[Q] Reset Flash Counter (Sprint) - Galaxy S III Q&A, (US Carriers)

Anyone find out how to reset the Flash Counter on Sprint S3 yet? The only ways Ive found are for the International version.

No known counter resets on the American variants as of now.

Because if your carrier detects that you have been flashing, it voids the warranty. No worries, devs will build a workaround.

Can I return my phone if that flash counter shows something beside 0?

Wouldnt hold your breath...
Although I'm sure he'll pull through if its possible this was copied from chainfire's twitter:
Chainfire XDA ‏@ChainfireXDA
@virtuatony the US/CAN models use a completely different method. No idea if/when it'll be supported by Triangle Away. Maybe never.
So wouldn't count on it being soon

[Q] SIM Unlock Samsung Galaxy S2

Not finding reliable infor on this anywhere. I need to do a SIM unlock on my S2. AT$T says "the manufacturer provides this code", and the manufacturer says that "AT$T provide this code". I say, I'll get what I need from XDA, the only reliable source of info. How do I SIM unlock this damn phone?
moderators will tell you to do more searching next time. This was easy to find.

Hi, i want to sim unlock my phone, but if i do that i am losing Warranty, so is there some app to lock my phone again for the same mobile operator (in my case mts telekom Serbia). thanks
The app mentioned in that tutorial backs it all up for later restore if needed.

I believe if you're with them (AT&T) for more than 6 months, you can ask them for the unlock code (say, for travelling aboard)
Please delete this thread. The unlock thread was on the first Page ffs

Well this phone is a bit different then most (like our Recovery being part of the actual kernel) so perhaps other phones don't have a simple software unlock and you HAVE to get the code from ATT. I know my old Moto Backflip didn't have a software option.

International version, root, warranty

Hi guys,
I am about to buy the S III international/European version. I would like to use it with a sim card I already have from a different carrier, and thus I will need to unlock it. The research I did though tells me that I need to first root it which is not reversible and I will void my warranty because of the counter cannot be reset.
I am not interested to put any roms or anything, I just want to use it with a different carrier from my country. So can someone confirm that rooting it will void my warranty or that has been overcome already. If not, will it be possible in the future, say in the next month or so?
You can root it and you can use voodoo sim unlock from the play store and that will unlock your phone.
Afterwards if you need to you can use triangle away which will reset the counter to zero and Samsung will be none the wiser if you have to send it back for warranty.

Flash Note 2 back to verizon

I am trying to purchase a verizon note 2 from a guy, but he used it in Guam on IT&E telecom. He had to change the SPC and used it solely on CDMA while there. I'm trying to get it to work back on the VZW 4g network, but can't find a great guide on getting it back....
Can anyone help point me in the right direction to get it to recognize the verizon network again? Putting a SIM in just sits at the activate screen and never activates..
Verizon checked the ESN and it is clean.
Thanks

I wish I could help you more bit that's the only thing I can think of. Me personally I would just take it to Verizon. If it has a clean esn they should be able to activate it.
By the way when you meet up, it's under settings/more settings/mobile networks/network mode.

No worries, thank you, I didn't think to check that the other day... I did take it to a corp verizon store the other day, they checked the ESN, but they no longer do in store tech support, so they couldn't reflash/whatever needed to be done. the guy just kept burning SIM cards trying to get it to activate and it wouldn't...

If it has the latest update, VRAMC3, then all you have to do is flash the Root66 or alternate recovery ROM. If that doesn't fix it I would suggest flashing Root66 with the NAND Earase checked.
If its on VRALJB or VRALL4 then you can flash the VRALJB or VRALL4 .tar's in Odin and be done with it.
You need to read Droidstyles guide in the Android Development section, it will explain everything you need to know about going back to stock, its in section 1B I believe.

Triangle away for mj7?

Can anyone tell me if triangle away works with galaxy s4 mj7 rooted? Too scared to take chances so far sunce with my last s4....
Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
I have used it, but it doesn't get rid of the 'Samsung custom' bootscreen with the unlocked padlock picture on it. Well, it does until I reboot again and then it's back. If I reboot yet again, it's gone. If I reboot again, it's back. I haven't been able to figure it out yet. But I haven't had any bad side effects from using it, if that's what you mean...

I've used 3.0 and it made the custom lock go away, and also un-rooted my phone. then I rooted it again and ran triangle away and it seems to stay Samsung now.
I'm being very careful since for sch-I545 it says you need an unlocked boot loader and mj7 has a locked bootloader

So you didn't trip Knox? I don't know a lot but I believe there's only a mod to flash via TWRP to unlock the hotspot. Also some ROMs have this same native hotspot hacked already.

I am currently running the Odexed Blue ROM. There are a few others to choose from also that have the hacked hotspot but a few use those Xposed modules but my experience with them wasn't so good. Odexed blue is more of a stock themed ROM with some tweaks.

I'm sure the data speeds being tethered will be the same result it's just nice to have the hotspot hacked so you don't have to find a WiFi tether app, download it and set it up (which sometimes it's a pain in the @$$). Your phone has this preinstalled its just locked. I would rather not have another app in my app drawer personally. Also in the ROM I'm running there is a toggle for the native hotspot app all you have to do is hit it and you can begin tethering (see screenshot) vs. having to navigate to the WiFi tether app every time. No problem that's what xda is for just don't forget to hit the thanks button
Sent from my SM-N900P using Tapatalk 2
Now since this is the native hotspot..is there a way your service provider knows your using their hotspot? I was under the notion that with a tether app, they only see data being used. But they dont know if your just streaming or browsing on your phone regularly. Whereas the native hotspot they can somewhat tell what you are doing.

Do you have Sprint? I've used the native hotspot with no issues. Sprints data is unlimited so even if they can somehow tell (which they can't, data in and out is data in and out) they are still unlimited.

Haha no problem. Just know that when you flash a custom recovery (TWRP) you will trip Knox and your warranty thru Samsung is void and there is no way to reset the Knox counter (yet). This only affects the Samsung warranty and does not affect Sprint's insurance. I've only read some people hitting like 100gb/month and Sprint will possibility tell you to slow down or they will cancel your contract. I've tethered my phone to my smart TV with Netflix a few times and only reached like 40gb so I see making 100gb/month quite hard.
Sent from my SM-N900P using Tapatalk 2
Ooooh yea 100gb would be hard for me as well...I average about 18gb a month, and I thought that was alot. I heard about the knox trip, and that doesn't bother me. So after work I am looking forward to being a note 3 member. Thanks again for your help.

just a bit of info...
check the development section for the wifi hotspot mod.
i had a thread there, and there is another by joshbeach
it is totally possible to get the wifi hotspot without twrp.
as long as you have root you can copy the two files over manually using any root enabled file explorer.
hope that helps.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk
if you dont want to flash the hotspot mod....you can try WIFI TETHER ROUTER (need to be rooted) it works pretty well
I believe somewhere in the development thread there is a way to get hotspot without tripping knox.

But tripping the knox file really doesnt matter if you dont break your device right?
Sent from my GT-N5110 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
Tripping knox is just to let your carrier and the manufacturer know you altered your device's software thus voiding your warranty. You will get a service refusal from both your carrier and manufacturer on either hardware or software. So as long as you know this then go ahead trip knox and have fun. I mean you can now upgrade every 6 months now with a phone trade in or a 1 year upgrade with no phone trade in. They don't even check if you tripped knox when your trading in your phone. So go ahead trip knox we're getting upcoming phones anyway. Out with the old and in with the new.

How would Sprint know if you tripped Knox? I used the one up program and gave them a rooted s3 with a stock ROM as my trade in. The sprint stores around me can barely navigate thru the phones UI let alone would have any idea how to check if knox was tripped. So your saying Sprint can tell and would refuse me service thru their TEP service?
Sent from my SM-N900P using Tapatalk 2
Yes the techs can check. All they have to do is go to download mode and look at the odin bootloader where is say knox 0x0 will be 0x1 letting them know you altered your device
