just bought my htc radar
the problem is when i start making voice call
the screen go black and i cannot do anything untill other person hangs up..
is there a way to solve this?
Do you have a screen protector fitted? Sometimes the screen protector can trip out the light sensor fooling the phone to believe your face is still pressed against it which will keep the backlight off etc, Had this issue in the past with my HD2 and HD7.

My wife has this same problem with hers. I found if you put slight pressure over the proximity sensor, that when you release it will function again. I'm guess that the glue holding the glass in place is faulty. This allows it to raise up slightly and cause the sensor to detect what isn't there.
I haven't tried tonwarrenty exchange hers yet with T-Mobile or HTC. Indo imagine that it's coming in the near future though. My wife is extremely annoyed by this.
I have the same issue. We have 75 HTC Radar company phones. A few of them have this very problem.
Most phones work fine after a hard reset, seems like some calibration error?

I am a phone repair tech and we have the same proximity sensor issue as stated above. We repair thousands of these phones and I would say atleast 25% of of these phones that come in the door have this issue and we have came to the conclusion that it is due to the sensor itself, for whatever reason, going bad, alot. HTC needs to address this problem, they need to either recall the phone or fix the issue free of charge. I plan writing HTC this afternoon and giving them a piece of my mind. If by chance anyone comes across a fix please let me know. We have tried everything that we can think of. I'll keep the thread updated as to what HTC has got to say.

Hi,
My HTC is giving me problems. The screen has become yellowish.
Earlier the screen used to become yellowish for 5-10 mins and it used to occur in two weeks or so. But now the phone has permanently become yellowish. I am also attaching a picture along with this thread. As you can see, the areas in the pic which are bluish is showing the true color of the background. Rest of the screen is all yellowish.
Can someone help me with this problem.
Best regards,
MOhit Goyal
Looks like a faulty contact from your Motherboard to your screen (bad connector, bad flex-strip or something like that)
IMO you need to send it in for repairs.
I have had the same with my p3300, but was able to fix it myself (connector was not completely pressed down, had come loose)
Hardware problem?
Do you think this is a hardware problem?
Why I doubt that is because:-
1. Whenever I touch any place on the screen for opening an application, the area shows the actual color, but if I just touch the screen the colours doesn't change.
2. Usually the phone starts displaying the correct colours after a restart
Should I take chances and reset my phone or something?
I'm having the exact same problem every now & then (often occurs when I keep the phone in my jeanspocket) A light tap on the screen often helps. Had it in for repairs earlier, but they only re-flashed it (!) So the problem is not solved
What to do now?
I am not able to play any game. I hate looking at my phone. It makes me so angry.
How do I get it fixed. Its the fourth consecutive day with the wrong colours.
Someone please help.
Performed a hard reset but still not working properly
This is not happening. I performed a hard reset thinking that it might just work but it did not.
Can someone please help me here.
Of course it is a hardware fault. Send it in for repair - or repair it yourself
I think is a virus or something else, because has happened to many people lately.
I also had the issue as pictured above.....and exactly as described in the first post.
It began to occur about three weeks....and gradually was getting worse.
Its getting worse
Again I am doubtful that its a hardware problem.
Now, I am not even able to open anything on my phone. I keep getting thrown back to the main screen. No matter what I open, what application I am using, it just keeps throwing me back to the main menu.
In addition to that, even when I am not using the phone, it just keeps flashing. I lock it and the screen turns on again. Its like the phone is getting used every second.
I think its a virus. Does anyone know any anti virus solutions for HTC HD2?
Thanks,
Mohit Goyal
i got exactly the same problem - check my photos here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=716002&page=2
i donth think it is a virus - why? - becase if it so the virus should go when you reflash the rom or flash a new rom - i douubt also about the virus but when install new rom the color issue still existig.
i sent my device to the dealer for repair and i will apdate you about the real reason when i got the answer from the dealer.
however, the same issue happened before to one of my friends and the device was out of warantee - he took it to a repair shop and they told him it is a kind of default in the mother board.
this time we will get dealer answer so lets wait.
thanks
a member in other forum advised me to use the attached cab which solve a similar issue in Blackstone.
but it is too late for me because i returned the device to the dealer
however- other member faced a similar issue and the dealer told him it a default in the motherboard.
Send in for repair......

Listen to the others... You need to send phone in for repair... My phone use to flicker on and off to the point where I couldn't call or use.... I sent to be repaired and they replaced the mother board, but didn't fix my other problems (phone will not turn off and when u put in battery phone turns on on it's own)..... I would send in for repair.......................
htc contacted me an inform me that the reason was the motherboard
yea its the motherboard isue i droped mind and d screen has changd its colour to yelow blue and sometimes wnt wake up aftr remvng 4m poket.gave it htc repair center they said a socket or conector has a problm whch cnt be repaired and so mothrboard needs to b changed.motherboard cost 8000rupees/190dolars whch is **** expensive for repairing
I had this same problem and read on some other forum that you're supposed to "flex" the phone. So I bended my phone a little (the top and bottom backwards, be careful the screen also has glass in it) to try to get a bit of a curve in it and by god ...it worked!!!!! The screen flickered and then the yellow screen was gone!!! I'm so glad because I mailed Htc two days earlier and I still don't have a response from them. I hope it works for you
Just to confirm... The same thing happen to me its either (A) the cable from MOBO to Screen came loose usually by flexing or bending the phone which can happen in someones pocket. (B) the cable connector came loose by same methods (C) MOBO went bad usually by same methods. Either way one should it in for repairs or crack it open and see for your self.
I got same problem before, it happened when the screen is moist. it looks like there is an absorbent layer behind the screen which got damped. try drying it.....found article to contained the unit in a seal container with rice overnite for drying electronic gadgets, and see the result.remember to take off the battery. good luck.
Hello there,
Recently I had my digitizer replaced and since then, I am having very weird thing with the screen turning off as soon as I am making a phone call. I thought it was a light sensor but in winmo it seems to be working fine, makes the screen brighter or darker depending on light. I hope I was able to explain what the problem is.
What could it be?

Doesn't that basically mean your proximity sensor is working correctly?
The proximity sensor turns off the screen during a call when it senses something close to the sensor.

Have you checked your battery contacts (pins) when the battery is removed? If they are bent, they could lead to weird screen/phone shut-downs.
Did you replace the digitizer by yourself? Or did you have someone else (like a professional) replace it for you? Something might have happened to the electrical wiring, or there might be some small piece of dirt/object that got stuck in front of the proximity sensor.
Best wishes -- I hope you get this resolved.
Hi,
Digitizer had been fitted by technician, I said the same to him that its some sort of physical issue causing the screen to go off whilst making a call. Bathe suggested its a software problem. However, if somebody came across with this sort of issue please let me know how to fix it.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
I've been having this issue myself for a while now, after first installing the latest norwegian rom straight from htc, and now using the energy rom. I haven't had any hardware in the phone replaced tho.
Well I did it... Broke the screen a couple of weekends ago. Ordered and received a new one. (No problem and not too bad price-wise) Then I ordered the correct screwdriver. That came in yesterday and I followed a couple of tutorials online to take the thing apart. Not too bad despite the teeny-tiny parts. I got it back together and lo-it worked! Actually it took a couple of tries and I reflashed it but then it booted right up. All the apps seemed responsive and life was good once again...
Until I tried to make a call. Then the screen went dark and it appeared that the phone froze up. Called myself from the house phone and discovered that the Aria was dialing, connecting, and sending voice but that I couldn't hear anything on the Aria.
Disassembled, re-set the earpiece, reassembled, called myself again, and I could hear. The screen came on and stayed on, but the touchscreen would not function.
Disassembled, checked all the connections, and reassembled again. The phone appears to work correctly in all aspects until I try to make or receive calls. At that point the screen shuts down and the only way to disconnect a call (or get the screen back) is to pull the battery and reboot.
I tried reflashing the ROM and that didn't work. I'm afraid the transceiver is shorting the screen out somehow but have reached the limits of my expertise.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Jerry
I have never had to replace my digitizer so only speaking from what i have read but it sounds like the very small rubber piece that covers the proximity sensor. I have read that if missing or not placed correctly people have had the same problem as you. Just my thoughts
I've replaced my digitizer and I have had the exact same problem. E.Cardo is correct, it is the small rubber piece on the proximity sensor not positioned correctly or not present at all.
Thanks to both of you. The proximity sensor is supposed to be right behind the ATT logo, correct?
I can't wait to get home and try this. I really don't like the backup Cliq Xt... I'll post once I've messed with it.

It's hard to see them exactly so I took a picture to show exactly where they are:
http://imgur.com/a/36h8t#ayQhv
It's actually just above the & in the at&t logo, although if you have a replacement digitizer, it might not have the at&t logo on it. If you have trouble seeing it, try looking at it in the sunlight.
To add to what drumist said there as small black rubber piece that goes around the proximity sensor that prevents light seepage and allot of people discard it by mistake when disassembling the phone.

Why did you have to reflash? The new screen didn't worked?.
My aria's screen is broken too. I boutgh a new one but It doesn't work. Do you resolve this reflashing? (that's mean applying the new rom version from ATT)
Thanks for your response.

The screen or digitizer are hardware they should have nothing to do with the rom. The op only tried flashing the phone to illuminate it is a possible source of the problem. It sounds like you did not install the new screen or digitizer correctly you may need to disassemble and make sure everything is connected correctly and securely. Flashing your phone will most likely not correct your problem.

Maybe, just maybe, there are new drivers for the touchscreen included in the rom. I am using cyanogen 7.0.3 without problems, and it works nice with the old screen.
Or the new screen is defective.
I am pretty sure I installed correctly the new screen. Of course the old one is working fine right now.
I requested a new screen so I will wait...
Thanks again.
Did a quick search for this but most posts are on a similar but different issue.
During outgoing calls, the screen rarely, if ever, turns off due to the proximity sensor - I need to manually do it using the screen lock button.
However, with incoming calls, the screen turns off fine (due to the proximity sensor).
For both incoming and outgoing calls, it is often impossible to get the screen to light again once it is off.
Initially I thought my proximity sensor might be faulty, but the proximity sensor works perfectly in the diagnostics app. So it seems to be a software issue.
Is anybody else seeing this issue? Any solutions? I have the latest 1600.2487.8107.12070 update.
EDIT: Seems to be better after a hard reset, still not perfect though.
Same here

I can't replicate your issue. Might be that you are somehow obstructing the proximity sensor with your hand.
Also don't have this issue. I find the proximity sensor to be actually oversensitive at times.
It toggles on as much as 5+cm away.
I've the same problem. I think the problem is due to the placement of the proximity sensor, not software fault. Proximity sensors should be placed as close as possible to the earpiece (i.e. the centre) of the phone, but stupid arse Nokia, with their billions of years in phone design experience, decided to place the sensor in the far-right of the top edge of the phone, so it doesn't register many times. Never ever buying a Nokia phone again, just out of the rage of wasting $500!
Disappointed by Nokia Care
I had a similar issue. Screen blacked out on incoming as well as outgoing calls and would not light up no matter what I do. It would be back to normal once the call was over.
Had to go to Nokia Care. They took my phone for 10 days and sorted the problem. However, they left marks on my sleek handset - chipped off the beautiful polycarbonate - as they probably opened the screen from top side. Also, the battery life has gone down from ~30 hrs to about 14-16 hrs.
Don't feel like going to Nokia care again as I dread what might happen this time around.

If I were you, I'd refuse the take back the handset and ask for a replacement. It's unacceptable that Nokia Care damage your handset.
Yea... I should have done that. But I didn't notice it then and was more busy checking whether the screen issues was solved. Don't think they will entertain a request for the same now... I will try though.
has any 1 else had this problem with screen turning black on a call on the lumia 800
i have to turn phone of to end call.
i have spoken to nokia uk who said the new update fixed this so when he asked for my version and told him it was 12070 he seemed to be shocked as this update was supposed to fix this problem.
he told me to reset phone and its still not fixed problem so he told me send phone to nokia for repair or replacement, this is a bit of a hassle as i need my phone for work is there anything i can do to fix it myself or does the phone have to go back to nokia.
I'm too having this issue. Any solution guys?
fix from nokia worked from me
i just spoke to nokia again and spoke to a tech help
he told me take my screen protector of the phone and it will fix the problem as the protector is blocking the proximity sensor.
i was scepticle at first so i thought ok ill try it not going to harm
and it fixed the issue the phone no longer turns black on calls and is working fine.
try it it may fix the problem.
but its also a bit stupid u cant put a screen protector on phone if it causes this problem but also told me to not cover top right hand corner of phone if applying another that is were the scensor is located its bloody stupid if u ask me nokia need to get this sorted
I shall try that. Kinda funny solution though
Thanks for sharing.

Its not nokia's fault. If you cover the proximity sensor in any phone, you are going to have this issue. I'm not sure what screen guard you are using, generally device specific screen guards are shaped keeping in mind the location of the proximity sensor.

look at the phone at an angle in good light. You'll be able to to see the proximity sensor then.
Also after you apple the screenguard, run the nokia diagnostic tools. There's a proximity tester as well.
Overal seems like a bad screenguard problem than a problem with the phone. The proximity sensor is in a good place.
I have this issue too on 12070. I don't have any shield on my screen...
