Hello,
My question is, if I want to go from a custom rom (ICS Stock V2 in this case) to a stock ROM flashing by Odin, do I need to wipe something from Recovery? If the answer is yes, which wipes?
just wipe cache after u flash with odin
Then no wipes before. so I won't lose any app, right?
Actually if u do that y will have a lot of issues. I recommend you to formatting all. If y don't want to lose your apps use appbrain to do a online backup. Is very easy. And y will have a clean install

I suggest wiping everything to prevent bugs. TRUST ME everything will FC

Define backup. Nandroid? You should not have to but it cannot hurt.

Usualy if you want to go from stock to CM9 you place CM9 rom and gapps on the internal sd card. Wipe cache and dalcik cache, data/factory reset, format system and then flash both zip files straight in a row without rebooting.
Go from CM9 to stock, reset the flash counter with Triangle Away and wipe and format as above. Go in downloadmode and flash stock rom with Odin.
If this is what you mean.
If you restore a nandroid backup you are still rooted and not have clean stock.
but if i restore a nandroid over a cm10 ( obv after a full wipe), will it works? oe i always need to reflash a stock rom?
It will work mate. No worries

Can I Flash from one custom Rom to another Custom rom WITHOUT FACTORY RESET WIPE. so I dont loose my programs and settings?
I would like to keep flashing Furture custom roms But I want to Keep ALL my Settings and Programs.....So I want NO WIPE FLASHABLE ROMS...:silly:
Any ideas?
I wouldnt.
But u can always make a backup. Test the new rom. If u like it keep it and start over. If not. Recover backup.
Also titanium "backup" will backup your apps.
U can sometimes just wipe dalvik and cache. And fix permissions. But its not advised. Red through you rom of choice install instruction. If it says full wipe. And u dont wnna full wipe. Dont.
U dont need to full wipe when updating a rom. Jus moving to a completely new one. I.e going from omega to cm9. Will require a full wipe. But the roms thread will tell you this.

Ideas yes Bumping posts in a short time span is against the rules .
Answer not many custom roms actually ask for Factory Reset and Wipe .
Worth reading each custom roms install instructions in full .
Where a custom rom does ask for the rather unusual Factory Reset and Wipe it would be for a significant reason But you are free not to factory reset install the rom and see if it works or not .

Yes, of course it's possible, otherwise people would be stuck if they update and don't like what they flashed.

If your having all those issues your probably flashing an incompatible rom or kernel version.
Go to sammoble.com, grab your stock 4.0.4 rom, flash it in ODIN, flash Siyak kernel and then reboot into recovery and wipe data/factory reset.

Why not? Surely you made backups of apps/appdata or even a nandroid backup before installing new rom?
If you made app/app data backup simply restore after wiping/flashing new rom.
If you made a nandroid backup simply use app extractor to extract/install apps/appdata to new rom.
You can also backup/restore SMS with SMS Backup from store and your contacts will auto sync when you enter googole account.
If you go back and forth between roms you will keep on running into issues. Plus flashing stock roms in ODIN wipes your apps/app data anyway so its not as if using the wipe data/factory reset in CWM is going to lose your apps as you will have already lost them.

What he meant was that if you flash a rom with Odin, you don't have to do the wipes manually through CWM again.
TB is a good app (and the most used by people as far as I know) to back up your USER apps (don't back up system apps). After flashing you can restore them, even with your app data included.

Hello guys. I am currently using Slimbean RC1 and I made a backup of my rooted stock 4.0.4 with Siyah kernel so that when I restore my backup anytime in future then will not have any super brick risks. But I have a confusion. Do I need to do a full wipe in CWM before restoring backup? Or it will wipe automatically?

hi friends..
i have sony lww rooted and a flashed custom rom serenity v3 and vegeyance 1.31 kernel.
now i want to try another custom rom but i have some confusion..
should i have to follow all procedure again while flashing another custom rom
i mean i don't want to loose my data and contacts again i have backup but i don't want to do it again
so if i want to flash another custom rom should i have to follow all procedure like..
-flash a kernel
- do a full wipe/factory reset
- wipe cache
- go to mount & storage>format system
- go to advance-wipe dalvik cache
- flash the rom
i know flashing kernel and flashing rom is always important and without it i cant install any custom rom
but i hate the steps to follow between these two steps.....
so friends plz tell me is this compulsory to follow all steps or is there any short way...
thanx to all in advance.....

If you are on an ics kernel, no need to flash a kernel again. If you want to flash CM, then you have to follow all the instructions. While switching between roms, wipe everything except the /data partition. Then install your new custom rom. There is no guarantee that the rom will boot. It is recommended to wipe everything but no harm in trying. It is much safer to backup contacts by going to contacts and export to sd card. For messages you can use Sms backup and restore on market. Use titanium backup for apps. Done!

I would not recommend to format /system. Otherwise you may get a getprop error. The updater-script should wipe /system automatically
Only wipe it if it's recommend in the thread of the rom :good:
follow this procedure bro...
1.Backup
So you dont want to lose data...then first backup your contacts, export it to memory card,
then backup messages using sms backup and restore,u can find that on the play store...
dont forget to make a nandroid backup..
2.Gather info about current device status and the rom u want to flash
then check whether the rom you want to flash requires a different kernel other than the one on your device right now...
if the android versions differ, definitely kernel has to be changed otherwise you can get stuck in a bootloop...
visit the rom thread, check whether there are some bugs associated with your device, download the fixes required if any...
here you might find links to the supported kernels, instructions on installing the rom i.e wipe cache, data, dalvik cache, system etc etc...
download the rom, copy it to your sdcard along with the fixes if any...
3.Start flashing
First flash the kernel...then enter recovery
wipe the partitions that were mentioned on the thread...
then select your rom and flash it..,then enter recovery again if u want to flash the fixes...
4.Restoring..
install titanium backup first, restore all your apps from the nandroid backup, then you can restore the contacts and messages...
you are done
i know its a long procedure,u can get really frustrated until you hit on a stable rom and kernel...but i dont think there is any shortcut to this..
Sometimes the updater-script in your new rom may have been set to delete data, system, cache, dalvik cache. So if u don't want them to delete u have to edit the updater-script.
Hi!
I want to do a
COMPLETE REINSTALL
of my Neo V.
I use AOKP ROM.
What is the best way to start here?
1) using flashtool by DoomLord and flashing old stuff before doing a full wipe?
2) only full wipe via recovery and then install the ROM?
3) factory reset, then full wipe, then flash ROM?
Whatever.
I am overwhelmed of the possibilities in doing it. There are many ways, but I want to ensure that everything is set up correctly from the start.
All my data and intern ROM stuff is saved via Titanium.
So don't be shy to recommend the best and cleanest and deepest way to do this!
Thanks a bunch for your advices!
All the best

This is the usual procedure when installing a (new) ROM.
The other day I saw something in Flashtool which said that my device would still be a ICS device. There was nothing mentioned that AOKP was already in use. Or a JB kernel. There was still a footprint from a ICS ROM I used ages ago. I want to change that.
This is my problem: I want the device to be recognized correctly everywhere.
So, the advice you gave me would be the deepest I can do for the device itself?
I think I did this one or two times, but these footprints from former ROMs and flashing stuff are still there.
Thanks in advance!
Flash stock firmware (.587)
Copy ROM and GAPPS on SD
Flash a kernel in fastboot
Go to recovery..
Full Wipe.. install..
it should be good..
Check in Flashtool once the mobile is settled down. it should recognise as 4.1.x or watever!!

It is important to mention where to get this Stock ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1678690
What I already got back to normal is the indication of Wifi: It never was blue and full but always grey.
I didn't check my version in Flashtool yet as I am still restoring my apps and settings.
Will report back if there are any issues or new information.
See you around.
