is this phone worth it coming from a galaxy nexus user?
both phones are really great...
Galaxy nexus
-4,65 screen
-ships with ICS
-not the best camera
-aosp
-big community
-developer friendly
Xperia s
-4,3 screen
-ships with GB
-very nice camera
-Sonys UXP NEXT UI
-smaller comunity than galaxy nexus
-ships with locked bootloader
-playstation certifieced
Also to mention, the galaxy nexus has a faster CPU but the Xperia S has the faster GPU.
It really depends on what you want, i would not say one of the phones is better.

Hmmmm. Are you stock on nexus? And if u a flashcoholic nope. There is lots and lots of thing u can play around with nexus that the xperia can't cause I dont think it would get that much or little dev support like the nexus have. I have both active. Verizon and att(xperia) I like both. Xperia screen better tho. Colors lot more close to real life. Super amoled always amplifies colors. Xperia screen beautiful. Camera on the xperia blows away the gnex camera not only gnex ill say anything out there untill the one x and s comes out. Battery is pretty good. Better than gnex. But again if ur gnex rooted and running dif roms u have great options for good batery like BAMF. Thats the best rom I've tried. You'll be more unique with xperia and phone doesn't lag like the arc. Xperia s fast ...nfc here too.

few corrections:
its difficult to compare which CPU is better between the OMAP4460 & Snapdragon S3...
also SE/Sony allows OFFICIAL bootloader unlocking (if device is not network locked)
my suggestion:
just use both the devices urself, see how comfortable u are with each one and buy the one which u personally like...
remember there is ALWAYS a better phone which will be released in a few weeks time so when u buy ur new phone its already "old-generation"/"outdated"

Hi.
I'm going to change my Android phone (a LG Optimus 2x) and I have to choose between these 3 candidates: Samsung Galaxy Nexus, Sony Xperia S and HTC One S.
After looking at the specs of all of them, I think this is like:
- CPU: One S > Galaxy Nexus ~= Xperia S
- GPU: One S > Xperia S > Galaxy Nexus
- Storage: Xperia S > Galaxy Nexus ~= One S
- Camera: After looking at some reviews, I don't dare to say anything. One S looked pretty good, Xperia S looked pretty good too (the best video recorder I'd say), and Galaxy Nexus didn't look bad at all (but in dark photos in interiors).
The CPU is important to me (I like my phone to work smoothly), GPU is not so important, storage is not very important (I prefer higher speed than higher capacity), and camera is not important too (I take a few photos, but that doesn't mean I don't care if the phone has a crappy camera).
I hope you can help me choosing
Thanks!
personally, i would choose the one s.
I love the new sense 4 ui and i think it's the one which will work more smoothly.

Totally agree!!! ONE S! ownage!! but,[yeah] xperia S pretty good too heee~~~..
HTC One S is pretty good. The Qualcomm S4 is very powerful (more than Xperia's S3), the Adreno 225 is pretty good too, and the One S has more recent hardware than Xperia (like the bt module).
I've seen some benchmarks about the One S internal storage (NAND) and it's pretty fast, specially reading, and that's good.
I forgot to say in the first post but Android 4.0 for me is very important (I know the Xperia S will be updated soon), and I'll use this phone a lot to code apps.
At the moment, I would say the ranking is:
1º HTC One S
2º Galaxy Nexus
3º Xperia S
Thanks for your replies!
Is there any noticeable difference between the GNexus and One S screens? I ask it because of the different (but similar) resolutions (nexus has higher res but higher size too) and I could not see both phones powered on.

Well i havent tried One S,but i have to say i tried Galaxy Nexus and its amazing, great specs, great design and its flagship phone so its going to be supported by xda and google for some time.I cant describe how good impression of that phone i have, its amazing
If you want to use custom roms and root, I'd recommend you the nexus. It's community is good and you don't have to bother about hboot, s-on, s-off and so on.
You should look at Something Quad-Core, such as: HTC One X, Huawei Ascend D Quad, Huawei Ascend D Quad XL, ZTE Era, etc. Which would be better.

I prefer a powerful dual core than a quad core (except if that quad core has very powerful cores, to work at best performance at any workload). A quad core in a smartphone, from my point of view (as a computer engineer), is not worth, at the moment (more battery usage, not so efficient...).
I'm a coder so I'll use the phone to test my apps. And I like to 'play' with it (custom roms and stuff... I used to code stuff for the Linux kernel).
One S

And also used to code for the Wii
i'll go with the HTC One S
i'll go with xperia s because the camera is damn good...
i think about future Custom Rom that can be apply on it since freexperia teams are working greatly to build it.
more over, the battery for xperia s quiet good
im sorry if im mistaken..
Hi,
As subject says.
I am having right now white xperia mini pro But i am planning to buy Xperia U. Should I buy???
would u suggest to buy? if not may u would lik to tell my why
I will be really thankful if u help me, i m really confused
The only real differences are the Software and the design.
My mom got an Xperia U and it's really awesome, the only downsides are the camera (bad in darkness) and no MicroSD card slot.
The Xperia U has a very beautiful design and a camera shutter button. The One V is thin and simple but the chin is very ugly and so unneccesary.
On the software you'll have to tell yourself, I personally like the Sony UI and Sony has some great apps, but also a lot of bloatware, I've only had Xperia Phones so I haven't had a TouchWiz or Sense phone, but from what I've seen I think that Sense is really ugly EXCEPT for Sense 4 (I think the One V has Sense 4) which is actually really beautiful and ICS optimized, also the Xperia U won't get ICS for a few months but if that doesn't concern you then I recommend the Xperia U.

I won't recommend xperia U.Personally I don't have it.My friend recently bought it and he regrets it.The main draw backs are no support of Devs(atleast for now).No ICS out of the box.Although sony promised an update we don't know when(correct me if I'm wrong)
So a better choice would be (according to me) Galaxy Nexus. It has got the best dev support. You get "instant" updates. And stock experience is what I like.So add a few bucks get Gnex.Only down side is bit a lag in 3d games but better than Xperia U.And other alternative is keep your xperia mini and get the Nexus 7 tablet if u aren't committed to a phone .
Hope I helped You.Think twice before buying

I was gonna recommend Galaxy Nexus too but it's a little more expensive.
You're right, Xperia U has a small community, but it's still pretty new and Sony Mobile isn't that big in the US, mostly sold in Sweden and Japan. Also Gingerbread SUCKS but if you're patient you can wait for ICS, and this guy just got ICS for his Xperia Mini so he's used to GB.

I think Gnex is not in India i guess, correct if i am wrong.
The phones just launched and the dev support will be there slowly i think.
Out of the Box Ics is not a importnt thing when u can get it by updating later or sooner
I already got dell streak with 5inch screen and ipad. so i guess i wont go for gnex7 tab

But the screen of GO is more smaller than U ???
and whats internal storage size and sd there??
@Moderaters.........Please close this thread, as the problem/confusion is solved. Got me Xperia u
pm the forum mod with your thread link posting here wouldnt help
Well you could always hope for a direct Jelly Bean upgrade, but Sony are so lazy with skinning Jelly Bean so I wouldn't think so.
But Jelly beans on Xperia U .......eehhhhh
wen Ics update decreases the RAM then i think JB will kill it. i mean JB will be requireing alot space.
btw, any1 know eta for ics on U
Tell me, which one's better?
Specs: Xperia P has better screen resolution (and Sony Bravia Engine), while Galaxy Advance has Super AMOLED screen, but the Xperia P's "whitemagic" is proofed to be the brightest screen on an Android Device so it beats sAMOLED. Xperia P has an 8 mpx camera and a pysical camera button.
Xperia P has a little smaller battery which is also unremovable which makes rooting harder.
I don't know about the Galaxy Advance but Xperia P will get ICS within a month and also has Flash Player built in for Gingerbread. The Xperia P also doesn't have a MicroSD card slot.
Software: Personally I think Sony has a better UI than Samsung but they have alot bloatware apps. I also think the Xperia P has an awesome design.
If you're a root user then I think I would recommend the Galaxy Advance since unremovable batteries are not very good.
If else you might want to read more about TouchWiz and Xperia UI, I've never had a Samsung Phone myself but I hate the UI and I think Sony are only ones who make good looking Software and Hardware.
If the screen size doesn't matter and neither the camera I would recommend the Xperia U whish has a smaller screen but a removable battery, my mom has one and it's really good except for the pretty bad 5mp camera.
Also I think the Xperia S is only like 50$ more and it's the best screen on a smartphone yet, It's even better than the SIII and One X.
I don't wanna change your mind but personally I would recommend the Galaxy Nexus or wait for the new Nexus phones. They will get the OS updates first and won't get outdated.
There appears to be a big lack of development for this phone. Just wondering if anyone expects things to pickup? I just come from a galaxy nexus and while I know that that it's one of the most favored phones from the developers side, I'm currently disappointed by the lack of options wet currently have. There is like only 3 ICS Roms and 3 ICS kernels (1 only has OC ability) to choose from.
Love this phone though.

It would be a dream if Huexx had a Sony Xperia S to develop a great rom like Zeus ROM for Optimus Black (i have one, trying to sell it). An incredible and organized work, with a great presence in the comunity, organized changelogs and constant updates! He also developed a nice kernel for CM9 (that original kernel from Cyanogen guys is bugged and crappy) that turned CM9 almost a usable ROM (not for me, since i really like listening music and podcasts with my phone). He did a really incredible work with Zeus! Should we ask him if he have interest in a Xperia S and donate one to him? XD haha! But really guys! Give a look at his work!
Yea...i two u man on dis...!!

mainly because the people have got this phone on a contract there for the bootloader cant be unlocked as of this moment until setool or some other software manage to enable fastboot via testpoint. (exactly the reason i cant develop for this phone atm)
Soon many Arc/Arc S devs will come and support this phone.
Once we get CM9 and CM10 going you should see more development.

Hehehe on the arc a lot of dev,s are gone to htc/s3.
A few teenagers are left there.
I'll try some serving during the summer, we'll see.. that's why I'm switching ROMs and making all these changes all the time, I'm learning about the phone's limits...

this is what concers me too.. i started with galaxy s then galaxy s2.. but after that i switched to moto xoom, then galaxy tab 10.1 and then temprorarly galaxy ace.. i used samsung most of the time because of the unlocked bootloaders but i could never get used to the build quality and never got away from the screen burns of the amoled screen..
so my next preference was htc sensation XE.. this was the perfect phone for me definetely.. i had gread develeopment (since it was backed up by original sensation days), great sound quality and somehow quallcomm CPU and GPU was better than the arm based ones... i know the benchmarks say the opposite but i was using my sensation XE at 1.2 Ghz by setcpu and it was still fast enough and it never refused to play any game i thrown at.. but dust got under the screen after a few months and i sold it..
so my next was htc one x and it was a disaster with the greatest screen i have ever seen.. it was a joy to play with it but the problems were unsolveable for daily usage.. and no matter how much i love playing with my phone, messing things most of the time i need it as a ready and steady phone for daily usage.. with that heat, lack of S-off and other problems i sold it too..
so novadays i was looking at the galaxy note or s3 but then i decided to be realistic.. i love playing my games on the consoles and my computer.. so gamewise any phone would handle me because my expectations are low.. what i want is smooth web browsing, very good audio quality to listen lossless music and a good camera to shoot good photos and HD videos (not like a pro camera but at least sharp enough to make the moment freeze forever to remember later).. so i decided to go for nexus.. but then in a store i realised every galaxy phone had screen burns.. i know there are lots of ways to prevent it but still this time i made a promis and have to live with my next phone 1.5 year at least and i dont want to watch my leds die slowly and seperately in front of my eyes everyday..
so i decided to go back to sensation XE.. the most problem-free experience for me.. i care so much about graphic performance.. i think any CPU can handle anything novadays but GPU makes the difference.. so the adreno 220 in sensation XE was more than enough with the help of low-res screen and it was also OCable.. but then i saw a friends xperia s.. that changed everything.. until then i did not even look at any sony device.. not even accidentely..
now i really can not decide.. i have never been into any sony topics before so i am trying to learn but i guess on the development side xperia S is no match for sensation / XE..
so i am kind of scared about the high resolution of the screen.. XE is getting old and has only 768 mb of RAM but it has S-off and lots of developers will keep it as a legacy device.. besides i do not have to worry about warranty since there is S-off...
on the other hand soy seems to be promising with this brand new device and it seems like they use the hardware better than HTC.. it gives 37.5 FPS on the nenamark2 even with that 720p screen.. but is there any chance that i keep the warranty even after i unlock the bootloader... and what about the sound quality? i know sensation XE was not the best but at leats the sound is clear and there is beats audio.. and "most importantly" will there be any more development? i dont want to buy a device that will be forgotten after 3-4 months...
i know i wrote very long but i decided to ask.. because i have been reading for 3 weeks non-stop and i am more cunfused than i started.. its like android world's nature.. every device has their adventages and disadvanteges on each other.. like a perfect balance and it is really hard to choose sometimes..
^ you can re-locked the bootloader. and here in Indonesia, they (Sony's Service) dont even bother checking the bootloader f it's hardware problems (yellow tints). so i guess it's not an issue, but different country, different policy.
and for development.. SXS has, modded stock roms (2), cm9 and cm10 in development (bug fixing, etc), and official miui. what's more do you want? i prefer this than many development which only modified stock roms, modified miui, modified cm. it's just me though..
actually i prefer one good custom (or stock) rom than lots of roms.. but for example sensation and one x has a camera mod which let them shoot videos with 20Mbps (or 40) and take photos with 0 compression.. and i can tell; lowering the compression value looks like a must for xperia S too.
or you can OC the GPU to get more performance on 3d apps or games.. these are more important than having lots of custom roms in my opinion.. because since ICS came out every custom rom is similar to each other.
what i want to do is generally about unleashing the potential of the hardware.. like in the camera mod example.. i mean, the camera lens is still there but the software uses it much better with a little touch of a good developer..

Hi
I want to know a few things about Xperia Sola before buying one
The most important thing to me is games , can Sola handle games average and big ones??? . And what can you tell me about the Sola's camera??.
Since it has a duel core cpu is it good for multitasking , is it fast or slow .
If you had to choose between Sola and Arc S ,which one would you prefer?
And one last thing , for how long do you think Sony will keep supporting Xperia Sola?
Thanks in advance
no one has Xperia Sola?????

Sola is the same as Xperia P and I have used an Xperia P for a bit. It will run most games fine and they are updating the compatability for the chipset as well. It is pretty smooth and the dual core should be good for multitasking. Its only real weakness is the 512 of ram it has which is not the greatest. If the 2011 line of Xperias can run ICS then the sola should too. Sony is definitely going to continue supporting the NXT series of phones and has done a good job so far. Sola is much better than Arc S.
For me Sola looked ideal on paper, but little after getting the phone it was rather a let down compared to the alternative with which i tested out earlier (Samsung galaxy ace 2, which was 15% cheaper). The only thing this phone is better at if movie capture quality and if it's not really that important I'd recommend everyone to choose Ace 2.

Why is that, the Ace 2 is the same hardware with a arguable worse screen? It does have a little more RAM which is nice, but it is one ugly phone and Samsung Ui is trash.
Ok thanks now I am satisfied.
I am going to buy a Sola
