So, I bought my son a cheap little 7" Android Tablet for his 7th birthday from Amazon. He loves my Skyrocket and Thrill, so I figured he would enjoy it. Got it today and was thinking of rooting it. It seems pretty much unbranded. Here is the issue- It does not hook directly to the pc as our phones do. It has a hub adapter that plugs into it that has 2 usb ports and 1 ethernet port. Will getting a double female usb cord work? If not, are there any on device rooting solutions out there anymore? Here are a few of the specs-
A8 Processor @800MHz
Android Version- 2.3.3
No Baseband
Kernel Version-2.6.35.7-infoTM
Build Number-GRI40
Model Number-m7206 v2.2
Thanks guys. I am not looking for anyone to walk me through this, just a nudge in the right direction. Google has not gotten me anywhere, mainly because of the lack of interface to the pc. Otherwise, I would already have given it a go with Superoneclick just to test it. Again, thanks guys.
Additionally, this Tablet DOES have the actual Android Market on it. Already downloaded quite a few app just to make sure. I downloaded Titanium Backup just to assure myself. Of course without root, it did me no good. More for confirmation than anything.
It appears as if my post was somewhat premature. Gingerbreak has got me done up right. Generic Tablet-$72.00. Rooted-Priceless.

on another phone especially the galaxy sII? wondering it would on another device.
It has a proprietary connector so no.
the mhl dongle? it can be had, but i don't it is available commercially in the us. happen to know if any non motorola phones with hdmi out has tried webtop?

You have to connect both connectors at the same time. And if I read correctly, one of the two is a proprietary connector by Motorola.
no. i have the atrix. it's just micro hdmi and micro usb. the galaxy has mhl connection which can be used for hdmi out i believe. it's just hard getting mhl because hardly anything is using it right now.
Samsung provides an microUSB to HDMI cable. But then again, you can't connect both at the same time.
And I think the Atrix has some specific drivers (and a lot of modified Android OS files) too. While they can be dumped, you'd need to adapt them on a GSII ROM. And since it's quite useless, nobody will dive into this huge reverse engineering work.
Definately a no-go.
well some of the atrix webtop files have been pulled and that is part of what i was wondering if anybody has tried to do a quick zip with them and seen what happens. i'm pretty sure it isn't that simple because as you've said, probably custom files from motorola. to some peeps it might be worth it to be able to use webttop/lapdock but who knows how deep you gotta dig in. i don't have the skills for it and am not requesting it either. some phones have been able to boot into other os'es and such so this task isn't unsurmountable.
While it isn't surmontable, it would be pretty hard (not only there's some files related to the webtop (libs and such), but there's also a completely changed Android framework). So it would be a pain in the ass to adapt this with Samsung files.
And since there maximum 5 guys in the world who have both a motorola webtop and a Galaxy S II, there's not a lot of chances to have it working.
And again, there are not the right connectors. Even if the software is adapted, there's still the hardware issue.
Well thanks for all the answers. I was more curious about if other android users were curious about webtop and galaxy sii was a good forum to ask because it's a powerful phone and popular. I got the lapdock and it's pretty good for light duty utilization. And easier on the eyes. Thanks for your answers again.
I voided my warranty.
Hi guys, wonder can anyone help me. I purchased a dock for the G Tablet from a company in Chine a few months ago. I only got round to trying it out recently and the results where not good.
The dock charges the G Tablet when the PSU is connected to it, but that is all that it does. The USB port does not work, the pens light up but the G Tab does not see them.
The network port does not do any thing when a cable is plugged in.
The HDMI also does not do anything.
I have tried it with several different versions of Android including the T&T that was on the G Tab originally.
Am I missing something ? Do I need to install certain software of certain Abroid version ?.
It wouldn't usually bother me but the dock cost me over £35 and I do not want to purchase another until I am sure this one does not work. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
PS Keep up the great work, I love this site and have tried almost every new OS that has been put on it
No specific software should have to be installed. It's supposed to just work, so I'm thinking that it's bad hardware.

it2Steve did a very detailed review of this dock. The thread has been around for almost a year and has a lot of information if you take some time to read up on it.

So my LG Optimus finally got cm9.0 and Im pretty excited about the android ADK. Im assuming since im running ICS i shouldnt have any problems with using the ADK right?
Ive been looking for ways to interface android devices to hardware for quite a while, recently Ive just been using simple serial protocol with a 5 dollar BlueTooth adapter i got off ebay for like 5 bucks. This method works quite well for simple stuff and things that need to be wireless. Right now im working on being able to program Arduino and Propeller chips with my phone over bluetooth.
Im pretty interested in this ADK though. Im assuming above all else it will give me an easy API on the phone side to interface with my projects and maybe allot more speed transfer than my BT solution. Im a bit confused though. Does the ADK work with any hardware? I see a bunch of ardunio based ADK hardware on sparkfun so im a little confused as to wether you can interface with any old micro? I personally use the parallax propeller for most of my work and would like to get the adk working with it. Vaguley what needs to be done to get the ADK up and working with a propeller chip or any non sparkfun special hardware set up. Also is there any big advantage of using the ADK over a custom serial protocol via BlueTooth?
Im very excited about the ADK, any info or links or docs or anything would be appreciated as long as im not locked to arduino!
I'm sure this have been covered, although after doing a couple of days of research I can't seem to find the answer, so sorry in advance if this has been gone though already.
I'm on cyanogenmod kernel version 3.4.66-cyanogenmod-geaa7c91 with android version 4.3.1 and my dock doesn't work. won't charge or anything. While reading I found everyone had this issue when samsung upgraded to jellybean. So I assumed rooting-flashing was in order. I got it all done and still nothing. Also, galaxy s4 will not dock to it either. I'm guessing my dock might be faulty, although as a new unit I'd imagine it should work fine.
Do I need to run a different kernel/rom? Revert back to ICS stock samsung crap?
I'm not really worried about which rom/kernel I'm running. I'm just trying to dock this to my tv and run xbmc from it. It's a spare phone and I figured this was a better idea than buying a cheap computer to do the job, also much smaller.
If someone could answer my question here, or point me in the correct direction that would be great.
Thanks in advance.
