Hey there peeps
So I did a search in the forums, and couldn't find anything. I might be taking my Prime in today to get looked at, and I just want to know if rooting voids warranty?
Cause then I have to unroot
Unless you're taking it to an asus center, it shouldn't matter.
If sending it in to RMA, it is usually a good idea to unroot it, unless it's bricked, then there's really no way for them to see if you rooted it or not.
The only exception is if you use the Asus unlocker to unlock the Bootloader, then your device serial will be sent to a central server, and whether it will be fixed or not, will generally be on a case by case situation, but you voided your waranty by using said unlocker.
Cool. The reason why I asked is that I'm taking it to asus today. I have unrooted it, but the rootkepper app is still there. Should I uninstall it, or will it be fine? Thanks again!

If it were me, I would remove any trace of evidence that it was rooted.

I would remove it and any App that uses Root just to be safe.

Hey all. I hate nothing more than looking around for problems I have with my stuff and then finding a forum post that shows the exact problem and then someone saying, "fixed it" and nothing more. So this is how I fixed the problem.
Basically I have no clue if i actually flashed a new bootloader. I couldn't care less. What I did was flash this SBF file using RDS Lite (ITS VERY IMPORTANT TO BE VERY CAREFUL WITH SBFs - Easy bricking!)
found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1125944 First SBF in the thread.
By reflashing that I have successfully removed the "unlocked" text at the top when booting the phone. Did I actually unlock the phone? I have no clue. But I feel confident enough to walk into an ATT store tomorrow and ask for a replacement.
Is there anyone out there that knows if it's possible for them to see at this point? Or by flashing that SBF did I completely put the phone to stock and make it identical to before I unlocked/rooted? Thanks!

If you unlocked your phone you "blow" a fuse, its irreversible as it PHYSICALLY blows a fuse, nothing to do with software. They can check if you have unlocked the bootloader before by checking the values of the ReservedODM. To quote eval-,
"You can view the state of your ReservedOdm by looking at /sys/firmware/fuse/ReservedOdm, if you are root. Mine looks like this:
10000000000010001000100004000
(before unlock:
10000000000010001000100000000)"
As you can see, unlocking your phone cannot be undone, but it is highly unlikely they will check.

I'm only concerned because as I understand this voids the warranty, yes?
I'm going to go to an ATT store tonight an exchange this phone for another one (I've had some random crashes not caused by software). I assume my current phone will be sent to a repair factory somewhere. Will they check this then? Will they then bill my account for it? Or will I be safe?

You should be alright. They rarely do check the fuses.
I've sent mine in twice and they fixed it both times. my fuse was "blown" and I was not charged. you should be okay.

MAY void the warranty is the wording used.

Okay so I went to 2 different stores and they spread misinformation but the basic idea is I cannot do this exchange in store because it's a refurbished unit.
So they're sending me an alternate refurbished unit. And i'm sending this unit back.
Do I still have nothing to fear? Will they bill my account when I send them a device with the fuse blown?

You'll be fine, just flash gingerbread to remove unlocked. I sent my phone straight to Motorola under warranty and they repaired it without question. My issues were in no way related to flashing tho (fingerprint scanner and digitizer). I don't think you voided it from what I read you did, just put stock firmware back on it.

Okay, I did some searching and I didn't really find what I needed in my circumstance. I've read the threads about unrooting my thunderbolt buy my situation is a bit more specific than the generic unrooting procedures that I've seen.
So, through some weird circumstances my thunerbolt's screen doesnt turn on anymore. It ended up being dropped about a foot and the screen just died on me. there is no physical damage to the phone (i.e. the screen isn't cracked or bleeding). I already talked to Verizon reps about it, and I might be able to turn it in for warranty replacement. (If not, I'll just have to use my upgrae ). but to turn it for warranty I will obviously have to remove root. I haven't flashed anything to my phone for about 3 or 4 months so I know I didn't kill the screen by messing something up.
Here's the catch:
-my screen is dead so i cant really see what im doing on the phone.
-for some reason my computer cant recognize my phone. it keeps telling me that "the USB evice has malfunctioned".
-my SD card still reads in my card reader on my PC.
So basically I don't really have any idea how i could possibly go about unrooting my phone. Any ideas or suggestion are welcome. Maybe a donation to the contributors that help me? If not I will sadly have to leave the realm of the thunderbolt and I will use my upgrade If needed. (I would much rather keep my Thunderbolt than have to upgrade to like the nexus or something...I dont like them....)
Thanks in advanced

thanks
That i dont know. But if the screen isnt working, why unroot?

so that i can turn it in for a warranty claim
If it were me, I'd try the warranty route. If the screen/phone? wont turn on, how can someone tell if rooted? Worst case, you'd have to use your upgrade like you said. Hope you get it figured out, good luck

Can't they like hook it up to their computer or something like that and find that the phone is rooted?
Maybe, but didn't you say your PC doesn't recognize phone anymore? From what I've read, don't quote me on this, Big Red does not really do an in depth check before sending out for repair. Check for root, sure they do but again no screen/power, who knows then. Repair people could prolly care less. Again, nothing in stone here, just stuff I picked reading here n there.

Yeah. I went into the store and they shipped me a new warranty replacement phone. Although they did this, I'm still a bit apprehensive about sending it back while it's still rooted. So my original request still stands: I would like to know of a possible way to unroot it.
Thanks
saw the post today on the front page and wondering has anyone tried this "univeral" root that will not void the warranty: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1578908

This will only work on devices that store the unlock status in the misc image. I don't think that is the case with the Rezound.
ah, thanks for the info. I was hoping I can use it to play aroudn with diff roms and such wihtout voiding the warranty. but I guess not.
Was told by neighbor this doesn't work with the Rezound. He tried it several times.

I've known several people who warrantied their phones unlocked or relocked and had no problems. I've never found anyone that paid the sur charge because warranty was denied due to unlocking. Only found one person claiming it might have kept them from having warranty honored, and their info on shipping the old device back didn't add up.
Honestly though if my device was over a week old and tested it would be worth the risk.
Have any one notice this.
Used triangle away and my flash counter is 0
I wonder this has any impact for those who want to send their device for service/ warranty?

Read the thread for Triangle Away, it explains this.
Flash the stock rom for your region.
It will revert back to normal
Sorry to hijack your thread, but i noticed mine says the same, and i havent flashed it. However i have root access, so i guess that is enough to make it "modified".
Would this go back to normal, if i unroot it?
Funnily enough, I noticed this just today on mine - mine is an original unlocked phone, all I've done is root it.

Rooting it involves an "unauthorised" flash. You need to Triangle Away, pull the battery then revert to stock... As detailed in the Triangle Away post.
Just follow these two video in this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1710613
And you will be able to have your phones status say "Normal" instead of "Modified"
I just noticed this on my GNOTE II and was wondering can the service provider read this?
yes

Nosy mother f*ckers! My device MINE NOT YOURS! Now go sit in the corner.
On a serious note though I wonder if they can or will do anything due to this state being set as Modified.
they can deny warranty. you can easily revert to stock though
I have Assurion for that. Not worried about warranty claims. I was more worried about purposely affecting my internet speeds just to be ass holes. I could see Verizon doing that just to be Verizon.

oh, I thought you asked if they can read that if you send the phone to them
nah, I don't think they'll do that
sorry should have been more specific. I was meaning if they can digitally read it from their diagnostic software or whatever they have. I've never worked in a cell phone call center. Maybe I should go get a job at one just to scope out what they can and cannot find out by just a push of a button.
keep us updated
I recently purchased a T-Mobile LG G5. I am not too tech savvy, and since I'm a novice when it comes to rooting, I have a question I need help with.
I unlocked the bootloader and rooted my phone. Shortly after doing so, I noticed a blister in the paint of the phone's battery/charging port tray. This is the part I'm referring to. http://www.globaldirectparts.com/OEM-LG-G5-Accessory-Module-Loud-Speaker-Gold-p/lgg5hsg4gld.htm
I contacted T-Mobile, and they offered me a warranty replacement. That sounds great, but I'm bummed out. I have my phone customized exactly how I want it, screen protector and all. I can't figure out if I want to go through the hassle of unrooting my phone, relocking the bootloader, then doing the reverse to the new phone.
Anyhow, the answer to this one question will help me decide. There's always the possibility that the T-Mobile store rep will be unconvinced the blister, which has since then burst, was a manufacturer defect. It actually now looks more like a scratch. If I go ahead and relock the bootloader, but am denied the warranty replacement and have to keep my current phone, will I be able to unlock it again? Or should I save myself the hassle and shell out $70 to buy a new battery/charging port tray?
The common sense answer is to ignore the blemish and keep using my current phone. But I'm a perfectionist when it comes to these things and can't bring myself to do it.
EDIT: I'm going to leave this up rather then delete because the answer below may have valuable information for somebody else. But there was never a blister in the paint. I feel like such an idiot. The phone came with a plastic protective adhesive that was applied so well, I never realized it was on. That's what blistered.
You could relock the bootloader, and send it back. The question is rather whether they would find out, since i am not quite sure if they can see that the phone was ever rooted. If you decide to lock the bootloader again though, you can unlock it later on again, that is no problem. I would suggest unrooting it, and relocking the bootloade, if you can not ignore that blemish. I just got mine yesterday, and im debating whether i should root it again, because i am not certain that i could re lock it and recover the warranty. I only need to root it because of adaway, since there is no custom rom support yet.
..
Thanks for the reply. Read my edit to the original post. You're gonna laugh.

Is there a way to unlock a relocked BL?
I bought a used G5 H850. When I try to unlock BL on LG site, I get the following message "Device ID is unmatched. Please check your Device ID. Your account will be locked if you enter the wrong Device ID more than 4 times.".
Searching in the internet, it seems that I get this message because my phone had been unlocked once.

1.) the phone id was entered to get the unlock code
2.) you can find a unlock detector in a hidden service menu
:crying: if they want to see, they will be able to see!

as I know:
that’s right! At the first time the phone was unlocked; the id was registered as "unlocked" in the LG data pool! AND unfortunately the ID was related to the user account of first registration.
Best way will be to contact the first owner if you can.

How to relock the bootloader pal?
Im curius because, even if the bootloader is locked again, cant LG search among the IMEI's and find out that previously the device was tweaked?
Thanks!

While LG will know that the Unlock.img file was requested they wont know if you have used it or not. So they will need evidence that you used the file in order to warrenty void.
