[Q] ad-hoc on xperia ray 2.3.4 - Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini, Mini Pro, Xperia Pro, A

Good day!
I would like to share the 3G network from my iPad 2 to my Xperia Ray phone.
So, I used PdaNet app on iPad2 for sharing. But my Xperia Ray always could not find the SSID of iPad2.
After searching some discussed thread, someone says PdaNet app shared network by Ad-Hoc.
I tried http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1253087 steps on my Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray, but it seems not work.
The WIFI could not see any AP after the modification (It could see some APs before the modification).
And then, I also tried
http://mobilecon.info/fix-wifi-adhoc-problem.html
http://pogotsai.blogspot.com/2011/08/xperia-mini-pro-sk17i-root.html
All failed....
Does anyone enabled the ad-hoc on Ray ,arc S ,mini successfully?
Information of Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray:
Module number: ST18i
Android version: 2.3.4
Version: 4.0.2.A.0.42
Description of attached files:
“wpa_supplicant.conf” = /system/etc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf
“wpa_supplicant.conf2” = /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf
And these are the file I modified:
“wpa_supplicant.conf_m” = /system/etc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf
“wpa_supplicant.conf2_m” = /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf
The permission of files:
/system/etc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf is rw-r--r--
data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf is rw-rw-r--
Or if there some other solution for sharing iPad2 3G network by infrastructure mode not Ad-Hoc mode?

I would like to provide more information:
The original wpa_supplicant on Ray is v0.6.10.
# wpa_supplicant -v
wpa_supplicant -v
wpa_supplicant v0.6.10
And, it seems to use "TI Station Driver (1271)"
Because of I get some message when I execute wpa_supplicant:

[-p<driver_param>] [-b<br_ifname>] ...]
drivers:
wext = Linux wireless extensions (generic)

And I found some information from TI.

http://e2e.ti.com/support/low_power_rf/f/307/t/112312.aspx
and
http://www.olsr.org/?q=olsr_on_android
But I could not find wpa_cli in my Xperia Ray.
Could someone provide one for my testing?
Thanks a lot!!!!

tun driver for our hero

Hi!
For the ones interested in openvpn or vpnc I attach the tun.ko module.
Have fun.
Here is the tun driver package. Think you should have a rooted device to make use of it.
To install:
1. copy it to your <sdk>/tools folder
2. adb push hero-tun-module-signed.zip /sdcard/update.zip
3. Type 'adb shell reboot bootloader' to enter the bootloader.(or turn it off and then, holding back button, turn it on)
4. Type 'fastboot boot cm-hero-recovery.img' - the device will now boot into the recovery image.
5. Select the option to 'apply update.zip from SD card'. Let it complete.
6. select reboot
Hi!
Good idea and thanks for packaging it. I just made a quick shot ;-)
Will add this to 1.2.
P

Thanks gogh57,
insmod ran OK.
installed to /dev/tun
vpn is now Trying to connect...
I'll have to check the VPN parameters.
Will let you know.
Brilliant work, many thanks.
I've check and verified my vpn parameters, but get a failed to connect. I'll keep reading and trying and will let you all know.
For info, all I have done - just in case I have missed a fundamental step...
1. Installed VPN connections from the market
2. Configured a network to connect to
3. copied tun.ko to SD card
4. ran adb shell to get on phone then insmod tun.ko - no errors, and shows with lsmod
5. tried to connect.
Getting closer....!

How to install it on my Hero?
Hi all,
I have the same problem. Currently using Modaco's 1.5.1 and I do not want to move to 2.0 as it seems that it does not offer any advantage and I am happy until now with 1.5.1.
I am trying to install tun.ko which exists in system/lib/modules (installed with Modaco's ROM). When installing the tun.ko, I get "Exec format error" with dmesg:
# dmesg | grep tun
<3>[152396.817749] tun: version magic '2.6.27-a5504199 preempt mod_unload ARMv6
' should be '2.6.27-44690c1a preempt mod_unload ARMv6 '
How can I find the 2.6.27-44690c1a version ?
Or else I will wait for Bryan's tests and if successful, I will move to 2.0
Thanks for any help
Yiannis
<EDIT> - Moved to Modaco 2.1, Insmod runs OK, VPN-Connect does not connect. I'll dig more and let u know
Newby question, but what can you do with it?

Look forward to it, I had a quick go following the link you gave, but it *****ed (unsurprisingly) at the location of the tun device.
Well done for cracking it

From Wiki....
A virtual private network (VPN) is a computer network in which some of the links between nodes are carried by open connections or virtual circuits in some larger networks (such as the Internet), as opposed to running across a single private network. The Link Layer protocols of the virtual network are said to be tunneled through the transport network. One common application is to secure communications through the public Internet, but a VPN does not need to have explicit security features such as authentication or content encryption. For example, VPNs can also be used to separate the traffic of different user communities over an underlying network with strong security features, or to provide access to a network via customized or private routing mechanisms.
Simply put, for most people I imagine, it allows us to connect to work.

E: ConnectBot - android market - the terminal app I use on my Hero. You can do all this from an 'adb shell' on your PC.
1. Flash the 2.2 ROM (others probably work, but the correct tun.ko for the linux build is included in the ROM) from Ref C.
2. Download the latest version (VPN_Connections_v09.apk at time of writing) from get-a-robot-vpnc (Ref D), and install on your Hero.
This provides the vpn modules that are needed.
However I could not get this UI to work on the Hero. It kept hanging, sometimes asking for the password, sometimes not.
Note: the android market version is still 0.6
3. Install the tun.ko module with a script, or manually. This needs to be done each time you boot the Hero.
The script is:
'prep' script ( the following 3 lines: )
-----------
insmod /system/lib/modules/tun.ko
mkdir /dev/net
ln -s /dev/tun /dev/net/tun
Install tun by typing:
sh /sdcard/prep
or typing the 3 commands. (you need to be root, to do this)
(I placed my script on the microSD card, /sdcard/prep)
You can call this script anything you like.
4. Make an 'vpn.conf' file .
IPSec gateway vpn.aa.bb.com
IPSec ID youroffice
IPSec secret yourofficepassword
Xauth username youruid
Place it on /sdcard/vpn.conf
See Ref B for details.
You can call this configuration file anything you like.
5. Make a 'go' script, like this (one long line)
/data/data/org.codeandroid.vpnc_frontend/files/vpnc /sdcard/vpn.conf --script /data/data/org.codeandroid.vpnc_frontend/files/vpnc-script --pid-file /sdcard/vpnc-pid --no-detach --debug 1
Put it in a file /sdcard/go .
N.B. The 'go' script refers to the 'vpn.conf' file which you created earlier.
See Ref B for details.
You can call this script anything you like.
(Note: VPN Connections (Ref D) installs its files to /data/data/org.codeandroid.vpnc_frontend )
6. Start VPN by typing:
sh /sdcard/go
hopefully you will see
# sh /sdcard/go
sh /sdcard/go
Enter password for [email protected]: <this is where you type in your password>

[Q] OpenVPN on stock (rooted) 10.1 3G - how to get/create tun.ko

Hi!
I successfully use(d) OpenVPN with the available tun.ko versions on my Galaxy Tab.
I tried to move that to the brand new European version of the 10.1 (no V, GT-P7500, Kernel 2.6.36.3, [email protected] #1, buildnr HMJ37 P7500XXWKG9, baseband XXKG7, ). But obviously, there is no tun.ko in the kernel and the available versions of tun.ko do not work with the 3.1 Honeycomb kernel.
Does anybody has compiled a tun.ko for this kernel already or can guide/tell me, how to do this myself?

Moving to Q&A
I am searching badly for a solution tu use PPTP VPN on my Galaxy Tab 10.1 (no v) 3G, too!
In the meantime, I learned that tun.ko is part even of the stock kernel. Nevertheless, I did not get it running with the setup I used on my Galaxy Tab.
Are you sure? I did a search for the file but nothing was found.
if preshoot already upload his git sources, I can do this for you guys.
Just wait for him,to upload his latest sources...

That would be nice.
richardtrip here told me, that tun.ko is already in the stock kernel.
I am presently trying to find out what detail makes problems in the connection to my Linux server. A connection is established, but not fully and yet not useable.
Hi!
I did some experiments with my OpenSuse 10.3 server and the Tab 10.1.
With the tun-device, I can establish a connection. But the 10.1 does not receive its address in the VPN network, ifconfig does not show the tun-device as device.
The same configuration which works flawlessly on my Galaxy Tab does not work on the 10.1.
Perhaps somebody is experienced with the OpenVPN configuration in this case.
Some more findings:
The device used is tap, but tunctl must be called to create a persistent tapx.
tunctl expects /dev/net/tun which must be either created by a symlink (/dev/tun exists, mkdir /dev/net, ln -s /dev/net/tun /dev/tun) or must be added with parameter -f on commandline.
It also seems that ifconfig has different parameters than on my Galaxy Tab. Starting OpenVPN from commandline, it complains about route/ifconfig with wrong parameters.
With special thanks to Amarok, I could get his solution also working on my Tab 10.1:
Install Busybox from Market
Install OpenVPN Installer from Market and install to
binaries: /system/xbin
route/ifconfig: /system/xbin/bb
Create /system/xbin/bb with Root Explorer or from shell
Create link to busybox for ifconfig and route
ln -s /system/xbin/busybox /system/xbin/bb/route
ln -s /system/xbin/busybox /system/xbin/bb/ifconfig
Check permissions for /system/xbin/openvpn, it should be 777 (rwxrwxrwx)
Using the openvpn binary from my galaxy tab (copy into /system/xbin, chmod 777) got OpenVPN finally working.

The last step ? From you which tab did you copy openvpn ? Is it possible to get the specific openvpn. Still not working on my side.

So the tun.ko with stock works? When I run openvpn from either cli or openvpn settings tab it'll connect but I get no ip address. The only errors I'm getting are " Options error: Unrecognized option or missing parameter(s) in [PUSH-OPTIONS]:4: route (2.1.1)". So is using the attached openvpn binary all it took?

What about tun.ko???? I run the same GT as you though 7500 3.1 ??
As already stated, tun.ko is part of the stock firmware.
Sent from my Galaxy Tab 10.1 using Tapatalk.
I dont find tun.ko on my GT when I search with root explorer..
my tun.ko is located in /data/media/openvpn/openvpn/tun.ko
On my Tab, a separate tun.ko is not required. OpenVPN works anyway, as that seems to be an integral part of the kernel.
I'm trying to use the openvpn settings as well but when I try to connect I get
"Fatal:Cannot allocate TUN/TAP dev dynamically"
and when I try to insmod tun.ko using adb, I get this error:
"init.module 'tun.ko' failed <Exec format error>
I'm using pershoot's most up to date kernel (yesterday) with the tun.ko file that was included with it. I also tried with the one supplied in this thread as a .rar file and I received the same errors.
Any ideas?
Nearly there
Hey everybody.
I also have some problem with openvpn connection.
At first i turn on openvpn the start the configuration (at the same time i started a ping on my server: ping 300.300.300.300 -t)
After that my ping works for 12 - 14 times. After the 12 + 14 times then it shows "out of time" error message.
What have i done wrong? (Every 5 seconds at the bottom of my tab it shows "myvpn.openvpn: Connected"
Preferences:
Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Rooted
Android 3.1
Newest Busybox
Done everything from the tutorial of this topic
Update: When i turn the tun module on then the ping only works for about 9 times.
After about 20 failed pings, the pink works again for the amount i wrote.

Solved: WiFi TXpower app error issue with missing iwconfig file

Want to save power when WiFi Tethering... try WiFi TXpower. You can find it here:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=rubberbibpepper.WiFiTxPower
Solution for missing IWCONFIG file:
1. Download the first attachment "iwconfig.txt" (default save location is '/mnt/sdcard/download')
3. Open 'File Manager'
a. Select: 'Menu' -> 'More' -> 'Settings' -> scroll down paste 'donate' (which you should do!)
b. Select: Mark Yes for both checkbox options of "Root Explorer" & "Mount System Folders"
3. Navigate your path over to '/mnt/sdcard/download' and find & rename the file "iwconfig.txt" to 'iwconfig'
4. COPY the file, and navigate your path over to '/system/xbin' and PASTE the file. It may say it wasn't pasted, but scroll down and the file will be there.
5. Launch busybox 'terminal emulator' and type these two commands:
# su
# chmod 755 /system/xbin/iwconfig
6. Boot up WiFi TXpower and verify that the iwconfig error message is gone, and that you do not get a 'iwconfig' permissions error. You should see "iwconfig" and "eth0" titles and all the signal and power stats listed in the app. Lower numbers, less range, and greater batter life.
7. Enjoy! If this has helped you, please hit the "Thanks" button below.
Backstory:
Problem is, this app needs a file 'iwconfig' to be installed in '/system/xbin' and this directory is R/O (read-only, write protected). There are a few ways to do this;
adb push to install the file
Find an APP that will install iwconfig for you
Symlink the file if its somewhere else
Copy & Paste File yourself
I'm old school, so I like to have a hard copy of the file anywhere its needed, and at 30.4 KB, who cares. So following the 80% help link below, I downloaded the 'iwconfig.tar' file, extracted the internal file, and started trying to copy it into '/system/xbin'. From this same site, I used fragments of commands in the busybox 'terminal emulator' to finish the install after the file was copied into the directory. I used '# chmod 755' to set the permissions on the new file, so WiFi TXpower could use it.
"Quoted from:
# su
# cd /mnt/sdcard/download — (this assumes the download location of the file)
# tar –xf iwconfig.tar — (this was to extract the single file from inside the tar file)
# mount –o rw,remount /system — (I couldn't get this command to work, but you can try next line below instead)
# mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /system /system — ccdreadcc line of code, that looks like it would work, I received no terminal emulator errors when attempting.
# cp iwconfig /system/xbin — (Above didn't work, so I copy & paste this file in 'File Manager' as I couldn't get 'Root Explorer' to do it, it wouldn't R/W '/system')
# chmod 755 /system/xbin/iwconfig — (You will need this later to correctly set permissions on 'iwconfig', if you don't you will get a "permission denied" error in the WiFi TXpower App)
"

I am running on a rooted sprint samsung S3, the app continues to show::
iwconfig:
Unknown id: wlan0.
when I select 4dBm, there is no indication it worked. In terminal I run iwconfig, and it shows that the setting took effect! My stock power is 1496, which seems to be my max. Selecting 11dbm works, but 18, 25 and 32 do not. I am guessing my wifi adapter will not allow anything over 1496.
If I had iw and ifconfig on my device I could try this to force a higher speed:
ifconfig wlan0 down
iw reg set BO<--------------is an o not a 0
ifconfig wlan0 up
iwconfig wlan0 channel 13
iwconfig wlan0 txpower 30
any suggestions how to pull this off.. I can install this on a debian destro, but there's no point to that... if I can get the iw and ifconfig on my andriod OS, maybe I can force it higher than 1496...
Tried this.. Surprisingly, it's also working on my Nexus 7 (2012) too..
Not that is requires wireless extensions.
Code:
[email protected]:/data/data/bcmon/misc $ ./iwconfig
lo no wireless extensions.
svnet0 no wireless extensions.
ifb0 no wireless extensions.
ifb1 no wireless extensions.
sit0 no wireless extensions.
ip6tnl0 no wireless extensions.
wlan0 no wireless extensions.
In last Samsung Aries kernel, it's one of these:
Code:
CONFIG_WIRELESS=y
CONFIG_WIRELESS_EXT=y
CONFIG_WEXT_CORE=y
CONFIG_WEXT_PROC=y
CONFIG_WEXT_SPY=y
CONFIG_WEXT_PRIV=y
CONFIG_CFG80211_WEXT=y
CONFIG_WIRELESS_EXT_SYSFS=y
iwconfig has no effect on tx-power
This is great, thank you.
Unfortunately, when I followed all the instructions, got the iwconfig file from this thread, renamed it, successfully put it into system/xbin/, and then ran "iwconfig wlan0 txpower 2dBm" and then "iwconfig wlan0" the tx-power level is unchanged. It is still listed as 19 dBm. There's no error message.
Any ideas?
Does the "iwconfig [interface] txpower" command need to be run in a certain manner for it to have effect?
(I'm running a nightly build of Cyanogenmod 11 on a Moto G 4G.)
Yes, it's works on SGS4 i9506 4.4.2 after install iwconfig/iwmulticall. The signal is really changing, I see it when checking with other devices.
"iwconfig" shows txpower=31dbm for wlan0 (on other devices - S3, S5 and Tab - it shows 1496dbm)
I send command "iwconfig wlan0 txpower %%" with different values, but only 4, 11, 18, 25 and 31 works (yes, the last is not 32).
How can i increase it for better signal?
sorry for my english!
Thanks
Also I tried this:
iwconfig wlan0 sens -90
but
SET failed on device wlan0 ; Operation not supported on transport endpoint.
Is it needs orher diriver for wifi?
it doesn't work on lollipop
any ideas how to make it work on lollipop
Same here. Any solutions for Lollipop iwconfig?

Answering my own question:
You see this error because android doesnt want you to run old binaries on new version of system (as google explains, if I got the idea correctly)
To rebuild the binaries for new system is pretty complicated, so you can just fool the system by changing 17th byte in current (not working) binary file
Open some hex editor (online version for example: hexed.it), find the 17th byte (counting from 1, as humans do) and change it from 02 to 03
This byte (as I now see) is the first byte on 2nd string in the hex editor
Good luck
Try to edit, but the result "Segmentation Fault" :3

[Q] Help with wpa_supplicant/wpa_cli

I'm using G'Five GPad 701 ( not a very popular device I know)
Android version: 4.2.2 (official ROM)
Kernel version: 3.4.5
[email protected] #2
(Any other information needed?)
I'm trying to connect to WPS network, but since it's not possible without pressing the WPS button on the router anymore after android 4.1+
I googled a lot and found that it's possible to connect to WPS networks using wpa_cli
I got the file and put it in /system/bin and modified the permissions (checked all boxes) but I'm not sure about "owner" and "group" , I've set them to : owner root, group root
Opening terminal and using:
Code:
su
wpa_cli
I get the following:
Code:
wpa_cli
wpa_cli v2.0-devel-4.1.2

See README for more details.
Using interface 'wlan0'
Warning: Failed to attach to wpa_supplicant.
Could not connect to wpa_supplicant - re-trying
Warning: Failed to attach to wpa_supplicant.
Warning: Failed to attach to wpa_supplicant.
Warning: Failed to attach to wpa_supplicant.
Warning: Failed to attach to wpa_supplicant.
and it just loops on and on.
I've been trying to work around it for hours now and understand what's wrong, but I can't figure it out.
I tried changing permissions of wpa_cli , wpa_supplicant , wpa_supplicant.conf , and even all folders from root to /sockets
All other forums I found talk about wpa_cli in linux not android, and even trying their solutions did not work for me.
Anyone can help with that?
(This is my second post about this, my last one was closed and I was redirected here, so hope to find help here )
Thanks in advance !

[Q] WiFi issue on Tizen 2.3 on RD-PQ (M0)

I've found my RD-PQ on the shelf and decided to upgrade it to 2.3
That was a pretty easy procedure, although with 2.3 it's totally empty.
The most discouraging thing is that WiFi fails to connect.
There are several mentions of that problem at https://developer.tizen.org/ru/forums/general-support/tizen-2.3-rd-pq-device-available but no solutions or at least clues there.
Are there any options to debug it?
The only thing I could imagine was to connect to device console in sdb and check wpa_supplicant that was working somehow.
With 2.2.1 WiFi works fine.
What else can be done around it?
Ya need driver isntalled I think. Drivers is non free licensed and ya need to ask for it somewhere in dear Samsung company.
Tolko schas uvidel... Napishi na maemo.su, sprosi u Kirilla, k primeru, bolshe tolku budet. Zdes ne populyaren Tizen.
I have my RD-PQ only since 1 month... so I am newbie...
Since yesterday I saw first time 2.3.1 and WiFi complete not work... not able to find any thing... Scan not finish...
Installed files...
Code:
tizen-2.3.1-mobile_20150921.1_mobile_boot.tar.gz
[B]tizen-2.3.1-mobile_20150921.1_mobile_target.tar.gz[/B]
Then I have only flashed filesystem:
Code:
[B]tizen-2.3-mobile_20150812.1_mobile_target.tar.gz[/B]
So I mixed 2.3.1 Kernel with Filesystem from 2.3... and my WiFi now detect devices + I am able to connect to hidden network.
I need something to install to check if connection is not fake... but for now this is more as 2.3.1
I will later compare...
If usr/apps is bigger difference... between 2.3 and 2.3.1...
Later more...
Best Regards

Pulled from working 2.3 filesystem...
Now I have flashed back to 2.3.1...
Need some time to check content... compare and so on...
Added WiFifrom231rdPQ.rar from 2.3.1 filesystem... NOT work for me.
Short compared and I can see major differences...
Code:
rm -r wifi-efl-ug
Delete in shell work... so I will try to replace folder with content of 2.3...
Later more...
Thanx for this info via PM...
But I can't try self as stupid me killed my RD-PQ...
But maybe someone else find this info usefull...

...I know how to fix the wifi connection on Tizen 2.3 and 2.3.1 for a RD-PQ device. The problem is that some links in the os are not properly created.
Basically you need to install the usleep package (https://download.tizen.org/releases...rmv7l/packages/armv7l/usleep-1-5.2.armv7l.rpm), it's for Tizen 2.2.1, but it does work for 2.3 and 2.3.1. After that, create two links that the wlan.sh shell script is expecting, and are not in the proper location.
ln -s /usr/sbin/modprobe /sbin/modprobe
ln -s /usr/sbin/rmmod /sbin/rmmod
Or, alternatively, you can pull the /usr/bin/wlan.sh file via sdb pull, change the /sbin/modprobe and /sbin/rmmod lines to /usr/sbin/modprobe and /usr/sbin/rmmod.
After doing that, from the phone, open Wifi and clicking on the green button will activate the wifi correctly and you will be able to connect to any wifi hotspot.
You can skip using the ui and perform the following commands :
/usr/bin/wlan.sh start
this will activate the wlan0 interface, which you can check by issuing a ifconfig command.
/usr/sbin/wpa_supp.sh start
this will start wpa supplicant.
Check if connmand is running (ps -ax and check the list), if not, you need to do :
systemctl start connman
systemctl enable connman
Click to collapse
Thank you very much for this hint. :good:
Best Regards
