I've recently flashed my first rom and kernel, but the problem is that after flashing it my display has turned noticeably dimmer, not dark, but it's as if its become really saturated and doesn't produce the bright image it used to.
I guess re flashing the stock kernel could work, but the problem is I forgot what my original one was. It's an Australian Vodafone, if that's any help. I've been trying to flash lots of kernels to try and make the screen brighter, but nothing has really helped. I've also tried to do a reset of my phone, but that hasn't changed anything either, so I don't know what to do from there.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This is certainly not related to VillianROM in any way.
I think it's a hardware problem - there's something wrong with display panel. If the backlight is dead you should barely see very dark image on the screen in bright lightning conditions.
Anyway, looks like there's nothing you nor your friend can do to fix it. You need to send it to service.

If the phone has USB debugging enabled by accident (I guess it's hard to turn it on blindly) then you can access it using adb shell. If you have custom recovery image installed, such as Clocwork or Amon_RA, you can boot to it and fave full access to your phone through USB using adb (or fastboot) so you can flash new ROM images.

Yes, what he said ^^.
I'll just add one more thing. To get to custom recovery easily, pull the battery out and put it back in again. Then perform what ever key combination to boot custom recovery.
Good luck to your friend!
You might also have more luck posting in the Wildfire sections where they me able to help. It does seem like a Hardware issue with the screen to me? Was it dropped or anything?
It seems like hardware. Probably connection between screen and PCB.
ya his phone dropped many times, ya it seems like hardware issue to me also..
Problem solved, thank you.
The soft keys light stay on how many time?
For quite a awhile.... I'd say well over a minute and I checked in the display settings and nothing, it's not set to "on all the time".
Just powered off again, I'm gonna guess that it'll stay on until I pull the battery out.... brutal. Maybe I got screwed in buying the phone.
That's not right, take the battery out, run it down and recharge it. Turn off the soft key lights in settings and if that's the only problem then you can just live with them always off.
If you really want them though, if you just bought it you can always take it back and explain the problem to a samsung shop, get it fixed. But it sounds software based, so flashing a new ROM would probably fix it, don't know if you want to do that though.
Well, with the option to turn off the soft keys permanently it just hangs there.
Whether I'm shutting it down or restarting, nothing happens.
Restart just a black screen, lights on when the option is on and black screen when I turn off soft key lights.
I think they put ICS on it, version 4.0.3 and updated maybe via the carrier?
Not sure if it was via a ROM.

You have an SGH-T989. You should go to the T989 forums. This is the forums for the i9100, a different model of the Galaxy S2.
Try to wipe all ( MAKE BACKUP ! ) and install the latest firmware.

OP, if you choose to follow this advice (which actually isn't bad advice, provided you use the proper firmware for your device) just make sure you use a firmware for the SGH-T989. (I linked you to the proper forum above)
DO NOT use any firmwares kernels or ROMs from this forum, as they are all firmwares kernels and ROMs for the I9100, which again, is a different device.
Unless, of course, your actually WANT to brick your device. If it seems I'm stressing the correct device model thing a bit too much, it's because I see tons of people who do just this.
No, no, I'll DEFINITELY use the right/proper ROMS, thanks for pointing out I was in the wrong area, definitely appreciate that.
Now by wiping all, do you guys mean to go into the menu and do a factory reset?
That'll mean I'll end up looking the phone, won't I?
Not sure how to approach this as it seems to be running ICS and I don't want to run the risk of screwing things up more so.

If by "looking" you meant "locking", no. Factory reset just wipes the /data partition
I rooted my Phone using this video as a guide: /watch?v=WPHL8rQwThc
It worked perfectly, but I wanted more (should have stopped myself at this point)
Decided that I wanted to overclock, but I needed the Perseus.alpha11.tar kernel. I flashed that using Odin and then everything went downwards.
I can't get into recovery mode, only in Odin.
I'm seeing a blank screen with a blue led dimming and getting brighter and the capacative buttons are on. I tried finding a firmware version for my device on samsungupdates, but the list seems too big. I'm not sure if the PHN is the correct version for mine. I'm using the international GS3.
What should I do and what information do you require to help me?

It seems I fixed it by using this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1835931
I'm glad it got a happy ending and I hope others can learn from this.
So I was upgrading from CM9 to CM10, but could not reboot the system (every time I hit reboot, it goes back to the recovery). I asked around and realized that I had to ODIN back to stock. Did that, ODIN said passed (green box), but on the phone, as soon as the vibrant logo popped up, it went completely black, then a battery flashing screen appeared. There is nothing I can do. I tried everything (turn off phone, pull battery,...it goes back to the same darn battery flashing screen). I even tried to ODIN again and again but not luck. Any one can help me please ? Thanks in advance guys
Did you have repartition checked in Odin?
Would you prefer my usual method of conflict resolution?

Hello to everyone, I want to ask for your help!
First of all sorry for my bad english! I will try to explain the situation.
Last December (2014) I bought a THL W200s phone, from China. It's impossible for me to find the seller, because my uncle that was living in China for 1 year, ordered the phone via TaoBao but he doesn't remember to what seller.
Well, the phone was ok, till it fell down to the floor and the display broke.
I mean, the "outside" glass was ok, but the display wasn't.
I ordered a new phone screen in Aliexpress (ask for the link, I can't put any link here) and changed the screen.
The new screen works OK, but I've a problem. I can't get the touchscreen working.
I mean, I can see perfectly the main menu, but if I touch the screen, it doesn't "moves" or do anything, the touchscreen part isn't working.
I talked to the seller, and researched, and found out that might be a firmware problem. Something like that the screen was newer than the phone, or vice versa.
I downloaded and flashed almost all the firmwares/ROM's available in the Internet for THL W200s, that can be flashed by SP FlashTools (I can't use another method to flash because the touchscreen doesn't work), but no one worked completely.
I mean, with all the firmwares/ROM's I flash, I get the same result. Display works OK, but no touchscreen.
Except with this one : Needrom- W200S 4.4.2-KK-09/09/2014
With that one, I get the opposite result, I mean, my touchscreen works, but the display doesn't. The Phone turns on, but shows no image, it's all black, but I can feel the vibration when I press the screen and the touchscreen works OK.
I don't have experience flashing that things, or in basic Android, but I wanted to know if you can help me! I'm desperate!
I would have to "combine" the "part" or file that contains the touchscreen of that ROM (W200S 4.4.2-KK-09/09/2014) with another one, So I can finally get my display and touchscreen working.
Any ideas of how to do it? I tried replacing the lk.bin file of the ROM I mention, in some other ROM's that make my display works, but I don't get any good result.
Please, if this topic doesn't go in this forum, or if I've posted some link that can't be posted, I apologize!
Thanks for reading, if you don't understand something please ask!
PD: I've already asked to the seller for the suitable firmware, but the one that he provided, doesn't work.
Any never firmware should work. How you tried to install firmware? By FlashTool? Flash everything but preloader, it should work. To be on the safe side try latest JellyBean (4.2.2) from needrom. This could be some new screen revision but who knows. Please post your results.

First, thanks for reading!
Yes, I've tried via SP FlashTools v5.1352.01, because I think I can't flash ROM's with CWM or TWRP because I can't get my touchscreen working, so I can't install them on my phone. If I'm not right, please correct me.
As I said, I tried almost every rom that is available in NeedRom for thl w200s that can be flashed using SP FlashTools. But I can't get any good result, touchscreen doesn't work. I'm sure it's only a firmware problem, because flashing the ROM that I describe in the topic, touchscreen works but display doesn't. And flashing any other ROM display works but touchscreen doesn't.
Could you recommend a ROM to try? I don't know what else to do. I'm afraid my phone is lost
What I did to flash all the ROM's I download, using SP Flash Tools, is to select the Android scatter, then in the sliding panel clicked in "Firmware Upgrade", click in Download, connect the phone without the battery, and wait the ROM to be flashed.
I don't know what is wrong !
I had the same problem when I changed my screen.managed to use my back up I made with mtk droid tools.before I changed my screen,I was on the 4.4.2 ROM which I could now no longer use(black screen), but for some reason I could now install the ROMs from need ROM (which I couldn't use before)and the backups on my phone would freeze when I used them.only the stock ROM I had and the ultimate ROM from need ROM would work.but now the mic no longer works(tested with the google apk, phone calls and sound recorder) and the vibrate does not work and the proximity sensor does not work(tested it by using the dialer but the screen stays dark so can't end the call.so I got a dialer apk from play and that works but in the end I used a xposed module to stop the proximity sensor. really had enough of this phone.
