Sorry if this was ask before...
So i heard if you put your phone on cdma only it will save some battery because is not looking for both signals "dual mode" I believe. Is there a way to put LTE only so my phone don't have to look for 3G signal and maybe save some juice?
Thanks in Advance

Only if you want battery drain. Imho there isn't a phone on the market that comes stock aside from the Maxx that is viable to run LTE only for any extended period of time. The hardware technology hasn't matured enough to keep up with the resource drain LTE uses. I rarely ever have it turned on myself.

If there were, it would no longer be a phone. Currently, on Verizon, LTE is data only. All calls go over the CDMA side.

If you did that, you wouldn't get any phone service either
I swear there was a setting for LTE only. I believe I came across it once while messing around with some settings trying to get 4G back, before I found out it was a outage lol... It bumped me off of 3G and put me on 1X.

There is a setting that is CDMA+LTE only. So you get calls and texts over 1X and have 4G, but if your 4G drops you go to 1X. However, that is how the phone works even with 3G turned on so there are no battery savings.

if you set it for 3g only does that save on battery and how do you do that exactly?
You can actually do it two ways under settings go to power-power mode- and choose normal performace(instead of high) OR under settings- wireless & networks- mobile network settings- network mode and choose cdma only!
Hope that helped!

So I have 2gb of data and used it all up. If I understand correctly it will still say 4g but throttled down to 2g. If I go to my settings wireless and mobile networks and change to use gsm only it will actually switch to 2g in the notification bar. My question is by only using gsm instead of wcdma will I have a longer lasting battery? Doesn't wcdma require more power consumption? And last, I've also noticed that if I have wcdma 4g throttle down with 2-3 bars vs gsm 2g full bars I get slightly better speed results. Any help greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Floyd P.

For sure it will have better battery life, edge connectivity uses less battery life, in addition, it won't have to ever switch back and forth.
Sent from my HTC Amaze 4G using XDA App
I thought so... I also noticed speeds are faster on edge when I have full bars which is 80% of the time. Thanks

Has nothing to do with the Amaze 4G.
Do not spam the forums again or you WILL be banned!
This is your final warning!
A ton of battery use goes to your device searching for the best/strongest signal...eliminate the need for it to search, and you will definitely save power.
Thanks for the info guys

Does setting network mode to Cdma only turn off the Lte? I think it would but I read online that Lte stays on all the time
Sent from my EVO LTE using XDA
It not only tells the device NOT to turn on LTE but also tells the devicenot to LOOK for an LTE signal which in my experience enhanced battery life... Well may not have enhanced battery life to be honest because I was only on charge number 2 when I turned it off LoL but will actually turn it back on and see how battery fates then to compare and do my best to keep using the phone as much as I have been to get proper results for the comparison.

Thanks. I feel like this would be like leaving GPS or Wimax on. Wasting the battery.

Except leaving GPS on doesn't waste battery. It's only using power when it's actually active. This was a big question people asked 2 years ago when the OG Evo came out.
Correct me if I'm wrong.

But with all the apps that try to pull your location I always thought it was hurting my battery on the OG. I am a battery whore so it could have been in my head.

Yes, it is really only active when instructed to do so by certain apps at certain times like posting on FaceBook, using Nav, etc etc.

Hopefully someone could fulfill this since 99% of us have no lte service. Maybe this would save some battery on this beast!

no doesn't scan when you put it in cdma only mode...BUT there is zero point to it as many have shown zero increase in battery life by changing it, and some have even seen worse battery life to turn it off and slower speeds as well...
This is not like it was with the WiMax(or even LTE in VZ cases before) radio which in those cases the chip that controlled it was completely separate of the SoC and now in the S4 the thing is integrated in the SoC so battery savings are there big.
That and everyone will be getting LTE by end of next year too so isn't really worth the effort to disable it more than it already can be...and battery life i get now is redic as is too!!

For some reason i could connect to LTE for about 30 seconds before my phone would revert to 3G. no matter how many times i updated prl or profile.
Solution: used Network from app store to switch from CDMA+LTE AUTO to LTE,CDMA. now getting lightning fast LTE all the time.
Nice.
I was having the same problem, could you explain what you did exactly? There is an app called network that allows you to change this?

Which "Network" app did you use? Play Store shows like 19,000 apps when I search on just "network"!
Thanks!

'Network' on AppBrain: http://www.appbrain.com/app/de.mangelow.network
I'll try this out, I've been dialing *#*#4636#*#* and selecting lte/cdma, this may make it easier to switch

Whats ehrpd ?
Sent from my EVO using xda app-developers app
App works well, good shortcut..
I just have to set it back to cdma, lte+evdo/auto when I leave an lte area.. Then 3g/4g/1x hand offs appears to function normally..
Lte+cdma lets me maintain 4g down to 1 bar otherwise it drops down to 3g for no reason I can tell..

Enhanced High Rate Packet Data (eHRPD). eHRPD is an enhancement of 1xEV-DO (AKA HRPD) that enables LTE to CDMA handover.
00mred00, do you know a way around this problem? I'm just not getting LTE if I don't change my network like this. Seems odd that we should have to do this at all. Is this a problem of the freshROM or a coverage problem or what?
Thanks for the intel.
It happens because sprint has flipped the switch early and less than half of lte towers are on and are still not fully powered up. The 3g signal is stronger (although slower) than the 4g.. Sprint has said that there lte isn't fully functional and that it's currently mostly for outdoor use

Yes! This works! I was having the same issue and sprint stores and tech support could never help! This definitely is the fix. Makes me so angry that it is just a setting on the phone. The people at the Sprint stores were insisting that there was nothing wrong. Dirty liars.

This is pretty much what I have found here in Dallas. I am not convinced we we need a permanent solution for this reason.
For example...the areas I have to do this in are not officially up and running yet. (keep in mind not all of the "orange" is officially up yet either)
I continue to test it. Right now I want to say Atlanta is the furthest in completion

It's been more than a month and it's stuck on Edge. Even when I go to the areas where I would have a strong signal of 4G, it doesn't change into 4G! This is really bugging me. My phone is S-ON, bootloader unlocked, and running Viper Amaze 1.7.0.1. Oh yeah, and T-Mobile is my carrier!

I usually set my phone to GSM Only when I go out, because it saves a lot of battery and still lets me stay connected to the internet.

There is no way to get lte on this phone it doesn't have lte. If it did people would have abysmal battery life because lte consumes too much battery.

Me too. Your friend's Verizon LTE was slow likely due to tower congestion. That's when too many people are on the tower and the bandwidth becomes tiny and people get slow data. I hope it doesn't happen to future T-mobile LTE,
My galaxy S6 is stuck on Edge as network type and it refuses to get out of GSM Only even if I try to set preferred network type. I can see the other network types displayed but when I press them it switches back immediately to GSM Only
