I'd like an app or setting to automatically dim the screen (backlight 0) when the phone is idle for a few seconds before dimming the screen. I use Tasker to disable screenlock during cradle usage, and yet I can't find a way to dim the screen when idle to reduce battery usage and improve the charging speed.
Any help? I couldn't find anything with search.
You can either download a app/widget off the market to control that. Or use the built in widget power center by holding on the home screen and selecting widgets. They at the bottom pick and drag the power center to your home screen and you can control how long you want the phone to idle, brightness set to either auto, full, half. Also there is a disable wifi toggle and others.

i've had trouble locating a good app
more google searching with no results. Plenty of results on android phones with asking how to BLOCK auto dim. However, for someone looking to set the dim timeout on a galaxy note, nothing. I can't find anything in the settings and Tasker doesn't show an option either.
Any other ideas?

i tried the star hash 0 star hash on dial pad, to bring up the test centre. I clicked on every box including dimmer and sleepmode to test it.
Now since then, every time i lock and unlock my phone, the brightness reverts back to some minumum setting. I can still change brightness when i long press the notification bar but it will always change back to the low setting. And i also cannot get into settings/display/brightness...its greyed out.
I have tried turning my phone on and off again
Help what did i do wrong
If your battery level is below 15% i think, the phone will disable the brightness control in the settings, greyed out, and will run at lowest brightness, until you charge the phone.
You can use the power control widget to adjust the brightness, but as soon as the phone goes to standby and you wake it up it will be back to minimum brightness again.
ok thanks, coincidence in timing when doing the lcd test and low battery..got me in a panic because I didn't have power saving mode enabled.
Yeah, it got me worried when it happened to me, as i was not using power saving as well, it`s a bit of a cheek to force low brightness when the battery is below 15% , the camera also does not work as well, great.
Hey Guys,
I'm having a weird issue where the screen brightness keeps changing itself every time I turn the screen off. I tried disabling Smart Actions & Automate It (tasker-like app), changing the brightness in the display setting, unchecking the display power saver option. In all cases if I set the brightness to 100% after turning the screen off and then on again the brightness will be down to like 10% or so, although the indicators I have will still tell me the screen is at 100%. Any ideas?
Thanks.

Me too, it only happens randomly though, i thought it had something to do with the"Lux" app i use to control brightness.
Do u use any screen protectors? It could b interfering with the light sensor
Sent from my ICS Moto Razr XT910
There is a screen protector but this is happening when brightness is not set to Auto. It's set to 80% and every time I hit the power button and then turn the screen back on it dims to like 0-10%. I've tried closing all running processes and it still happens. I also tried resetting the phone and it initially wasn't doing this but once I setup all the programs it does, so it must be somehow related to a non-running process program configuration. Any ideas?
Thanks
Edit: Found out it was the Lightflow app, uninstalled it and no more brightness dimming issue.

interesting. I had that app installed for a while, maybe it messed something up that uninstalling didn't fix. I guess a hard reset is in my future. sigh.
So I've noticed when using smart view to cast to a TV screen, the phone screen will turn to a low power mode, that says smart view, press power or swipe to turn on. My concern is that this image causes image persistence once smart view is done, and could eventually lead to burn in. Does anyone know if this screen moves, like the Always on Display images do; or if there is a way to disable this screen without disabling the screen staying potentially awake the whole time. It may not be possible, but I wanted to see if anyone had any experience. The only possible workaround I've come up with is to use the android native casting feature (via nova and a widgets activity) and perhaps the following app.

I'm finding that mine doesn't always enter the power saving while mirroring which I wish it would when I want it to. If I turn the screen off while mirroring, then ask Google voice to play next song or something the screen mirroring wakes up and display on the external screen and puts the power save mode on the phone which is what I'd expect.
I wish mine did this without having to turn the screen off and the wake it up with voice. If I wake it up with the power button then screen mirror comes on b I t so does the normal screen on the phone.
Maybe we can swap ha ha.
Anyone else not getting the power save option when mirroring? I need to turn the screen off then ask Google to do something for the power save to work. Turning the screen back on doesn't help, just asking Google voice seems to bring it back. I was hoping it would just time out and start automatically. Samsung don't seem to understand their own options, with them telling me that it's not possible until I pointed out it's a software feature if their phone then they went silent.
Im using 2 apps Rotation Control to lock on orientation mode and Power Toggles to toggle sleep mode.
Rotation Control:
I use it to lock on landscape mode all the time. But with some apps, it still opens in portrait mode and even set to auto mode. Still it wont turn to landscape mode at all and can only use it on portrait mode! Some apps, it still opens in portrait mode, but after turned on auto mode and turn the tablet to landscape mode and I can lock it to landscape. But still very annoying to do this every time. it happens. I have never such problem in all mine apps in all mine previous tablets. Only on this M5 tablet.
Power Toggle:
I use this widget to toggles between sleep time. Ex set it to 3-10 min and after a while it turns auto back to 30 sec!
Anyone can tell me what the heck is going on? Is it the tablet/EMUI or apps causing this?
Rotation Control works perfectly for me, although I primarily force auto rotation. I'm rooted if it makes a difference (I don't think it does).
If you use a third party app/widget to change screen brightness or timeout, the value resets after you turn the screen off. That's an EMUI thing, I think. There is probably a work around (I would try freezing iAware if rooted) although I have learned to roll with it. Kindisplay does work to keep the screen on where movement is detected.

I managed to solve orientation problem to allow Rotation Control for app overlay. But the annoying Android system shows up in status bar and can't get rid of that message.
I suspected that was EMUI thing, reset to 30 sec. But can't find any solution to this stupid feature.
This will be mine first and last Huawei device. Good quality but crap software.

That's and Android thing I believe, not EMUI. You can get rid of the notification by following these instructions:

What's up guys. I drive with my phones mounted on a phone mount. Whenever I hit a little bump, my screen wakes up. I find it annoying. I couldn't really find anything in the settings to cancel the screen wake up function. Is there an app suggestion that could help me. Thanks in advance.
*Solution found*
I found an app called Smart Screen On Off made by Luu Tinh. My screen no longer wakes up when driving. The different features of the app if you guys are interested :
Double tap on Home Screen to turn off screen.
- The sensor will automatically detect, and auto power on / off screen to help you.
- You can disable the feature when the screen rotates horizontally.
- You can set separate delays when the screen on / off to avoid accidentally enabled.
- Support power to quickly head off the screen.
- Support for using the same cover.
- Auto screen off when put your phone into pocket.
- Improve best performance. Only use a maximum of 5 MB RAM.
Edit again dammit. Disregard the first solution.
The raise to wake setting is under the smart gestures portion of the phones settings
It's a built in feature to the phone. Lift to wake
Can just turn it off in settings
