Anyone find out how to reset the Flash Counter on Sprint S3 yet? The only ways Ive found are for the International version.
No known counter resets on the American variants as of now.

Because if your carrier detects that you have been flashing, it voids the warranty. No worries, devs will build a workaround.

Can I return my phone if that flash counter shows something beside 0?
Wouldnt hold your breath...
Although I'm sure he'll pull through if its possible this was copied from chainfire's twitter:
Chainfire XDA @ChainfireXDA
@virtuatony the US/CAN models use a completely different method. No idea if/when it'll be supported by Triangle Away. Maybe never.
So wouldn't count on it being soon

my sII had a flash counter of 98 with current binaries = custom and i had the yellow warning triangle. and sprint still helped me, they usually dont care as long as your problem isnt from rooting custom ROMs and or overclocking
I'm thinking of buying a used one of these off craigslist ... but I'm on tmobile and I'm worried that I won't be able to unlock it without having an AT&T account first .... Can I unlock one of these without having an AT&T account? Most steps I've read talk about downloading an unlocker program from the market ... but without an AT&T sim card in the phone I don't think I'll be able to access the market ...
What do you all think?
You don't have to have cell network to connect to a wifi and log into market. You will need to root it also before those apps will work. Just fyi though. You will NOT get 3g/4g on T-Mobile

Thanks for responding!
3g/4g only involve data speeds, right? I have wifi at home and at work and do not use a data plan ... So I can root and then unlock on my home wifi without any AT&T account?
I see no reason you can't. I have done lots of phones that way.

I'm using my unlocked Skyrocket on T-Mobile and I am getting 4G Speeds.
I called AT&T and told them I bought the phone off Craigslist, want to use T-Mobiles network. They asked me for the IMEI and gave me am unlock code no questions asked.

Absolutely nothing considering unlocking the 2 phones is a completely different process. On the i777 we can do it with root only. We don't have to call at&t

Well I tried flashing the T-Mobile modems but when I reboot I don't have service so I guess I should flash the at&t modems since it is the at&t phone guess it doesn't matter I'm using tmobile service
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda app-developers app
It does matter what modem you use and it depends on your location. ANY and ALL modems should give you phone service at least. So you have a problem. A problem talked about much many months ago. Again Backup, wipe completely, and install the factory ATT ROM using odin. Before you set it up do a factory reset for ****z and giggles. Verify that you have phone service. Then install recovery and superuser. Then install a T-mobile modem. Verify you have data and phone service. Then install the ROM of your choice. Do not reinstall a modem.
And please quit posting everywhere. You have been told what to do by a few now and all you do is rant everywhere. Maybe you should have purchased a T-mobile phone to use on T-mobile and saved yourself the trouble.
Yea but they charged more for the t-mobile version ima prolly wait and sell this one for 300 and put that with my check 2 hrs pf battery life is sad i thought the note would be better then that lol but i already did all that and i know im in a t-mobile 4g area cuz i had a t-mobile phone before and i tried all the modems they are not compatible for this phone im thinking the guy lied to me i think o might have a foreign phone again

super everything, and look for SIM unlock.
this will instruct you how to unlock from ATT (getting a code from them) then unlock.
just read it the yesterday as a matter of fact. RANGER CAPTAIN is the author of the thread. in the first post, scroll down a bit and it is listed with some MOD's.
titled "UOCKING STEPS"
once unlocked, then you can put your Tmobile SIM in. as he states this only needs to be done once. you can then flash other ROM's and the process should stick.
good luck
Thanks man sorry for being a noob lol

by the way, if you e spending a lot of time in recovery or constantly flashing something, your battery is going to SUPER SUCK.
your battery should be in the higher end of charged when flashing. recommended 70% or better. could probably get away with 55 or 60 though. again, every time you flash, you take a hit.
Ah ok but a friend of mine used it today it was fully charged went from 100% to 5% in like an hr and 45 min and i was reading on the sim unlock this phone was already unlocked when i purchased it that's how i was able to get t-mobile on this phone i get 4g but it doesn't stay connected i have to restart a lot to get it connected again and most of the time i have no bars so idk maybe i should stop buying unlocked phones lol

Anyone,
I'm not an android noob, but I left Android a few years back (2.3.3 / 2.3.4) due to work changing to iPhones for data encryption reasons. I came back to Android when more Samsung phones started supporting ODE (on device encryption). I would like to root my phone and have done so on other Android phone's using SuperOneClick, CWM, etc.
I am reading that there is a secure boot loader on the AT&T version of this phone in USA, so I am screwed in gaining root access to the device? I'd really like to delete all this bull**** bloatware they've installed... and a tethering app without using the carrier option.
Can anyone help?
I have the AT&T version as well. I'm not 100% sure that the bootloader is the reason for no root yet. Other phones have locked bootloaders and can still be rooted.
Running custom roms might be another story. I get the impression that because this is not a "mainstream" phone that it does not get top priority. For example, the Moto X on AT&T has a locked bootloader and that's rooted already, but it's a very popular phone.
Hopefully we'll get some love sooner rather than later. I would be happy with root along with an easy way to go back to stock.

Does straight talk get lte on the at&t galaxy mega and is the upload and download speeds fast ? I have mines unlocked and wanted to know if I should jump ship from at&t and save money and go with straight talk?

Yes it does go in Q&A.
There are working models at best buy. I'm not 100% sure how you would check...probably just boot into the bootloader and see what it says.
The T-Mobile version boot loader is usually unlocked.

I'm not buying until I know for sure. Even then I might go with HTC since KNOX Security sucks.
I'm gonna tell T-Mobile as soon as I get mine that everything's working fine, don't want a replacement, but note that knox was already tripped when I got it. Ha ha
Not sure how they can dispute that later for warranty issues.
Even though I'm probably not going to root it or anything for a while.

T-Mobile WILL have LOCKED BL
Guys here
This time around it looks like AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile will have S5 with locked bootloader. (Only Sprint's S5 will have unlocked BL).
1. AT&T started with S4 and continued the tradition there after (G2, N3 etc.) (Also no dev edition AFAIK)
2. T-Mobile started with LG G Flex and looks like it will continue the tradition with S5. (Source) (Also no dev edition AFAIK)
3. Verizon started who knows when? (At least verizon is nice enough to have Dev edition, albeit expensive as hell).
What does all this mean?
Well you can't have "traditional" custom recovery so that means NO ASOP, NO custom Kernels etc.
You can have a recovery called "Safestrap" which will allow you to flash only TW based ROMs and simple MODs such as bootanimations but nothing more.
That is possible.
Not a confirmation that the T-Mobile variant with be locked though.
With the most recent update to the s4 they could have made it locked but they didn't as far as I can tell. Just has knox on it.
Still will need to wait and see I guess.

Everyone knows development only really takes off after about 6 months to a year. Give the devs time to crack the possible locked bootloader.

I got a tmobile s4 and note 3 both with updated 4.4.2 bootloaders and they are not locked. what att do or verizon has nothing to go with tmobile. as far as the lg flex that was lg decision not tmobile as they are all locked. knox has nothing to do with a locked bootloader. Alcatel OneTouch line are because of Secure Lock, and are still modern phones they are selling. You have the burden of proof on your hands. I for one wouldn't buy a T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 5 before knowing 100% it's unlocked or unlockable. Besides... the Note 3 is still unlocked and quite a comparable device!
We'll see in a few weeks.
