Hello, I'm a nOOb. Please be patient and understanding towards me.
My Kernel version is:
2.6.35.7-I9100XWK14-CL575468
[email protected] #2
Please can anyone tell me if that is generic firmware or branded?
The reason I ask is because I purchased the handset from a business seller on eBay who has assured me that the handset is unlocked with Samsung generic firmware.
I want to make sure so that I am able to update the software to ICS this month.
Thank you.
Call *#1234# and tell us what phone, pda, you have.

Can anyone help?
Looks like you have a Car Phone Warehouse CPW csc on there.
Don't know what is included with a CPW phone but the branding/bloatware is usually in the csc.

Will I be able to update to ICS the same time as a on branded handset?

Their is no such animal as generic firmware .
Branded = providers branding and other stuff.
Unlocked = not locked to a network .
As said thats CPW firmware .
It can be replaced by stock Samsung firmware for your region .
Providing Kies recognises the phone for updates you should get the ICS release when CPW update .
Connect the phone to Kies and see what it says .
jje
It means it's a Car Phone Warehouse branded phone as far as I can tell from all the way over here.
If you are interested in flashing generic then I recommend XWKK5 from intratechs official firmware thread. Flash via Odin. All instructions are in his thread.

KIES says I have the latest firmware. I will wait until CPW release the update
There is no such thing as generic firmware. What you are talking about is the standard unlocked model firmware.
Firstly check if your phone is network unlocked (search up the code to type in) and then use odin to flash back to 2.3.3 which you can download off SamMobile, if you want to know the exact version, ask me and I can find out as I already have the ROM (remember to do a factory wipe afterwards). Then once you flash that, plug your phone into kies and update to the latest and you'll be able to get ICS when it's released. Job done!

1st off kies is rubbish. Get used to Odin if you are thinking of flashing.
By generic I take it as no Telco added bloatware.
You can use an app called checkfus to check what is the latest for your Telco/carrier regardless of where you bought the phone or what firmware is installed. Then from the link I gave you download and flash if desired.
Good luck with whatever way you go with it.

Find the firmware and use Google to search for a download .
But as Multiupload has been closed down its unlikely .

Sorry missed your post.
I did exactly the same thing only a few weeks back.
I found I could still download from one of intratechs links just not the megaupload one.
As said above you can get it through checkfus. I used my jig too just incase Optus tried to refuse me.
If you get stuck I can try and upload my copy and provide a link for you.

Edit: checkfus is CHECK Firmware Update Server. There is an app on the market to check and a web site to access the downloader which is used on your pc.
Been trying to upload kk2 for Optus but am having problems.
Might be quicker for you to follow this link and download it from them.

Hi,
Kies announced me today (08.01.2012) that it has downloaded a new firmware for my I9100. I'm on Vodafone Romania.
But because I have a custom ROM on my phone, I'm wasn't able to see what version it's about.
Did anyone from Romania received the same announce?
What version it is? Could it be ICS 4?
Regards,
Stefan
Unfortunately I am on Orange but most likely is 2.3.6 or .5. If it was ICS, it would have already been leaked on the Internet.
latest for vodafone romania is KJ3 which is 2.3.5 .. checkfus downloader says it all
Thank you guys.
I just thought that it could be ICS.

Stefan

I've checked and you're right:
Last modified: 2011-10-24
Latest firmware: I9100BUKJ3/I9100CNXKI2/I9100BUKI1/I9100BUKJ3
File name: GT-I9100_CNX_1_20111024142942.zip.enc2
Version: Android 2.3.5
But what's very strange is why Kies informed me now about this new firmware, considering that I have it installed on my laptop since I bought my phone (in may 2011)... Before this announce I didn't connect my phone to the laptop through KIES. And more, having a custom rom on my phone KIES cannot search for updates.
Isn't this strange?
Regards,
Stefan

Hello, I would like to know if there's someone that has the carrier branded ROM for Movistar (Peru). My galaxy's vibrator stopped working so I need to claim its warranty.
I know Infratech might get it, but since I have less than 10 posts I can't ask for it in the Original Development Forum where his "carrier branded roms" post is located...
But if anyone got it please let me know,
Thanks in advance.
Also, after rebranding the phone and using the jig to reset the custom firmware counter the phone should be ready to take if back the dealer right?

You should be able to use the one from Argentina (UHKG7) just fine. Looks like it's the same version as the latest one for Peru.
Carrier branded firmware here & country specific non-branded firmware here, or if you're after the latest firmware for your carrier/phone/country try Checkfus (search for it on here).
Thanks MistahBungle, but the one I'm looking for is not listed there, and I cannot request it there because I still have less than 10 posts, I'll try to get to it without making nonsense posts.

I think my phone actually came with KE5, and I think there was no Kies update ever for my Carrier-Country combination, so wouldn't that be a problem and let them know I have been flashing it?

In that case, use the one from Columbia, which is UHKE5. It's also the closest listed country for Movistar to Peru geographically anyways, so it's probably from the same batch.

Cool, I tried with checkfus and found there's a newer firmware,
This is how I got my phone:
Product Code: GT-I9100LKLSAM
Phone Version: I9100UHKE3
PDA Version: I9100UHKE5
CSC Version: I9100SAMKE2
and it says the latest firmware for SAM is:
PDA: I9100UHKG7
CSC: I9100SAMKG1
Phone: I9100UHKG4
I can't download CheckFus to download it because the sites tells me that no hotlinking is permitted and keeps sending me back to the homepage, so I'll search for CheckFus elsewere and try to get that firmware.
Ok, it is downloading right now, thanks for your help, after it finishes I'll flash it and use the jig to reset the counter, as far as I know it will be ready to take it back,
Any recomendations for making a backup of my phone as it is right now? Thanks again.

A Nandroid. But I think you'd need to root it again to do so.
Hello RaulGuichard,
Please could you post the site where you find the firmware. I'm looking for it but no lucky.
Hi,
I have a friend who bought his SGS2 from Phones4U (UK).
He has updated it via ODIN to an unofficial firmware version but didn't bother checking what factory version of firmware was originally on the phone.
And now, yep, you guessed it he wants to revert back to factory so that Kies recognises his phone and will update through the "official route".
Does anybody know what version of firmware from the samfirmware site is the correct one for phones4u users here in the UK?
Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers,
Luke.
As this is my first post I can't link an image from my KIES.
Not sure if this is what you are really after but here goes.
PDA:KIA4/PHONE:KI1/CSC:KH2 (XEU)
Thanks for that info. Looks like he may need to download one of the XEU firmware versions...
Will get him to give it a go and report back.
Thanks again!

Yep but it doesn't state which firmware represents Phones4U which is the problem as my mate didn't bother taking note of the factory firmware version that originally came with his device. Judging by the previous posters details on his phone (purchased from P4U) he needs an XEU (Europe) version so he's going to give one of the three European versions on there a go later.

Probably not a bad move. Once he flashes a stock ROM, he can update through Kies.
It could only be a problem if (big unlikely if) something goes wrong with the phone and he has to send it in for service, and then if the service people check the records (which is also not likely, if there's an official version of firmware and "custom counts" = 0).

Don't you need to be correct in the ROM selection for this to work though? I.e. if you put the wrong stock ROM on, Kies will recognise your device but will tell you that it does not support the version on your device (something along those lines).

Was your phone network locked if so you will need to find the latest ics build for Germany and flash via Odin and uroot if you are sending back for warranty.
If your device was unlocked you can flash the latest unbranded sw.

All the latest stock roms are at the beginning of this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1646610
If your phone is network locked you will need to search elsewhere for your career specific version. These are unbranded roms just ensure you change the cschool to your correct region. Apparently it does not void warranty if you sent your device back with a stock unbranded Rom but you will be doing so at you own risk. You will also need to check that your flashcounter is set to 0 (search xda for full tutorials regarding this) all of the above is what I have found but may not be the full instructions follow so therefore please do your research first. I cannot be held responsible for anything that may go wrong. I hope I have been of some help.

My apologies that should be ''csc''. I wrote that post from my phone and did not notice that predictive text must have changed that.
If you go to http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=GT-I9300 and find the last DBT release (CSC for Germany) and download that.
Please bare in mind that DBT is the unbranded csc if your device was originally carrier locked you may need to flash that for example the csc for t-mobile germany is DTM.
If you hover the mouse over each csc on this page it will tell you the country and carrier
so i think i've found the basefirmware:

Hi, I'm trying to flash my samsung with the new android 4.3 but it keeps
Go back to the original firmware no matter what firmware I flash it with
I've tried 4.0.1 official firmware (which was originally on it)
And the new 4.3
And that happened after I took it to samsung services to solve a problem happened in it
And they flashed it with the EGY firmware
Does anyone know why it keeps going back to that firmware?
And by the way I could root it normally and used it for about 2 weeks
Thank you very much for your help

Maybe the Rom is not flashing properly. Phone should be "USB Debugging" enabled. Then please make sure you are selecting the md5 file in PDA section of Odin and also make sure that the phone is connected in Download mode (Power+Home+Vol Down - and then press Vol UP from the screen). It will show a blue color in COM section.

As far as I checked they are both 4.1.2 firmwares so there will be no change. Visit sammobile for the latest i9300 firmware for your country.

About odin, yes you can flash the firmware and your phone will work normally. Rooted does not matter for odin.
But if you are rooted then OTA update will not happen because Samsung will detect that you modified (rooted) the software.

Yes, your phone is ok. Maybe there was some confusion before about why firmware was not flashing. But it was same firmware so nothing wrong with your phone.
