I wanna know if anyone else has this issue or not when click an app like a game it takes up to 10 seconds for it to run and after exiting sometimes the main screen is very delayed and sometimes unresponsive when scrolling left and right. I also have an issue of the phone not wanting to switch back to 4g if in 3g or 1x just stuck until I reboot or restart it. Wanna know if I should get this one replaced or not. Also GPS is horrible never accurate. It say in running little kids on the sidewalk over constantly or running threw people house. I have factory data restored it but same problem. Need to know if I need new one?

It does happen. Try a different kernel or over clocking.
this happens to me occasionally, usually only when the battery is hot/doing a LOT of things at once. (meaning when i'm charging and using pandora over bluetooth, wireless tether, and waze at once) the phone lags up so much that when i press the home button, the haptic vibrate stays on for about 3 seconds.... this is when i know that its happening - and i'll just pull the battery...
If you're running stock & it's been like that since day one, you might consider exchanging it. If you're running a custom rom/kernel, reflash & leave it at default settings for a few days & see if the problems resolve

I've never had the lag issue you speak of, however, the gps issue I have seen, but has been fixed in recent custom roms and will be addressed in the update. If you are on stock, you might want to just wait it out for 9 more days till the OTA rolls out. If you are using a custom rom/kernel combo, what are you using?

I also forgot to mention that i'm on BAMF 1.8 with the kernel that it comes with.
If your rooted, i'd recommend unchecking your "set at boot" and profiles in SetCPU, reboot, and see if it continues. As said above, if unrooted... a call to verizon may be in order.
My phone is not rooted every phone I have rooted besides like 2 I have bricked. But yeah I don't get why they didn't run this stupid phone a dule core. I got to play with a phone that had a dule core and response is so amazing.
Then you should take it back to verizon & exchange it for another. Your Tbolt shouldn't be like that out of the box. I've never had GPS issues, even on stock it would lock within a few seconds. And dual core is overrated unless you have apps that actually take advantage of it (not many). No wonder you were impressed with dual core phones lol. My mildly overclocked Tbolt runs Sense just as fluidly as any Atrix runs MotoBlur

Okay thanks I have been looking for an excuse to tell them basterds off.
I apologize if this thread is a tad redundant, but I believe it goes beyond your run-of-the-mill glitches that one might post about in the ICS Bugs thread.
I got my OTA upgrade about 10 days ago, and since then my RAZR has been utterly useless.
The biggest problem is an obvious issue with power management. With GB I used to get almost a full day of heavy use. Now I get 2 hours, 3 if I'm lucky. I often find that the phone is extremely hot, as if the processor and radios are running at 100% for no reason.
Perhaps worse than that, it takes infinitely longer to charge than it used to. As in, 5+ hours to go from 0% to 100% -- and that's while the phone is powered off. Powered on, it'll take even longer.
I've experienced issues with almost every app, and with some I've had literally no success whatsoever. Facebook freezes half of the time before even loading up. The stock Browser will freeze a few times a day. Alarm Clock Xtreme freezes whenever I try to edit an alarm. Neither the stock Gallery nor third-party image apps will load up any of my photos without freezing. Google Talk won't initiate video chats. The list goes on and on.
Moreover, the phone will often just freeze outright. Sometimes the screen won't light up, regardless of how many times I press the power button. Sometimes the phone gets stuck on the home screen, and responds to nothing. Sometimes the phone becomes unresponsive, although pressing the capacitive buttons still triggers haptic feedback. Because of this, several times a day I just hold power+down to shut it off the hard way.
At this point, I actually avoid using it. It's that useless. It's more burdensome than it is helpful. It sucks because, when it's working, everything is really smooth and the ICS interface is really cool. I can tell it would be awesome, if only it worked.
Has anyone experienced such madness as this?
FYI, I'm running:
Android version 4.0.4
System version 6.16.211.XT912.Verizon.en.US
Baseband version CDMA_N_05.11.01PLTEDC_U_09.11.00
Kernel version 3.0.8-g29cf5e7, [email protected] #1
Build number 6.7.2-180_DHD-16_M4-31
I can't believe they would release something so unstable.
And yes I've gone into recovery and wiped the cache partition several times to no avail.
I admit there are some issues with the battery and heat and bugs, but i have not experienced any freezing with the stock browser or any program really, alarm clock extreme and it works for me, I don't use the Facebook app often but the few times i have, no real issues sometimes it lags trying to update. I will say thay the market SUCKS or play whatever they call it. Maybe you got a corrupt OTA file or something is wrong with your update installation. Maybe try doing a factory reset, i know that sucks to do but i do it before every OTA and im not really experiencing any of the software issues you are experiencing. If that doesn't help, root it and use the razr 1.7 utility to reinstall the system files.
Did you try to wipe the device (factory default)? It helped in my case.

ICS is very different from GB, and Motonverizola tried really hard to get ICS to play well with existing GB cache data and GB settings. All of that stuff changed a LOT.
The problem isn't ICS: the problem is data conversion from GB to ICS.
Wipe the cache and dalvik. If that doesn't get it, then do a factory reset and set everything up again.
Mine runs for days with light use (1-3 hours a day), or a day+ with heavy use. It doesn't get hot, unless you mean that the other way. But that'd be kinda creepy.
Hi
This is my first post here at this forum and I'm not a Razr user but thinking about getting the Maxx because of it's hardware and big battery which fits my usage of a smartphone, I have a Galaxy S right now.
I have looked at some of the posts and screenshots of the battery usage on the new leaked/released ICS for the Razr and read about complains about the short lived battery and the devices that overheat, well, we had the same problem when GB has been released to the Galaxy S and that is all related to the Android OS app that is using the battery because it's got into a loop, this will not get fixed unless you make Motorola aware of the problem. I could be wrong but I think that is related to the dalvik-machine. Android OS should be using around a single-digit of the battery of all time (3%-7%), we don't have this issue anymore since Samsung fixed this bug in the later releases of GB firmwares.
A temporary fix of the Android OS is to reboot the phone when you can see that it's hijacking the battery, this is until Motorola fixes the issue.
I wish you all good luck and hope that you will get a better firmware soon.
Its always good practice to start fresh when accepting an update that big. Less variables = less problems.....
Id do a factory reset and start from scratch... that sux... i know, but so does a useless phone
Ics def wasnt all the hype.... but its also not that bad... just gotta start clean.
Good luck!
Complete disaster? How is it a disaster compared to my update? After the update I could no longer receive text messages, Consider the fact that I send a receive hundreds of text messages per day this is honestly the biggest cause of outrage I have with a flagship that can't perform even what a Nokia 6280 could, when I finally receive texts they come in 4 hours late and worse still, in DUPLICATES and I can't seem to find any solution to this as of yet. A factory reset fixes this for an hour at best but the problem suffices after that. Does anyone have a SOLUTION to this? Honestly driving me nuts
I agree with most others... do a factory reset. I always do after a major upgrade (and ICS is a major upgrade!)
Then check what apps you are putting on the machine; some cause issues. For instance, I put the new Starbucks 2.0 app upgrade on my phone yesterday - consumed battery like mad, phone ran hot (like cook-an-egg-on-it hot), runaway processes, etc. Turns out it was the new Starbucks app; after removing it the phone ran normal.
Otherwise I love ICS! So try the cache wipe; and if that doesn't help then do a factory reset and reinstall things. Takes time, but it saves in the long run.
Wow, this is crazy to hear. My update has been flawless but I did a factory reset after getting it. I bet if you did that it would fix 99% of your problems.
I also rooted after and now I'm running a cm9 rom. This is the best my phone has ever run.
Ultimately, even if you don't root you can fix most of these problems with a factory reset.

Hold down the Home button to see what's running, download a task manager to see what's dominating the CPU. The phone won't get hot by itself, something is using up the CPU (like you said) if you don't want to factory reset you've got to figure out what it is. Rooting and setting the CPU governor to hotplug will save quite a bit in battery (shuts the 2nd core off when not needed).
I'm on a Canadian leak, the first day battery performance was terrible. By the 4th day, the battery lasted longer than GB
I concur with everyone here about the factory reset.
As other's have mentioned, going from GB to ICS is a major overhaul. I've read elsewhere what this really entails and it's not pretty. Suffice it to say, I backed up all my user apps and data (using Titanium Backup), saved off all other things that were on my internal SD card just to be safe and then applied the OTA update in stock recovery, wiped data and cache and rebooted. I then rooted, installed Safestrap and flashed Eclipse ICS v1.2 RC1 and restored my apps with TiBu.
I also tried stock ROM as well and restored my apps via TiBu.
In both cases, no performance issues nor forced closes. Runs like a champ.
I'm running the latest .214 leak and my battery life has improved over .211.
.214
Razr Maxx
I was having shorter battery life with the ICS .211 build and then updated to .214
My battery life is way better then it ever was with GB or ICS .211
I ran it the other day for 36hrs and 3 of it actually talking on the phone and had 20% battery life left.
It has currently been on for 4hrs 6 min and is at 90%. light email and phone use. I do have an IMAP email account that poles every 10 minutes with push for instant updates.
Mine is running fine after simple reboot
I am getting great battery life and my Razr Maxx is working almost flawlessly after the ICS OTA stock update. I just rebooted it shortly after the update when it was running hot and haven't had any problems since.
If .214 is even better, great.
Looking forward to Jelly Bean to get even more from my device.
Jeff
Was on the soak test and had the same battery problems. Only way to fix was via a factory reset. This did however fix all the problems.

Thanks for the replies everyone.
As mentioned I have tried booting into recovery and clearing the cache, but it doesn't help.
Some have suggested wiping the dalvik cache. However I don't see that as an option in the recovery menu. Do I need to root to have that option? Excuse my newness to this.
Worst case I guess I'll just have to do a factory reset

I know this has been mentioned in a few threads already, but it made such a difference for me I felt as if it should be on the front page, at least for a bit.
After I reset and manually reinstalled my apps from the market it's like I bought a new tablet. No lag, no anr, stock browser performs almost like the browser on my beastly gaming pc, games all work with much better frame rates. Everything is just so SMOOTH. I can even use the thing like normal when installing huge games from the market and not even notice its multitasking. All this with no tweaks of any kind.
Obviously YMMV but I can't recommend a reset highly enough from my own experience.
I'm gonna factory reset once I can get root and back up my apps

Yeah I kind of wish I still had root, but to be honest apart from ad blocking it only really used it to apply much needed tweaks, which I don't seem to need ny more.
Also, I I read in another thread someone managed to restore root on JB after a reset, going to try that tonight and I'll report back.
Yeah, I was able to restore root (I was rooted from ICS before the upgrade and factory reset). I think if you are able to get a root prompt from adb shell you will be able to restore. I used the debugfs method, it gave me a number of error messages during the process but by the end I had root again.
Happy days

I lost root but it was worth it (lost root during the upgrade and couldn't get it back anyway). Non-rooted JB after the factory reset is far smoother than 4.03 with root. It is a good trade off and I'm assuming someone will figure out how to root again anyway.

Project Butter. Google it. Understand.
I'd say to play around with it more before giving your final verdict, that's why I Ended up with a custom rom
I've factory resetted plenty of times but browsing doesn't perform as fluid as my og razr
I second this - my experience was
ICS to JB = not bad
Factory reset JB via JB 3x but did not wait too long between each reset = Slower I/O scores via benchmarks
BUT
Factory reset via Volume down and power - loaded to Home screen (but not setting up anything) and waited 1 hour with screen turned on, WIFI off and performance.
Then setup = Faster I/O scores via benchmarks by about 10 secs and after 3 days I really think it is now faster than it was - ALL STOCK.
Can't wait for root method - as I would like to try some of the tweeks to see if I can put the PRIME just a little bit more...
Overall very happy - but I was before!

While I don't notice improvements in the responsiveness (it was already fine for me), doing a factory reset after JB update solved annoying FC of the stock gallery and the stock camera apps.

My prime is running so poorly. I get many FC and things are not smooth. Multi-tasking is impossible. Browsers take forever to launch and load previous tabs. I hate to start over... but I'm getting to the point where I think it's for the best. My butter is more like molasses on a cold Wyoming morning.
After the update to JB I have a lot of spontanious reboots.
Maybe I should try a factory reset....
I'm also considering doing a factory reset...
So just to be clear, I'm not rooted and from a data/application/settings loss perspective, what do I need to make sure I have backed up? All my apps / widgets will re-install upon reset I assume, but what about my settings and files?
when i hold the power+vol down, i see: RCK android usb data wipe. what am i suppose to do from there?
I factory reset my Prime a week or so before JB, and when I installed JB, there wasn't much installed. Is it still worth the factory reset?
I've installed plenty of apps and games, hate to have to reset and re install everything again. Does a factory reset make it like CM10 speeds on the HTC One X like this video : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H_eFGpET3dc ?

Running Sho3. Was running fine, then yesterday started noticing screen time out wasn't working (set to 30 seconds like always). The screen still dims like when your not touching it for a couple seconds, but then it stays like that. Tried reflashing, wiping etc. I pulled the battery and that worked, but then just noticed I got a text and it stayed on, checked the browser and same thing, won't time out (but still dims).
I'm stumped... and this is annoying as I gotta keep manually doing it which I don't since not used to that all these years lol, so battery keeps draining faster.

Tried a reflash with a new download, worked perfect yesterday. Then this morning it was still working, got a text, and now screen time out doesn't work again (doubt it's text related as a I got a ton yesterday and had no probs).
Flashed AJs kernel to see if there was a difference but screen time out still doesn't work. I've searched and searched on XDA and no clue what the issue could be, the only threads about this are the normal fixes that are common sense (uncheck something etc).

This is not a rom issue. Best guess, from a distance of course, is that some installed app is at fault. Have you flashed back to stock to verify that the problem goes away? You would need to wipe and install stock without any additional apps to be sure.
If it works normally on stock, then go back and wipe data/factory reset and install Sho3 without reinstalling anything, and see if you have the problem. That will tell you if it's an app.
Also you can turn off the screen turn on when you get a text option in messaging. May help.

Yeh I had tried that and it seemed fine (then again Sho3 runs fine and then out of nowhere like a day or two later the screen won't time out), but the odd thing is all the apps I have are the apps I normally use. Checking wakelocks etc, everything seems a-ok, nothing unusual. I've always ran Sho's roms. Haven't downloaded any new app's, only 1 in the last month (Scramble), had installed that to re-check but the issue still happened, don't run widgets either.
I've did find a few threads as well as searching online about people having similar problems and looks like nobody could figure this out as a fix was never given. Seems to be all JB users though reporting this, especially with GSIII where even turning off stay awake etc doesn't help, some said they just had to keep rebooting the phones or hard reset removing the battery but that's only temporary fix.

OK wtf LOL... I always actually keep that off as it's useless to me. But I just checked and it was on, but I know I had it off with Jeboo, AJs must have turned it back on?
This looks to of fixed the problem, I don't know why since this is a text setting, but I could of been in the browser, email, game, music, even the lock screen and it would stay on.... no clue how that option in text affects everything???
I'll update if any changes but as of now turned it off and screen timed out when I opened the browser and left as is.
thanks!
Np man, glad you got it fixed
If anyone is experiencing this problem, I hope the following steps may help.
I would like to express my appreciation to XDA members, who have commended and helped out with this. Credits go to @LordManhattan and @abuihsan . Many thanks for your help.
1/ Do a re-flash: I always thought my device was a c6802, after I flashed c6833, it helped.
2/ Do a factory reset/ Cache wipe/ Dalvik Wipe/ in recovery or in the phone settings.
3/ Install SD-Maid and clean the mess from the programs, also take a look at APPCONTROL to see which is running. You can freeze it here.
4/ Install Performance control to Underclock your CPU. Believe me, 1.7Ghz is far too enough for all the tasks you need.
5/ Use more pwerful tool, like Titanium Backup to stop all the backgound-running apps. You just need to leave the one which were in GREEN color.
6/ Use Wakelock Detector to see which apps get your phone out of deepsleep. Mostly they are Facebook and Messenger. My advice: Disable Facebook notice and if you don't use chat quite often, don't install facebook messenger.
Hope these help.
Personally I had tried a lot of methods, including checking the processes and re-insert the memory card but no such helps. Therefore, if you need any advice or any comments, feel free to send me an PM or reply here, I will gladly help you out, like what the community had helped me our of my situation.
Hi everyone,
Recently I just bought a ZU from a local vendor here. It runs 4.2.2 with no problem. However, I want to get rid of the *new system update* and I also want to use the xperia Themes, I decided to upgrade to 4.3.
My phone model is C6802, and I chose the file here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2453921
The upgrade went through fast and smooth, as I had experienced in many Sony devices.
However, after getting to 4.3, I had noticed some problems as follow:
+ Heat: Device heats up very fast, even left alone. Just imagine you have the phone on 100% battery lying on your table, a moment later it heats up and the battery drops dramatically.
+ Battery drop: Just as mentioned above, the battery drops quickly. I do not expect extreme battery life on this device, but since 4.3, it is too low, I can barely make it to 6 hours without doing anything consuming battery.
+ Process: When checking the battery, I notice that most of the process that takes up battery is Android OS, which nearly 50-60%. I use the phone frequently to answer SMS and call, sometimes play games. I think that the most used applications should be the bad-ass screen?
I am running on the 14.2.A.0.290 with R4B.
Anyone had experienced this problem before, or know a solution to fix? Will clearing the Dalvik Cache help? I had re-flash several times but the problem is still there.
Many thanks in advance.

Sounds like somethings has gone wrong in the update process.
Have you tried backing up all your data and doing a factory reset?
I do not think clearing Dalvik will help you here, sounds like something else is acting up. You could try to install one of the apps designed to detect what is causing the wakelock.
I'm not at my Android tablet at the moment, but I think I used this when I had this problems myself on my Galaxy Note: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.uzumapps.wakelockdetector

First of all, thanks for your reply and suggestion.
I had tried to flash the roms multiple times, but the problem still exists. Furthermore, I even flash back to 4.2.2 and the problem is still there. The phone heats up slowly and battery runs out pretty fast.
I had installed the Wakelock Detector on my device and I will update the situation tomorrow, I will leave it there for a night and see the status tomorrow.
Did you wipe after updating? I had the same issue when i updated to 4.3.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but as long as he's been downgraded to 4.2.2 again, he'd have to wipe. At least that is how it was on my Xperia Z.

this might not be related, but I've been noticing much worse battery life today than normal! i normally only drop about 50% in 24 hours, but today I've dropped 30% in just a few hours. Android OS seems to be doing it...
no real heat issue tho, maybe slightly warmer from whatever the OS is doing, but nothing too major. running stock rooted 4.3
had that on my Xperia Z on a 4.1 or 4.2 build (dunno which one). Sounds strange, but simply turning off the sync fixed the problem, give it a try .
Hope it also helps on your XZU.

At first I did not choose to wipe Data in Flashtool, then I flashed again, this time I checked everything.
the problem still exists.
UPDATE:
Yesterday after working hours, I had rooted and installed BetterBatteryStats, Performance Control to monitor the system. I also had WaveLockDetector and Titanium Backup installed.
It appeared that the CPU runs all the time, in the highest state (2.15 Ghz), the phone never goes to DeepSleep and Awake all the time.
On Performance control, I had underclocked the CPU to 1.5Ghz and the temperature seems to be cooler.
I had tried to freeze a lot of applications via Titanium backup but so such luck.
Still researching.
However, many thanks to your kind replies. At least I know that I'm not alone with this problem :good:

I ever had no deep sleep problem with 4.3, even in stamina and airplane mode, and with location-off too, I checked with BBS and found the 'trigger' is a process under google now app. I use GREENIFY and get the google now hybernated. Everything fines now and I still can use google now as it only hybernated when not in use : )

hey, thanks for your reply. I did the same to you, even with Titanium backup to ensure this will never shows up again, but CPU keeps throtlling at 100%. I still can not find an answer to this 100% thing. now the phone is quite hot in my pocket, I decided to put in my bag and even turn off to keep it from heating.
I will try another rom and update.

do you use any cleaner/task killer app? before trying other rom or update, maybe you need to uninstall it, reboot recovery and wipe cache and see the result.
I don't know if this is relevance but while using greenify I also uninstall the previous cleaner app and replace with another one that I think is better.
now my c6833 has great deep sleep.

Hi, Thanks again for your advice.
Would you please give me the name of the cleaner apps that you think are way better?
Are you running on 4.3 stock or on some modified roms?

The thing is, you don't need a task killer/cleaner app. It was useful way back on Android 2.1/2.3, but you shouldn't use it at all on 4.0+. You're actually making things worse.
mine has been heating up as well. the battery isn't draining like how yours is, but any kind of use will heat the top back side of the phone. I checked and after killing all apps, my cpu load was still around 65%. is that normal? no custom flash here. locked bootloader. updated through pcc normally. I'd imagine this is why 4.3 isn't running as buttery smooth like everyone else.

No, that's not normal. Mine's around 20-30 degress celsius (depending on what i'm doing). Even streaming 1080p videos shouldn't make it hot or even mildly hot. When i had the heating problem, two cores would always be stuck at 2150 MHz. Now one core is active at 960 MHz when the screen is on. CPU load is around 20 and 60% (single core). Temperature is currently at 26 degrees. Also, stop killing apps and processes. Most of them are set to start automatically, so when you kill them over and over again, they'll start again and they'll use even more battery. Android is built to manage resources very well on its own, and it's not operating like Windows or any other computer OS. Just leave it alone unless something has gone rouge and you don't have a choice.
I'm on stock 290, rooted and extremely debloated.
- Current battery level: 88%
- Current uptime: 3 h 30 min
- Current screentime: 1 hour (browsing etc.)

hmm... yea that sounds like the problem i am having. im noticing two cores stuck at 2150mhz with a third kicking in here and there. how were you able to fix it? just a fresh install of .290?
so as far as the apps go, i have Du Battery Saver installed and the "optimize" button is supposed to clear up some of the background junk. are you saying that i should leave the optimize button alone and just let android figure itself out?

What i'm saying is that you should uninstall that crappy app. Task killers were useful three years ago when Android devices had slow processors and low amount of RAM. What you're doing now is killing everything everytime you tap that button. WHY do you want to do that? What's the point of having 2GB of RAM when you don't want to use it? Are you always killing processes on your computer too? Would you do it if your computer had 32GB of RAM with 30GB available? Unused RAM is wasted RAM. Android is a modern OS that can handle this on its own. If you only have 300MB RAM left and you want to play Asphalt 8 which requires (i'm guessing) 500MB RAM, Android will find the oldest and less frequently used process and kill it. It's that easy.
You can read more about it here and here.

I think it'll be a little easier if you tell us what you've done till now. We have no idea what you've tried and not tried.

ok. so I haven't done anything at all to remedy the situation. I figured I'd ask about it before messing it up myself. I upgraded to .290 via pcc. it updated fine with no errors. once it was done updating, it was hot and battery was diminished. I had seen on another thread that most people had that happened so I didn't see it as an issue, just a side effect of the update process.
I have been checking back to see if anyone was having heating issues with 4.3 after the update and didn't hear about it until I had seen this thread. the OP stated he flashed .290 on his 6802 and is rooted. I am not, so I wasn't sure if the steps he was taking were the same given my 6833 being completely stock.
