[Q] Fastboot failure help - Motorola Droid RAZR

so i crack open quite a number of USB cable just to follow the guide in
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1403100
to save my Fastboot error due to the "Battery Low" message.
however, in my way of tweaking the cables, my phone died and the battery is totally out.
will the tweak works? or can anyone teach me how to externally charge the battery because i manage to crack open the back cover and take out the battery...there's no way to buy replacement battery near my residence atm. the nearest will take few weeks of stock arrival...so i need a quick solution to get my phone back up...
can anyone please help me?

thanks for your responds but however, as stated, I tried to build the factory cable but no luck as of yet, can give me any suggestion on which cable is easier to be built into the "factory cable" as instructed? i stripped a blackberry, htc, and samsung micro usb cables but no luck on getting them to work as factory cable...
i hav no extra Motorola USB cable so will it be worth the ripping?

I recently build a factory cable and used the original Motorola USB cable. If you have enough skills in soldering etc. try it but i must say its not easy because the cables inside are very thin and the contacts are also very small. If you fail you can simply buy a new cable search on amzon.com for "Motorola-SPN5504-SKN5004A-micro-USB-Charger".

If you have removed your battery you can charge it directly By stripped USB cable but you have to reduce the valtage 4 to 4.5 ,USB output is 5v and if you direct charege it damage your battery. If you can get assist from electronic technician simply you can make it.

I think building a factory cable is much more safe then try to remove the battery.

Just get a charger that does not exceed the values on the battery (eg. voltage and Ma) charge it for hour and so and your good to go

[Q] USB not recognizing PC or Docks, please help.

Yesterday I plugged my phone into my PC and went to set it to mount as mass storage but the USB connected notification wasn't there. The phone charged fine off the USB, just didn't see the PC.
I thought this may be a PC issue until going to use it on my HD Multimedia dock, phone wouldn't recognize the dock was attached. Then went and tried it in the car dock, same thing, phone charged but didn't go into cardock mode.
Also not sure if this is related but since then battery has been discharging quite quickly.
Please help.

Bruce.
Hi, did you use the original cable ?
I noticed that the cable from my galaxy S II didn't work with the razr droid !

This will probably solve ur problem:
Uninstall all motorola from PC
Reinstall motocast 1.29
Connect ur razr in every mode, and wait it reinstall the drivers.
Cheers
Thanks, but it's the phone that's not recognizing the usb cable is plugged in. I've tried it on three PCs and the darn thing will only charge, not give usb connection options.
Get a small paintbrush and a can of Dust-Off or other compressed-gas sprayer.
Hold the phone between your knees with the USB port up. Swirl the brush around inside the USB jack while blowing air into it at the same time.
Try it now.
Micro USB jacks have a very nasty habit of collecting pocket lint. It can prevent the cables/plugs on any device from making a solid electrical contact.
This will likely become a routine operation that you perform once a week or so.
You can buy micro-USB rubber plugs that protect a female jack from damage and dirt. You should try the usual places to find one; Amazon, DigiKey, Fry's, JameCo, etc.
If this doesn't get it, you may be looking at either replacing the jack (if you can un/solder very small things), or replacing the phone itself.
PS: If you have geeky friends who like pranks, get a high-powered magnifying glass and check for Scotch Tape on the USB jack contacts. I've done this to an obnoxious iPhone FanBoyz phone before. I confessed before his battery was completely dead...

Did anyone ever find a solution to this? I'm having the exact same issue, have tried clearing out the USB port, different cables and every port on my PC. It charges on connection but doesn't recognise that it is connected to a computer rather than a power port.
Any advice?

Stock. I'm thinking of doing a factory reset as it has been freezing a lot recently and I suspect its a software issue, but I was hoping to do a proper backup first, however I lost root a while ago when I updated to ICS . I don't know if the freezing and not recognising computer could be two sides of the same issue?

Atrix wont charge only seen by PC in RSd or Fastboot mode

I just picked up a used atrix that the owner said wouldn't charge. I swapped a known good battery in it and was able to get it to boot up. Thinking the USB port probably need replaced I looked for damage but could not find any and all the water sensors are fine. It wont charge from AC or from my computer and I have tried with 3 different known good USB cables and 3 different known good wall units that provide at least 5v (2 were official motorola chargers). Oddly enough my computer only detects that the phone is plugged in if the phone is in RSD mode or fastboot mode. I used rsdlite to flash back the 4.5.91 sbf hoping that a factory restore would do some magic but still no charging or mass storage mode identification. Any ideas or do I need to get comfortable with a soldering iron?

same problem here, hopefully someone finds a fix.
For the heck of it i created an active usb cable and re did the auto unlock procedure and flashed epinters latest cm10 build. After boot the charge indicator came on but still didn't appear to be charging. Rebooted into recovery and factory reset then powered it down. I then plugged it into my tablets usb charger that outputs at least 9v and for the first time it went to the charge screen. Now it seems that it's able to charge again finally.

Google it. In a nutshell, an active cable is a cable that has the fifth micro-USB pin (which is normally unused) connected to the (+) pin.

[Q] Returning My X2 with Eclipse ROM

After a good long while my X2's microSD port stopped working. So now I can't charge it, or connect it to my computer. I took it to a Verizon Wireless store and they confirmed that the port looks fine, but doesn't work. They had me a replacement shipped. I have the one they just sent me working fine, but I have to return my old one. The old one with the messed up port has Eclipse v2.3 on it, and I don't know how to get it back to a stock ROM without being able to connect it to my computer. It says in the shipping paperwork that they can charge me the full retail price for several reasons, including "software alterations." I can get to the stock bootloader of course, but bootstrap requires me to be plugged in to the AC charger. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks guys.
When you say doesn't work... do you mean absolutely zilch or will it charge?

I mean absolutely zilch!
Have you tried wiggling the USB plug on your cable when it's connected? Sometimes, it might be really loose. I'm assuming you and Verizon tried, especially if you took it to Verizon and they confirmed it wasn't working.
I'm also assuming you've tried different cables just in case? I do know that if you don't use a cable that was made specifically for the X2, it might not have enough power to charge. I have noticed that with my RAZR (and my X2 before that), using USB cables and chargers that were NOT specific to the RAZR/X2 worked fine for a while and then they wouldn't work or worked sporadically. I would have to wiggle the cable to make it "register" but one slight movement would then cause the phone to say it was disconnected from the charger.
But, if I used the car charger or charging cable that came with my RAZR/X2, it worked fine.
I know some people have also tried bending in the outside part of the USB port more towards the inside so that it results in a tighter fit for the USB connector on your cable and that has worked. But, you definitely want to be careful if you're returning it.
Otherwise, it's probably something on the actual circuit board inside where the port has broken away from the logic board and is no longer registering to the phone when something is connected. At that point, I think you're done.
Thanks for the Ideas

Thanks for the ideas, but I already tried all of those with no luck. There was about two days where I could still charge it with some manipulation of the connection, but no more.
What about a different battery, tried a ifferent one?? If the battery is shot, that can create a headache in its own world.

USB Problems and Transfering Data

Sort of asking for a recommendation for a solution.
So my phone finally died but it died before my new phone got here.
Battery drained really fast.
Always had to wiggle the USB cord
NO dust in the USB port
Then just stop charging.
!) I think it's the usb because it wont charge.
2) Cant mount the phone onto my computer (therefore cant transferfiles)
Solution:
1) Buy a flex cable for the USB
- will my computer then be able to recognize the phone ?
2) Buy an external charger
- but what if it's the battery. and a external charger is pricier than the flex cable
3) What other things can I do ??
Taking the data out. and or transfering the data to my GS4
1) Once I get power onto my phone i guess I can try to mount it onto my new phone.
2) Upload everything, (but that's not really normal )
3) BLUE TOOTH !! LOL
4) What else ?
You can transfer files over Wi-Fi. Use drop box or air droid or some program like that. It's a little more time-consuming than using the USB transfer, but it'll get the job done.
As far as the battery goes, if you can't borrow someone's phone to charge it up, then I guess an external charger is the most likely solution. If the USB port is actually bad, then a new USB cable won't solve the issue.

I would try taking it into an AT&T store and seeing if they have a spare cable to try charging it. Just tell them your situation. After its charged (if it does) at least like 40%, take it home and use air droid to transfer your files.

yeah thats true. i've done it before. they charge it on another phone. air droid is on the Google Play store ? Hmm I am thinking about just buying an external charger if this is the case. since it would take a while to transfer and it would allow me to use it to use it some more. Thanks !

Galaxy S4 won't charge.

Help! My Samsung Galaxy S4 won't charge or connect to a computer. I've tried different chargers, cables, plug in locations, car, 110, computer. There is no dirt. Connection is clean. I have a spare battery and both of them will charge on the battery charger. I have tried backed up roms. I have done a factory reset.
All of this and nothing helped. Am willing to try anything. Verizon is going to send me a refurb.
Help please.

Is there any indication of a connection being made? If not, you should just wait for the refurb. If you have rooted, I really doubt Verizon will honor the warranty on the broken phone. I wish you the best.

sounds like contacts are on the phone side are damaged or the micro usb port is damaged.
Have you plugged into to a pc just to see if it can "see" the device and connect?
You stated it cannot connect to a pc, so i would suspect you have a bad micro usb port.
if you can connect, its not the port, and try taking an eraser and gently swabbing the contacts on the phone side.
also, make sure when you insert the battery there is an actual contact established. sometimes when pulling/pushing the battery in and out, those contacts sink further into the device and finally when you insert a batter the contact is very poor. you may need a tool or tweezer to just VERY, VERY GENTLY raise the contacts if they sunk in to far......but be careful not to pull too hard/much they can snap and you will probably void any warranty......

I am having the exact same problem. I have replaced the microUSB charging port on the phone and it still doesnt charge with the new port. I'm not sure what is going on. NEED HELP BIG TIME!!!
I'm having the same problem as well. It has been like that for bout a month or so now. I googled it and it seems to be a problem with the s3's and s4's. I'm not so worried about it as I have a spare battery charger and I have the wireless charging receiver on my s4 and it charges my phone just fine.
I had this exact problem I believe...tried several different chargers...everthing. Try turning the phone off and see if it takes a charge. When mine was off it would show a gray battery and vibrate every 5-10 seconds. I figured it was an issue with the charging/usb port but all of the sudden my phone started charging normally and is visible by a computer. Lasted for about 4 days and have been in the clear for about 3 days now. No clue what went wrong or why, but try what I mentioned above by charging with phone off for a half hour or so and see if it has charged at all. If you need a new USB port, not all GS4's have the same port, so you must get a verizon specific one (ebay). usually run about $20..or $65 installed at a phone fixing center. I didnt want to lose MDK, so I was prepared to just charge externally, but ended up not having to...yet
It happened to me also. I had some intermittent luck with blowing out the port with air from my air compressor. But in the end it just stopped working and Verizon sent me a refurbished one.
I Also have this problem!

Have you tried powering down your phone and seeing if that gray battery comes up and you get the vibrations (while plugged into charger)? You may need a new port, but since your under warranty, you could get a replacement unless you want to charge externally
S4 problem after update to 4.3
Hy,
I have a similar problem with my S4 (i9505), won't indicate if it is charging or connect to a computer, but while the charger is conected to S4, the battery level is increasing. When the battery is fully charged S4 is SHUTING DOWN!!!! And it wont start by pressing ON/OFF button, it will only start after I press Vol Down+Power, after goes to Download Mode and press Vol Down .
Tryed in many ways to fix:
- restore-
- hard reset
- changed te battery and charger
-i\ve changed even the usb port (flex cable) and =no results...
All problem started after update to 4.3.... and it is not an isolated case too many people complains about this 'awesome smartphone' with 'awesome issues' .
So, if anyone have any ideea how to solve this issues....
{Sorry for my bad english}
Had the same problem...lasted for about a day, I had to take a dry q-tip and clean the charger and the port where the phone charges and was able to get it working again. If you are rooted and are having issues go to amazon or ebay and get a wireless charger and it should take care of your problems as well

Ok....wireless charger...but what about syncing with the PC?
Now I have JB 4.3 , for a custom ROM I need to use usb cable to connect to PC, rigth?.
For me it is annoying, because I do not know for sure if this is caused by updatind to 4.3 or is a harware problem.
My wife's phone had this issue last night and this morning; charger or computer, it wouldn't charge. I turned it off, took out the battery, SIM and uSD card and put them all back in. After that it started charging again. I don't know if this will solve the problem long term, but so far it seems to have done the trick...

Lucky you...I did more than that, but no result in my case. I found on ''community.verizonwireless'' many more similar cases where ''customers support'' tried to avoid giving the answers for a real solution.
Well, our luck didn't hold. My wife's S4 wouldn't charge again last night. I tried another Samsung charger and a different cable but it wouldn't work either. When we left the house she tried it on the car charger and it worked great. Trying various other chargers we found that a kindle charger wouldn't work, but other third party chargers would. Even her PC USB port seems to work and she doesn't have the drivers loaded. For now she replaced the Samsung charger and cable that came with her phone for one that came as part of an accessory pack and it's happy again.
I have no idea what's going on with the thing. I asked one of the guys at the Samsung booth in Bestbuy and all he had to offer was reflashing the ROM or un-rooting it and doing a warranty exchange...

Can you check, please, if your new data cable has 4 or 5 pins(look to the side that connects to your phone )?
My first s4 done this. So I ended up with a replacement mdk phone after I figured out if you bend the lil piece in the charging port of your phone (not too much BTW) the charger will slide into the port as it's meant to.
Sorry I can't remember the tech term for that lil pin inside the charging port.

I think the S4 is compatible with QI compliant wireless chargers. Amazon has some that are only $20... might be worth the purchase.... hell if I didn't have this tank of a case on I would buy it.

Thanks for your answer, but I already did that....I even changed the flex cable with charging port, no luck for me.....
I think this issue it is not hw problem because, look what I did today:
-I put a new Rom , so I used MIUI FOR I9505 from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2306650
And now it behaves even stranger:
S4 is ON and wall charger is conected, (LED IT IS OFF but BATTERY IS BLINKING and is charging ) after battery level go up to 100% and disconect the charger, the LED STARTS TO LIGHT GREEN!!!!
So, now shows that is charging when charger is NOT connected?
