Can someone point be in the right direction on how to get swype for the hd2 running android?
yes i would like to know too im not used to typing im used to swyping
http://www.mediafire.com/?my2apyivhuua7qy
there you go. I reuploaded it for you guys. Someone posted it earlier but I seem to have forgotten where
i believe shapewriter is still on market....use it... wonderful app for swype
looks like shapewriter was pulled from the market. The last available version was 3.0.9. It is available in the wild and the company that apparently owns the code isn't providing an alternative. In my opinion they are using the code in their paid non android keyboard apps.
Seems like swype is the next "display rotation" controversy. Companies are desperate to hold onto something to corner the market IMO. The swype beta also expired. I haven't found any available swype apps anywhere. I think there is one in the market but it's expensive. Preying on desperation. Guess we all have to pony up or buy a new phone.
Sorry to be negative, maybe it'll get better but be careful of copywrites guys. The software development world is looking for the next cornerstone after the hardware world has trickled us up to a point we don't need to buy a new phone every 3 months. They don't make cars like they used to do they?
**Edit** SlideIT is the app. Not sure of the price atm as I'm back in WinMo for a moment to upload these apks and I'll let you know which one is decent. But again, whichever it is, it may not last forever as the only one that was legally free with a lifetime ownership was shapewriter 3.0.9 but it may lose kernel support at anytime. Maybe android or some dev will create an alternative. I'm sure patents are all out there on this by now. Stupid but whatever.
I've tried numerous swype.apks for the past week or so and none is as responsive as the original. maybe its because android is still ran through the SD that swype (also ran from SD) is conflicting? but this is my opinion...
i've tried the swype apk from the EVO and DESIRE. desire link is dead but the EVO link is floating around somewhere still.. BUT, responsiveness is no where to be found. its slow.
I'm using the red themed version from this Droid Incredible thread and with the 7/23 zImage there is next to no lag. It works just about as well as it does in WinMo.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=701198
Tested both the above Swype and found Shapewriter 3.0.9. Both gave me Force Close errors and I had to switch to stock. Going to try the Droid keyboard now
**Edit (again)** Sorry, bad information. I was trying to use the apps by just dropping them in the AndroidApps folder. I uninstalled them and reinstalled using Astro and it looks like they all may be working. I'll have to do some testing to see what works the best. I apologize
Thanks for all the suggestions on this and posting a link to the Shapewriter 3.0.9 file looks like it may be a grey area in regards to copy-writes as I think you had to get it from the market while it was still hot which looks like it was brought down early June. O well.
This is probably a retarded question but how do you install the file once you've downloaded it to your SD card? Or do I need to download it from within Android to run it?
Nevermind, figured it out. Thanks anyway.
You can use Astro or Dropbox and just click the .apk file to open it. If the file you find is .apk.zip just remove the .zip. You may have enable Windows to show file extensions to do that.
Astro is in the Android Market
Dropbox is an app for your PC and an app for the phone so you can transfer files without rebooting into Windows everytime.

Yeah I noticed the mention of Astro and went and got it and figured it out. Thanks anyway for the information without even meaning to give it lol.
Anytime, I'm just killing time waiting to see if GPS is going to be compiled tonight. I should probably just get some sleep. So looks like the post xanderdad referenced is what I will stick with. It's the only thing out there that's available that's free and updated. It's working fine so far so unless there's something better, I'll stop bumping this thread constantly.
Thanks for bringing this topic up dbiggs and everyone that replied. Hope I was of any help. This app is a must without a physical keyboard IMO.
Any reviews or anyone try the driod red one? My Swype is almost unusable it's so slow to respond. But i don't think it's a swype option. Cause when i set the pattern unlock code on mine, i have to draw really slowly cause it lags behind as well. Unless i just had an old one

I am using the Green HTC one so looks like these 2 are decent options. The others worked fine too but I think I'm sticking to this one.
After the .apk is installed go to Menu > Settings > Language and Keyboard and Check the keyboard you want to have available. Then find an empty text box and long press till you see Input Method and then just select the keyboard you want.
Additionally, there are some settings within the Language and Keyboard you can tweak around to make it a little faster but it's pretty good stock. It takes a bit to load the first time and like anything, if you have a lot of apps running in the background, live wallpaper, old Android image and widgets while running on a Class 2 SD card it will probably be slow. Change as much of that as you can and it should get faster with newer Android builds and if\when NAND is in place to run off internal storage.
I've used swype for almost the entire time I was in windows and cannot even compare the speed to swype on this android. Swype on android right now is slow. This is using the EVO swype, and DROID swype (above post). Droid swype is much faster than the EVo, but still, will not compare to the swype from windows. I cannot even speed swype lol...
I'll wait patiently for faster builds in the future. For now, its back to the stock froyo keys.
And yes.. I've done almost ALL that is possible to speed my hd2oid up. Swype is still slow.
Ok, i got the droid keyboard with the 7/23 zimage, and holy smokes this is a godsend... it's basically identical to the winmo version. So glad it worked out good.
Not getting swype keyboard on darkstone's froyo .. I have zimage of 23rd as well
I Have enabled swype from the keyboard settings.

does a how to find anybody know where I could find a french version of swype for froyo???
NEW version 1.60.36.8214
Hello,
i found this 2 apk for swype from evo4g xda forum
So i ask for your help on how to add the italian language to the modded version and how to install it since it's a zip file and the recovery tips didnt worked for me since when hd2 reboot, it obviously reboot into windows.
Can please someone post the "mic version" with italian language or all languages?
Thank you in advance
why dont yall just sign up for the beta, it takes like a day or two foor you to get an invite back, and you always get the most up to date version.
at least, thats what im doing.
Also, swype is working for me as fast as ever. i never have any lag in the trace line or the responsiveness. its probably because you guys are using old versions of swype.
You need to sign up for the beta and you will be able to get the most current version of swype.
I was going to upload the current version of swype that i have, but i could not find it in the tree anywhere. normally all applications install to /system/app but this was not the case for swype.
if anyone can find out where swype installs itself, please let me know and i will be more than happy to throw the current versios of swype up for download.
Hey everyone, thought I'd post up a couple problems I've had since I got the tablet. Totally new to the whole android thing so bear with me if I am clueless.
I've read through every posting and haven't seen anyone describing the symptoms I'm experiencing. I'll describe symptoms, then steps that I've taken in hopes of answering all questions ahead of time.
First off, I saw the various wallpapers that were posted and followed the directions to use Wallpaper Wizardrii in order to make them work correctly. Initially the pictures take well and work however, after some time the image cuts off on the right 1/3ish of the screen. I also set the image to "exact" to see what would happen and after a bit of time the complete image moved all the way to the left of the screen - obviously in this case nothing got cutoff but it still moved.
*I've not been able to replicate this by doing anything in particular.
*I uninstalled and reinstalled Wallpaper Wizardrii thinking maybe something got f'd with the install. This had no effect.
*I've messed with locking the tablet in both horizontal and vertical orientation and this has had no effect either.
*If the wallpaper is at the point where it is "cut," (for lack of a better word) then switching to any other wallpapers (including the ones that came with the tablet) are also cut.
*If I open wallpaper wizardrii again and reset the image, the cut goes away and everything is back to normal.
*I've currently reset everything to an image that came with the tablet and uninstalled wizardrii. I'm not sure if that will resolve the issue but as yet it hasn't gotten screwed up. My friend who showed me his tablet and ultimately was responsible for my buying one has not had any of these problems using the same settings. Wizardrii settings were 100% compression and full screen image.
The other MAJOR problem that I just discovered relates to using Adobe Acrobat as a PDF reader. My primary reason for getting this tablet is for work. I plan on creating electronic records of all the journal articles I recieve. I've run out of physical real estate to keep these articles at home and I don't know where else to put them. The same for books. I was able to transfer some files to the tablet just today using windows explorer (couldn't get Kies to work) and several PDF's work fine and look great, but this particular one locked up the system and somehow restarted it. Can someone try it on their tablet and see if you have problems? Actually the file is too large to upload to the forum for me to post although it's less than 900k. Would anyone be willing to let me email it to them? It is called the Discordant Eardrum and is written by Fay and Puria through Stanford's depart of Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery and Mechanical Engineering.
My tablet has been rooted - don't even know what that means in reality. My friend did it for me to get rid of advertisements. That is the only thing that has been done.
I appreciate any help in resolving these issues.
-D
Hi
I had exactly the same problem with the wallpapers. To fix this I've removed the Wizardrii and found the wallpaper i wanted in a higher resolution.
For PDF viewing try using ezPDF Reader - the best software ever -) i'm using it to view big PDF files like 1000-1500 pages. Size wise i was able to view 100-120MB files with no problems.
Use Aldiko premium book reader to view DRM PDF files. works really good.
cheers.
Im experiencing the same wallpaper problem with my tablet, and not sure how to fix it. I'm running stock 3.1 and sometimes the homescreen gets so laggy I have to restart it, and some of that lagging is because of honeycomb horrible wallpaper options.
I'm surprised to see I am the only person I have seen with this issue; either that or I'm looking in the wrong places. About a week or so ago, my android market was updated to the newest version, ever since then it has been a nightmare. apps that I have been using for over a year now say there not compatible, when I know for a fact they are. I recently flashed the latest CM7 nightly and when I brought the market back up, some of my apps said they were already installed when they in fact were not, however there was no way to override this so I just seemed to be sol.
The final straw was this; I wanted to install "multiling keyboard", so I went to the market and there was no download button to be found. So I went to the market on my PC and found that it listed my EVO and my modded HD2, it said the app was compatible with both handsets believe it or not. However it said the the app was already installed on my EVO, which at the time it was not. I searched for hours and found no way around this. So I tried a different Google account, thinking maybe it was linked with that account. I then searched for the app again, and believe it or not, It then told me that the app was not compatible, log back into the other account, and the app is listed as compatible but also listed as already installed with no way to override.
So now I find the only way to install certain apps is to uninstall the market updates so it goes back to the old market, then I can download whatever I want no questions asked. However its only temporary because within 15min it will automatically update itself again.
Get titanium, freeze market updater. Had the same issue
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Ok I froze the market updater, and then downgraded the market app from 3.0.27 to 2.3.6. It seems to be working, I'll post back if I have any issues.
However even though this is a fine workaround for now, does anyone know of a way to just fix the issue? obviously we all cant just stay at an older version of the market forever.
Google has been rubbing me the wrong way for about a year now, but this has really got my blood boiling. I don't need someone telling me what they think is already on my phone what whats not. I also don't need someone telling me whats compatible and whats not. I can fully understand licensing restrictions, don't like 'em, but i get it. but as for these new checks they implemented, there needs to be a bypass feature. Either have a "I am not an idiot" setting in your account, or just a button that says "I understand the risk, Install anyway". But this is ridiculous, something has to be done. I have already sent Google a letter, doubt anyone will read it, but i sent it.
I would also love for a solution to this... not a reversion...
Anybody out there have any clue where to start? I have been searching high and low and cant find much of anything.
ITS THE LCD DENSITIES! lol. Do you change your lcd density to? Because when I change mine back the market works fine
I never thought of that, but yes I do change my LCD density, I have it set to 200 instead of 240. That explains the incompatible issue. I'm still sol though, I'm not going to change my build.prop every time I want to use the market. Also I'm still having issues with it saying that apps are already installed on my phone when they are not.
Thankfully ugothakd's suggestion is working great for now. I hope we can get this figured out. If not its just going to end up being one of those things we will have to wait forever for Google to fix.
android market compatability issues
Thank you ugothakd! I change my density from 200 to 240. Now I have access to google maps and youtube. Really sucks though I like my density set to 200. I am surprised that people are not having more problems with this dumb market.
I don't mean to bring this back from the dead. But has there been any word on this issue? I'm still stuck at an old version of the market. I've tried updating and every time I still have the same issues. Its all over my screen density, if I change it from 200 to 240 the market works fine.
I have the same issue my self i have a htc desire and now with new market to apps that are missing
if i click on link in google to point to market for app all i get is this app ain't compatible with your device when i know for fact that it do
im starting to get pissed off with it as i used the new market before it was released over here in uk and now after i update my cm rom this is all i get or the app don't show in first place
google really need to add an option to disable this feature ie under options for people who know the risks of trying to run apps that may not be intended for the device as i personally have found nearly all apps work on my phone rarely come across any that don't even all the old apps tend to work if anything this new feature is a pain in the rear so so annoyed at this
P.s screen density has nothing to do with it with me i found new market added a new device to my list yet it's the same phone i leave my screen at 240 its default hope this gets sorted soon
Sorry to bring up an old thread but has anyone resolved the issue. I love my LCD density at 180 and setting it back to 240 just to install an application really irks me.
I bought the Sims 3 a long time ago for my daughter to play on my phone and I thought I'd load it up on the Touchpad for her, but it doesn't show up in a search in Android market, and doesn't show up in my app list as purchased. If I go to the market on my PC though, it's there and showing purchased. I try to send it to my TP as a HP GT-i9100 and it never sends it. My build.prop has been edited to a GT-i9100.
Thoughts on this issue?
There are threads on this topic already. The gist of it is you're going to need to sideload a backup from your phone. Changing your build.prop to a Nexus S will allow you to download it from the market, but once you launch it you'll still need to download the sum of the game from EA's servers, which won't be fooled.
You need to install the game on your phone, back up the apk and the downloaded data from the android system folder on the SD card, and then transfer them to your touchpad.

From what I understand, EA has not updated the game for ICS and I am personally not convinced it can be made to work until (if!) they update it.
I had my build.prop set to a T989 Samsung Galaxy S II and under this setting it did show up in CM7 but it is not showing up with the same build.prop settings in CM9 which is making me think the issue is not the device setting but the actual version of the OS. Comments in the reviews seem to confirm it does not work with ICS and EA has not gotten off their ass to update the game since September, which is BEFORE ICS was even released.
I suppose it might be possible to obtain the apk from some, ahem, unofficial source (and before anyone gets their panties in a bunch I paid for the app a while back it just won't show in the market anymore) and sideload it.
Even if you do that and manage to get it to load and then load the data from another device there is still the issue that the game is made for 16:9 aspect ratio and will not work properly on 4:3. The only way I know of to fix that is to get hacked files that force a 16:9 ratio (with a portion of the bottom of your screen unusable) and I don't believe there is an ICS version of those files, just Gingerbread.
TL;DR - I'm not convinced it can be made to work under ICS and to even attempt it is a huge pain in the ass.

It works fine on ICS. I have it running on alpha .6. The problem is the unsupported touchpad resolution of the TP messes up all the onscreen touch buttons. Maybe EA will update it in the future.

I wouldn't hold my breath. I don't think Android is much of a priority for EA right now.
I did a full wipe when updating to CM9 and reinstalled everything but haven't been able to reinstall Sims due to it as far as I can tell being blocked for ICS. Have you had luck getting it to show up in the market with a particular build.prop under CM9 or did you already have it installed from CM7?
I'm afraid the whole aspect ratio issue makes it not really playable though. I was using the hack posted here that forces 16:9 and it did work fine under that but those files were meant for CM7 and I have my doubts that they will work for CM9.
Anyway, it requires manually copying files, changing permissions and rebooting back and forth which is a pain in the butt. :-/
Hey xda. Okay so I'm here yet again asking for help, both in general and directly from Finlessbob or Dochoppy. So I have finally determined what I want in my new ROM "SOSA-Tab 1.0 Apricot" (or for Phones, SOSA 1.0 Apricot). Here are some of the features:
For the Nextbook Premium 7 and Velocity Micro Cruz T408:
1. Beats Audio 2. Increased GraphicsQuality 3. Speed Tweaks 4. Settings Tweaks Integration (Hoping to integrate bottom status bar BEFORE release, If anyone can help me with that it would be much appreciated) 5. (NP7 only) Cover Flow Music Player
And the list goes on and on. I am not going to tell about the phone because that is not my mission at the moment. Right now I need some help building the ROM for the Velocity. I have rooted it, but I cannot integrate the root into a custom rom, or anything else for that matter. The tablet comes stock with a recovery image that allows you to flash thefirmwaredownloaded offof the velocity cruz website in it. Here is my problem. I took out and added some stuff (namely superuser, an ereader app, etc.) and flashed in the recovery. My tablet is then sent into a bootloop and it wont work until I wipe the device via recovery and non of the stuff I added is integrated. The link provided to the site directly links you to the place where you download the firmware, for those that want to take a crack at looking at the rom, have fun. Its not in some funny file format like a cramfs or ext3 system image, its just in a ".tgz" (fancy zip file,use7zip)and insidethatisa ".tar" file(again justanotherfancyform of a zip file, use 7zip also).
For the sake of time I am not going to go too deep into the directories of the system folders, as anyone who has taken a crack at deving for android knows whats insideof them. Hopethatdoesn't look like a bunch of mumbo-jumbo, and likeI said if you want to take a crack at it, just download the firmware from the website linked above. I also want to know (from anyone with experience in this like dochoppy or finlessbob) can I convert something to expand the apps space like you all did for the Nextbook Premium 7, because 523mb of space is cool and all, but (hating to sound oh so greedy) I want MORE lol, so if there is a possibility for that I would love some assistance. And one last thing, how do I change the splash image for it, there is no ".rle" file like there was for the nextbook, so help would be appreciated for that also.
Thanks, Ognimnella
P.S. - if anyone knows how to build a custom cwm recovery for tablets like thiss that would be helpful also. Im working on custom roms but it wont let me flash.!

I have a Cruz T410, and I hear they are releasing a new line with the exact same hardware but ICS. I'm pretty good at this modding stuff, but a novice in ROM or kernel cooking, so I will be little to no help most likely. I figure that if we can extract the ROM from the new one and modify it to update our T4XXs.
I have a friend who works retail that should have one I can play with soon, so if you know how I might extract it and get it to you to mod lemme know.
As for what I've done successfully to my Cruz is:
Full Root via Gingerbreak
LCD Density to 140
Removed Status Bar (Root Explorer to remove from system folder after titanium back up)
Remapped buttons, Vol up = Menu, Vol down = Back, Power = End
I used blade buddy to change end behavior to home then screen off so holding it down still brings the shutdown menu up as normal. Made a "Sound" shortcut on homepage.
ADW EX with ICS theme
Android PRO widgets with Lucid theme.
Latest Modded Google Play
(Was tricky but got it!)
Wave Launcher
(Awesome WebOS like gesture bar of shortcuts, with sound and screen off shortcut.)
SwiftKey Keyboard
(Best for tablets!)
Every Emulator Running Smooth
System Tuner
(Adjust SD Cache to 3 or 6MB, it gives a big performance boost. Also change the auto kill to aggressive, and clean cache)
All GAPPS (Lots of trial and error to get newest possible versions of everything)
Dolphin HD ofcourse
Fully functional remote desktop (Awesome without the ugly taskbar!)
Removed Bloatware
Once again, I'm noobish, but I make much better tablets jealous.
I got the tablet as a gift and really wish it was more popular because of its potential. I'm poor so this is going to be my tab until it dies.
I don't post much and I feel kind of silly, but it feels like there isn't much good information out there for how to make it cool. I'll explain how I did everything in detail for those who ask. And would love suggestions.
Also!
I have an adapter for USB in, is it possible to add a host controller for keyboards or gamepads?
Thanks in advance..
Well damn ur a hell of a let further than I am, I rooted it, and installed hcl launcher to give me a honeycomb feel. I modified the build prop to view me as a nexus s tablet and installed the play store too, took a lot of combination experiments but I have a zip with the needed files to install. I think rather than REMOVE the status bar, I just wanna move it to the bottom of the screen. I have Nova 3 and modern combat 2 black Pegasus installed, but the calibration is misaligned due to the persist ant and horribly placed status bar. If I could find the place in the code where I can move the status bar to the bottom of the screen rather than the top, this alone would make the thing a keeper.
Oh and Google host controller for android and report back whether or not we have USB hosting, if we do, I smell a game pad purchase in the future

Right on, we are on the same page with the taskbar. I have tried installing the default gingerbnread statusbar to make it where it can hide at least, but it still showed up as the crummy stock bar even after removing the SystemUI.APK from System folder. Another option:
Copy systemUI.APK to your SD. Remove it from system folder, uninstall, re install.
This makes it show up in services so you can disable it when you want to play games or watch videos.
I think you can do this with Titanium by converting it to a user app aswell.
I too have a back up of all the latest GAPPS and my modded bulid.prop if anyone needs em.
I'll keep working on it, glad I'm no longer alone, lol.
