Alright, first of all, yes, I'm a noob here, however I am not a noob to forums. I did search for similar problems but to no avail. Moving on..
I just recently put CM 7.2 on my dad's Droid X2, I had it working flawlessly and everything was fine. Created a nandroid backup and all was good.
Today he wanted to restore his phone back to that original nandroid in order to get his recipes and notes from some app that didn't transfer over (I was unaware, or i would have saved them) when he did so he restored it and everything was going fine until the phone locked up with "dynamic config335.data" on his screen. Apparently, it locks at this and needs a battery pull to fix, and the restore never occurred.
We ended up doing this a second time and the same process occurred again. As I never had to deal with this with my DX2, i'm not quite sure what to do.
Any help would be great!
Thanks
You could try to sbf and then restore the nandroid.
DD you do not ID the restoration agent is it TB? Or what?
Ok so the error occurred after the suspected nandroid?
Here is where I get confused
"(I was unaware, or i would have saved them) when he did so he restored it and everything was going fine until the phone locked up with "
Restored it w/ cwr?

You'll have to slow it down with the acronyms until I know them all haha
After I rooted his phone, and before I flashed CM7, I created a Nandroid. After he's been tinkering with it for the last few days he realized he wanted some files that did not get transferred over.
He decided to restore to that nandroid and while it was restoring it got stuck with that appearing on his screen. It never finished the restore.
Luckily I had him make another nandroid before messing with it so I was able to get CM7 back unharmed however he still wants these files...
Do you guys recognize this error? It just happens mid restore
Never seen the error. You could just have a random error. Maggard.
...may have the best advice.
If you have Titanium Backup you could try using it to restore just the data that he needs. TB has the ability to restore files and data from nandroids. You may have to have the paid version though, I'm don't remember for sure.
Alrighty, i'll try and mess with it. Thanks guys!

On my A101 with the 2.1.08 firmware, the main reason I bothered to root with Archangel was to use Titanium Backup. This program works flawlessly on my (rooted) Evo 4G. On my tablet, after running Archangel, TB looks like it's running, and backing everything up - no errors.
I had to RMA my tablet because of the USB/Sleep problem, and I thought I was good to go because I had a backup.
It turns out most/all of the backup files are empty. Restoring them either does nothing at all, or restarts the launcher.
Has anybody confirmed a successful restore using TB on an Archangel-rooted Gen8 device?
Just thought I'd put this out there for anybody assuming their TB backups are good. I'm about to try MyBackup.
Yes, I restored a backup to a freshly formatted unit, no problem. I'm sure with all the testing people here do, backups are tested quite regularly.

Yes thats correct. The first thing to do when installing titanium backup is selecting the "Problems" button to install a good busybox.
It works perfectly after that even with archangel root.
Ok - maybe I forgot to update BusyBox this time. I'll give it another chance.
- thx.
TB worked flawlessly with my rooting method after updating the busybox.
So I would like to get the Ubuntu hack working on my atrix but I already rooted, installed 1.57, and installed GladAtrix.
I'm wondering what the best method is to get back to 1.26 and then getting back my data after I do the Ubuntu hack?
I made back-ups with Titanium and CWM, but if I would restore my data, wouldn't that overwrite the Ubuntu hack?
Which program is better for a full system back-up/restore? CWM or Titanium?
I use TiBU and restore ONLY the apps NOT ANY DATA. Restoring system data or app data will likely get you lots of force closes. Its happened to me more than once on the Captivate and I'm not making that mistake again. I restore only the user apps w/ no data. So I'm stuck configuring my settings after every restore but Id rather do that than mess up the phone and be stuck and step one again.
Ok, so if I go back to 1.26 then I can use TiBU to re-install all my programs?
What I would like is something that essentially makes a "ghost" image of my phone so I can return to my exact settings, is that where CWM comes in?
I've recently lost the ability to enter webtop while trying to install Ubuntu. I'm thinking of just going back to 1.26 and starting over since I messed around with some other stuff and dont want to brick my phone later.

CWM will attempt to restore your phone to the exact state it was in when you made the backup, so cwm restore would revert any hack or any changes you have made since the backup.
Yes you can use TiBU to restore your user apps going from any upgrade/mod, even across ROMs. But like i said USER APPS w/o DATA ONLY. Do not restore data or system apps.
Hi, well i had a crash course in flashing etc last night after messing around with a LCD Density app. I was running stock 2.2 and after messing around my streak would not get past the dell logo (before animation)!
Managed install Clockworkmod and Dj_steves 1.9.0!
Luckily i was using Titanium Backup Pro when i had stock and i am slowly getting back to how i liked before i buggered it up!
Just got a few questions...
1. Whatsapp restore messages!
I restored the app and it said it was restoring messages but it doesn't. Then i thought i would delete the app and install a fresh copy from the Market, i let it install and it said it was restoring but again nothing! Using Root Explorer i can find the large restore files on my SD Card but have no way to bloody restore them. It's driving me crazy! Does anyone have any ideas???
2. Am i using the best ROM? like I i have always had stock rooted so have not kept up with the scene!
Hope someone can help, i'm just not very experienced with flashing, restoring etc. I'm a IT Tech though so not stupid, will give anything a go just need my Whatsapp Messages back!
Thanks!
Cant help you with Whatsapp but I can recommend ditching the Titanium backup and Clockwork MOd.
Once you get it up again, flash StreakMod recovery and use MyBackUp Pro.
Clockwork and Titanium don't play nice with the Streak. And in my opinion yes, you are using the best ROM, IMHO
I'm actually having the exact same issue with a Galaxy S II - has whatsapp ever solved this for you? I contacted them - but have yet to receive a reply.
Really annoying...
Hope my thread help you, although your problem occurred 4months ago...

so guys, I had tried out eclipse for the first time. It was damn impressive, but there was a few things that I was missing, and I had a problem with my corporate sync, which was a dealbreaker for today. I thought I would just quick BSR nandroid back to my stock setup for today.
Well, the restore didn't take. There was a barrage of FC's, and after I was finally able to wade through them, it was clear there was an issue. I still have the superuser app, but BSR is not working. It shows installed in the app drawer, but when I try to install again from the app it says it doesn't have permission. When I plug in the phone it turns on and goes to the moto logo and just stays there. Maybe 1/2 my apps restored. I noticed all my old texts were back.
This was my first attempted use of restore, I'm thinking perhaps I was supposed to wipe before hand? I'm curious if there's any way to save this, or if I have to do the SBF dance, and then can I try the restore again once I'm back up to 2.3.5?
And yes, the backup was a 2.3.5 backup
You can't restore a 2.3.4 backup if you're currently running on 2.3.5. I tried this too a while back and realized that is what messed me up. Only issue I had was that wifi would not connect no matter what. It just said error. You will need to SBF to go back to 2.3.4 if you try to restore a ROM based on 2.3.4 framework (CM7, stock, liberty, molten, etc). You can NAND restore between all of those ^ without issue as I do it DAILY.
So to successfully restore a NANDROID backup of a 2.3.4 ROM you must already be on 2.3.4 or a ROM based off of it.
I don't really ever use Eclipse anymore, but when I flash something else I always SBF first just to be sure I'm not going to have any problems later.
Edit: Just noticed you said it was a 2.3.5 backup, sorry. You didn't rename the backup did you? If you did, did you add spaces to the file name? This will break your backup.

Nope, no file name changes. My current theory is something about the SD flip must have gone haywire. I somehow seemed to have lost root.
And yes, everything here was 2.3.5 418 based
err, nevermind this post
did the sbf dance last night, tried the BSR restore again, same results!
so I SBF'd again and got back to 2.3.5 rooted stock and am sitting here for now
I know somebody out there knows more about this than I do
oh, and the damn yahoo account sync isn't working, had to install email only as imap
and how can there be data left on the phone after a datawipe? I have backups from app configs available from months ago.

Who knows, maybe the SD flip did have something to do with it. I've never personally used/looked into it. Could your SD card be dying? Try charging your phone and making a new NANDROID backup and see if you're able to restore that one. Could just be an issue with that backup file.
& SBF wipes internal phone storage so if you had app data backed up on SD, it'll still be there. It doesn't touch external SD data. That's why I keep everything on my external SD card. .
I've sbf'ed and data wiped plenty of times with my removable SD card inserted.
Cyanogenmod all day

Thanks for the reply Roy. I deleted stuff from my SD manually, so there was nothing left there. Just plugging into mass storage mode and exploring the interal storage I can see the old data still there in the data folder. I don't know how it survived 2 data wipes? At this point I need to take a night off. Next I may try my eclipse backup and see if that works.
Another thought was that the SD was fairly full, but I didn't see any messages about running out of space. Any idea how big a BSR backup should be?
And since this is my first attempt at BSR restore, it IS supposed to restore everything, right?

Just make sure you're already on 2.3.5 before you try to restore your Eclipse backup.
My backup size;
CM7

cache.img / 21,120
data.img / 636,345,600
nandroid.md5 / 132
system.img / 153,757,824
That's my CM7 backup, but then again I do have a lot of apps and other miscellaneous data backed up as well. Here's a 2.3.4 Rooted backup. Completely stock;
2.3.4 Rooted
569,897,600 total

Yes it WILL restore everything you had backed up. SMS inbox messages, call logs with dates and times, system settings, laucher and desktop setting, etc.
I usually backup pretty often. After I switch up my homescreen settings, launcher effects and transitions, updating applications, etc. ALWAYS before trying to flash a new ROM or hacking/modding.
So for example my CM7 was backed up with like 9 apps with updates available from the Play Store, so I updated them all. If I restore to say, CM9 for example, and go back to CM7 using that same backup file, I will need to re-download those 9 updates I did before I restored CM9.
If you are on CM7 and restore a CM9 backup and get a phone call/text message while on 9 - and you restore back to 7 - you will be missing that log/text because it wasn't backed up, get it?? Restores everything exactly to how it was when you booted in BSR, selected-> Backup & Restore-> External SD-> Backup.
something must have gone haywire with the data wipe. Those are approximately the size of my backups of 2.3.5 stock and eclipse 2.2.
I'm back 2.3.5 rooted stock now, started from scratch rather than restore.
I some how have ADW icons available that are not yet even installed since wipe...
Hey guys,
yesterday i flashed a new rom. everything worked as usual and i started installing my backups etc.
after a while i noticed that i didnt have any signal apart from my wifi. after some investigation i saw that my IMEI was gone.
I had heard of this before so i went to a journey to google to try and solve my problem.
The thing is i didnt perform a backup of my efs folder manually or using tools like HC-ktool.
BUT on my external sdcard are files called
efsdev-mmcblk0p1,img
efs_03Mar2013-2255.tar.gz
which i assume are backups which where made by custom kernels.
Now my problem is that i dont know how to restore these backups, as every tool i tried didnt identify the files mentioned above.
How can i restore those files manually? Or which tool do i need to use?
If all that doesnt work, is my phone bricked now or is there any other option?
Thanks in advance
Jens
Maybe the recovery that came with the kernel has an option to restore efs partition.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
Yep. Probably Siyah/similar doing an auto backup. Lucky for you; hopefully this is a lesson learned - backup your EFS immediately after rooting/flashing a custom rom & keep a copy somewhere safe away from the phone as well . Try restoring with kTool (I prefer over EFS Pro for its simplicity) from Google Play; there's a thread devoted to it on here that's a great resource if you have problems (search).
Edit - kTool should be able to restore from either the img or the tar.gz, might want to read the kTool thread to workout what caused the restore not to work if you did try to restore with it/it didn't work (you were a bit vague about what you did/didn't do & the actual problems you had with the restore).
Extra edit - Also, the IMEI disappearing can be a temporary thing; some people have got it back simply by going back to stock.
So there's a couple of things to keep you busy for a while.
Restoring the backup via ktools for example didnt work for some reason i dont understand.
I tried flashing a stock rom though and suddenly the IMEI was back.
I dont understand it, but the thing is it works not =)
Thanks for your help.
First thing i am doing now is creating efs backups and save them _everywhere_
Really happy that i dodged that bullet.
Thank you thank you thank you =))
Yeah that's weird you couldn't restore with kTool. Oh well, the important thing is going back to stock worked & you have your IMEI back. I'd also love to know exactly what causes IMEI's to sometimes go away seemingly randomly like that when people flash custom roms. I guess we'll never know.
You're welcome
