What is the best way to back up my NT before I do the rooting process? Move everything to an SD card? Some way to save it as an entire file rather than individual files? Where to save it if not the SD card?

If you're unrooted you can't run apps like Titanium Backup because that require root so mount your NT and copy (Select ALL) your files form sdcard and MyNOOK to PC. Create a folder say "NT BACKUP" in your PC and copy your files there.

If you've got another SD card for rooting with (or are using a method which doesn't require one) then yes, you may just move everything to the SD card. Do keep in mind though that system settings won't be saved and you'll have to reinstall your applications too.

I'd a use boot CWM sdcard and backup everything, then copy apps from sdcard to pc as already stated.
Just my method.

Hey all,
Running the MC2.2 ROM and didn't realise that APP2SD required a reformatting of the card before it could be used, I'd like to start putting this to some good use so as I understand the process to partition the card will require wiping it, is there a way for me to back up the contents of the card? I could obviously copy the entire contents to my PC but where would I copy it back to once the partitioning is finished? Or would it be best to just copy off my media then uninstall/reinstall all apps from the market which will then appear on my card in the appropriate place?
Also is there anything else that needs doing on the phone to enable APP2SD or just having the MC2.2 ROM and inserting a correctly formatted card will do the trick?
Thanks
Russ
Howdy,
I searched but couldn't find the answer. I have a 32 gb sd card which I inserted, formatted and mounted into my phone. I can copy and paste files from the phone storage and files to it, and vice versa, but when I backup and restore using clockwork mod, it never gives me a choice to backup to external sd card, or to restore from external sd card.
I've tried everything, but can't get clockwork mod to recognize the external sd card. Any suggestions?
Also, if I try to install a zip file from SD card, Clockwork mod does see the card and the files on it, but it just won't list it as a choice to restore from or to backup to.
AFter a bit thinking about it, I guess my question is whether I can backup and restore directly to and from external sd card, or whether I backup and restore to internal card, and then just copy the file to and from my sd card using file manager or explorer?
backup and restore should by default go to external sd. Which version of cwm do you have?

Yep, thats how it is on mine too
I've got 5.5.0.4..
Is it possible to change my exfat 64gb sd card to fat32 without formatting?
If not then what is the best way to backup/restore to it?
If I do a nandroid full backup (while exfat) will it restore ok to fat32 file system?

You should move all your files to either internal storage or PC temporarily to back them up.

Will a drag and drop copy of the files, pick up any hidden/system files?

I just picked up a sd card today for my s4. The question I had was can I just copy all the folders and files that apps have created on the internal SD card over to the external sd card without any issues from the apps that created them? ie twrp, titanium backup etc.

Titanium backup has an option in preferences to change the folder it reads. Twrp should have a restore from ext sd option, I cant say for sure though because im a cwm user. Some data will have to stay on the internal sd card for it to be read properly or you have to use an app like folder mount to move the data.
If I helped you hit that thanks button please. Doing a little bit of reading goes a long way. Sent via tapatalk.
what is the typical file size for a typical file
ALSO can I simply copy and paste from the old to the new sd card, if some apps function off my external (ie cloud services) and expect programs to recognize all my data on my external card no problem?
Or is organizing, cleaning up syncs (ie maybe permissions change with a new card) a longer process than that?

Not sure but your apps on sd card not surely gonna be copied unless you copy the .androidsecure folder from sd which is hidden on Media and Camera usb modes. You can copy it by using UMS mode.
It can be changed using an app but it requires root. On very old devices this is the default mode. all your data are likely to be preserved. BUT IF CAUSE OF ANY OR ALL DATA LOSS, I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE. And, plus don't copy from sd to sd. copy from sd to pc and from pc to sd. Better if you use a card reader which is also gonna show you the .androidsecure folder removing the need of anything. HIT THANKS IF I HELPED
or am i misunderstanding your question?
So your saying as long as I copy the hidden folder I'm good?
Also what Android version are you talking about? ICS file system VERY different from 4.1.2 and Kitkat
