Hi everyone...
I rooted my NT using this walkthrough (blog.the-ebook-reader . com/2012/01/02/nook-tablet-rooting-guide-complete-walkthrough-video/) and I found it to be a bit unstable. My problem now is I want to factory reset it. Any method I try to use results in it displaying an error message ("Please restart your device and try again. If you encounter the same issue, please contact customer service.")
I have tried holding down the power + n button until the n logo screen comes up, Indirect's unroot apk, chainfire 3d apk, and Adam's Ubuntu recovery. I have also tried the 8 failed boots and erasing and deregistering the device.
They all result in a regular start up or the error message.
Thank you for the help!
chainfire 3d apk is what messed your device.... prep an sdcard with CWM to boot into it then wipe data > advanced dalvik cache and flash a new ROM.
There are 1.4.0 stock ROMs as flashable CWM zip and backup format with root, apps and more ready to be installed in CWM easily.
Read here -METHOD#1 and use this instruction for prep your sdcard.

Thank you for the information...I'm attempting it, but I'm not off to a great start.
The EASEUS program isn't giving me any create partition options for the sd card. The card is blank and isn't showing any partitions or unallocated space. I've reformatted it several times trying to make it work, but it's not. I've tried FAT32 and NTFS file systems.

Hmmm that's odd are you using a card reader or directly from the nook? make sure its not locked the card reader. A screenshot can help to identify the prob.
I always format my sdcards with SDFormatter for windows.
~ Veronica
OK, I used a different sd card and it worked just fine.
Now, I selected the wipe data option and advanced dalvik cache and when I rebooted, nothing had changed. All the data was still there.
Also, not sure about how to flash a new ROM.
Any ideas?
I just noticed that when I run the factory reset wipe, it says it failed...I attached a screen shot...
I attempted this method (http://forum.xda-developers .com/showthread.php?t=1495869) several times with no result...

That is not a failed wipe, the wipe completes and that error is normal we all have it so dont worry.
Now that you made all wipes go to mount&storage and format system ONLY system, if you format any other partition apart of /data, /cache and /system you will brick your device.
Reflash a ROM (With all wipes and format system that will be a "fresh install")

OK, I was getting really frustrated and decided to take a couple days off to calm down before I threw the NT out the window (haha)
So now that it's been a few days, I decided to try again!
Unfortunately, now it won't even boot CWM off the SD card. GAHH!! haha...
(side note: I went to Nook online support to randomly see if they'd wipe the device in store if I brought it in. The woman goes "we can't do anything for a rooted device...by the way, what's the serial number of your device?" Like I'd fall for THAT one! ;] )

maybe is the battery that i dead as you waited for few days, put it to charge for some hours and check back.
You can plug it to your computer while is off and it should boot up too... works for many users. But still you need to put it to charge first.
~ Veronica
No, that's not it...I leave it on the charger and I've been using it like normal.
It skips over CWM and boots up like normal. Well, actually it starts to boot and then it restarts and boots again. Sometimes a couple times. But either way, it doesn't go to CWM at all.
I have the same issue after using chainfire 3d apk. whenever i restart it takes me to CWM-based recovery mode after 8 restarts. I tried to reinstall CWM , after install when i restart it , it still takes me to the same place. I dont know what to do///. Is there anyone who can help me with this.
I actually don't think chainfire is what messed me up. I was trying to reset using several different methods and that was the very last thing I tried to factory reset it. It wasn't resetting BEFORE I used chainfire.
Also, mine isn't rooted using the cyanogen mod root.
I did wipe data, advanced dalvik cache and formated the system only and then used sd card to install NT16GBV46.IMG. Now it just takes me to the white screen with "N READ FOREVER" and it doesnt do anything after that. It also lets me go to CWM recovery mode. It not doing the 8 times flashy thing before it goes to recovery mode due to chainfire 3d pro apk file. Does any one has any ideas what do i have to do next for NT to work normally.
That's an unrelated issue to the original post. I'd post your own thread so that you get more relevant information.
I think I am going to install Ubuntu on my home computer when I get out of work and maybe try giving Adam's Ubuntu total wipe another go.
Cross your fingers! Haha...
Well, I couldn't get Ubuntu working right on my computer so I just tried using the image writer to put the file on an sd card. Still no luck.
It flashes the "Please do not turn off the power" screen and then immediately jumps to "Please restart the device."
Guess I'm just stuck with a poorly rooted device
Stupid question: what would happen if I try to root CM7 OVER the NookandZergy root? Wouldn't everything be wiped clean because it would reformat everything? Or would I end up bricking the NT?
I'm wondering if this was a solution all along...
So now your NT boots right? CM7 already comes rooted i dont understand what you tried to say in your latest post (its very confusing) Please explain better the status of your device so we can help better. Post what exactly steps you have done so far for your tablet to semi-brick, what exactly does when it boots and if you can somehow boot into CWM now.

My NT has always booted up...However, if I have CWM on the SD card, it skips over it and boots like normal.
I rooted my NT using the NookandZergy method. I'm wondering what would happen if I tried to re-root over it using CM7. It's not bricked at all right now, I'm wondering if rerooting with CM7 would make it brick.

Ok so I tried restoring my G-tablet to factory settings and I manage to do eevrything wrong I'm good I know... Anyways I followed http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=861950 that thread and did nvflash FULL restore, using bekit's original image. After all that when the Gtab boots up in just stays in the Tap n Tap logo trying to load. I tried Rcgabriel's solution and I dont know how to rename the partition 9 file name to make it clockworkmod. I'm sure its not hard I just cant seem to do it right. Any help will be appreciated thank you all.
This may be a stupid question but how long did you wait at the Tap N Tap screen? When I restored mine it stayed there for a good 5 minutes or longer before giving me the home screen. Maybe wait a bit longer. Or nvflash it again.
Well....if you have a MicroSD card you can try to load Clockwork from there, then repartition the card. That might get you back up and running. Best thread for that, I think, is this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=865245
That should give you step by step instructions on how to install Clockwork from an external SD card.

If you can boot to apx mode you're probably not bricked. I would reinstall clockwork and partition the sd card or would try to nvflash again.

I am having the same problem.
History: I have used a whole bunch of different ROMS without any problems. Normally CWM works wonders for me. I have even nvflashed a couple of times and have been able to return to stock without any problems.
Enter Yesterday; I was just looking around and saw that viewsonic had an OTA out on 4/14. And I think to myself, I have to check it out. So as a natural process, I nvflash just like all the other times I have done it. But ALAS, I am not enjoying the TAP-n-TAP screens. The tablet just powers itself off after a while. When I power again, it just gets to the tap-n-tap screens and just stops there.
What I have done so far.
1. nvflash like a million times.
2. FORMAT and nvflash
3. Tried CWM on the SD card. ( I watch CWM install but then when I try VOL+ and power on, It shows CWM installing again and again.)
PLEASE HELP.
I had this, here are the basics of what I did to resolve it:
1. nvflash (which you have done)
2. Install CWM from the SD card (remembering that you have to edit the file "command" to say SDCARD2: instead of SDCARD: )
3. Remove the SD card
4. Go into CWM
5. Repartition the SD card
6. Clear cache/clear data (although I do not think this is necessary)
7. I might have had to re run nvflash. I did it so many times that day that I can not remember if I did it on my final run.
::edited to make step 2 not end in a smiley
Did you try doing NVflash with the part9.img file renamed to CWmod image file. When you do this this will put CWmod in there for you and then you can clear the cache and data.
Read sticky warning on using the latest update with CWM and older roms

Hanging or looping at the TapNTap logo animation can usually be cleared with a simple data wipe. Try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1030915

Weird things happen when you interrupt a process like that. You may have screwed it up the first time around
the phone keeps coming up with a error. With a picture of a phone with a triangle with a exclamation point inside of it.
I have been searching I hope somebody can tell me.

That's the stock recovery. If you think that you are rooted with a custom recovery like Amon_RA, it sounds like either you are not, or you were and somehow you restored the stock recovery.
So, are you rooted? Is this the first time that you tried to get into Recovery? What method did you use to root the phone?
Universal 1 Click Eris Root App Apk - No PCs, No Scripts Needed, EASY
I'm not sure what I did wrong. I guess I need to know where I need to start from to restore the phone. So if someone can point me to the right direction that would be great. Also I'm not sure if the phone is Rooted still , I think were I messed up is where, I was installing custom ROM on the phone When it was booting up. It locked up at the loading spring. i installed GSB.v3.0-CM7.0.2-Eris
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=792026 this will put you back to stock unrooted or download the rootcheck app in the market and check if you have root
if so then dont flash back to stock download rom manger and use that to flash a recovery either clockwork or scroll down and flash amons recovery i recommend amon ra recovery

Wait, so that sounds like you actually had Amon_RA recovery?
Question: when you installed GSB, did you wipe data/factory reset? And also flash Google apps?
If you start in the bootloader (hold VolDn when you power up), there should be a prompt to press VolUp to start in Recovery. If you press power up, do you get the Amon_RA recovery or do you get the exclamation point with triangle?
I fixed it last night I installed Amon_RA recovery . But I went back to GSB v3.0 where I messed up the first time installed find the second time but my SD card is not recognizing anymore. in the os. Only my 1gb SD card works now.

Did you ever partition the card for apps2sd on a ROM like xtrROM? If so, you'll need to repartition the card so it has only one partition. (You do this the same way that you partitioned - namely:
- backup the contents of your SD card
- restart in Recovery
- partition SD card menu
- partition SD
- set the options for partition sizes for ext2 and swap to 0 bytes
That will reset the card to a single partition, formatted fresh.
Thanks you guys, it's completely working now.
good news
it sure is good news. But now my friend has one that he's willing to sell me for $10.00 but it does not boot and I've been trying to fix it . I would like to get it for my girlfriend but figure if there's anything that can be done to it I think it's a paperweight. I can get to HBoot and fastboot . But not to recovery.
But for 10 bucks you can't beat it for parts right if I cant fix it

I'm starting to think the phone has hardware issues also so I don't think it's can be fixed I think it's for parts only
So here's my story. I decided I wanted to root my Bell Motorola Atrix and put Cyanogenmod on it. So I went to this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1302423 and followed it step by step perfectly - no issues. I installed the latest nightly of Cyanogenmod for the atrix without any issue it said it was successful and I let it boot. In the guide it said wait up to 10 minutes but my phone never got passed the "unlocked" screen after like 15 minutes. So I did a battery pull and tried again - same issue. So I tried reinstalling it and went through the same process of not getting passed the "unlocked" screen. I then tried recovering into my backup. Now this is where I think my problems are coming from.
After transfering the cyanogenmod nightly build zip to my phone I was pretty low on space, but I thought nothing of it. I did the clockworkmod backup and it seemed to have no problems however I noticed afterwards my phones internal storage was sitting at something like 5kb of free space left. So fast forward to now, and I'm currently thinking even though it said it worked, I think it didn't manage to backup everything so I'm left without a proper backup to restore from. (At least I figure, because it won't work.)
So pretty much I'm able to boot in to the clockworkmod menu but that's about it, and I'm not sure if I can install a new rom with how little internal space I have, is there anything I can do? :S Help would be REALLY APPRECIATED! Sorry if this is in the wrong section!!!
Right section! From within CWM, you can go to Mounts and Storage> Mount USB storage so that you can clean some stuff out from your computer. Then just try another ROM!
When I do that I can only get my external SD to show up under my computer, I can't get access to the internal memory.
Thanks for the reply!!
They should both show. Try another reboot into recovery. Why not just use your external if you have one?
Hm. I thought it installed it onto the internal storage. Or at the very least, your phone boots from the internal storage.
I'll try that and see how it goes, thanks very much!
No problem. Let me know how it goes, and hit the thanks BUTTON
I installed Cyanogenmod from the external sd (internal still won't show up) and I'm still getting stuck at the "unlocked" screen. :S

A fastboot wipe? Like going into cwm and clearing cache, dalvik cache, etc?
If that's not it, what is it?
It can be accessed by holding volume down during a boot. It's part of the android SDK. I'll find you a link in a sec, hold on.
EDIT:
I haven't personally tried this tool. Give it a shot:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1314607
Make sure your phone is in fastboot mode and use the tool for option 10 (erase all).
Then retry flashing CM7 from your external sd.

Still not work. Stuck on unlock screen.
The steps I took just now were:
1. Option 10 through the tool you just showed me.
2. Boot into cwm
3. Install cyanogen through my sd card
It's weird, the first install I did took a few minutes. Ever since, each time I've attempted an install it says it's successful after like 15 seconds.
It's a small package and shouldn't take that long (15 seconds sounds about right). I'd try the latest weekly instead. Do the fastboot wipe again first.

Well the last thing I can think to try (and this is only because of your space issue): Boot into recovery again, Mounts and Storage>format all of the options there manually. Perhaps the PDS fix from the fastboot tool as well.

I'm not entirely sure if I'm using that one. Would it make much of a difference?
Well it's (potentially) the only inconsistency between what I do every day and what you are doing now. When you boot into recovery it should say up top what build it is. Mine reads "CWM-based Recovery v5.0.2.7-atrix5." You should be using this one (grab it from my previous link if you aren't).
I changed from an iPhone 4 in May to the Samsung Note. On my iPhone I would immediately jailbreak and install MyWi. In my research to do the same on the note I ran across a rooting tutorial for my device and followed the instructions http://www.androidauthority.com/galaxy-note-att-i717-root-without-increasing-flash-counter-61325/ (I am not positive, but I feel confident this is the one I followed). I installed Superuser and Titanium Backup, did a backup of ATT connection manager, then removed it. Tethering worked like a charm. This has worked and I had no issues until Friday June 14th.
On Friday, everytime I opened an app on my phone I would get a Force Close. I restarted the phone and watched as it repeatedly happened after every cycle. Believing that installing Droid VNC Server was the issue, the last app I had installed, I removed it successfully and included others I didn’t use. Upon reboot, I noticed the notification of App Updates and a missed call. Checked the application list and noticed that all of the apps I had just removed were still there. I have a ton of pics and videos and thought that I should back them up immediately before I deleted them, prepared for the worst. I was able to do that. I deleted them all, nothing in the gallery. When the phone crapped out again and rebooted, all apps and all pictures back.
I formatted the USB Storage, seemed to delete nothing and also showed the same amount of used space as before.
Time for a restore. I know now that the recovery partition is gone and so a Wipe/reset is fruitless. No problem. I know how to flash the rom. I used this method with Odin. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1506330
Everything seemed to work successfully, but upon reboot I get the same app updates notification and the same missed call notification. The same frozen state my phone was in when the issue started on Friday. WTH!
I have everything backed up. How do I get back to stock? I could care less about the counter. I just want my phone to be usable again.

did you try wiping Catche and Dav?
Wipe Catch > Wife Davlik > Fix Permision, then reboot ..
see what happens ..
Not a noob, but here is where i am lost
I booted in to recovery, chose to Wipe/Erase . I see no option to Wipe Davlik except for in SuperUser and there it is a paid option, not sure where to find Fix Permission and then reboot?
I am assuming these are all options for CWM. I attempted to put CWM on an SD card last night and install from ZIP, but Recovery does not seem to see the SD card.
Are these options that are available for CWM, if so I will push through until I get it to work, but I have had no luck to this point.

I have done plenty of research and need something more to push on to the next thing. I am looking at phone and there is not an Advanced option in recovery. I have read there are options in CWM but I am looking at what I believe is the stock recovery options.

after you are rooted ,
you should have nothing to do with Odin.
and also, if you were stuck on your phone trying to boot up, chances are you keep downloading a bad ROM..
happen to me before..a ROM that was suposed to be 192MB,
would finish on 158MB
someone else may be able to help you get back to stock ROM..i havent had the chance to ever wanna go back to stock so i wouldnt know for sure.
sorry and good luck .
Still Worried. Still Stuck

Time for a restore. I know now that the recovery partition is gone and so a Wipe/reset is fruitless. No problem. I know how to flash the rom. I used this method with Odin to undo root. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1506330

Would you say this is a good tutorial to follow?

So, maybe I am a newb. I have followed the instructions to install CWM on my device and it even says it was successful. I am doing it from ODIN. See the file I downloaded here. Says it was successful but holding the volume up and then power button. NO CWM.
I am truly frustrated but I want my phone back. Can someone link me to the stupid people posts so I can get my phone working again?

CWM Problems
Hi,
Have you looked at these posts? Sounds like you may be using the
wrong key combo to start CWM?

Are you confident that your uSD card hasn't been corrupted?

You now have a custom recovery(according to Odin). The problem is, you're doing the wrong key combo as stated above. You can also go to the market and grab FJ's power tool. You can boot into recovery directly from the app. Good luck.
Certainly I am not this dumb..... am I

Still having issues. Here is the deal.
I have the phone in Download mode
https://www.dropbox.com/s/dnk6ekjqp9vddev/2012-06-19 19.40.01.jpg
I load the CWM Recovery in the PDA box. Start the flash, get a pass. All looks good to me.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/5q4hayf35mm26wr/odin-success.PNG
I immediately attempt to access CWM Recovery by holding the power, vol+ and vol- and still get the default recovery
https://www.dropbox.com/s/d176blydonlvrlu/2012-06-19 20.13.42.jpg
I am so confused as to what I am doing wrong.
Unfortunately those pics aren't loading for me. Try again with the pic of recovery and the file you're flashing. Thanks. If you still have stock recovery then maybe that's what you're flashing in error.
Try volume up + down and power button. When phone vibrates, release power button but keep holding volume buttons until you are in cwm.
I would use Odin to flash cwm touch recovery from pda, then load a rom via cwm. Using that method you don't even need to root because it's all done at bootloader level and root is built in to the custom rom you flash

I followed a post on here from malloneem - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2037368 - but I ran into an issue. I have CM7 running just fine on NT (thanks by the way ) but I'm trying up "upgrade" to CM10. I can boot into recovery and then into TWRP but it hangs after selecting the acclaim.zip file and gapps file. It states "Flashing file 1 of 2 /sdcard/sgt7-10-20121124-UNOFFICIAL-acclaim.zip" I let it run for 2 hours, but no luck.
Thanks in advance!

The method you're using is rather old. Before you try anything else I will interrupt your possibly long strenuous process of flashing CM10.
Before you attempt anything else, restore your tablet. You might be mad at me for saying this, but it makes things easier using the newer methods for flashing ROMs. You can restore your tablet by writing this repart.img to an SD card and putting it in your nook. It will write stock BN ROM to your tablet. Use this:
http://raywaldo.com/2012/06/how-to-un-brick-a-nook-tablet-8gb-or-16gb/
A lot of people have problems with TWRP. I could never get it to stop freezing up. Assuming you want to internally flash CM10 I'll give you this link to follow:
http://iamafanof.wordpress.com/2012/11/03/cm10-0-jelly-bean-for-nook-tablet-uploading/
If you are new to flashing ROMs there is a very simple way of using CM10 from an SD card. Just write it to your SD card and you're good! You can use a partitioning tool such as MiniTool to expand the different partitions of your SD card. Use this method if you want run from an SD card.
http://iamafanof.wordpress.com/2012/11/18/cm10-0-jellybean-sdcard-img-for-nook-tablet/
If you run into any problems along the way, just ask!
I appreciate the reply. I was able to flash back to factory, but I'm a bit perplexed on the second link. I do want to run CM10 internally. I was able to grab the file, but the link isn't exactly noob friendly on a "how to". Could you point me in the right direction to get started on this?
Thanks

Try this out.
Mega simple super duper easy way where you don't have to set up any partitions at all:
1. Download one of the ready-made CM10 sd-card images on Iamafanof website. Doesn't matter which! These images contain Cyanoboot.
2. Burn this image
3. Put your CM10 and gApps on this or another sd card.
4. Boot into Cyanoboot by holdninh "n" during bootup. Choose "sd recovery"
5. Clear cache and dalvik
6. Choose your zips and flash them
Once CM10 is installed you'll have Cyanboboot and CWM installed internally so if you need to reflass you just boot into Cyanoboot by holding the "n" at bootup.

@SuicidalSoldier:
I'd also suggest taking a look at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=37515697&postcount=31 for more info/pointers -- especially w.r.t. making backup in case you make mistakes in flashing.
Thank you for the info. I'll give these a try and post back my results.
Somehow after installing I keep stuck at the CyanogenMod splash screen.
I have already re-installed but to no avail.
Any hints?

Takes a while for the initial boot to start. Just wait 2 or 3 minutes and it should boot.

It indeed takes 2-3 minutes but then it just flashes the Android home screen and goes back to the cyanogenmod boot splash screen.
I am guessing I should install another build perhaps?

Go to recovery and do a factory rest/total wipe, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache. Then install the ROM again. If it still doesn't work try a different ROM.

By "cyanogenmod boot splash" do you means "Cyanoboot splash" or "Cyanogenmod boot-animation"?
You need to say more on what you did to "flash the ROM" so that we can discern what you might have done wrong.

Thanks dude, that did the trick. I guess the problem I had was with a corrupt image that I have downloaded.
