does anyone have the camera.apk or could upload it for me?? I have a titanium backup and the restore doesn't work. what happened was the camera app randomly stopped working... its totally unresponsive and acts as if i don't have a camera at all... other apps that use the camera work just fine (skype, oovoo etc...) so its not a hardware issue... i did flash a rom but it worked fine after that... for weeks... so i don't know what to do at this point... I have the 5.0 if that makes a difference... i tried a google search but i'm pretty sure i can't just put any camera.apk in my system/app/ correct? help is appreciated
i forgot to add that i recently changed my phone.apk to phone.bak to save battery... that wouldn't have anything to do with the camera tho right?
lol i had the exact same issue since I did that namechange. I'm changing it back right now, see if it works.
EDIT: yes it's totally the namechange issue. I changed back to phone.apk and now my camera works again
thanks man i can't believe the 2 are connected lol

I can't believe it's called "phone"
That's why TitaniumBackup has a 'freeze' feature. So you can stop an apk for awhile to make sure removing or modifying it doesn't adversely effect anything.

My market doesnt work because im not longer have Gtalk installed, I deleted it without even knowing it myself... first i though it was Gmail who caused this but then I read stuff on the net that Gtalk was associated with it.
Anyone able to upload the apk so i can install it
The ones that ive found on the old threads doesnt work :/
Thanks in advance (will thankbutton as well )

You won't get video calling due to processor support dough.
i don't think the gtalk app is the actual problem, as i deleted it myselfs and everything is ok.
But there are other packages related to gtalk like gtalk.framework (or sth like that) that you should not delete.
ilarrain, thanks, made installed gtalk now!
blade2011, you are right! I just installed it and it seems like it didnt work out...

Hey!
Next time just use the TITANIUM BACKUP.
CHEERS!
Myself and some others who run Cognition on their GS2 have reported that Lookout Mobile Security has found a Trojan in the Camera (hacked camera silent edition by potatoman as far as i know) this has just flashed up on my screen a few mins ago, in all the time ive had a smartphone and had Lookout ive never had a trojan so you'll appreciated the concern, i tried to uninstall but it wouldn't allow me (it's build into the ROM no doubt so would have to uninstall)
A concern no doubt, ive frozen it in Titanium Backup for now but i need some assistance folks what should be done in this instance, i could flash another ROM but id sooner stay with Cognition for now.

Its simple, use root explorer and replace camera.apk in system/app folder
Does anyone think this could be related to the auto-upload pics to Google+ feature?
This camera seems very popular here in XDA. I would just ignore the warning. But yeah, if you are paranoid, there is always the option of changing the apk.
I Posted this in the Cog thread too, but since there's 2 places to talk about it, here goes:
So full disclosure: I have no idea what I'm doing. Good start right?
I use LBE privacy guard to control permissions on a per app basis. After seeing the posts about camera.apk, I downloaded and ran Lookout, and found the same information as reported above, that camera.apk was infected with Trojan:Android/Bgserv.A.
I googled it and found : http://www.f-secure.com/weblog/archives/00002116.html
I noted the app permissions, which is basically everything, and compared it to what camera.apk was requesting on my phone. Camera.apk for me only requests access to sms and location, no network access and no phone info access.
I'm not sure, but this might be a false positive. Like I said though, I have no real experience with this stuff. I'm just poking around.
I think it is just a false alarm, nothing serious. I get this also on 2 other modified programs. And the other 2 is just translated. I think it is due the repackaging.

No. The camera app doesn't upload your pics - the Google+ app does it.
Scanned with Eset Nod 32 and Malwarebytes clean as a whistle = false positive probably .

I hardly think Lookout would flag this as being malaware if it wasn't, i don't subscribe to this "false positive" way of thinking, my opinion is better be safe than sorry.
So in order to get the stock camera back ive to replace this in system/app, where can i find an apk. for the stock camera, cheers.
I'll be ultra careful from here on in about downloading third party apps.
edit never mind i didn't see the above post i have replaced the camera via root explorer.
TRiying other rom same positive on Villain rom 2.1 and Villain after change the camera for the modded one thread.

...like an app from xda claiming to be the stock camera?
If it's better safe than sorry, your best bet is to roll back to a stock backup you made before flashing
OK i went to system/app and clicked on install and replaced the camera, done a scan and it's still showing as malaware and will not allow me to uninstall, where can i find a genuine apk. for the stock camera does anyone know, other than that ill have to flash another ROM.

i did say from here on in, this is a genuine community for the most part, however you cant be sure there are not people on here who create trojans inside apps, i just noticed with this camera app the amount of permissions it asks for is way too much just for a camera.

could you just freeze it with Titanium for the time being?
The thread below claims a stock apk i think:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1098834
Hi, just curious, I thought freezing and uninstalling an app through Titanium backup were the same thing?
I uninstalled htc lockscreen .apk, and the lockscreen went back to the oldschool style.
BUT, when i just freezed it, nothing happens. Its still the same lockscreen...???
I know this is a newb questions, but I could have sworn since my OG Evo days, that freezing is the same as uninstalling?
Mind sharing some of your insights?
THanks!!
That is weird I just froze the lock screen and was wondering why it didn't change!
I renamed the. Apk and the. Odex file and I have the stock ics lock screen now. Weird.
I believe freezing an app just removes it from being seen by the system (and user) kind of like hiding it and not having it use any resources. while uninstalling is completely deleting the item. For lockscreen, i've never frozen it, but you should back it up and then uninstall. Should work like the old EVO since apparently freezing didn't work

Can you tell me which directory you found the .apk file? (htclockscreen.apk I believe?)
I have no idea which folder to begin to look at

This is from the thread at HERE
I would have LOVED to write in that thread, but it seems I am not qualified for that yet... NOW
After installing it, like I would any CM ROM... I wiped all the caches I could... fixed permission just incase, installed the proprietary_vendor_google-signed.zip for google apps, witch should be pretty okey...
Ever so often I notoce that my phone needs me to enter PIN in order to recive and send calls... seems like it is "booting" without actually rebooting..
I cannot open a gallery app... well.. not that I would use normally anyways... The gallery in Camera360, and the stock Gallery closes... without giving me any chance of doing anything in there... Also stock camera autocloses on me..
So what might I do to solve this other than what I already have done??

This mod is not made by me, I take no credit for it.
I found a working camera mod on the One X forums.
It gives your phone's camera a number of extra features like changing compression settings, better image adjustments and more!
known issues:
- Slow motion camera is currently broken.
- Installing this mod on ATT 1X+ doesnt work (can be fixed by manually replacing the apk in system/app).
For more information, install instructions and download link, visit the origional thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1890547
Install this mod at your own risk, I take no responsibility if it broke your phone.
Sincerely,
Dinkelstefan

I tried to take some pictures today, but the picture compression doesnt seem to be doing anything anymore.
Maybe it's the new v5 update or maybe it's because I recently switched to the elegancia ROM.
Can anyone confirm if v5 also has this bug on other ROMs?
Anyhow the other extra settings do still work, like video compressions(which is really noticeable) and the audio compression from videos.
Also the extra steps in the image adjustments settings are noticeable.
If anyone wants me to upload a few videos with diffrent compressions, I'll try to make some time for it.
Break slow motion video capture for me, but the increased image quality heavily outweighs this con, would still like to get it working though, does it work for everyone else?
it also seemed to brake my slo-mo camera.
But I can live without it too. i like the new video quality, and the framerate which is more stable
I tested the photo compression again, and it does seem to be working. May have been a temporary bug yesterday.
I'll try to post some photos later!
Hi, have problem with Panorama function... it doesn't work: take the first shot, ask to move the camera and when I finished (if it doesn't return ad error because I'm too fast) it doesn't make any panorame, only the fist shot !
My configuration is in my sign... I'm doing something wrong ?

I have no idea, my panorama mode seems to be working fine.
My guess is reinstalling the mod, and if that doesnt work you might want to check out the origional mod page.
I've been a bit busy the past few days so the compression comparison pictures will come later.
Has anyone else been able to get this mod working on an AT&T HOX+? It doesn't seem to make any difference when I flash it on my phone.
Thanks.
I installed it on my AT&T one manually replacing the apk in system/app/ and is working so far.

You have to extract the apk from the zip file using a file explorer, copy the camera.apk to system/apps and set permissions to r-w-r-r, then reboot.
Note: Looks like this camera apk drains the battery faster.

I just tried this on a one XL, and i think it worked!
only difference i noticed is video camera has an option labelled "SHARP_5_3"
???
i thought there were setttings to force bitrates, etc..
Great find! Everything seems to work just fine and a bit quicker to launch too!
