I have been trying many kernels and roms lately, for my new gaming phone, and all of them bootloop. nAa gives a cyan light, and loops, linuxDX reboots, and every other ROM reboots. what is this problem? I hate eclair, and I plan to overclock. Thank you all.

I am not sure what cell you actually have, but make sure that the kernel you are flashing is compatible with the rom. I suggest doing a full wipe and flashing a rom as it is and see what happens. But make sure first that what you are flashing is for your phone....

Ok, no problem. I would try doing a full wipe and flash a rom without changing kernel nor radio and see what happens.
Make sure that you wipe cache, dalvik, format system and then flash.

gingerbread 2.3.5
have you tried to flash the rom again to c if thats the problem
Hi there,
1. Did u do a full wipe before installing the new rom?
2. You could try installing faux123 1Ghz kernel LINK use "Enhanced Stock Kernel, Max @ 1.0 GHz". Install the one for GINGERBREAD
Link to Faux123 1.0 GHz kernel
[ Installation procedure: ]
[ CWM Method ]
1. reboot to CWM
2. Clear cache
3. install zip from SDcard
4. Reboot
Hope this helps
P.S.: "Wet Dream" is the new version of "The Darkside" might be worth to take a look
Grtz
Faux kernel will prevent boots but will erase every widget at every reboot...
I has the best results with the stock intl kernel (see GingerMod Rom). I don't have reboots anymore...
Sounds like the rom didn't install properly, I'd go through the wipe and factory reset/dalvik once again and reinstall. Just make sure to do a backup just in case it backfires.

That's just not true. I've used both .23 and .24beta kernels and the widget thing rarely happens. It does happen, but not on every reboot.

As has been already mentioned, make sure you do a full and proper wipe of your phone before flashing roms, but another problem could be that you're being too extreme with undervolting. Try reducing your undervolts if you have been undervolting. Or, if you have an extreme overclock kernel, consider lowering clock speeds because each phone is different, and some (even ones of the same type) can't handle as high of clock speeds as others. But, I suspect that your main problem is that you didn't follow the proper steps before flashing.
1. Boot into recovery (hold the volume down button while booting, then press down until you see android recovery, and then press up)
2. Do a factory reset
3. Clear cache partition
4. Clear dalvik cache
5. flash the zip
Note: factory reset will erase all your data, so backup any files you want to keep before doing so.
To flash a new kernel, do what denbeutels said, except you should clear dalvik as well. Android needs to recompile certain things to optimize them for the new kernel, so it's a very important step.

Are you following the faux123 kernel thread in development?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22178618&postcount=2965
Ok, after running a few days on the new faux 0.2.4 1.45GHz kernel, I've experienced quite a few reboots as well (ok, an order of magnitude more than before). Right now I have gone back to faux 0.2.3 1.3GHz and haven't seen any problems yet. I was mainly getting reboots during undocking (all dock types), but also sometimes during normal use. And I'm talking about 3-5 reboots throughout the day.
Edit: And of course, as soon as I posted this, I got another reboot (this time while using webtop in the lapdock and simply closing a Synaptic window). Next I'll have to start tracking down anything I installed recently that may be doing this.
Pretty much copy and paste, but I have updated it with latest info.

So this is weird... In four days, the ROM or phone has froze on me about half a dozen times now. The first time when I was setting it up by as I had just done a flash of the ROM. While setting it up, the phone decided to suddenly slow down all of a sudden to a crawl, up to the point where everything started to get washed out and freeze on me. Force restart by holding Volume Up + Power was the only solution to fix it. Just now, my sister had it connected to her computer and was transferring music over into the internal SD when suddenly, the same thing happened. Again, only solution was to force restart. Anyone have this happen to them before? Everything is completely stock except that we're on Dorimanx 5.3 kernel. Then the other times, it would either slow down and freeze in the CWM Recovery Menu, or when she is texting, playing games, etc. There aren't that many apps installed at all. Reflash of kernel doesn't solve the problem.

Could it be that I need to flash the phone with official ICS + bootloader + PIT? I jumped straight from stock Gingerbread to custom ICS.

try doing a wipe data/factory reset as that is normally a fix to these kind of problems. Also clear cache and dalvik and that should fix the problem!

Do not use the .pit file unless you understand 100%sure about what you are doing. That's probably the easiest way to bork your device.
Edit: try flashing a different kernel. Try dark knight or fluxi. I think it would solve your issues

I would get an official rom, and flash it with odin, (no repartition is required) then install your fav. custom rom

I can't wipe data/factory reset in CWM for some reason when I first tried to install the custom ROM. Never tried again... I wonder if it's because my I9100 is brickable.
I have cleared cache and dalvik cache but no luck. It even slowed down and froze in CWM Recovery.

I know what I'm doing. Flashed with PIT many times before on my Captivate. Haven't tried PIT on her I9100 though. I haven't broken my phone with PIT yet, even though there's quite a few PITs out there lol.
I've read of others running the same combo as me, but they're fine so I wonder what else could cause this...

The ICS ROM from the Q&A Sticky should work right? Her I9100 is brickable so.... Gotta be careful.
Flash a stock rom, go to sammobile.com and find one then try again?

format cache/data/system , then make all wipes , then put your phone in download mode , flash a stock ROM from samfirmware.com , then root your phone !
Running the latest Dorimanx 5.5 kernel and still getting the same problem. In fact, I noticed that if you set it to Performance under Kernel Tweaks in Recovery, the problem is more apparent. Setting it to default causes the issue too.
I've tried flashing my Atrix (MB861) with several custom ROMs (latest MIUI, AOKP[JB] and CNA 3.6[JB]).
Installation goes smooth and phone boots up. Everything works, menus, apps and etc.
But after 1-2 minutes system automatically reboots.
Anybody have any ideas or same issues?

Using CWM recovery 5.0.2.0
and yes, doing full wipe before flashing.
Every of mentioned roms restarting in about 1-3 minutes

Try TWRP Recovery it might sort your issue out. I had similar issues and after flashing TWRP I could flash fine only problem is not all ROM's are flashable. You can always go back to CWM's if need be. I tend to switch between the two
get around atrix boot loop

yes you will have either go into recovery mode by holding down the "down volume" and the power button on start up and then pressing the down button till you get to "android recovery" and pressing up on the volume button and then install "fullwipe.zip" and then the rom ".zip" of your choice... or if recovery doesn't work then you will have to flash recovery onto your phone via fastboot.
I have the similar problem on my atrix 4G att version. since yesterday I have flashed several roms including stock fruitcakes and I get reboots after phone boots up it stays for min or so and reboots. what I noticed is in all roms that I tried since yesterday when checking in Settings>about it shows baseband unknown. I suspect baseband is causing problem. question is why baseband is missing in every rom? I never had this problem. do I have to install baseband to fix this issue?
thanks
If you have issues with baseband aka radio, installing ROMs won't fix it since radio is never a part of any ROM (except stock SBFs). You might try flashing another radio (or the same, sometimes that helps too).

i think he means wiping /data, /cache and dalvik chaches
Full wipe means you do a wipe cache, wipe dalvik and wipe data in CWM.
so, where can i get that baseband???
I have the same issue, and have tried installing a few basebands.
It is a Bell phone, with a Bell ROM. I tried a bell, at&t, Orange France, UK baseband. Still no joy.
Any other baseband I can try?
First of all: I have had my S II water damaged some months ago. It works fine that far (exept that the sensor keys are dead). Not sure if there is some other hardware malfunctioning...
Currently im running on MIUI and everything is fine, but recently I found out that no other ROM will work on my Phone:
- Samsung stock ROM runs extreme (!) laggy. Took me about 5 Minutes to go through the menus and enable USB debugging.
- CM9/ AOKP will reset immediately after system startup
- CM10 shows laggy boot animation for few secs, then bootloops
Only other ROM that works is "cMIUI". Which is a CM10 based ROM only with a MIUI userinterface...
What can I do to find out whats the problem with my phone??
Thats weird. Have you tried wiping data before flashing each of these ROMs? Next time, try formatting /system, /data, cache and dalvik cache. Also, have you tried using those kernel cleaning scripts, etc?

Wiped and formatted like hell. I've hit every single wipe/ clean/ format option in the recovery. Also I have installed a dualboot kernel and installed CM as "second rom", where no ROM has gone before.....

Only one option I can think of is to go back to stock samsung rom then claim your warranty if you have it. Or, make a logcat and paste it here (upload to Dropbox or somewhere then past a link over here) and someone experienced might take a look.
Since you've already wiped everything, I'm more inclined to think that it's a hardware problem now. However, let's hope someone more experienced pops in and helps. Good luck

See two logs below, trying to boot cm9. One with default kernel, one with Siyah. Would be great if anybody could find out whats the issue.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/z7q3wbz1h9uhhvg/logcat_cm9_s2.txt
https://www.dropbox.com/s/r1l9umovmxx7jpo/logcat_cm9_s2_siyah.txt
In both logs the phone booted and showed the Pin dialog, then after few seconds rebooted.
As the Phone had been waterdamaged Im pretty shure warranty is absolutely void Also I think that the problems are due to some Hardware malfunctioning. Just want to know what and if theres some way to workaround.
Hi guys,
I have an S2 which I installed JB v5.. On to and all seemed OK except I had an issue with the screen going blank during calls. I posted a ? On the forum and some suggested Siyah Kernel which I downloaded to solve the prob......... Prob now is when ever I reboot it comes up with System UI has stopped. This in itself isn't a real issue because I can use CWM and reboot back to original back up of ICS.
My question is why would this be happening, is it a matter of just trying another Kernel (to solve my original prob of the blank screen)
I would like to keep Siyah and use JB if possible as they appear good but I am very new to all this so any suggestions are appreciated
Thanks
JB = JellyBam..? Which version of Siyah did you try? It's important you flash the right one Look at the changelog on www.gokhanmoral.com.

Why do a factory reset if it's just a kernel/flash-issue? It seems he just flashed the wrong version.

Try kernel v4 instead. If you still have issues you will need to wipe data/factory reset. You can backup everything via Titanium Backup Pro.
If you still have issues you will need to use a kernel/rom cleaning script like these. Once you have cleaned rom/kernel of old leftover files you can do a fresh install of rom then kernel.
