Hi, i guess u too are noob like me..
Follow this video guide.. its pretty easy..
Youtube - How to unlock bootloader for xperia arc by android soul
(m not allowed to post external links here.. sorry )
Youtube - How to root xperia arc by android soul
They are pretty comprehensive and you should get it easily..
Note:
1. You need to unlock boot loader before you start rooting
2. There is one more easy method of rooting by the DooMlord. But m not sure it will work in your firmware.. coz i had the same firmware and it din work for me...

You can root without unlocking bootloader, I suggest searching as you will find your answers

Sorry, if the question is silly, but it will clear both mine and XzbitDMx's doubt..

Dude what's wrong asking here ??
Can't rooting be device specific ?
And I have started this post in general section only after searching everywhere on xda !!
Rooting for unlocked bootloaders is available but not for locked bootloaders !

And mpiekp's method is not direct! I am looking for a direct method.

Right now it's the only way for locked bl.......
Really restore a backup and flash a kernel is hardly a taxing method, if that's too much effort why not just wait.........

If you can't understand what's written on here, have a look on youtube and you'll find some video guides to follow. It should make things easier for you.

i have try to watch at you tube before, but i can't do oso =.=
I'm guessing that rooting isn't your best option then to be honest. But if you are determined to root your device, then your best option is to wait until you are better able to understand what the guides say.
That's the best I can for you, unfortunately.

root / recovery on xperia s with ICS fw 6.1.A.0.452

Hello I am a little confused in the various guidelines and procedures .. wondering some light on:
I state that I have .. xperia s updated to 6.1.A.0.452 ICS ... when I go to download the file server prerooted.img in XDA I see that folder there are two GB of KA PREROOTED while in the ICS folder there nothing .. so I wanted to ask but the guide and for those who have GB installed or can I flash one of them having already KA ICS? .. and if so, what one?
sorry for my bad english
use this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1729280
Are you saying you want root access and recovery on your phone?
If so unlock the bootloader -
http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/
Then you can fastboot an auto rooting kernel from the site like advanced stock kernel. Job done (there are guides for this in the stickies at the top of the forum)

First of all post in question and answer forum..
Second if you want to flash a pre rooted image then you have to unlock your bootloader, and you can find the pre rooted ics image in Android dev section..
If you want root and recovery without unlocking then go to the link in my signature..
Enjoy
Use the thank button, it's there for a reason

Here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1695514
If you rooted your .431, you don't need downgrade to gb, run step III from your rooted 431 and follow instruction ( in step 4 flash 587 ftf instead 431, you can fimd ,587 ftf for your phone in this forum) and ( recommend to use flashtool to flash your 587 rom ft f)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1898236
Here you should check this thread up. Though I was hoping someone can explain the flashing kernel part to me.
I've tried to update to .587 OTA and got "could not install" error after reboot =/

Well, follow the guide on Sony Discussion Forums. Moderator Nabeel has posted it. I can't give you the link as I can't post URLs till now. But type "Sony Xperia Root Guide" on Google and open the first link "Main: {GUIDE} How to Root Xperia™ Smartphones...". I rooted my Xperia P using this only.
