[Q] Bricked my Tablet - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and was rooting it to install ICS. I got to cytogenmod and tried to locate the zip file per all instructions and it was not able to mount the SD card. I did some research, tried the factory reset and didn't work. I believe I was getting this error because of my encryption. I read the only way to get rid of it was a factory reset. I also used the cytogenmod to do the factory reset, ended up formatting the whole thing and now I have a brick. It still wont mound the SD card and it wont even boot any more to the OS (hangs on the Samsung screen).
I was considering purchasing the external SD card adapter thinking I might be able to reinstall using that, but before I bought that I was wondering if anyone had any ideas. I am thinking I have to unencrypt this in order to install any future OS.
I have spent all day reading the forums, googleing and trying everything but I cannot find anything that will work.
Any help would be appreciated.

Try this guide down from the "Re-“Stocking” Yer System…" section towards the bottom part of the guide. Seen it help many people who's first line was Bricked my Tab. There are files for the 7510 also so don't let the link name bother you. Just use the one for your device. Make sure to triple check every step gets done. I've seen the last step of wipe data factory reset get missed many times.
Let us know if this helps.

Streak frozen on Dell logo.. after fully booting?

Hey,
I just got my phone out to see that it was stuck on the Dell boot logo and required a battery pull to fix it.
Strangely, 5 min before I was writing an email and the gmail app crashed.. but it was still on and running fine.
It's stock 118 and rooted.
Any ideas?
Sent from my Dell Streak using Tapatalk
Do you have any particular reason to still be on 118? (as in build 8116 correct?)
Would it be possible for you to make a nandroid of 118? I have never seen one of that version.
Apologies, I meant 318!
And the reason is because I've just got it the way I want it.. although I am being pestered to update to 351 by my Streak.
Sent from my Dell Streak using Tapatalk
In addition, recently I've tapped the power button to bring it out of sleep and nothing has happened. If I continue to tap, it will bring up a frozeb screen I can't do anything with and requires a battery pull to get it back up.
What's going on with this? It's been so stable for so long...
Help please.

Come on guys, of the hundreds of you on the forum, someone can surely offer some advice....
Sent from my Dell Streak using Tapatalk
This is a broad problem and there are dozens of threads with fixes. I spent days researching the same problem and you should ad well. What worked for me in the end was Streakdroid 1.9.0.
Reset the device to factory settings and try different roms.
Sent from StreakZilla using XDA app.
What I don't understand is why it's only just started happening?
Surely if it was a board problem it should have been happening at least since the update to 318?
If you could link some for me, I'd appreciate it, I've searched on "Freeze" "Power button" but aren't finding anything.
Again, my apologies but nothing I try in the search box finds ANYTHING remotely similar to my issue.
Factory reset. Have you tried that? If that doesn't do it. You need to reflash.
Sent from StreakZilla using XDA app.
I have the same problem as you right now.
I spent two days trying to fix this but failed,
there are so many ways you can try to fix, but i don't know if you have enought knowledge to do it.
1. using dell recovery to do the factory rest, if the problem exists,
2. flash other roms, if the problem exists,
3. using stread Mod recovery to wipe out the cache and user data, if the problems exists,
4. flashing the custom rom Streakdroid 1.90, if the problem exists,
5. redo No.1, and 3, if the problem exists,
6. do the QDL method, if the problem exists
you are at the same stage as me right now, and I am thinking it might be the internal SD card failure problem.
7.
4. using QDL method
If it's a board problem, how would a factory reset fix it?
Is it fact that the board is faulty, or is it just assumed along with possible issues with the internal memory card?
Thanks

After two days of harding working,
I finally get my phone working again.
If QDL can not solve stuck at logo problem, try run internal SD card test, it is more likely the internal SD card is failure, just replace it with a new one should work.
Isn't that a bit easier said than done?
Requires taking most of the device apart, doesn't it?

Unable to flash any other ROM after PhantomTask

hi everyone,
I am actually a long time custom ROM flasher started since Desire days, but registered recently because of this problem I have with the Tab 10.1 Wifi.
Despite me trying everything I can think of, I couldn't flash any other ROMs now, including GalaxyTask, Overcome, AOKP CM9, except the stock Honeycomb sans TouchWiz ROM, and of course PhantomTask. I am pretty sure PhantomTask is the last ROM I've flashed until this problem comes up.
I have made sure that I have done a full clean wipe every time before I flash any of them, wipe data -> cache -> dalvik cache, I even format /system partition, but still none of them works. They always get stuck at boot screen, unless the either one of the two ROMs I've mentioned, stock or PhantomTask.
I am sure that my downloads are complete too, as I've checked MD5 for each of them.
So I really don't know what to do now, any ideas?
I'd really want to test out AOKP
How much time are you giving it to boot up?
I've tried flashing CM9 yesterday, and I left it overnight to boot, it still didn't boot pass the logo, and the battery drained out.
I'll give it another try later
Which version of CWM are you using? If you aren't using one of these try updating:
ClockworkMod - 5.0.2.7
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1090289
Overcome Recovery v5.1.2.6
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1348533
ok I've tried everything I can, and still can't get this to work.
Then finally I've decided to try to unroot and restore everything to stock.
I've followed each and every step of this guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1474971
After everything is done, Odin is showing the pass sign, according to the video its suppose to reboot into Android, but weirdly its stuck at a black screen. So I unplugged it from the PC rebooted it by holding down power button. But now its stuck at the boot logo, and won't proceed, its been more than 10 mins.
I am still able to boot into download mode, but when I boot into recovery wanting to do a factory reset, it shows a black screen and nothing else.
any idea what's going on?
try using the overcome recovery posted above. there's a link in the post that will take you to the over come site. look for the restore yet tab section and use Odin to restore. follow their instructions exactly an make sure it's relevant to your device first.
this has helped MANY people who had some of the strangest problem start fresh. if you want or need specific links just ask I'll go to my PC where its easier to show you.

COOL! Thanks to you for posting that it worked. Knowing we help is one reason we keep trying to help.
For me personally it's the self gratification of just knowing.
It's kinda selfish I know but it makes me feel good and keeps me trying to help even in the littlest ways my limited knowledge allows.
Again thanks back at you.

Just want to make sure I really did soft brick my I605 Note 2 before proceeding..

So before I begin, I will admit up front. I just made a ton of mistakes.... There it's out there.
So I was originally rooted (using this method), but then I received and installed the OTA update for 4.1.2 (mistake #1 apparently). Well silly me I didn't realize it would remove my root. So some of my apps said I wasn't rooted anymore.
"No big deal!" I thought, I'd just re-root myself using the same steps! (mistake #2) Well I still had everything saved on my computer, so I used Odin to root my phone again! Well, here comes the problem.. It gets stuck in an endless restart loop.. It shows the Samsung splash, and then the colorful 4G stuff, and then it just loops between those two forever....
So then I came on here to figure out what was wrong. Yes, I understand my huge mistake in not doing that ORIGINALLY. So I rebooted into the mode where I can download from a computer still (vol-down/home button/power button) and ran the new root method from this forum, crossing my fingers that it would still work... No dice.. Casual says it is restarting my phone, but then it just stops.
Here is my pastebin.
Am I screwed? Do I need to wipe my phone? It wouldn't be the end of the world, since I have most of my data saved, but as far as I understand there isn't any way to save settings or where each app is placed on my phone so I am still going to have to take the time to install each app again and put them where I had them before..
Thanks a lot in advance for everyone's help!!

As long as you can get to Download Mode you aren't hard bricked. You need to check out Droidstyles guide and use section 1b. I believe if you accepted the VRAMC3 update then only root66 or the alternative restore method will let you go back to 4.1.1.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2024207
In short all you have to do is use Odin to flash back to stock.

I just followed those 1b instructions and I'm still stuck in a boot loop, which seems like it means I need to do a factory reset.. right? Thanks for your help!

If you're boot looping I'm pretty sure a factory reset is going to do little to nothing but you can give it a shot. Stranger things have worked. If it doesn't you should flash the alternative ROM file.

Cyanogenmod 10 Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1

Dear members of XDA I kindly ask for your help after hours of searching for a valid solution.
After running on my Tab 10.1 for 3 years it got slower and slower, and I decided to install Cyanogenmod today. The tab is successfully rooted. I got the cm-10.1-20130811-NIGHTLY-p4wifi and gapps-jb-20130301-signed and uploaded them to the internal SD storage. I tried to make a backup from ClockworkMod Recovery v5.8.3.1 but it failed. I did a data&factory reset and installed CM and gapps.
The Samsung logo passes normally but the blue Cyanogen one lasts infinitely. Does anyone have a solution, or could anyone point me the mistake I probably omitted in the process? I should also add that I cannot enter the SD card from WIndows. If I missed a valid point, please point it out. Any help will be appreciated.
After 3 years of using it I do not want to throw it away yet, please help,
Thanks in advance,
Vecanoi

Download the latest cwm recovery from http://droidbasement.com/db-blog/ and flash it. Your problem is that your current recovery can't handle the file system changes in 4.2.2.

Thanks for the insight. I have updated the Recovery to v6.0.3.4. Wiped Delvik, Factory Data Reset and Cache Partition, then installed the zips again. Still nothing. Could the problem be in gapps or in cm-10.1? Is there a way to put newer zips somehow on the device, or am I stuck with the ones I uploaded before the first reset?
Thanks in advance,
Vecanoi

Then try flashing back to stock ICS first then flash cwm, then cm10.1 and gapps. There is nothing wrong with the way you put into your tab. If its there, its there.

Sorry, can you tell me where to find Stock ICS in the Recovery Mod, if it is there? My backup failed as I said.

www.sammobile.com. You extract it, then flash the .tar.md5 file via Odin in download mode just like the recovery.

Thanks eushaun99, at least I'm back to normal ROM, but I'll try again, that's for sure.

[Q] MK2 rooted with Safestrap (E: Unable to mount '/cache')

No matter what I try, I can't seem to get Safestrap to funtion properly on my VZW GS4 MK2. I rooted my phone with Saferoot and installed Safestrap v3.71. I am able to boot into recovery fine but whenever I try to create a new ROM slot it never works. It doesn't matter which one I select, I am able to set the partition sizes for the data and cache and select create slot. It gets about half way done creating and then my phone reboots. I am able to immediately enter back into recovery after it reboots. I activate the ROM slot that was just created but it says the data and cache partitions are empty, also the text in the terminal reads "E: Unable to mount '/cache'. I thought that maybe my phone just doesn't have enough memory so I manually deleted things off my phone, to no avail. I uninstalled Safestrap and completely unrooted my phone and did a factory reset so I know I have plenty of space on my phone. I also get the same error message when attempting to do a nandroid backup through Safestrap. I've tried everything I can think of to get this to work so if anyone has any advice, it would be greatly appreciated.
Ive seen this error once before, and while I did find a fix, the user constantly had minor nagging issues as a result. Usually this is the last thing I recommend but to save you trouble I suggest you back up everything important to a pc and flash a full stock odin tar. If it fails flash with the pit file. Sorry I couldn't give better news lol.

Well that's unfortunate, I was hoping I had just overlooked a minor detail during the installation/setup lol. I will try that once I figure out how to flash a full stock odin tar, as I'm a noob lol. If you have a link to a thread that explains it clearly that would be appreciated, if not I can probably find one fairly easily. Any ideas as to why this is such a rare occurrance? I'm kinda puzzled that there has only been one other user with this error. Thanks for your help!
