CM9 or Official OTA? - HTC Amaze 4G

A small place to post your opinions to keep a conversation here lol. Well, which do you think will be delivered first? Which will you take? I prefer CM9, but most probably the ota will come first though
Sent from my HTC Amaze 4G using Xparent Green Tapatalk

ay, CM9 has more root capabilities and customizability, plus ive always been a fan of CM, so im in for CM9

Well the OTA or a Amaze 4.0 leak will help with the progress with CM9.

CM9 FTW for sure!

I think OTA will arrive first, but I'm looking more forward to CM9!

CM9 for me. Although I can't wait for ICS, I can wait for a stable CM9 build. Unless another developers releases a nice ICS Sense build till CM9 becomes a daily driver.

CM9 will probably never become stable and I have not even bothered to root the phone since all I needed it for was tethering. Luckily the phone can be be tethered without the need for root.

I believe we will see an OTA update before we see CM9 for the Amaze. I've been a fan of CM for a while, and hope I'm wrong. Just my 2cents.

Same here. Early next year, my wife's contract is up with Verizon and she'll be switching to Sprint. She's volunteered to take my Evo 3D and I plan on snagging either a Galaxy Nexus or whatever the new hotness is at the time. I've always wanted one of the Nexus variants so that's probably what I'll end up with.

We’ve been hard at work on CM9 since Google released Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) into the wild last month, and things are slowly starting to come together. Google did a great job with ICS and added some really awesome features which in some cases replace or deprecate functionality that we had in CM7, so we are reevaluating all of our customizations. A number of devices are already up and running with CM9, and the focus is currently on getting as many devices ready as we can. The first devices (besides the Nexus S, which you can already get from Koush’s section on ROM Manager) that we’ll have ready will mostly likely be devices based on OMAP4, MSM8660/7X30, and Exynos. We also have some Tegra2 tablets in the pipeline such as the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and Asus Transformer. Our goal is to provide continued support to all CM7 devices back to the QSD8250 series of devices such as the Nexus One. I don’t want to make any promises at this time, but that is the plan. And sorry Droid1 owners, we’re dropping support for you. Time to upgrade
There are a number of challenges that we are up against. Google has made some pretty major changes to the Android framework that break compatibility with older proprietary camera and graphics drivers in order to achieve some pretty insane performance, but I am confident that the team will be able to overcome these issues like we have in the past.
For those of you who like to build CM from source yourself, you probably know that the spin-up time when starting a CM7 build is absurdly long due to the high number of devices in our repository. Koush and Arcee have put together a solution to this problem that adds new devices on-demand to your local repository, saving on both bandwidth and the long startup time. Some other great enhancements are coming too, like a completely overhauled music app, a new file manager, and a new launcher based on stock 4.0.
If you have a Nexus S, you can check out the code and build for yourself today. More devices are on the way, and I’ll send out these status updates as we make more progress.

CM9

I'm so excited for CM9 that I actually just spent a half hour typing different combinations of 9.0.0-RC0 shooter kang into Google hoping to find some sort of alpha zip or something to no avail. Lol.

I have been running one of the Evervolv pre-Alphas for about a week now - All 3 of the ICS builds in the CDMA dev section are usable, you just have to figure out which features you can and can't live without. I love preludedrew's Alpha4, the HW accel makes it so snappy. Honestly I don't miss CM too much (but I will definitely try them out whenever there is a release). Try out one of the other releases - having ICS is sooooo worth it!

I agree although this phone is tough for a few different reasons.
1. There are two completely seperate versions GSM vs. CDMA and thats fragmenting the devs.
2. 3D is tough and a first for many
3. GSM kernerl source was f'ed for a long time so that threw development time in the trash
4. The upcoming ICS release has somewhat slowed development because some are just waiting to see what happens with an update. I wouldnt want weeks or months of my hardwork go to waste overnight because of an update to a whole new build by HTC.
With that said i think once ICS does drop it could provide many answers about some of the "under the hood" workings of this device, and development will pick up. As someone said this phone is a real beast under the cover.
None of this is to say that the devs currently working arent doing a great job. some of the stuff i have seen is great and there is a lot being done to get AOSP roms going on this phone. I have seen Development pick up greatly over the last few months. So i look forward to whats in store.

Never getting cm7 because of ICS is just speculation on your part. Regardless, we never got it.
We aren't even officially supported by CM, nobody knows what exactly is going to happen. That's why people should get comfortable with other roms...I can only imagine what this place is gonna look like once cm9 nightlies drop and our phone isn't on the list.
I have no doubt that CM will eventually make it's way to the evo 3d (I do have doubts about the 3d part ever working tho) it's just gonna take a little time. It will be worth it once everything gets rolling.

The Evo 4G will never and was never planned to receive ICS, and yet there are completely functioning ICS builds available for it, with working camera on top of everything else besides the obvious 4G (and maybe a few other things, I haven't followed OG Evo development since I upgraded to this phone).
Official releases aren't a huge deal unless we need them to fix something. The problem with ICS on our phones have to do with the difference between it and GB, as well as our camera. I do not foresee JB to be a big difference from ICS, kind of like Froyo to GB.
So in the end an official release won't matter as long as JB isn't a huge difference over ICS, and we can use the official ICS release in order to make sure the camera works.
You're going to be able to run JB on this phone, do not worry.

I know the phones hardware is more than capable of handling JB. And I'd agree with everything you said, but our phone has some unique needs that others don't. Like you mentioned, the 3d/camera is one of them and also Wimax. ICS has been around for quite a while and there isn't a single ICS build for our phone that is a nice stable daily driver. Getting some of our phone's features to work without the help of HTC may be a bit tough. The development scene of the Evo 3D isn't huge either, though thankfully we have many great devs.
I came to the Evo 3d from the HTC HD2, now that's a phone that seems to be able to run just about anything. Ridiculously massive development scene. It had ICS running long before many other phones and it isn't even an android phone.

I can agree with that, mostly. What I'm trying to say is that, after a release from HTC, we hopefully won't have to worry too much about JB in the future.
Plus as long as jellybean drops within eighteen months technically we are supposed to get it .

But here is the Nightly thread:

Note that it has been closed more or less due to abuse (excessive off-topic discussion and general whining)
The developer's repo for the builds, note the changelog in the thread is not up to date, the latest build in the repo is from May 16th at the time of this post:

RIL and ICS kernel are the primary roadblocks. Both have been worked on behind the scenes, RIL is fixed and kernel will happen eventually. CM9 will likely arrive in full form sooner or later, but currently not complete and stable.
That sucks! how is the INC way more stable than the rezound for ICS?
So.. when ICS comes out from verizon for the rezound, Cm9 stable will be possible?

Even though I don't particularly like Sense, the Sense ROMs I've tried are generally more completely functional that the Sense-less ones. I'm willing to roll with one (Nils' Business Sense) until a CM9 port comes out.
But to address the OP, the SGS3 will probably have a better CPU at the least when it comes out; don't know about radios & camera, though. It also looks like the CM9 work is already farther along. If you can wait, you can order or pre-order the GS3 and return it if the camera or radio prove to be intolerable. I probably would have waited too if my mom hadn't had an emergency need for my Inc

Work on CM9 on the GS3 is only for the international version, 3g, the US version will have LTE and will have the same issues.
Two words... Released Source....
Until we have that, it will be tough going.
Unfortunately, it appears the halcyon days of AOSP on Verizon are past. Hope I'm proves wrong by the GS3.
I'd like to help change that. Have never developed for an Android kernel before, but have done Linux work. Willing to take a shot at the pmem issues at least. Sent a PM to dmeadows to see if he's down but not expecting much. I'll just have to wait and see

Please gingerbread come back to me!

Ok, I'm sure going backwards on a device is just as hard as forward if there have never been drivers for it but it sure would be nice. CM7 would be an improvement. If you want to do something as foolish as running an ugly, old, simpler build of Android on a phone that runs ICS and beyond flawlessly in hopes of it somehow improving the experience, I suggest you do research and figure out how to do it yourself because no one will waste time on that.

For the same reason some people stuck with xp for so long. Because it just plain works.
I really don't want to go into the reasons for not liking ics or jb. The OG run so good on Gb this updated hardware would sprout wings.

I feel like if this EVO were to run GB it would be worse. Too much work, no Hardware Acceleration AT ALL (Which makes a huge difference) and plus an ugly UI. If I truly felt the need to go back to that I would just flash CM7 on my DROID INC.

No thank you

Wow I'm so glad your opinion carry so much weight. Ugly? Old? Really? EVO lte running flawlessly? Oh that'd be why it reboots playing a simple vid that was recorded from my old phone. Or why it can't keep an app in memory for 5 freaking minutes when I navigate away from it.
As for hardware acceleration. Gb didn't need it. Try running ics without it.
I didn't ask anyone to build it for me. My post plainly ask if it were possible. Maybe to spark another topic. But this bashing narrow minded xda today is exactly the reason devs leave. Just how many versions of the same damn ruu that already has problems do we need anyway. GB isn't a worse version, just different.

If you're having issues you should make sure your phone isn't defective.

HTC should've made sure their phones weren't defective. Thousands of people complaining about the same issues can't all be wrong.

I don't care about going back to gingerbread myself, but I would think that the source for CM7 would still be out there. I would recommend checking here, I've found it to be a valuable resource.
Yes of course source is still out there. Problem being if OP could compile AOSP from source he would know where to find it
Compiling GB would be buggy as hell on the LTEVO, and IMO a waste of time.

That is Sense, not ICS. You have to compare stock GB to ICS before going "GB is clearly better" HTC phones have Sense on top of it and different versions of Sense affect different things. Try out the CM10 build and (apart from the obvious early build bugs) I assure you you will be impressed. Just wait it out until it becomes a fully working stock JB ROM and it will run better than a pure GB build on our device.
As far as whether it's possible to build or not, it is possible, however I doubt many devs would be interested in making this a reality considering the vast improvements that ICS and JB have over GB.
Stock ICS != Sense 4 ICS please understand that ICS is not as bad as Sense makes it and while I don't like Sense, this new version -- other than the multitasking -- is not as intrusive as previous ones.
Also, make sure you search before making a new post :
Gingerbread?
Op just use ftl launcher might get u what your looking for
