but still my phone is not having service.
I don't think that my efs partition is corrupted since when I type in those keycodes it still shows my imei. also I did a restore of my backed up efs.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks!

It looks like what I am looking for. However, I cannot find the files they are using
I'll keep looking... thanks
Update:
I have asked the person who gave the phone to me, and apparently it was a parallel import to china. However, I have no idea where it is from originally.
I have tried flashing a couple of different stock roms, but without success.
I have also tried to flash the chinese rom from the suggested thread, but it keeps failing when it comes to the part where it wants to install the modem.
Does anyone have an idea how to find out the origin of the phone?
I have tried Kies, entering the model number and serial, but kies does not accept the serial.
My last hope would be that I can find out which market it is from, then flash back the original stock firmware?
Any other ideas why it might show no service?
IMEI is shown, so I think efs partiotion should be still ok, right?
I'd really appreciate any help and suggestions. I am out of ideas...
Thanks

IMEI is shown as on sticker.
I have no idea where the phone is originally from - I have contacted Samsung but they were not willing to help- they say it has not been bought in NZ so they cannot help me here. Hence I dont know which modem would be the correct one. I have tried a couple of different ones, but none seems to be working.
Sim is ok, also tried like 5 other sim cards.

That's what I read in other forums now as well.
The error seems to be common after unlocking with boxes.
So I suspect that someone unlocked the phone, which messed up the efs folder. The backup I made when I received phone, must already be faulty.
I also noticed that the SN in the phone settings shows up as a different number than the one on the sticker.
I guess I have to find someone with those 'boxes" who knows what he is doing Any suggestions for Auckland, NZ?
I have been to like 5 shops but noone could help so far... THANKS

Thanks, I had tried that. Kies doesn't recognize the SN. Strangely enough SN in settings and SN on sticker are not the same. I really think seller screwed with the efs partition.
Was it working with the original Rom?
From my reading of your posts you have not changed the modem or csc that it came with?
Perhaps if you tried a 4.0.4 Rom again you might have some luck given it was probably working when you received it.
The different serial numbers are suspicious though. Presumably the one on the sticker is the correct one. Would Samsung not be able to identify the phone by the SN and tell you what the original firmware is?

When I received the phone it was not working. Hence I installed stock rom. I also tried flashing different modems, but nothing helped.
I contacted Samsung service and they said they wouldn't be able to help me because I did not purchase the phone in the country where I live in, and also cannot give me any information about where the phone was originally from.
It possible that is an imei block. If the phone is sold with a subscription and the owner sell it to an other prson without paying anymore the taxes for the phone the operator is able to block your phone using the imei.

Some shops won't buy your phone unless you provide them with proof you purchased it or paid your bill off.

As bought origins unknown .
Non working may be faulty and not fixable .
May have been as said blocked as its a stolen phone .
If it is I9300 then i would be flashing stock ICS firmware with modem and CSC for the country/network you are trying to use the phone on .At least then after a successful flash their can only be two reasons for not working phone hardware or IMEI .

IMEI is ok. I also called my network provider to check if IMEI is blacklisted in my country, but say also say it's not blacklisted.
Someone told me (and I also read it on other forums) that this often happens after unlocks, which are actually not successfully finished.
I will meet him tomorrow and will post an update.
Thanks for the suggestions and help so far.
Ok last update:
Indeed the phone is unlocked and something went wrong with it. Apparently, it is a common thing that the IMEI changes during unlock and then has to be restored, which often causes that problem.
The guy who helped me got it fixed. Only problem is now that I cannot flash the modem file. So have to stick with roms which come without modem. Also it seems that some are incompatible with the 'old'modem
Right now I am using AOKP and everything is working.
Thanks again for all the help and suggestions!

[Solved]IMEI has changed, No Network, No Phone Calls (Any Suggestions?)

My IMEI was 353************** and changed to 0499901********. So I am not able to make any phone calls right now.
I have no idea how it happened. I am flashing ROMS for 8 months. I have no EFS backup because i didn't know how much important it was [I AM REALLY STUPID ]
I know 049999**** is a test imei. In every forum there is a solution for SGS / SGSII. There are things for SGS3 but threads are very old like 5-6 months ago and they don't work...
I've tried installing softwares called NsPro or Samsung Tools. But I know they need some special stuffs and they are not free..
I've tried stock roms, modified Roms, kernels, modems after this happened.(Yesterday i was on 4.2.2 now 4.0.4)
So i gave up
Is there any suggestions? Any help way ? Because if I can't find any solution until tomorrow, I'll give the phone to technical service and i don't like it.
Last time I gave my phone to the service it took 25 days and they changed the motherboard with new IMEI (Nokia C7)
And the most important question : Can I update my phone if technical service fixes it? Android 4.2.2 original firmware or 4.3 , 5.0 in the future?
Sorry for bad English.I live in Turkey,Istanbul if there is anyone who can contact me.
Thanks!

Good your issue was resolved. It is always bettwe to keep a back up of efs folder. nv_data_bin would have corrupted which restored on another flash of ROM and you are lucky. Most of the time flashing an unsuitable kernel would lead to this problem.
