Does setting network mode to Cdma only turn off the Lte? I think it would but I read online that Lte stays on all the time
Sent from my EVO LTE using XDA
It not only tells the device NOT to turn on LTE but also tells the devicenot to LOOK for an LTE signal which in my experience enhanced battery life... Well may not have enhanced battery life to be honest because I was only on charge number 2 when I turned it off LoL but will actually turn it back on and see how battery fates then to compare and do my best to keep using the phone as much as I have been to get proper results for the comparison.

Thanks. I feel like this would be like leaving GPS or Wimax on. Wasting the battery.

Except leaving GPS on doesn't waste battery. It's only using power when it's actually active. This was a big question people asked 2 years ago when the OG Evo came out.
Correct me if I'm wrong.

But with all the apps that try to pull your location I always thought it was hurting my battery on the OG. I am a battery whore so it could have been in my head.

Yes, it is really only active when instructed to do so by certain apps at certain times like posting on FaceBook, using Nav, etc etc.

I hope this isn't a dumb question, but how is the 4g compared to the evo? Is it the same hardware in the phone?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I'm getting a much stronger and consistent 4G signal. After I walked out of Radio Shack, I held up both my old EVO and the new 3D and the 3D had a full strength while the old one had 1 bar.
Sent from my squeeky clean new EVO 3D using XDA Premium App!!!!
Same here. much stronger. 3x the speeds that I was getting with the EVO 4g. Since I doubt the towers changed overnight, all i can say is that radio design improved significantly. I am getting 2x on my wifi as well. In contrast, I am getting two to three times as many signal interruptions (reconnects).
Thanks 4 the response! Now thats another reason to get evo 3d. Anyone else wanna have a response?

Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
This thing has 4G? Huh.. I was too busy with all the other features. The simple fact that Sense 3.0 is fast as fark and the phone doesn't has been keeping me busy.
Sorry if this was ask before...
So i heard if you put your phone on cdma only it will save some battery because is not looking for both signals "dual mode" I believe. Is there a way to put LTE only so my phone don't have to look for 3G signal and maybe save some juice?
Thanks in Advance

Only if you want battery drain. Imho there isn't a phone on the market that comes stock aside from the Maxx that is viable to run LTE only for any extended period of time. The hardware technology hasn't matured enough to keep up with the resource drain LTE uses. I rarely ever have it turned on myself.

If there were, it would no longer be a phone. Currently, on Verizon, LTE is data only. All calls go over the CDMA side.

If you did that, you wouldn't get any phone service either
I swear there was a setting for LTE only. I believe I came across it once while messing around with some settings trying to get 4G back, before I found out it was a outage lol... It bumped me off of 3G and put me on 1X.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using XDA Premium.
There is a setting that is CDMA+LTE only. So you get calls and texts over 1X and have 4G, but if your 4G drops you go to 1X. However, that is how the phone works even with 3G turned on so there are no battery savings.

if you set it for 3g only does that save on battery and how do you do that exactly?
You can actually do it two ways under settings go to power-power mode- and choose normal performace(instead of high) OR under settings- wireless & networks- mobile network settings- network mode and choose cdma only!
Hope that helped!

no doesn't scan when you put it in cdma only mode...BUT there is zero point to it as many have shown zero increase in battery life by changing it, and some have even seen worse battery life to turn it off and slower speeds as well...
This is not like it was with the WiMax(or even LTE in VZ cases before) radio which in those cases the chip that controlled it was completely separate of the SoC and now in the S4 the thing is integrated in the SoC so battery savings are there big.
That and everyone will be getting LTE by end of next year too so isn't really worth the effort to disable it more than it already can be...and battery life i get now is redic as is too!!

Our Verizon bill is ridiculous, and I might be switching to Sprint soon. If so, this is definitely the phone I want. What is this phone like compared to my rezound in terms of battery life, network speed, and performance?
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using Tapatalk 2
-Network Speed (For now)
+With Everything else
Probably the shortest & best way to describe that experience.
your speed is going to be heavily dependent on your location. Ive never used a rezound so I don't know what the difference will be, but the evo is a nice phone. Some minor annoyances, but if you can find a phone that doesn't have some let me know.
Going from a Rezound to an EVO 4G LTE you will experience:
-Much better, bigger screen
-Much faster
-Much better battery life
-Much thinner
-Much better camera
-Sense 4
-Terrible network speeds for a little while (unless you live in KC etc)
It's better in every way, besides the fact that Verizon is superior to Sprint in terms of service.
I have both phones. As stated network speed on Verizon is sick. And the rezound has great screen resolution but the evo is better in pretty much every way. Even the screen is better.the rezound feels like a brick In my hand. The battery life on the rezound is horrible.
If you can wait for the better network then get the evo
I love my shiny 4g iPhone!
You can always give sprint a 14day try to see how speeds are and what not. nd depending on your situation like if u have WiFi at work and home it may not matter to much about speeds.

And keep in mind you can just use the temp number sprint gives you for a week or so and then later port your number over from Verizon
It's rather silly to compare these two phones. I would ask any Sprint customers you know if they're pleased with their service. Also, if you don't qualify for a discount in any other way, get an account as a local credit union. I get 23% off on my bill for being part of a credit union.
This phone is godly. That is all

If you get lte you'll definitely regret it sprint 3G is slower then Verizon and most parts of the US the bill will come down tho, when I had Verizon and the amount of minutes I used to pay 170+ for two lines, it was unlimited data, sprint 3G wasn't as bad so I moved with my wife and we were paying 129$ at month big difference, if Tmobile had the evo I think it will be better at least till LTE rolls out I get up to 12-16 mbps on Tmobile but they do have some dead spots, att and Verizon have the next networks but they charged too much IMO, other then that the evo lte is my favorite phone I am getting the galaxy s 3 on Tmobile and most likely keeping my evo till their network could at least hit 5mbps cause I like that phone the much

Having issues connecting to LTE, have to toggle airplane mode on/off for it to switch back into 4g? anyone know any workarounds or anything
You may get more responses if you gave some back ground info. Sense or aosp rom. Was it working before? Does it work fine for a friend?

These are known issues. The current stock ROM has provided some help but really depends on your area. If you are in a new or spotty LTE area you are likely to face this for a while. I still have this issue in the Baltimore and D.C.markets.

I'm in the same boat as you brother. Since launch day I've had issues like this even before the LTE came to my area. I actually just had to toggle airplane mode a few minutes ago. The mobile data toggle would be grayed out and eventually say disconnected and the mobile data toggle would be stuck and you get no response when pressed. The only way to get it back on is to toggle airplane mode like you said. I am on 3.16 with everything on the latest firmware/etc and rocking Viper 3.1.0. Its not ROM related I've had this problem for a while and on multiple ROMs. Trust me if I could get an S3 I would in a heartbeat...

I'd suggest waiting a little while and see if the problem persists once the area is finished with its LTE build out. If the problem doesn't resolve itself, then you should take it to a Sprint store and show them how it's behaving. They should offer you a replacement if other phones aren't doing the same thing as yours in that area.
Many people say it's a Evo LTE issue, but that just is NOT the case with every Evo LTE. I for one never have to toggle airplane mode or do anything at all. I constantly have LTE at my house and in my surrounding city. When I go between LTE and 3G areas, my data has no problems whatsoever jumping between those connections instantly.

Couple problems with that... I have no Sprint rip off insurance and I'm full blown rooted and customized. The guy in the OP could probably because he just purchased his but I'm pretty sure I'm screwed. Also it only happens maybe every other day its not a constant problem and I'm 100% sure if I took it to my Sprint store they will blame it on being rooted or tell me to screw myself because I don't have TEP.

Haha it just happened again right after I said it rarely happens twice in 1 day. The first picture is the mobile data being stuck/grayed out and unresponsive if touched then the 2nd picture is after cycling airplane mode.

After 3 evo lte replacements with same lte connection problem you have op, I decided to get a note 2 out right. I still have the evo and swap activation between both every now and then. I can tell you that the evo drops lte connection while the note 2 lte connection is just solid in the exact same area.

Insurance doesn't matter. The phone has a 1 year manufacturer warranty, and hasn't been out for a year yet. Also, if you're in contact, they'll want you to stay so they'll want your phone to be working properly.

Unlocking only matters if you're shipping the phone to HTC. Sprint could care less if you're dev unlocked or s-off. They can't blame it in the towers if you're in store and a GS3 or Note 2 that's on display isn't having the same issue as yours is.

I really do love this phone also. The build quality is outstanding. I hope the S3 is as good of a phone as people say. Its amazing how much more $ you could get for an S3 right now vs. The EVO LTE. Doesn't really speak for quality as much as popularity/being well known. On ebay, an iphone 4 sells for as much, or more, compared to an Evo LTE. Kinda like a white Evo LTE sells for more than a black one. Same phone and quality, just that the white one is more popular.
