[Q] Samsung Moment - USB mounting only in recovery - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a Samsung Moment that has a flakey acting usb port. I can connect with qpst and cdma workshop, but I can't charge the battery or mount the sd card. Debugging is off, usb set to pda (tried modem setting too). It detects the usb cable connected but when I try to mount a blank screen titled Android System appears and disappears in a fraction of a second and no usb mount options appear. The weird thing is that I have no problem mounting the sd card in recovery, and I have no problems transferring files in either direction. The phone still won't charge, but everything else with the usb port seems to work without a hitch. The only time my batt. seems to charge (or act like it is) is when I power down from system, but then it only charges for about 30 secs before saying the batt. is fully charged. And it does this no matter how low the battery actually is. I only get about 2.5v on the batt. pins, but on another Moment I have that won't boot up but will charge the batt. I get around 4.5v. I'm running a 2.2 rom right now, but this phone had these issues when I got it (used) running stock 2.1.

[Q] Problem with USB port and function

Today i found out my SGS2 have problems charging the phone, not only that. i also have problems with USB file mode, and keis mode. and if the phone is turned off. i only once got it to charge without booting. else when i connect the USB it boot the OS.
What weird thing is, that ODIN works without problem every time!
The problem appeared after upgraded to Darky Rom KG6 with jkay mod. but don´t think it has anything to do with that.
I reflashed to a Stock KG6 (still same problem)
From OS restore to default, and format (still same problem)
tried to flash back to KE2 stock. an but on CWM, and clear battery stat, and system cache.
flashed backup with a KE2 Kernel (still had the same problem)
What i found out is that, when i disconnected the wall plug charger, the phone still was in a state of charging. and it don´t give the sound notify when attaching the USB. but when touch the USB cable it suddenly charge and give the sound. but it can also go in MTP mode. or start Voice recognize.
Could the be a faulty USB port on the phone, or can Battery State and kernel updates have something to do with this problem?
im now pretty sure this has something to do with the USB port. when i just spoke on the phone. it suddenly began to change between Car mode a normal.
i than tried an alternative why to deal with the problem. I tried with a hairdryer after taken out the battery, sim and sd card, and carefully heat the back of the phone.
for 5 hour there has not been any problem. both the desk dock, and wall charger is working.
got a dejavu from the xbox days and RROD.
I have the same issue. I think the USB port is faulty.
The phone reacts to different electrical resistor values on some pins of usb port that triggers car mode, desk mode, etc. So, somthing is faulty in the usb board that reports to the system that has something connected to it: charger, car dock, desk dock, usb jig, etc.
I can't find any solution on the forum, I tried with several roms and got nothing.
So... I'm waiting for a USB Jig to reset counter, back to stock rom and send it back to store for warranty
My problem seems to be fixed by using the hairdryer on the usb port. I think the problem appear from the why you hold the phone and if your hånd become sweaty. Because there are nothing to protection the usb port like the sgs1.

[Q] usb mounting problems.

About 3 months ago I started noticing the problem. Sometimes windows would recognize the phone, sometimes it wouldn't. When it did, my phone would give me the mount sd card option, and show the usb icon. When it didn't work, it would show nothing. My computer would beep and say the device is not recognized. I would then unplug and try again. After a while it would work.
Then one day, I unplugged the device and have not been able to get it to mount since. I plug the device in, computer beeps and tells me unrecognized device. And there is no change displayed from the phone. No usb connected icon, no mount sd. BUT, it does still charge, the now battery icon changes to the charging icon.
This hasn't been a problem because I can get on LAN over wifi and do what ever I needed to do wireless(AWESOME!) But...alas..tmobile SUCKS. And I'm thinking about switching. Sprint will credit me 130.00 to cover the ETF..HAHAHA. But if I'm going to get as much as I can for this phone on ebay, I need to figure out whats causing this problem.
I have tried 3 computers(all available usb ports) and 3 cables. One of which was brand new.
I am currently running Simply Honey 5. And read online that I need different usb drivers for the newer version of Android. I have found and downloaded these drivers but cannot get them to install. Windows 7 tells me that the current drivers for 'unknown device' are current and up to date when I try to point to the newer drivers.
What should my next step be? Is there a chance the port on my phone went bad? Maybe a pin needs to be pushed up a little?
thanks in advance
Nick

USB help required

Hi,
I hope I'm posting this in the right section.
I have a rooted S2, with CheckROM V6 installed and the Siyah Kernel (v 2.6.3). Earlier on today I was playing around with settings in Voltage Control and ExTweaks and to improve battery performance. This evening, I plugged in a USB cable to transfer some files between my laptop. However, when I plug in the cable it is not recognised by the phone, it neither starts charging nor does it show prompt me to mount the SD storage. If I plug the same cable into the plug I am able to charge the phone as normal, so it does not appear to be an issue with the cable. I have restored a proevious backup as well as re-flashing my ROM and doing a factory reset, none of which have made a difference. Has anyone experienced this before and able to provide some advice on what I could possibly do to enable USB charging or file transfer?
TIA,
Joseph
Bizarre
Thoroughly bizarrely, it appears that this was all random coincidence. I tried another cable and it works fine...strangest thing is the original cable worked fine before I started tweaking!

[Q] i777 micro USB problems - won't connect

I have an i777 (AT&T). I would like to root it. When you connect the micro USB cable, the phone starts to act strangely. First, you cannot charge the phone through the cable (I have to use an external charger and keep switching batteries). When you connect the cable, the phone does the following: every six seconds the black and white battery charging icon appears in the middle of the screen (the one that you see when the phone is off), and stays there for a split second. Then the screen is black until the battery icon appears again. The phone cannot be used while the cable is connected.
There are ways to send files to the phone (Kies Air) that let you work around the cable issue. But does anyone know how to fix this USB cable problem?
Thanks.
DO not charge your phone with it
Seems like your USB port is damaged and you can damage the internal parts by giving a fluctuating power supply
Hi. I have the same problem. Could you fix it? Charging and data transfer can be solved (external battery charger - airdroid) but I do not know how to root it. Is there any wireless way to root the device? Thanks

[Q] S3 charging port issue

Hi.
I've been using my S3 for about 2 years. Recently, I started having the following issues with it's charging port:
1. Charging is not consistent. It varies a lot. Sometimes slow, sometimes fast. Original Samsung charger charges slowly, HTC one charges the fastest.
2. If battery drops to 0, it does not turn on by connecting the charger. Instead, I have to connect it to PC. It then turns on and then starts charging.
3. It is not recognized by my PC (or any PC) that used to recognize it before. Changing USB cables, reinstalling drivers and all the usual tricks don't work. It is not recognized in recovery mode or mass USB storage mount either. However, it still charges the phone.
I have a strong suspicion that the problem is with the port but I need confirmation from you guys before giving it for repair. I'm on a custom 4.3 ROM and changing ROMs didn't help any of the above issues either.
Thanks.

Sounds like it could be the port at fault. The original charger is hopeless and not a good guide to go on.
