Hey Guys,
As the ROM's are flying in from everywhere (which is a good thing) the Developer Sub-Forum seems to be overcluttered with ROMs. To overcome this issue, there can be two Sub-Forums like in the Samsung Galaxy S2 Forums i.e:
Optimus One, P500 Android Development
Optimus One, P500 Original Android Development
So, the cool, uber-themed ROM's can reside in the P500 Android Development, while the Original ROM's such as CyanogenMod 7/9 , AOSP, Oxygen, Phoenix Etc. can be categorized in the P500 Original Android Development.
I don't actually know how to report this to the moderators (Im a noob ) but anyone that can, is most welcomed to do so.
Thanks,
Negi9

I like this idea a lot and think that it should be done.
Currently the Theme and Apps Section serves for Themed ROMs, unfortunately some people think their ROMs are so...
+1,
I was thinking of this too, but was not able to actually come to a conclusion...
There are way toooooo many binary enhanced ROMS and they need a special place... coz of those ROMS, the real development gets kinda hidden under..
I personally dont like such ROMS but many people do... so they deserve their own place...
Division will be a great thing...
Mods, look into this n please dont just lock down this thread after some days...

Make a poll for all who agree with you
Yup,even I was thinking so
Development section is so messy at the moment
I agree, I do like new things but there are to many themed roms with many scripts thrown in that exist in other roms. A way to clean up the thread is to do what was suggested in first post...unfortunately you have a few indivuals who think modifying the framework, adding a new theme and 50 scripts makes those roms something new to our devices. Wish I had a damn computer capable of actually building from source..I'd definitely be helping lupohirp or arjen with cm9/ICS..if there's an actual developer here who can fix camera exposures on nightlies than I'd definitely enjoy that

To add to what I said it would be nice if the the entire thread was revamped and shows thread based on subject..ie games, apps, mods, kernels based on either 35 or 32,maybe threads based on different scripts. A thread specifically for rom changelogs and discussion threads for original android roms and themed roms. I truly believe that any rom is a product of development .You just have actual roms based from source and some based from official noghtlies

I think users need a guideline to where there roms go. This is what I think:
a) All roms built from source or from scratch truly belong in the development section.
b) All roms that are themed or based off of another rom (including binary ports) belong in another section (for now all we have is the themes and apps section, so that is where they should go).
I will use an analogy to explain why I think binary ports should not be mixed in with roms under a):
Binary ports are just like books with a cover from another book. It looks totally different on the outside, but it is pretty much the same thing on the inside (this may not be the best analogy, but you get the idea).
Although the effort is appreciated, it is sad to see people thinking that adding scripts and themes to a rom makes it totally developed from scratch (what's worse is that they claim it is faster without showing any evidence or proof). At least know where you are supposed to post.
Guys, If you agree, please take time to vote in the poll

Well, you cant say all binary ports are like that...
Take for example the sense port... its truly a complicated port... it consists editing of libs n stuff...
While all those Chinese ROMS are nothing but copy-paste of frameworks from original ROM to our nightlies...
That makes them so bugless...
There should be another section for such ports like those chinese/MIUIv4 ROMS, while complicated ports stay in dev thread along with source compiled roms...
At the Moment, Here are Truely developed ROMS:
1. CM9
2. Oxygen
3. CM7
4. Sense port
5. OMGB/OMFGB by Bytecode
6. mik_os's CM7
7. void #forever
8. CyanogenMMatt
9. Code Name Android
10. Phoenix ROM
11. AOSP Gingerbread
12. Bytecode's CM6
13. Arjens Eclair port
(I guess i forgot some?)
These deserve to be in Development thread!

Is it possible to port the Gingerbread MIUI over to the Aria? or even just the notification pulldown?
Cm7 is gingerbread ... look through the themes and apps threads and I think there is a theme for 2.2 if you don't want to flash cm7.. you may need cm6 though, I can't remember

CM7 is a Gingerbread Android OS based off AOSP.
However, MIUI... is MIUI; different ROMs. He's not asking for CM7.
As far as MIUI is concerned, you could try.

You CAN however, try to make it look like MIUI. The analog clock, the icons..ect.
Funny that you ask... I'm actually trying but I really don't know what I'm doing
Idk why i completely looked over the miui part lol... they ported it to the nexus one, the nexus s, the hd2, and the milestone, I don't see why it wouldn't be able to be ported to the aria either, it would be fantastic if it was

Yeah and its only running on armv7 devices too. I think that's a big issue too.
I was really just testing out the ROM kitchen and seeing how much of a port it could do.
I also tried porting a hero froyo ROM (another gsm armv6 device) and apparently I am not smart enough to figure it out yet.
yeah porting is....yeah

I was just looking for that thread! I couldn't remember who it was and was wanting to ask them how they managed to get it booted. I guess a mod must have deleted "dead" threads because I was looking for the cm6 build with fm radio for the floyo hero port and couldn't find it either :/
If it was just some dragging and dropping or editing some text files I could probably handle it. Or possibly if I knew what a tmp boot.img was... or status 0... or status 7...
You devs simply amaze me.
And since I'm already rambling.... has any one ever, or is it even possible to, build an aosp ROM from source for the liberty?
Yeah, MIUI is cool but the HDPI/MDPI thing and the ARMv6 kills chances of getting a port. Oh well. I love CM.
An AOSP ROM would be too close to CM for most people/devs to put the time in, in my opinion.

just as a future "reference," it is not .35 baseband.
when you say .35, you are referring to the kernel. the baseband is an entirely different thing

Old Baseband only. Nnew will be supported when I will have more time.

like I said, these are two separate things:
regarding the baseband: in simple terms, the baseband controls your phone's cellular radio. the new baseband gives you a better signal than the old baseband.
when you flash a rom, you must keep in mind whether or not the rom supports the baseband you have. most of the roms we have now support only the old baseband.
if you flash a rom that does not support your current baseband, you will not have gsm or data, meaning you will not be connected to your carrier, which also means you cannot send/receive calls, messages, etc.
regarding the kernel: my understanding is that the kernel sits between your applications and your phone's hardware, affecting mainly performance and battery life. the kernel you have must be supported by the kernel that your rom supports. a 2.6.32.xx kernel can only be used on a 2.6.32.xx-based rom. a 2.6.35.xx kernel can only be used on a 2.6.35.xx rom. the thread of the rom should specify this

.35 is refer to kernel
baseband is not kernel
kernel is part of ROM act as a bridge between software and hardware (it's use linux kernel)
baseband is part of ROM which responsible for your GSM signal and DATA

I'm liking Mik's port, but having the new baseband would be fantastic. I was using the new one while I ran GingerLOL, and now that I've downgraded to use CM7, the call audio is much worse and I'm getting no bars in places I had at least two before. Not that I'm complaining mind you, if I had to choose I'd stay with CM7 and the old baseband. But it would be great if Mik finally made that fix.
Guys...Thread is going away from the main topic....
Main thing is what o1 users can do to contact cyanogen team & o1 developers??
Maybe we can collect names?
I'm sure that they would listen to us if we have 1000 names in a message from mik and andy!
So everyone, write your name in a reply on this thread!
Maybe we can make a post in development section?

my name is out here, i dont developing for CM7, my rom's are a mix of AOSP, CAF, CM7,
many fixes/improvents from android over the world and a lot of my own ideas.
So, from my side no support for a pure CM7 - i hope users are not sad about that.
The reason is simple: CM7 has a very nice and big community, but they are integrating
almost every compatible device - and the code to support all these devices isnt
splitted, so in the feature you have a "SuSE" or "RedHat" on your phone with many
useless code. If they begin to split the code, integrate more AOSP and CAF code i'm
ready and code together.

Hi there guys,
I just read about Android 4.0,released today. As I promised from june,I wil try to port it to you guys (even because I'm not working at any project now).
The first alpha will be available in few days (if all goes well),maybe one week. I already got the SDK dump,so i could try to make it boot, but I prefer using sources. BTW,when CyanogenMod 9 will be released(CM8 is some crappy Honeycomb),I'll make CM9 port.
EDIT: I can't make the SDK boot. Libs are built from ARMv7,but we're ARMv6. So wait for sources to be released.
SOME INFOS:
ROM will be based on .32 kernel tree, then I'll switch to .35
Nothing in mind now.
Current status: Planning to download sources. I need to ask some help too, because I don't know for good this AOSP stuff. Will probably ask to lupohirp

What? ICS is for tablets as well as phones. I don't see any reason for it to look bad because of a small screen size.
I've been playing around with ICS in the emulator, and I've been wondering what the advantages will be for us over Gingerbread.
The UI overhaul seems nice enough, though ICS seems to be designed for devices with no hardware menu button. In the native apps included, there is a bar at the bottom which has buttons that were normally hidden and accessed by the menu button.
This basically means we'll be losing screen space in ICS, unless this bar can be hidden for devices that do have a dedicated menu button, though I couldn't find the option in the emulator.
The ram usage is more than double that of Gingerbread (45MB vs 98MB). Luckily our O1 phones will be able to manage this fine (mine is currently using 159MB, with 243MB free) but for other phones the upgrade is going to render them useless.
The big problem is going to be the sheer size of ICS. In the Gingerbread emulator the system.img is 89MB but for ICS it is 167MB. Which is of course the bare minimum for the emulator, 'real' Android with Gapps etc is bigger. CM7.1 takes up 154MB of the 190MB /system partition on my phone. To get ICS on our O1 we'll probably have to do some partition resizing, which means a smaller /data partition for our installed apps.

Oh well, we'll have to wait and see how CM team is gonna handle the buttons on the screen.

The last few weeks I've talked to many of you about a little project I was lucky to be involved in with a good friend of mine, Tonekneeo, and I promised you guys I would keep you updated.
Rather than trying to reply to each PM and remember which gtalk people asked me about it, I decided to kill a whole bunch of birds with one stone.
This rom is sense 3.6 based but it's designed from the ground up to be run as sense, senseless, and with the MIUI style launcher, depending on the kind of mood you're in. It's a really clean little lean and mean rom that has amazing performance and get's me the best battery life I've seen on my rezound even though I've been tethering. The eye candy and theming is gorgeous in my opinion, a sophisticated yet fun theme that I find very classy in the base version and he's rolling out custom theming constantly so there's still several colors yet to come.

Tone has a lot of projects in the works and I'll be helping out with the development as he teaches me the tricks of the trade, so feedback is always appreciated.
Giving it a shot now

AWESOME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Heya Charlie! Nice work, keep it up. Downloading now and probably run this as my daily. Will see what I can do about getting you a themed SGS3 Launcher(think its called SecLauncher2.apk) to add in also (if you want?).
JSYK, there's a separate forum for ROMs
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1392
1) Data Arrows Working?
2) For those who installed it, how does it run compared to CleanROM Pro?
3) What ICS Leak is it based off of?
Great to see something different, nice work..
glad to see there is another thing for me to flash thank you

yeah, but if he's not supporting it over here, then not good to put it in the dev section.

Data arrows are working. It's based off of the 5/7 leak I believe unless something has just changed. Tone will be doing another rom based on the newest leak and I'm sure once it's ready for main stream we will create more rom threads and such.
I'm good with it being moved but I really don't think this is for the development section. I'm not the developer and I'm not creating a rom thread or supporting the rom. I don't think the development section should be crapped up with general information like this.
How about gsm? Can be a fully gsm ?

Will this screw up or compliment this rom?

This rom IS smooth! We'll see how it does for battery life, just took it off the charger!

Thanks. CleanROM runs pretty well for me right now, and I absolutely HATE HATE HATE reromming and setting everything back up. That's one of the reasons I love CM9 so much... I can update and not wipe out everything I've done.
I'll give this a try once it's updated to the newest leak, or whatever version ends up being the final ICS update.
Do you plan on having a senseless version?
this rom is sweeet! It really should go in the dev section!

I think the whole point is to have choice on the same rom (rosie, miui and senseless)

It is senseless, but it has the rosie launcher as an option which I like. Just don't expect much of the sense widgets to be there, most are removed.
This rom definitely deserves more attention. This is with the stock battery. I used wifi basically the whole time but look at that screen time!!

While I realize a lot of the differences may be obvious it would be nice to have a summarized version of how these ROMs (PA, PAC, AOKP, Slim, Carbon etc) for people who are switching from CyanogenMod (because of the recent changes that are making some people unhappy).
Because it sometimes looks to me like they are all just trying to play catch-up with each other and there is not a whole lot of difference there.
Firstly, these are all AOSP based roms, not necessarily CM based.
Second, I just saw this article from Android Authority:

Hi Everyone...did a little thread cleaning and closing. Please try not to argue with each other.
Thanks to Deveron3 for the great answer. I just wanted to add that this question is probably more suited for the Q&A forum for a specific device. There will be a huge amount a variability from one device to another with some very well supported devices having more than 1 CM, PA or whatever, while other devices may not have all of these or the ones they have may not be fully functional or up-to-date.
Thanks
