Welcome to the View man! First, if you're new to rooting, you should use kevinrocksman's multitool which is found is found here that will allow you to root and s-off so you can flash roms.
That same tool has the roms that are available for the view and it does the work for you. CypherROM(my rom) is a sense based Honeycomb rom that has all your tweaks, is themed, and debloated. It's also the most current HC rom.
Grafixnycs rom is desensed if your looking at going that route.
Gumby63 also has a desensed rom out.

Hey man, I really suggest reading the Development Thread. It gives you step by step instructions how to root, unlock, and flash ROMs. I would also suggest watching qbking77's videos on youtube so you get a visual guide. Regarding themes, we've got some great ones in the Theme/App thread that you should try out once you're rooted and are running that ROM of your choice. First things first though, learn how to root, backup your phone, and restore...it's key if you ever screw up.
I rooted my phone before and was successful with that but then when I tried to do a ROM I got a bunch of error because I deleted something and now I just got it back to the stock/factory settings.
Go to Youtube and type in how to root the motorola photon and watch the videos by qbking
This photon dev sucks

I have owned a samsung moment evo3d nexsus s 4 g and photon this is the worst development ever like odin the unlock is unlock then root and recovery in the same it seems poorly put together and qbking lol magnify rom suks quit saying its the best im thinking s2 and give this to my girl and like wheres the roms magnify basicly a little theming done to stock. Then cm7 looks the best except im not wanting to edit i mean i can just really not feeling it
Actually you can Google "one click photon root"
I did get the root back. I found a one click root and have root access all again. I am just trying to find out how to keep 4G and get custom ROM's and/or ICS(Ice Cream Sandwich) OS for Android. That would be amazing! Any help????????????????
You can attempt porting ics..and u can try the alien rom with 4g..read the thread...itll show u how to do it..

Sorry for my ignorance but what do you mean Port ICS? And what do you think about Alien Rom with 4G? Because I heard some mix reviews.
I just think this post can help with some beginners as well as me. Just trying to get as much info as I can. Don't want to brick my phone again lol
Well, basically since we don't have an official ICS release for our phone yet, you'd need to build it to our phones specs. I don't know anything about how to do that, as I'm not a technical/rom/kernel developer.
Regarding Alien ROM..it was a good ROM to start with when the phone was in the early stages. Thanks to KenPenn who brought that over from the Atrix.. The themeing is great on it, but I have to say again that this was an older build before the phone went through the latest updates and won't be fully functional for the latest builds. You can always try it, and then flash back if you don't like it.

No dice at this time. 4G breaks when you unlock. ICS is only as CM9, and that requires unlocked loader. Skinny4G through bootstrap (see QBKing77 video) is only way to get rom and keep 4G. Won't be able to overclock though.

Magnifier rom actually works pretty well. It definitely feels lighter than the stock rom. It was really nice paired with jokeraxs 1.4 oc kernel. Personally, I use the skinnyrev2 pre test with the same 1.4oc kernel.
Funny that you are making fun of qbking and Magnifier ROM...where's your ROM you developed, or your how-to video? I give a lot of credit to the group at ACS for making both a quality ROM as well as great videos to help make rooting and modding your photon easy.

Figured there would be some kind of announcement. Just gotta wait now!
I have tried ROCKO rom and CM9 on my electrify. I have to say that CM9 is a great rom. ROCKO is great if youe like motoblur. WOuld really depend upon what type rom you like.
after root you have to unlock with pudding in order to put 95% of the roms on your phone and you will lose 4g in the process.

Switched to the EVO, need a point in the right direction

So, ive made a big switch. I went from a Captivate with 2.3, to my EVO 3D. Im currently running on 2.3.4 and Hboot 1.49.
Im looking to root the dev so i can remove some of the onboard rogers crap. Stuff in the background is running when i don't want it to. And some of the games and junk on here, i just want to get rid of.
Im reading several threads, but none of them are specific enough. Can someone point me to the proper rooting thread for this build? I dont plan on using a ROM, this OS is stable as it is.
As well, can someone recommend me an Antivirus? Ive heard of people starting to use these, maybe someone can suggest me one.
Thanks in advance,
-Dan

Apparently you haven't read the important threads, otherwise you would have posted this in the right forum :')
Antivirus is overrated AFAIK, it's pretty much only an issue if you plan on installing unknown APKs or using third party app stores. I've been hacked once when I installed an unknown APK on my tablet, which resulted in a password reset of my Google account because my credentials were compromised and some prick attempted to log in to my account from Argentinia
I've looked at the other forum regulations and this was the one that came the closest to the subject. Then again, i also haven't been on the forum for about 6-9 months.
If someone can direct this thread to the proper section that would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

this forum is for ROM development. Your thread is about a question you have. That means this thread should go into Q&A (I honestly feel sorry for doing this, the Q&A forum is a very dark place where you can easily lose your mind among the imbeciles)
Definitively off dev thread ;-)
Depending on your hboot version many subprocesses are related.
My advise is to precisely indentify tour default settings then you will easily find out your happiness to clean what you dont want.
Btw, in dev section there are severals cleaned stock roms.
Depending on what you are looking for and consequences (root needed, s off, ...), make tour choice and enjoy.
Personnaly my favorite for daily usage is the Mwakious 3d one, but official ics update is coming since this morning all around the world (do not know for Roget)
Jump and enjoy this really Nice and Effective toy.

Well, ill take a closer look around and see what may benefit me. As stated before, im on Hboot 1.49. Im used to rooting and customizing my Captivate, not exactly the same as the HTC, thats for sure.
moved to q&a as this is not development. if you did not develop anything then do not post in the development section

I like the anti-theft features of Lookout, but I prefer the other features (especially with regard to root features) of Avast. Right now though, I'm not running any.

Rom porting

How hard is porting roms from the att HTC one x to the rezound? Please don't go to hard on me. Just was curious. Seems a lot of devs that are here also are on HTC one x. Awesome phone but sucks not having s-off and no expandable memory
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using Tapatalk 2
I would think it would take some effort and knowledge to port a rom and have it run up to standards. So probably not that easy.
Thank you Jon. Just was curious cause I have both phones. The one x is very snappy but the rezound us alot more fun to. Dev with.

Actually i just looked and found a guide to porting a sense rom in between devices. It actually doesnt look that hard, it looks more like replacing just replacing files if anything. I think it just depends on what rom your trying too port. If your trying to port over a different sense version it might require more work. If your trying to port an AOSP rom it might not be too difficult. Porting an android version is probably the hardest.
I see. Would be nice to try figure out that stuff. I am too inexperienced to try I think. Done minor things. Was just seeing if the one xl jellybean update that dropped last night would help the devs over here.

I was actually thinking of making a very basic rom to start with like a sense 3.6 rom that might have some tweaks and such. Maybe try making my own AOSP rom, though im not entirely sure how to go about making an AOSP rom. I suppose i could also try using the guide i found to port over a sense rom as well.
Wanna share where that guide is?

Just keep in mind when porting, it will be better as well as easier if you can port from a device similar to what you are porting too. Similar cpus, gpus, lte, screen resolution and network type. It all needs to be taken into consideration.
Personally if I was you, I'd start looking at Sprint devices if you want to port to the Rezound. Sprint and Verizon have the closest devices and the closest bands of any other providers out there.
Of course there are always tricks to getting around porting a full rom. Once you get to going and learn your way around porting real good, you'll learn what they are and how to do it. If you need an example of this, look up my AOKP + TouchWiz hybrid for the Rezound.
Edit: This thread made me feel nastalgic. I remember back when I first started porting. I worked and worked hard learning new tricks here and there. Back then I wrote a guide. It wouldn't be useful now, but if you wanted to humor me and see how this old dog did it back in the day you should check it out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1169570

[Q] Remove app asso. AKA FApple on 3.16 ROMs

Hey guys,
Does anyone know if Steal25 or anyone for that matter has been working on removing app associations from any of the 3.16.xxx roms that are out now? Of course, we all want it back the old way but I am saddened that the last rom I used with FApple baked in (MeanBEAN 2.09) has gone the way of the dog since MikeyXDA moved on to other projects.
I would really like to see a complete sense 5 port with FApple baked in. I know I'm a noob, but damn, I would love to help out in some way. (Learning, Testing, Tweaking)
Also, does anyone know if the HTC One is in the same boat from stock, my wife is planning on buying one today.
Are you referring to this?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1947686
Read the end of the OP. I hope that this helps you out in your search.

HTC Evo 4G LTE
I'll definitely look into it. I would have loved to pull it off on MeanBEAN but MikeyXDA moved on. There is another dev's ROM I am impressed with but he's not around these parts anymore either.
I tried to pull of the edits myself but no dice there, because the build.prop would switch back to the original settings. Maybe there is something I am doing wrong.

[Q] Recomended ROM with 3D usage?

Hello, people, I'm getting a new Evo 3d (x515m GSM), maybe a bad choice this times, but still I love to see some of the 3D (closed?)tecnology.
Since it's old and may be forgotten, I just want to know what's the last ROM you use or at least a reccomended one with full 3d functionality.
I'm ready to wreck my brain to search how to root, s-off, and all of the things needed, still don't wanna mess too much with the ROM if we could have a nice one working from the beggining. :silly:
Thanks a lot for your time, and hope you can help me! :good:
PD: saw some threads but they call android 2.3.x versions, I wanna get ICS or better if there's the chance.

I am on the cdma version so can't recommend any Rom by name but for reference only time based on HTC's will have full 3d. If your not a sense fan try Miui has an ice version built on sense 3.6 so all 3d functions work. Also there is Yet Another sense 4.1 that has working 3d and I believe there gsm version works real well.

Thanks a lot for your help!, now I'm looking between "Yet Another sense 4.1", "cool sense" and "next-gen rom", some of them even got some cpu/gpu tweaks to boost it a little bit.

CPU/GPU tweaks are kernel related, it has nothing to do with ROMs.
