I thinking about selling my note because I think this phone is going to end up like the att skyrocket and barely have any devolpment. I know the art note is really new but I'm really missing my galaxy s2 and all the development for the phone. Do you think there alot of devolpers out there who actually are interested in this phone and the hardware. I see alot of people trying to develop stuff for the phone and they don't even have the att galaxy note. I'm thankful for all the developers we have but I just see this phone getting alot of roms expescially ice cream sandwich roms.

Although this is my first Android phone, I am completely happy with the current Gingerbread experience. I didn't buy the phone for GB or ICS, and although ICS would be much nicer, I bought the phone for the niche hardware factor. If you'd like to go back to your old phone, do it. I hope you're happy with your decision. If you decide to stay, good for you as well. No one here, myself included, will try to convince you to stay on the Note. It's your decision, just do what you want.
Here's a quick tip: Flip a coin (with like heads for stay, tails for leave) and in the air you'll know what side you want. I forget where I learned that.
I love the Note and could never go back to a Galaxy SII personally.
How about getting the international version? Sure you only get Mini 4G but there is a lot more dev over there and better battery life . Persoanlly I am pretty happy with the note and of the couple of ROMs we have for our AT&T version I plan to keep going with this bad boy. My wife has the GSII and when I use her phone I have no regrets sticking with my note.

Don't get me wrong I love this phone but I wish it was a little quicker and this is my second note because the first one was really laggy and froze all the time but the speaker on that phone was really loud when watching videos on YouTube now my new one is faster but the speaker is very low and I took it to att and they said it was fine and couldn't give me another one for that reason.

Hrmmm...having both the Skyrocket and the Note and comparing the levels of development I can't really agree with your statement...There is plenty of active development on the Skyrocket, and it seems to be growing every week. It took about 3 months for things to really pick up over there, I would expect the same with the Note
I could see your statement being true of say the LG Nitro...there just isn't much going on with that phone.
In the end if that is your only hang up (wanting more dev) then yeah I would say sell and get an international version, or a GS2...the issue there is how much longer do you think those devs will stick around? Within this year many of them will move on to the next great thing

Buyers remorse period if your under your 30 days. they have to replace it.
Galaxy S - took a few months to get going
Infuse - took a few months to get going
Skyrocket - took a few months to get going
Note... I'm guessing the same pattern will apply
In the end, it's all up to the owner of the phone what he/she wants to do. I use my Note for my personal business phone and get a lot of use out of it. It's great for what I do and saved me from having to get a 7" tablet. I had the Skyrocket and absolutely loved that phone. My wife ordered the Note for my valentines gift and I gave her the Skyrocket (finally got her off the iCrap) - she's wanting a new ROM on hers now. If you like the Note, stick it out. At the very worst, you'll get a ICS eventually. If all you really want is ICS, then you may want to sell it off and save the cash for the GS3.
If you are selling it, how much you want for it?
I'm think about not selling my note..........

Oh yeah.......NO WAY IN HECK I'M SELLING!
I've considered selling mine as well... but only to fund the purchase of the international model. I love this device, but the improved speeds of the unlocked model are calling me. If they could fix the lag, I wouldn't even have considered it.
Naturally its your choice - do what works best for you!

Ive thought about doing the same exact thing to go for the international version. I bought mine outright for $650 from AT&T being my area is appose to be getting LTE in June. But mine runs just fine on 3G, so i dunno. Could my Note be a tad faster? Sure but its deff not slow. So i dunno. I already lost $35 on a re-stocking fee for exchanging my White Note in for a Black one lol.
ive thought about selling my Rogers Note to buy the unlocked one also. It already has ics roms.
but Toronto has LTE pretty much everywhere i go and I LOVE the speeds. I dont know what to do. I mean ICS will EVENTUALY come to i717 but N7000 will never do LTE
The first month or owning a phone is usually people who either want the phone really bad or people who want to be bleeding edge and usually dump the phone prematurely.
Most people are either waiting for the price to come down used or are waiting for their upgrade. Devs will come with time, it seems 2 months is pretty normal for things to take off.

Why do i read nothing but people saying the Note is laggy and they think no one is going to support it. Its been out not even a month. I came from the iPhone 4s which is always smooth plenty of support and quality games. I've used the gs2 for awhile and i gotta say this phone is pretty beastly. I'm on saurom with 1.83 overclock and i don't notice lag at all after its fully booted. After i got everything where i wanted it i don't miss any other phone ever and playing emulators even with a touch screen is a delight. i would neverswitch back at this point. Just for the fact i can't take a smaller phone seriously now. The international version sounds great but not for the price. This phone is more then enough for me. My only complaint is the screen gets dusty with this dumb speck case lol.

Well, because there is Lag. I am running the same setup on my GSII Epic Touch and my Note and even over clocked the Note is slower than the Touch. I hate that when I have 6 tabs loaded in Dolphin it often runs out of memory on my note and the scrolling is slow and the tabs don't always preload. Though it is not enough to say I would return it, it is enough to say "ARGH why the lag!".
So in answer to the OP, wait for your 29 days then decide. If you want to wait past your 30 days to see what the chefs come up with and end up not liking the options then you can always sell it and move to a phone that you think has better dev options.
-
Ok sorry i don't notice any but i also have no need for six tabs to be open. Do what you think is gonna benefit in the long run. this is my phone for the next two years in fourteen days our so after my thirty day and thus far i have been given no reason to return it.

When you guys say lag, are you meaning like you can count outloud "one one thousand" and it's taken maybe that long or half that long to open an application compared to X other phone?
I mean, I dunno. I'm not sitting here with three phones at the same time comparing each of them to each other. I came from a blackberry to a Captivate to an Inspire to a Thrill...those were laggy phones.
My buddy has a microwave that has higher watts. He was bragging about how much faster he could microwave burritos. I guess the 30 seconds he gets his food faster than me is a big deal to him. I suppose each of us puts importance in different things.
Now that i think about it my microwaves been a little laggy lately stuff is always cold. That's what i was understanding from all this myself. Why are benchmarks higher on the note overall if a sg2 is faster.or am i wrong?

There not higher on the note my gs2 was way faster the 220gpu in the note sucks.

If the latest rumors are true and we won't be seeing a TBolt for a while .... what else are you guys looking forward to?
I like what we have had in the rootability of the HTC line up, hoping to stay w/them, but just curious to what else you guys/gals have been looking at in addition to this?
I think this was the only phone i was really looking forward too... but now I may have to reconsider after todays news..
The "stealth" looks ok but I dont want another phone with hard keys ( coming from X)
Then there is the Bionic... lol yeah right unless moto goes the route of the Xoom or there is a breakthough in bypassing by then.
The top LG phone is going GSM at first I hear.. will be a while till we see a version.
Same with the Galaxy 2, Gonna be gsm at first...
This really sucks.
I'm not leaving VZW and nothing else that we know is coming appeals to me like the TBolt. Hopefully they will get their crap together sooner rather than later. Sometimes being first (lte phone) is frustrating and disorganized.

Does anyone know how the modified blur on the bionic compares to the standard blur?

Every review I've read says that the webtop is slow and frustrating with the Atrix. The Bionic is suppose to have half the ram, doubt it will be included at all or we would have heard about it.

I almost made a thread like this. I have been considering exploring other options since the Thunderbolt release didn't go as expected. The Thunderbolt seems like an almost perfect device, but may have some flaws or setbacks. Possible issues with battery, 4G, Skype, and no Netflix. Granted, I don't believe they ever said it would have Netflix, but it would have been nice. And an HDMI port! I still can't get over that one. Why would you not put one on there, every other powerhouse phone has one.
Some other similar phones coming to Verizon to consider would be the Droid Bionic, LG Revolution, and the Samsung 4G phone.
Here is a video comparing the 4 phones. I think the guy may have some of his specs mixed up, but it is a good side by side.

But the thing is just the wait for all these other phones is gonna be that much longer. I doubt another one will be out the gate before TB because it's already been advertised as our first. Don't get me wrong, I'll love HTC and Android forever, but the wait is just making me want to jump ship to the Palm Pre 2. Laugh all you want, but it's pretty much the next option for me from what's currently available.

Is MotoBlur the Moto desktop/launcher on phones? My BF has the DroidPro and when I mess around w/his phone I don't notice anything really different about how it operates - but I think I remember reading someplace that the Pro doesn't have Blur.
If it is a desktop/launcher, can't folks just replace it w/LPro or ADW or something?
I must be way off on what Blur actually is? (and I'm running late and too lazy to search at the moment, lol).

It's not that the other phones will be released before the TB, it's that they will be released not long after now. Since the release dates are now pretty close to each other, would it be worth it to wait for a different phone?
The LG Revolution should be Q2 the last I heard. It has a 4.3" screen, HDMI out, and should have Netflix out of the box. It will also be the first voLTE to Verizon, making it as some people call it, a "true" 4G phone.
While the phone does has a front facing camera, the back camera is only a 5MP and single LED flash. No kickstand. Since it is an LG, it will lack a good interface like Sense, or even Motoblur. LG normally builds quality phones though.
I'm giving up. Going to get a Droid 1, root and customize it. I'll use that and decide if I even want Verizon's service at this point.

metropcs has been selling lte phones for a few months now. but maybe not in your area....
As for leaving VZW i did that and got a galaxy s 4g on tmobile. i loved the price, and the speed when near a 4g tower.. however i still recieved dropped calls.. (the onle smart phone that did that to me on vzw was the iphone) and the 4g coverage is horrible and the speed is erratic in good coverage areas..
I had a falling apart droid 1 that I bought on launch day and needed something new I ended up getting a droid x off ebay and loading a custom rom and done.. now i feel i have plenty of time to wait out a decent lte phone... most of the other lte phones on vzw are scheduled to launch in second QTR so really the next 3 months...
I am going to wait for a little bit now...
I still have my D1 rooted, overclocked, customized, etc. But the thing is so outdated it lags with all the crap I have loaded on it. This puts me in a crappy situation because my contract has been up since january. I was waiting on this as my next phone. If I could find a cheap phone (aka under $50 D2, Dinc or DX), I would use that for the time being for the next few months. I just almost feel like I'm wasting time because I could have started the 2 year countdown for another phone by now.
red, i played with the atrix today, and while BLUR still blows nutt juice that phone had a sex like screen if you will and blur ran buttery smooth compared to the droid x or 2, it never studdered or got choked up and although quadrant doesnt tell you much, i watched the 3d test and the FPS where off the freakin charts sometimes i saw well over 100 and it maintained a constant 60+ easily, given this phone had absolutely no apps running or even installed other than att ****ware. i was truly impressed and downloaded a couple of games while i played with it, the tegra really shines on graphic intensive stuff, i also played with the docking unit and while ive read production units dont have multi touch the display did and i must say that it was impressive. first time i have been impressed with moto that much since november of 09 with the droid 1. Hopefully when we get some rock solid info on the bionic it will have the 1gb of ram and not 512, in talking to some knowledgeable peeps about they seem to think that this could be possible since it will be basically the same as the atrix and they seemed to think that the 512mb of ram was a misprint or just a wrong quote entirely, if so, i may say **** it and go with the locked bootloader just to have such a kick ass phone. the camera was either really impressive or the screen just made it look that good, all around i would say that the the atrix is currently the most dominant phone in the android world. galxy s2 looks nice but ive already fell for that once with the fascinate(btw is still eclair in stock for FYI) but still uses the over saturated SAMOLED with the same resolution something like 800x480 and that is getting to be old news especially after playing with atrix today, if you lose hope on the bolt, the bionic will def be a winner in my book bootloader and all. screw it................well maybe not with the bootloader, depends whether i get a semi when i play with it or not the first time.
No offense to eris owners, but if you really want to give up and set the bar extremely low so you will be satisfied with any new phone you get, i suggest get an eris. lol i laugh at people who say their rooted eris will smoke the DInc, ive owned both, and if i stuck a rocket up the micro usb port on the eris it still couldnt catch the trusty old DInc. Now, back to the search for strippers and cocaine
Yeah the 512 ram on the Bionic is a turn off. I thought it was supposed to have 1gb, but motorolas website says 512. It seems like most of verizons phones always fall short of the other networks counterparts. Even my HTC Touch Pro had less ram than all the other Touch Pros on every network.

(no more sliders for me).... although I like the samsung galaxy s 4g i was concerned it did not have a message indicator light. I also stopped by an att store and played with an atrix and it was pretty sweet for the few minutes i spent with it...
either way it does look like another 3 months before we have any real phones from vzw ... I still think they are delaying these phones until they have there new lte pricing laid out... I don't think for a minute they will have unlimited lte on anything.

It'll either be a DInc, stay w/my Eris and keep working w/Tazz's fine ROM's or buy a B&N Nook Color and hack it (because I CAN! lol). I feel the need to spend $$ (I don't have) for no reason
EDIT: Out of curiosity, why would somebody buy a phone on eBay w/a bad ESN? I see phones FS on there w/bad ESN's and wondering what you would do with one? Just use it for development or parts?
You can usually use those phones on cricket and other services like that. Some people also buy them for parts.

Hey guys, I'm new to the forum and this is my first post. I've been lurking around for the past 2 months learning everything I can about android and the Atrix. Prior to this, I've never given much thought about smartphones.
I passed up the iphone 4 in janurary cause it was too late into it's life cycle so I've decided to go with Android. I want a phone that will last till the end of my contract (3 years). The Atrix caught my eye with its Tegra 2 duel core (Big Nvidia fan) which I naturally thought would be a perfect candidate.
I was really set on buying this phone up until today when My dad visited a Bell store. It turns out that particular store didn't even get one sale. It's in a decent location too (Missisauga, beside Toronto).
My guess is that if the phone is not selling then Motorola probably won't support it for long. And with the locked bootloader, I'd be safer getting an Iphone which will probably get more updates that this for sure. I don't know if I can last 3 years with the locked bootloader and Moto's lack of updates. Probly a big gamble to whether it'll get 2.4. It's a real shame considering this phone is a major leap over all the other ones out right now.
What do you think guys? Asking this in a Atrix forum probably isn't the best idea but I'm sure some of you went through this too before you shelled out all that cash.
Keep in mind I live in Canada and only have access to a limited amount of high end phones. If I decide not to get this, then it's the Iphone 5 or galaxy s2 for me.
It's a flagship phone, of course it'll get updated...

Hardware wise its an amazing phone. Software wise it blows. Well, that is until you root it, and freeze the bloat and install a different launcher. After that then its super snappy and tears through tegra games and movies. However if you like to tinker with roms and such then I can't recommend it. It's the reason why mine is going back in exactly 8 days. No dev support for it due to it having a locked boot loader and its gonna be crickets in this forum soon. Locked boot loader means that if moto decides not to upgrade the Atrix soon or at all then you have no way of updating it yourself. So thats the reason mine is going back. Remember if you could care less about custom roms and could care less about being stuck on 2.2 for who knows how long then yes you will probably like the Atrix. I'm moving on to more "open" waters.

Sure, we'll get 2.3 maybe even 2.4, but what about a third one...? I doubt it.
2.4 is coming out in a few month and that'll be barely into the 3 year's of death I have to sign.
Hows it selling in the U.S? Does anyone know?

Get the Canadian Atrix.
Bought it, LOVED it. Had to unlock it, it worked and now I'm using it on FIDO.
All this stuff about the bloat, I will say I've had the phone since the 17th of march, and have played with it these last 4 days and I tried all launchers major launchers, all this talk of "bloat" rang very untrue to me, at least with the Bell version of the phone..
The smoothest one yet is the stock one. LauncherPro was great but the moment you turn on a Live Wallpaper that thing lags up like nothing else.
Buy it. You will not regret it. ESP the battery life. 4 days and counting, only have charged it 2 times with HEAVY heavy usage. Very good stuff.
The reason why it lagged so bad is because you're supposed to freeze blur from running in the background while you run another launcher at the same time. But Im sure you already knew that.. I agree with battery life though. Its great but thats still part of my hardware argument.

Honestly, even after having frozen stuff.. Motoblur home is still the smoothest when using a live wallpaper.
Having said that, do you really want a live wallpaper? (maybe yes, maybe no..) either way. All this talk about bloat, makes a TINY impact on performance. This phone is a beast, and it handles like so.
The HDMI/Webtop features are ridiculous. Very nice.
I have the galaxy s2 but still in my return period. Just wondering if I should go switch for the vivid or skyrocket? I don't live in a LTE Area but sounds like they get better speeds?
I love the support and Rome that I can get on the sgs2.

The Vivid is currently NON-flashable
It has S-ON and unless someone finds a new exploit this phone will never get anything more then temp-root
It is also MUCH slower then the SGS2
I bought the skyrocket. Right after buying the S2. SO...KEEP THE S2! I took the skyrocket back after two days and got the S2 back. I felt is was to thick, heavy, screen lagged, and the screen wasn't as sharp as s2. So in my opinion the s2 is a much better phone.

Forget both of them and get the iPhone 4s, then come back and tell us awesome iOS is! Oh god I just threw up in my mouth, I get nauseous when I get near an iPhone. iOS also makes my ED flare up really bad as well.... Stick with the SGS II and keep your upgrade. Save it for a rainy day or when the SGS III hits the market.
S2. I was in the same dilemma. I don't regret getting the S2 at all. Amazing phone.
Add to that, look at the ICS progress already over at the i9100 forums.
I have the vivid and I am probably returning it for a sgs2 today. The phone is too heavy, the screen really is too big and the battery life is terrible. And after 2 days I already miss flashing roms since I'm not too fond of sense.
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using xda premium
I'd say stay with the S2. It is a better phone than the its Qualcomm sisters in my opinion (and technically speaking, besides the lack of LTE). I do not regret my choice of the S2 at all. Currently running the MIUI 4.0 rom and getting the best battery life I have ever had with any phone.
This is the first phone that I haven't thought to myself, "crap, I should have gotten this one instead" or "I'm going to upgrade when such and such phone comes out". And I am one of those people who like to always have the latest and greatest, but I plan on keeping this phone for a long time.
S II hands down... if you want LTE then you can get the skyrocket but that doesn't seems as good on performance as the S II

yeah I think HTC has totally dropped the ball....I have not seen a single phone they have come out with has impressed me AT ALL. They have slid down in the ranks to me right under Motorola who I only loathe a little less than the iPhone. Okay I am a Samsung fanboy......but I am okay with it
Thanks to all you guys! I was looking for input and my thought was to keep my galaxy 2. Appreciate all the responses!

Go check out the skyrocket forum, they are actually trying to PAY devs to buy the phone and switch over. If you want lte and don't mind stocking with stock, then go for it I guess.

You come to an S2 forum and expect people to give you an un-biased answer? Ya right...
Try it out and see, there's nothing else you can do. See which one you like, if you get better speeds with the Vivid then get that otherwise keep the SGSII. Read up as much as you can on both devices, see which interface you prefer more, what feels better in your hand and overall performance, only you can determine that.
No one else on these boards can make up your mind for you except yourself, these threads make me scratch my head..
All I can say is try each out before you make a decision.
I bought a Vivid. Returned because of horrible problems with data. When it got data, it was fast. When it got data. That wasn't very often.
I got a Skyrocket. I'm probably returning it because of horrible problems with data. When it gets data, it's fast. When it gets data. That isn't very often.
There's some kind of problem With AT&T and LTE phones. Eventually it'll get better. I think I'm going to get a S2 for now.
Obviously Samsung's new device(GS3) will change smartphones for sure. Once it releases, how many people here are switching to it once they have an available update?
I have until about March to make my decision. Im on Verizon and dont plan on changing, so i plan on choosing the 32gb model for only $50 more than the 16(worth it in my opinion because i can double that amount thanks to HTC leaving us a wonderful 32gb card w/ tbolt)
Most of the specs impress me, although im kind of wishing that a couple new 'top of the line' 4.0 devices release, just to give me more options, because honestly the S3 is the only phone on verizon(will be on verizon) that truely impresses me (Galaxy Nexus= no micro sd which puts 32gb card to no use, and cameras significantly better on S3).
Well, let me know! How many people plan on making the switch? Also, why or why not??

Pre-ordered first day love my thunderbolt been with it since day one but ready for something new plus my USB charging port no longer works and my volume rocker up crapped out on me ( dropped phone ) with those two reasons and the fact that I can't flash radios its time for an upgrade
Sent from my HTC ThunderBolt using xda premium
True, sounds like your thunderbokt has seen its day.. i just wish my upgrade date was available sooner, 7 more months with my phone might be alittle harder than i thought. the possible ics update might bring a new flavor to the phone, but i am also getting tired of it, as much as i love it
Sent from my ADR6400L using xda premium
i would if i can keep my unlimited data plan, but thanks to verizon i think i will be with my thunderbolt for a long time.
I'm switching, luckily I had an upgrade available on one of my other phones on my account. And I was able to keep my unlimited data.

ordered one for my wife to replace her thunderbolt....her phone constantly freezes and apps are always crashing. she'll be much happer with the SGIII
i will be also. my upgrade is in august and i cant wait. im sure since i am not preordering i wont even be able to get one for months but oh well. it was either this or the nexus one which id much rather have the gs3 any day... im excited just hopefull theyll have some in stock
I know it's too late, but this info might help others down the road. I got 2 T-Bolts the day they came out last March and my upgrade date on both was something like November 12th. I spoke to 3 different reps at various points and told them all I am a long time Verizon customer and do not want to lose my unlimited data. I want my upgrade dates moved up so I can get 2 GSIII's now and keep my data and all 3 were fine with moving my upgrade date up--no checking with a supervisor or anything.
I know a lot can depend on who you get, but sometimes if you just call and ask you may be surprised.
Hope this works for someone moving forward.
they definately did not help me. they wouldnt push up my upgrade date from august 8 to now. sucks you would think after being a verizon customer for 12 years they may try to help you out a little bit more. it just makes you not want to give them your money at all but damn i wanna get rid of my bolt finally and get a gs3 for something new. the only reason i truly rooted my thunderbolt was to get better battery life and some customization of course.... damn i want a new phone
I advise anyone considering a GS3 from Verizon,
That you should think about and thank Verizon for the only GS3 with a locked bootloader....

Heh that's not surprising. Verizon is notorious for locking bootloaders.

Honestly, I just switched to Verizon from Sprint. Going from my Nexus S 4G to the HTC Thunderbolt. The one thing I miss is ICS.
I plan on going to the GS3 later though
Don't worry we are scheduled to get ics this month or next from what they have said anyhow. I don't know if it has been delayed though.

Yup, that was my first question when the guy handed the phone to me. "Will it have the ICS update?"

Haha, yeah no real big surprise I suppose, though it was the first Samsung device I can think of to get such "special" treatment.
Despite Verizons' efforts to lock it down, it only took devs a day to achieve Root and recovery for it.
So I don't suppose that should stand in anyone's way of their decision now.
Update: still have 6 months with this thing, but i was able to preorder a nexus 7! Hopefully that keeps me occupied. Latest android software, pure google, quad core... I think i can last 6 more months

It'll get bypassed in no time. I wouldn't worry about it. So far the only thing this Tbolt has going for it is the camera and music software. SRS with Sony Xtreme Bass Ear buds sounds pretty awesome. That aside this is my second Tbolt in 6 days. My first one did a reboot on Saturday as I left Verizon so I figured it was just a fluke or update. The second time was when I was on my way home from college. Then Tuesday it boot looped then just sat at the HTC boot logo.
Yesterday I bought the GS3 (full retail, ouch!), and honestly I don't think it's that great. Yes it looks great, and the display is awesome, but I got so used to the awesome battery life of the TB with the extended battery, that I took it for granted. I barely used my phone today and I got down to 15% after a full day, whereas my TB would have been around 60-75% remaining. I also noticed that because it's so thin and slick, it's difficult to easily hold without it slipping.
I'm actually leaning towards returning the GS3 and going back to the TB.

I thought about grabing one, but couldnt let go of the unlimited data or pay retail prices. I would love to have a device with the latest android but is it really worth giving up unlimited data? imho not so much.

Hey Guys,
I know there are probably tons of threads such as this but I would like some concrete feedback from previous S2 owners and new S3 owners as to why the S3 really stands out. I saw a few threads and did enough searching to find out many reasons as to whether the S3 is truly a worthwhile upgrade or not. I'll be honest with you all, I love Android and I love my SGS2. Have had it ever since the launch date and I still don't see any phone out there that has quite truly been this staggering in terms of performance, user customizability and dependability. Sure it has had few hiccups and I have had a few bad ROMS installed before (particularly on Gingerbread) but I haven't had trouble with any ICS roms that I have used so far and I love how this phone handles so well even though I have put it through some extreme loads.
I have seen the S3 being sold in huge numbers within Toronto, even more than the S2 already and I am surprised because I think the 4S is truly a magnificent phone on its own. I'd appreciate your opinions and mostly would welcome previous S2 owners who upgraded this year to the S3 as to why they did so. I'll keep the S2 most probably even if I get the S3 because I truly adore this phone so I am not sure whether the S3 really would cancel the use of my S2 or not. I need good battery life and 2100mAH is a huge improvement and I hear the new phone can go the whole day even with extreme browsing, not sure if its true or not.
I don't play games, I browse, email and perform some normal trades, so it has to be a good premium phone to replace my S2. I don't see any phone out there other than the 4S and SGS3 that competes well against my S2. I'll be okay with stock roms for now, will root for sure but don't necessarily need a custom ROM already. I know the community and its ROMs will grow everyday and finally with Jelly Bean, someone nail it and get us the perfect ROM for the S3 so I'd be okay if there aren't many options on the list of custom roms at this moment.
Yes.
I would honestly just stick with the S2 and wait for the S4 whenever it comes out. Your phone is only a year old, take some more time to enjoy it. Unless you play games, really demand a larger screen or just simply have money to blow, then there's no reason to upgrade so fast.

The 2GB's RAM is more than enough to make you jump ships. As a former S2 owner, I would definitely do it. Dev support for the S3 has picked up really fast. With CM10 previews being available now, i can only imagine how far this phone will go. Consider that the JB source code has only been out for what...a week or two? This phone will really go far.
Having owned (and still own) both, I'd say you're fine with the GS2 if you have no complaints.
For me, I had 'upgraded' (downgraded) to the GSM Galaxy Nexus, and gave my GS2 to the wifey... and regretted it so much that I bought the GS3 as soon as it came out.
The first thing I said was "ahhh thank God, feels like I have my phone back"
It's nice to have the latest and greatest, don't get me wrong - but I saw no short comings on the GS2, and the few new features of the GS3 are cool, but nothing to lose sleep over.
I'd say wait it out, if you don't have money to blow. If you do, then get it! The GS3 is every bit as good as the GS2 and then of course there is the extra RAM, slightly more internal memory, new features, etc.
but it's a toss up, honestly.
Also I should mention that I prefer the build quality on the GS2, the back cover and design was perfect IMO. Plus capacitive buttons are better than physical (and software buttons IMO)
This is not to take away from the GS3 AT ALL, the truth is the GS2 was simply the best phone ever made prior to the GS3.
Which is just another testament to the amazing GS2.

Thanks everyone for the awesome replies. I'll wait and look out for more suggestions in this thread. I am keen on the S3 and while I can afford it, I also am aware that having two phones of almost the same calibre is a waste so will have to get rid of the S2 if I do get the S3. The only things I am mostly fond of in the S3 is the new development behind all the ROMs and how everyone's making such a great effort into getting the best package out there to all S3 owners. I don't like too big of a phone and the S2 is just as big as it can do for me. I remember S2X and other LTE phones based on S2 came out after a few months of the I-9100 launch date so maybe I can get the second variant come fall/winter time.

The battery life improvement alone is almost worth it for me. Beyond that, the improvement is incremental. If you're not desperate for the HD screen and you are ok with the battery life on the GS2, I don't think you'll be blown away by the GS3
If you like the s2 as is, keep it. I think its sleeker, nicer to hold, and plenty fast.
Honestly if I were to do it again I wouldn't have bothered with the s3.
Sure its a bit faster, has lte and has a bigger screen, but it really isn't that big of an upgrade.

This is about as spot on as spot on gets!
I'm in the same boat and was set to return mine but work sent me out of town and I missed my window. :crying:
Other than that after my ICS update on the SGS2 a battery calibration kicked my battery life into overdrive and is giving me great usage.
Another thing that hasn't been mentioned yet is the lack of Mass Storage on the SGS3. Its my biggest gripe and I really miss it. MTP can suck eggs till the chickens come home to roost. I use my phones alot for everything (play - work [office/field environment]) so its a real problem when I can't preview my pics on the phone through my computer when connected with my SGS3. I have to copy everything over to the PC first then filter through everything deciding on what I am/not going to keep/rename/edit. Also some people have reported having issues when trying to copy a large amount of files and/or large file sizes timing out when trying to transfer to the SGS3. I get that alot of the younger teens/early 20somethings don't care about this but I want my phone to do for me not work against me.
Sorry for my diatribe there...I could tell you how I really feel.
In short you are not missing out on anything if you don't get the SGS3. Don't worry about Jellybean either, the SGS2 WILL get it. Heck most likely even the HTC HD2 is getting Jellybean.
i would stick with the s2
Honestly its a minor upgrade. Would I go back to the S2 though? Hell No!

The Gs2 was an amazing phone for its time. Almost perfect. The gs3 is an incremental step above that. But it's hard to improve on perfection

The HD2 already has Jelly Bean bro !
man, tough decision even after its been debated 1000 times.
For me, the s2(epic touch 4g) was THE BEST PHONE I EVER HAD. Everything about that phone was just perfect. The display, even at 800x480 was amazing. Amazing camera, fast as hell, GREAT for gaming, great speaker. Even given its so so reception. Still the best phone ever to me.
I went ahead and took the plunge and upgraded to the s3. It is indeed a great phone. Its fast as hell, gets INSANE battery life, has a higher res screen which looks awesome (though because of the pentile arrangement viewing angles are not as good as the s2). Its got a great speaker and some real slick software features.
Heres what I miss about the s2. I miss the camera more than anything. The camera on the s3, while not a bad camera, to ME leaves something to be desired. The camera on the s2 was awesome.
I also miss gaming. its not as strong on the US s3 as it is on the s2. Mostly because of the increase in resolution. I feel like the s2 exynos was more than powerful enough to push the display on the s2. I dont feel the same way with the s4(krait) core and the s3. It just does not seem to perform as well. But that could be due to a number of things.
My opinion? If you got the money, then do it. If not, the s2 is STILL one of the best phones out there.
Im happy with my purchase for the most part. The s2 was a epic phone, the s3 is a minor improvement in my opinion

I would have to agree with seoulstyle on this one. Really the only thing I have noticed is biggerscreen, clairity of screen and battery life. I find it really difficult to type on the g3 vs my skyrocket in landscape mode. I had the s2, skyrocket and now s3. So if you have the cash to fork out do it, otherwise just wait. I haven't found the s3 usefull enough to say "man I glad I spent the money to upgrade to the s3" :-(
Dont get me wrong I really like the phone, but I paid the no commit price so its harder on the wallet.

If you got the money and more than one line with upgrades than do it.
It's a very nice phone, it not a huge upgrade, but an upgrade indeed.
If you really think about it from here on out how much better can a phone get. It's always gonna be small upgrades moving forward.
Well at least that's how I see it.
This phone is a beast and I personally like everything about it, so much that I haven't even had the urge to root and flash anything.
Maybe when JB is stable enough, but I'm actually happy stock.
Only real problem I've had is signal drops here and there, but I'm sure that will get fixed with a different modem or something.
Powered by the SGSIII
Thanks for all the replies guys, really appreciate all your efforts into helping me decide. So far I'm inclined to stick with the GS2 since its quite frankly one of the top 3 phones out there and I am so used to it too. I just wanted to experience Rogers LTE since I do have 6 gigs of data to play with. I also would welcome the longer battery life since the GS2 is a thirsty model with every single ROM/Kernel out there. I am going for the 2000mAH extended battery to see if there is a huge improvement or anything and if there is, then I'll stick with the phone till a new version of S3 comes out or better yet next year's S4.
Well, I really like the S3, it's a very smooth device. But, I think I'd wait on the developer community a little longer before deciding whether to upgrade.
