I just started using Super Manager (from the market), and it gives the same capabilities for root access file management as Root Explorer.... for FREE. I figured that this information (even though it can be discovered searching the market) might be useful for someone. I have been using it for a day now, and it works great.
Below are other free root access apps as shared by the community in this thread:

Hi Guys, Few Days Ago I Posted Topic On How To Root Spreadtrum SC8810 Device But No One Was Accurate Enough. I Posted The Same Question On GSM Forum But No One Replied. This Is The 1st Tutorial Abt Rooting All Spreadtrum/Mediatek '&&' Many Other Processors With A Single Click.
Steps:
1) Download USB Drivers For Your Phone. (Google For It). If You Can't Find Drivers For Your Phone Then Contact Me.
2) Download VRoot (Self Modified Version) From Here : Mod Edit: Links removed
3) Install The Program.
4) Connect Your Phone Via USB.
5) Turn On USB Debugging In Your Phone. For 2.3 '&' Lower: Settings>Applications>Development>USB Debugging
For 4.0 '&' Above:
Advance Settings>USB Debugging
*However, It May Depend On Your Phone's Manufacturer*
4) Run The Program.
5) It Will Identify Your Phone '&&' Then Click On 'GREEN' Button Next To Your Phone's Icon. This Software Is In Chinese So Just Follow My Instructions.
6) Now Wait For Few Minutes '&&' Let The Rooting Procedure Be Carried On!
7) After Few Mins Your Phone Will Be Rebooted '&&' You Will Get The Root Access. SuperUser Will Be Installed In Your Phone.
8) Now You Can Install Busybox OR You Can Check Your Root By 'Root Checher App'.
WARNING : Rooting Can Void Your Phone's Warrenty '&&' Wrong Way Can BRICK It. Try @ Your Own Risk!

You Rock
Thanks for this man, I had a unmodified copy of that program and it was driving me nuts, just click and boom rooted.
You rock dude. Go the sub $100 5inch screened chinese android phones
Edit : I noticed in your old guide that you could remove the chinese superuser after installing english superuser and updating, I've done that
and the prompts now come up from the english superuser, but the chinese one has made itself a system app somehow and I can't delete it,
is there a solution for that or should I just disable it and ignore it.

So you get english superuser prompts when something asks for root? Try using Titanium Back up to uninstall the chinese superuser app.

Plz Ignore It Cz If You Will Uninstall SuperUser Then You May Loose Root Access.
Size Of Chinese SuperUser Might Be Like 700 Kb. It Wont Affect You Much. So Just Leave It As It Is! !

It is actually quite simple to swap out the chinese superuser for the SuperSU or english Superuser if you know how. I posted how in my post about using Vroot.

Also - for most devices needing an ADB driver, just install snap pea from here: www.snappea.com It will install a generic ADB driver that will work just fine with any and every device I have used it on so far! You might also consider referencing or linking the developer of this tool since it is not of your own design. :good:

NOT ONLY. i uses a exploit which is in ALL android kernels which was build BEFORE 6/2014. so if you lucky it will work too.
-remeber installing superSU & busybox after rooting with that app.
& no i dont think theres some "easy" solution for linux users. most method require a exe or drivers etc which in most cases are written for windows.
also why you dont do this job on firends pc?? (with win) or use a HDD/SSD to install windows quickly just for this & delte after. or make a partiotion install win, do your stuff, then format in linux & give back space to linux filesystem.
do you have no machine running win???? (i couldnt live in that way even MS sucks!)
