Hi
I just flashed my GS2 for the 2nd time via Odin and everything went fine, no errors or something like that.. The problem is that now i'm stuck on a boot loop.
The phone keeps restarting at the first boot animation and i can't do anything..
I've tried to reflash with other roms, stock rom's, stock kernel but nothing works..
Can i have some help please? :/
Thank you
EDIT: Just noticed that this is not the right section for posting this sort of things.. Can i have it moved to the right section please? Thanks
EDIT2: Forgot to mention that this started to happen since i did an hard reset using the *2767*3855# method.
Turn off the phone -> Hold volume up + power + home -> in recovery wipe data/factory reset and wipe cache.
That worked for me when I was locked in a bootloop the other day at least, can't say if it'll work for you though :/

This worked for me.. Many thanks!
Im still getting this!
I can flash a rom and it reboots, so I boot upinto recovery and wipe data and cache and its still mucing up
please im going insane
I fought with this BIG time.... it did not matter what I flashed or reset, I was constantly stuck in a boot loop.... but then Chainfire said this, took me a couple of tries but it worked.... I did not full understand the gist of it, but the end result is my phone is up and running....
remember, once you flash the stock rom, you have to do the recovery reset (should be blue instead of orange).
I will post the link in a second, I have to find it, lol
"Villains ROM doesn't include kernel AFAIK (yet!). Again, don't fear. This is a Samsung device, unless you botched up flashing a bootloader, you aren't going to break it. It is epically difficult to break Samsungs by accident.
See this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278 for some stock firmwares. Do a full wipe after flashing (from recovery). I advise the XEU KE7 variant."
Possible fix
Hi,
I had a similar problem and following exactly Intratech's post #108 from the following thread solved my issue:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278&page=11
The three file install went OK and then I was able to install the latest "one file" tars as usual.
Intratech's #108:
I assume you know how to use Odin. Download the firmware from this link and extract everything to one folder: http://hotfile.com/dl/116656855/2ccf2f4/I9100XWKDF.rar.html
The password for the file is: samfirmware.com
Start Odin and put these in the following
PDA: CODE_I9100XWKDF_CL170898_REV02_user_low_ship.tar
CSC: GT-I9100-MULTI-CSC-OXXKDD.tar
Modem: MODEM_I9100XXKDJ_REV_02_CL996627.tar
Forget the rest of the files. DO NOT SELECT A PIT FILE AND DO NOT TICK REPARITION.
Put your phone into download mode and connect the usb cable. When the Odin box turns yellow press flash and wait until phone reboots. The first boot will take a while... be patient.
It's 2:58am here so I'm off to bed. I don't know how to make this simpler for you.

Through Recovery Vol Up + PWR + Home release at bootscreen.

Its a wipe and reset operation resets to defaults .
2. i havent got a backup of my stock rom before, will i still be able to reset the phone just like i got it like originally?

You wipe to remove user crap restore settings to default in case of problems .
Flashing a rom replaces the embedded firmware and that rom becomes the embedded firmware .

which means im just cleaning the data and all that but the Rom is still the one i flashed before-litening rom?
Yes of course it is you replace the original factory firmware when flashing a rom . No way to recover something you have wiped and installed another firmware in its place .

So i managed to solve the problem that i had.
When i said that i could flash only the stock one, i was flashing XXKI3 as one file after each failed attempt to flash a custom one.
So i tried and flashed another stock rom, again as 1 file. after the flash was done the phone again stucked at first screen wit the triangle.
After that i thought that something was really messed up in the phone and flashed again XXKI3 with PIT and multiple files and offcourse RE-Partition.
After that flash a stock rom with 1 file and modified bootloader from Intratech's thread, this way you can also reset the binary caunter with a jig (can find many on ebay).
After finish flashing and first boot
root with CF kernel and flash any custom rom. It worked as it should. Now i am on a custom rom and trying to see which one suits me best.
Thank Jiganet for some may be needed modified bootloader which is recommended so you can reset binary counter.
Everyone tha nk you for your suggestions and help.
any rom that i install is not getting beyond the bootlogo. i had xxki3 stock with cf-root xxki3 kernel.
every install i make full wipe on everything before(data, cache, dalvik).
any body any idea?
only stock rom working.
The first boot takes some time. Are you waiting that long?

1. Enter Clockworkmod recovery
1a. Do a Backup (not a must, but i suggest) from the cwm recovery of your current rom/settings.
2. Wipe Data/Cache Factory reset
3. Flash the new rom you want
4. Again (not needed but well..) Wipe Data/Cache Factory Reset
5. Wipe Cache
6. Advanced -> Wipe Dalvik Cache (this is why you get bootloops)
7. Reboot to system
Wait 4-5 minutes and you will have your new, shiny working rom.
Hope it helps, cheers

Mh strange, the strange is.. with the stock rom is working.
Looks like your phone dosnt like the rom you are flashing so the quesion now is:
Are you sure, you are flashing a rom your phone can read? I know the i9100G and the AT&T versions cant be flashed with the standard (i9100) S2 roms (there is a specific thread i think here on xda for those versions)
mine is an unbranded i9100 from Greece. i am flashing the correct roms.

In CWM >mounts and storage> format system
Please state detailed steps you did when flashing a ROM and what kind of ROM.. That will help alot on trouble shooting your problem.

every body read first post managed to solve this.
Hi was there a solution to this problem as I seem to get it with EVERY rom I try to install from zip?
Hi to all, this is my first Post and this is my First Android I come from an iPhone 2G, iPhone 3g, iPhone 3GS and my last phone was an iPhone 4!!! now I'm extremely happy with my new SGS2!!!
I have been searching a lot!!! for a solution for this flash loop issue,
1 - I have flash to a stock 2.3.5 KI3 samfirmware,
2- then I have Odin>PDA>cf-root-KI3-4.2.tar to root my phone.
3 - After that I downloaded 3 custom roms, DarkyROM2_KI3, VillainROM-3.0.0-signed and Cyanogen cm_galaxys2_full-112. put them on my root internal sdcard.
4 - booted to ClockworkMod Recovery menu.
5 - Wipe Data/Factory Reset
6 - Wipe Partition Cache.
7 - Install Zip from sdcard.
and every thing seems ok, but when i restart, it stays on the boot loop, even if i manage to enter to CWM Recovery menu it says that E: Can't Mount ... bla bla bla
I had been trying to put a custom rom so much that my binary counter is now on 10
I'm going to try what you wrote on the first post!
Restore to stock KI3 firmware using pit file and repartition.
after that install the cf-root kernel. Restart and try to install any custom firmware.
Hope it works
Not it did not work, Maybe the problem was Wipe Partition cache after installing new rom, going to stock and repeating
I'm having this exact same problem, please post here if you find an answer to your problem.
I first installed checkrom with no problems, then i decided to wipe and try install dlevrom but after rebooting i'm left with the same problem as above.
It's only when i flash stock 2.3.5 KI3 through odin with pit, repartition, all checked that my phone works.
I then repeat the steps of flashing cf root through odin and then try flash a custom rom, either checkrom or dlevrom and neither work.
Another try another fail!
I have no idea on what else can I do!!! tried again and nothing! I tied cf-root 4.1 and nothing and cf-root 4.2 and nothing!.
I'm having this exact same problem, please post here if you find an answer to your problem.

After i got the stuck on boot! I can restore to stock by only using the PDA, I don't need to set the pit file again!, but I'm usign all the files on Odin to see If that makes any difference but nothing!!!
I wonder how mariosraptor did it!!!! Can you throw us a light???
I have explained it on first post. Just follow step by step the first post directions.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
Nope it didn't work
The steps I did:
1. Restore to stock using PIT, PDA, PHONE, CSC.
2. After it boots root the phone with cf root 4.1 for ki3
3. Use CWM Recovery to flash the new rom on internal sdcard.
I have been doing it with wipe data, wipe cache, wipe develk.
Nothing is there a step that im missing?
Thanks
SOLVED!!!!!! JAJAJA
The only problem, was one minor thing, a little thing called Bootloader!
I installed the old bootloader!
find it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
And after that every thing worked perfectly, no boot loops!!!!
Hope it helps!!!
BEFORE anyone mention that this problem has been mentioned before, read twice.
i was on omega rom, it kept rebooting. so i cleared cache and all that stuff. shut down the phone, booted in download mode. tried flashing my stock firmware KK3, it goes up to flashing kernel then fails.
when i turn the phone off and on i get the a different screen saying firmware upgrade failed try restoring via kies.
i tried lp2 firmware it flashes fine. could it be that i was using ICS before and now it doesnt let me go back to 2.3.6
pls respond with solutions
Omega has ICS themed ROMs but no ICS firmware ROMs so it wont be cos of that.Did you try a full system wipe before the flash??
boot to recovery and wipe cache partition. Then go to "mounts and storage" and format System/Data/Cache and then do a factory reset then reboot. The Phone probably wont go past the Galaxy-S logo so pull the battery then put it back in and boot to download mode and try the flash again. If that doesnt work you could try to flash the F/W that works and then flash a new kernel. After that try the 2.3.6 flash again.

Thx I will try it soon. But how come I can flash ics kp8 and lp2 roms
Are you using the new bootloader then?
That one Im not sure of but I have read on other threads that people have had to "repartition" their phones to be able to flash back from ICS.Not bieng on ICS I dont see why you cant as the Omega ROM was just themed.Im on the latest Omega and its 2.3.6. so 100% positive it wasnt ICS.Also Try stupid things like another com port.Happened to me once. The one I was using when I had an i9000 stopped letting me flash it via Odin when it reached the same stage every time I tried.Dont Know why.Just had to change ports.Try everything:
1.Full wipe and flash.....If that dont work then...
2.Flash F/W that works then change kernel and flash old bootloader(as mentioned above)never know, might work.
http://www.multiupload.com/LQQBRQVJUD
Flash it in PDA in Odin.
ALso you could try a program called "Fus Downloader"

True.Same thing happened to my mate.He has an i9000 and Odin stopped flashing his phone but only if he used a PIT file so I gave him my i9100 cable and it started flashing his phone again with PIT file selected.Weird how things work sometimes for no real reason.Anyway Nandroid backups are always a good call.could have saved some trouble the this case.Ive got a Nandroid backup on my phone and copied to DropBox thats months old but it would get me out of trouble if this sort of thing happened to me Even though its old as.Gotta have that saftey net.

Mate,thats a strange one alright.
Any luck yet.I was thinking that you might have to look for a package that has the older 4 file flash with pit.Its possible that maybe you need to repartition your device.Might be hard to find thought.
Hi, do you know which files left after flashing another stock rom into device? No matter system file or any type of any other file. What is the thing that flashing cannot change in device?
and
if there is, is it possible to reset ALL?
Flashing a stock rom will replace system files; files like music and videos etc should stay on the internal storage.
If you want to clear all items off your phone then you should:
1. Format the internal storage, can be done through Settings on the device
2. A factory reset from the recovery menu.
3. Clear Dalvik Cache if your recovery menu allows the option.
Edit: Some stock roms do not have modem files etc, if the stock rom you are about to flash does not have a modem file then the original modem file will remain.

When I flashed my stock ICS, the internal memory was formatted :silly: , so copy your stuff to sd card and remember to remove it before flashing :good:
Flashing a zip from recovery is not going to format anything, if you do not tell it to. However if you flash a custom rom it may not boot if you have not wiped your data.

Not sure if it's Android version related but have flashed stock firmwares before and have had photos (not in DCIM) remain on the phone.
Still, common sense to take anything off the phone that you want before clearing it down.
Thank you for replies,
I asked it because after I flashed a stock rom into my device, for awhile later system status changed from normal to modified although i didn't root or anything else to effect system. I think there are some files left after flashing and it causes my system to realize there are something changed. What I have to do to turn my device into never used status?

I flashed Wanamlite 3.7 custom rom and then went to I9300XXBLG8 (4.0.4 so I could officially update to JB). Before flashing I9300XXBLG8 I used Triangle Away and then flashed the firmware.
There's a warning on the page that some firmwares will not reset.
I wrote a little guide on another forum for restoring the warranty on an S3, may help?
1) Carry out the usual procedures such as backing up anything you want to keep, contacts, sms, data etc.
2) Install and run Triangle Away on your device (please read the XDA thread and take note of the 'in app' warnings.
3) Once Triangle Away application has been used the phone will reboot. Turn off the phone and go into download mode, check the statuses say 'No' & 'Official'.
4) While in Download Mode boot straight into to Recovery Mode and Wipe data/factory reset, then wipe cache and wipe dalvik cache.
5) Put the phone into download mode.
6) Extract the Stock Firmware so that you have a .MD5 file.
7) Open Odin and click on the PDA field and select the .MD5 file. Leave all other options alone.
8) Plug the phone in using USB cable, wait for yellow 'com port' to appear and hit start.
9) Leave the PC and phone alone until the process has finished and the phone has fully booted.
Your phone should now have a valid warranty but we should check a few things to make sure this is the case.
Check your firmware is the same as the firmware you have downloaded:
Dial *#1234# to bring up the firmware version. If your CSC is incorrect then we will need to change this.
To change your CSC you will need your IMEI number.
Dial *#06# and note down the 15 digit number on a piece paper.
Dial *#272*yourIMEI# and install your relevant CSC (I'm in the UK and Network Unlocked so my CSC = BTU). Your phone will factory reset and reboot.
Your phone is pretty much ready now. If you wish to send off your phone for repair or any other reason that may require the warranty to be valid then continue on to make sure there is no sign of tampering with the phone.
Once the phone has booted up, format the internal storage from Menu > Settings > Storage > Format SD card
If you wish you can then connect the phone to Samsung Kies on the PC and check for any updates.
Double check that both the Binary Counters have been reset.
Your phone now has a valid warranty with Samsung.
Thank you very much for this guide, I will apply all the steps one by one. But before to begin I have a couple questions:

CP: I9300XXDLID
CSC: I9300OXADLJ4 something wrong?
* I'm living in austria and was using austria rom, but flashed official UK (BTU) stock rom via Odin and it is still current rom in my device. But I've found a CSC included BTU stock rom too in this forum. If I flash it, is the all gonna be fixed, maybe?

No not a problem at all, the Dalvik Cache relates to installed apps and is just another step to ensure a complete wipe.
The option to wipe Dalvik Cache is usually found in CWM recovery, so if no CWM is installed then you are unable to do so.
Thank you for the info, so nothing to worry about Dalvik thing. Do you know something about my other two question too?

1. The firmware shouldn't be a problem, it's for the UK S3 but the modem is European...your phone is network unlocked isn't it?
2. It shouldn't be a problem and if you do encounter problems then I would jut flash the LJ4 firmware again.
I was searching about it right now. And I realized that my phone was network locked. I used an app called GalaxSim Unlock and now it is unlocked

4) While in Download Mode boot straight into to Recovery Mode and Wipe data/factory reset, then wipe cache and wipe dalvik cache.
5) Put the phone into download mode.

Step 3 was succesfully. But after I did 4th and came back into download mode, counter was 1 and status was custom. That's why I had to do all once again and this time skipped the 4th step. So I flashed the stock rom without wiping data, cache and dalvik cache. Does it make a problem?

Not sure if the firmware LJ4 is giving you the problem but you could try flashing I9300XXBLG8 and then updating through Kies to LJ4?
