Hey guys I've searched the thread before posting this so please don't flame me lol..OK my question is this..can i achieve root without flashing pre-rooted kernel and without using Odin?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using XDA

Not yet. There only two mehods currently available and they both require ODIN. Just go for it I say. I did am glad I can regain the control I need for the Note.

I didn't want to but it was pretty easy..i thought it was going to be a headache but nope it was simple and i totally agree with you on regaining control..i deleted lots of bloat.

Root: Yes or No

Hello i am new here. I tied to search a bit somehow search is not working...
I wanted to ask you if you would recommend me to root. Please say also why. You cam recommend me some themes too.
Thanks, Mmjk3

For the themes i made you dont need root
But rooting is for prpfesional stuff like hacking games
Editing system files etc
Sent from my GT-S5830 using xda premium
do click me
Root is needed for removing Ads in Apps. So i recommend root.
Sent from my GT-S5830 using XDA App
I have and i don't see any dis advantages to it so you may as well as it makes your phone a lot faster and you can use different app that require root access. Hope this helps!
I use root for OC with setcpu! To backup my apps when i format my phone i use Titanium Backup so root is almost a must have! I recommend it to eveyone who wants to take the most of your phone.
And its less risky to root samsung devices cuz they can be brought back to factory condition by flashing stock firmware via ODIN.
Rooting isnt as risky as flashing (infact it isnt risky at all until you flash some wrong stuff).
Root your ace and Enjoy

I am 15. I have already flashed my phone with around 13 ROM's. Even bricked it sometimes. But, somehow managed to get it back to life. Chill, rooting is safe until you flash something. And do *NOT* overclock after rooting

I don't understand now. I thought if i root my phone then i MUST flash a new system. Then u saw a video who rooted his ace got superuser and kept the normal android...

my suggestion for this is to root, your phone can have more of the good stuff if you are rooted plus you can tweak your phone if you wanted to, just don't panic like the others when they brick their phone or any of those common questions here

when you root your phone, you can either still have the stock rom or you can flash a new rom like cm7 it doesn't necessarily mean when you root your phone you'll have to flash a new rom or kernel it depends on you, but people do flash a new rom/ kernel for a purpose, maybe to have their phone perform faster..

Rooting just installs an app called Superuser. The phone stays the same. But with that simple Superuser app, you can give your phone a complete makeover.
I highly recommend you root, but if you don't want to mess with it or don't know what you're doing, then don't. Or if you're going to, make sure to follow a guide step by step.
WHATEVER YOU DO STAY AWAY FROM ROM MANAGER. It will COMPLETELY break your phone to the point of no return.

Partly yes, but rooting install too the /system/xbin/su binary, he is required to have working root. That means Rooting installs an app called Superuser and /system/xbin/su.

I'm new from ns4g and need help

Ok so today I got my htc rezound
I'm already rooted.
My q. Is how can I get to ics 4.0?
Like step by step.
Your help is apreciated.
I'm on a stock Rom.
And no access to a laptop.
Wat do I need to flash?
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using xda premium
You can flash an ics Rom...such as Scoslers clean Rom 4.2....will need to flash a patch since you are probably on gb firmware, he has it listed in the op, make sure to read it and it will go smoothly.

Can you post a link and thanXx for the fast response.
I'm liking the resound community

Scott has a link and directions in Op with patch you will need.

The community is great just make sure to do the reading, most of the time any issue you may run into will have already been discussed and explained. A lot of new users just flash and go to the last post. Reading the Op usually explains everything you'll need to know. Welcome aboard.

Should I wait for the official ICS update?

should I wait for just root it?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using XDA
check the magic 8 ball.
Seriously???
that's really up to you - i went ahead and flashed the leaked official ATT ICS version and it's been working excellent. It does not have the Premium Suite but its got most everything else - and i also sideloaded the S-Note from the premium suite

If you can't understand what he said your better off waiting.

IMO, just wait and stay on GB with root. One thing I miss is stability and more RAM.
-Once you go NOTE, you'd say 4 inches a Joke
flash unofficial best there is...hands down!
Have you ever rooted before? Installed an alternate recovery like CWM? Flashed a ROM? Created a nandroid backup? Cleared caches? Formatted system or data? Used ADB? Used Titanium backup? Run non-stock launchers? Modified system files such as build.prop?
If not, search for everything I just listed, and start reading. None of it is really hard to do, but having a basic understanding of each of those moving pieces is going to be key to running a stable custom ROM.
Most custom roms have install instructions in the OP. If the basic steps there confuse you, then please don't rush anything and START READING!
Good luck!

I agree. The Unofficial 2.0b4 is a very stable, capable, and low-maintenance ROM to install and get your feet wet...
I just switched to the unofficial this weekend and have enjoying it quite a bit.

you can only install roms that are built for your specific device. Trying to install roms meant for other phones will likely break (aka "brick" ) your phone. So no, you cannot install the Galaxy Nexus ROMs on your Note
Luckily, our Note currently has several ICS options to pick from.
First, read up on how to install and use Clockworkmod Recovery (aka "CWM" ). Once again, only install the version that is mean for our i717 AT&T Note.
Then, as I said before, I recommend "The Unofficial v2.0 Beta4" as a stable first ICS rom. Go to its thread and start studying...

I wish to De-brand my SGS3 from T-Mo UK to debloat/streamline

Hi guys, looking to find out what stock image i want..
Hiya guys...I have recently aquired a SG3 -how do i know which stock ROM i want, im in the UK and am using Marks AMAZING Toolkits/w to root etc but have decided i want to flash a stock ROM first....the tool gives me a list of 4 to download...

Does that ROM include my necessary modem or are they a separate requirement....like for instance....radios
P.S. Thanks very much indeed
Modem and radios are the same. Yes it includes everything u need. Everything u have on stock minus most of the bloat.
There will still be bloatware, but u can delete it with titanium backup from playstore. Find a list with all the safe to remove bloatware (google search) first!
hope this helps mate

Help please stable KitKat

I am rooted and on ToxicSwamp MJ4.. I do not care about tripping Knox. I would like to know if there is a stable KitKat and if so how do I get there from here. Do I need to go back to just plain stock rooted MJ4 or is it stock unrooted MJ4? And do I use unrooted recovery or TWRP? And bootloader. .. and Kernal? Things are changing so quickly it seems and I'm getting further and further behind. As you can tell I'm also more and more confused.
If anyone can help I would appreciate it. Please try to excuse the noob-ness of it all.
Thanks
J

Check out the kitkatkiller thread. Go back a page or 2 from the end. Micmars has a good write up there that should help. Kitkatkiller is currently a test version but it is very reliable and I personally haven't had any issues. Be sure to thank those guys over there. It goes a long ways
