[Q] Slow to boot, and a question about 4G battery use - HTC Rezound

I'm 100% stock. I had to reboot my phone after being in a dead zone with no service, and it seemed like it took forever to boot up. I just timed it, and it took over 3 minutes to boot up, which seems pretty slow in my opinion.
Is this normal? I don't recall it being that slow shortly after I got it.
Are there "non-root" things I can do to speed up boot time?
Fast boot is checked.
Now my 4g question. I live in 3g land, and haven't been anywhere where there is 4g coverage yet. I'm going on vacation, and most likely will be bouncing between 3 and 4g. What should I expect? Any tips or suggestions to make sure I'm not fighting with a dead battery while trying to enjoy my vacation?

I have also been having extremely long boot times like you. But I am rooted and I noticed it after I added all of my apps. Do you have a kit of apps downloaded too?
Sent from my rooted HTC Rezound

I don't think that I have an overabundance of apps. There are currently 121 apps on my phone. Not sure how many of these are preinstalled by HTC and Verizon.
Seems to sit on the 4G LTE splash screen for quite some time.
Is there anything like msconfig on Windows to see what is starting up on boot?

i don't have long boot times, i just have a good 10-15 second delay before my phone shuts off or restarts, first ive ever seen this from any htc device.

Phone has a slow response randomly and I have to reboot to fix it.

I wanna know if anyone else has this issue or not when click an app like a game it takes up to 10 seconds for it to run and after exiting sometimes the main screen is very delayed and sometimes unresponsive when scrolling left and right. I also have an issue of the phone not wanting to switch back to 4g if in 3g or 1x just stuck until I reboot or restart it. Wanna know if I should get this one replaced or not. Also GPS is horrible never accurate. It say in running little kids on the sidewalk over constantly or running threw people house. I have factory data restored it but same problem. Need to know if I need new one?

It does happen. Try a different kernel or over clocking.
this happens to me occasionally, usually only when the battery is hot/doing a LOT of things at once. (meaning when i'm charging and using pandora over bluetooth, wireless tether, and waze at once) the phone lags up so much that when i press the home button, the haptic vibrate stays on for about 3 seconds.... this is when i know that its happening - and i'll just pull the battery...
If you're running stock & it's been like that since day one, you might consider exchanging it. If you're running a custom rom/kernel, reflash & leave it at default settings for a few days & see if the problems resolve

I've never had the lag issue you speak of, however, the gps issue I have seen, but has been fixed in recent custom roms and will be addressed in the update. If you are on stock, you might want to just wait it out for 9 more days till the OTA rolls out. If you are using a custom rom/kernel combo, what are you using?

I also forgot to mention that i'm on BAMF 1.8 with the kernel that it comes with.
If your rooted, i'd recommend unchecking your "set at boot" and profiles in SetCPU, reboot, and see if it continues. As said above, if unrooted... a call to verizon may be in order.
My phone is not rooted every phone I have rooted besides like 2 I have bricked. But yeah I don't get why they didn't run this stupid phone a dule core. I got to play with a phone that had a dule core and response is so amazing.
Then you should take it back to verizon & exchange it for another. Your Tbolt shouldn't be like that out of the box. I've never had GPS issues, even on stock it would lock within a few seconds. And dual core is overrated unless you have apps that actually take advantage of it (not many). No wonder you were impressed with dual core phones lol. My mildly overclocked Tbolt runs Sense just as fluidly as any Atrix runs MotoBlur

Has HTC confirmed a fix yet?

Random reboots
WiFi acting up
Connection hiccups
Browser and some other apps randomly close
Battery sucks
Wondering if htc has confirmed a update to fix all this?
Any ideas?

From what my friend told me (vzw business rep) less than 10% of the Rezounds have these problems and some of the problems are caused by current problems in the 4G network.
No software release by htc at this time.
I would get the phone replaced at a vzw store where you can play with the phone to see if it works like it should.

Haven't had a random reboot yet.
No WiFi problems.
What do you mean by "connection hiccups"? I can't think of anything that would come close to what I think you mean.
No random apps closing.
Battery is in line with other HTC phones. Sense is just a battery hog. Wait for S-OFF and custom kernels and you'll see leaps and bounds of battery improvements.
I have none of the reported issues...
I am shocked at how long the battery lasts... 20% better than my old TB after ROMS and Kernel tweaks.
I agree, I get battery life than my TBolt did and have not had any of the problems listed above.

I haven't had any of these issues either. Have you tried a factory reset yet? It's relatively easy to do and could possibly help if you are having issues with apps and random reboots.
If that doesn't help definitely return it and get a new one. Hopefully the issues will not continue.
The battery life is going to depend on each person's location.
I got 30 hours when I was at home over the weekend, and 8 hours when I spent the day at the university. The reason being signal strength. I didn't use it any more than I did at home.
Also if you are in a low signal area the phone strains to get the data signal resulting in battery overheating and browser problems.

no random reboot issues here... the GF's tbolt is another story though that thing is awful.
Radio would be nice - i frequently go in and out of 4g areas and the radio does have a tough time picking which one to use.
The rest of the issues noted I haven't seen at all!
for me:
video playback occassionally goes out of sync
while headphones/aux is plugged in and nothing is playing(or at low volume) there's this static/hiss sound
phone gets really hot often(and when it goes over 100F the battery depletes quicker
screen is incredibly sensitive and keeps thinking I'm tapping on things that I'm not
have weird random browser lag(regardless of browser) where ill select something and nothing will happen... then after like 10 - 15sec, the new page suddenly pops up
those are my 'regular' issues. I've only had the phone reboot by itself once & the battery was super hot then. also, I will get FC's here & there but its not common.
I still blame sense/bloatware
[EDIT]: I forgot to mention that sometimes if I go to a 3G area, it will not go back to 4G on its own. ill have to manually turn the radio off/on, then it kicks back into 4G

i was actually impressed with the radio on the phone, maybe thats because i updated from a samsung fascinate which fascinated me as to how bad the radio was, excuse the bad pun
guys, open tickets with HTC and complain about your problems. t hat's the ONLY way they're gonna find out, besides seeing a high exchange rate! let's tell them EXACTLY what's wrong! my open ticket is about the crappy mic recording in the video mode, and i also brought up light leak and the background noise with music. they've escalated me to another hihger support team whos gonna contact me wtihin a week
Ditto on being impressed with the radio. I get -75db in the same metal building in which my hTC EVO 4G could muster -90db at best. The external antenna on the battery cover really do the trick.
Never had a random reboot or force close.
No problems with WiFi (except that LTE is so fast I never want to connect to my home internet!)
I get 8-10 hrs from the batt, on Performance mode, connected to 4G and heavy use. Picked up a spare battery to take me through the evening after I swap it after work.
My stock browser has always crashed occasionally, my incredible did it when it was stock and rooted and my rezound does it exactly the same way, its a software problem. I have had 2 random reboots so far not enough to complain. Other than that great, love this phone.
The only problem I have had is my phone not connecting to 4g but I think juice defender was the problem.

What someone with some time needs to do is get a digital petition up on the forums with phones having these problems ( Inc, TBolt, Rezound etc.) and try to get several thousand signatures to send to HTC because VZW doesn't care. That might get htc to do a software fix.

[Q] Rezound keeps getting stuck in 1x

My Htc Rezound keeps getting stuck on 1x like ten times a day. Is their any thing i can do to stop this from going on.
1x reception
Wait a bit, and at least 3G will come back.
There's problems in the VZN network for the last
24 hours....
All im gettin is 3g
I just got my phone today, so a bit of a learning curve... My phone was only showing 3g found that if you reduce the power level, it's stops using 4B.C.
I thought there was an outage in the area, until I figured that out.
Unlocking was fairly easy, recovery etc, but I am staying with stock for a while.
Loving it so far...

If you continue to have problems you could always try enabling revision A in the modem settings. If you're interested in trying this I could post a link with some information on it.

That would be awsome not having to do a battery pull every time this happens. So how would go about doing this.
Here's a link to the thread where I posted some instructions. I'm mobile right now and can't type it out again.

EVO LTE, I keep finding more and more glitches/bugs. How about you?

First off this is my first phone that I got on release date. So I'm assuming bugs should be present? My music app will show the album covers one day and not the next. In the phone when I click people then find a contact I want and click on it the screen turns black and does nothing. I restarted the phone and it fixed this but not the album art problem. Also ill open the stock browser app and sometimes it will just freeze on a white page and never load. This morning I turned on my phone and no data would come in or out but data was enabled. Restarted phone and it got fixed. It's just getting annoying restarting my phone a lot. Anyone else experienced these problems?

I too find a few little bugs that irritate me. But I usually depend on our fabulous development community to iron things out for me. Have some patience and try out fresh rom.

Ive had a customer come in with blazing hot battery issues as well as some wierd black dot rt in the center of his screen. Ive had others come in with gps and poor signal quality. The bummer part of it is the battery not being able to pulled as i had a customer who got his wet for a couple seconds (now I know this isnt a phone issue) so he couldnt use the reg rice trick as the bat was still in the phone and shorting out the device.
other than that seems ok though

Chrome has been known to cause all the browsers on the device to freeze up. Happens if you install it on a transformer prime.
Uninstall chrome-Uninstall flash, and reinstall flash. Then use a different browser, stock, opera..
See if it locks up like that again.
I also see you have a low signal, on an already slow 3g network. Could be data related, does it ever happen over wifi?

Flash would just be in your list of "My Apps" in the play store. If you don't have it there it's just not installed and you'd just have to uninstall chrome and not worry about the flash portion.
Actually I am the opposite. I'm officially in love with my phone.
At first I was worried about the yellow screen and battery life that I was getting (compared to others). The yellow screen has seem to go away with time (looks like a glue thing) and a few tweaks and my battery is stellar.
So I'm officially all in on my phone. Really an incredible phone.

People in the development section have been working hard on making a cm9 build for this phone. From reading about their progress, it seems like a fully functional cm9 is not too far away. And of course, it's gonna be very smooth and fluid.

Would you mind sharing your battery tweaks? I'm getting decent battery life but I'm certainly not blown away.
I also have the yellowish tint to my screen and I'm hoping mine also clears.
luckily, most of those bugs sounds software related (sense 4), so when u smack a custom ROM on there it'll be fine. when you get a phone on launch day/first batch you wanna look for hardware defects (light leakage, loose vibrating motor, dead pixels, overheating battery, etc) - those wont go away

I threw together a post in the official battery stat thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=27106429&postcount=55
But I went from 2.5 hours (12 hours of total time) of screen time to now 5 hours (1+ days). So they helped me.
I am feeling much better about the yellow screen. It was driving me nuts when I first noticed it. I started using 'screen adjuster' app and added blues. But now I don't even use it because the whites (and warmness) have dissipated a bit.

2 small issues?

Hello all,
I have had my note II for about 2 weeks now. I absolutely love the phone! However, I've noticed two issues that are sort of small now, but I am worried that they could grow larger soon.
1. LTE drops. This isn't often, but it does happen sometimes. I found a thread with people talking about this, but never really found an answer. I don't lose LTE, but I just drop to 3G. I thought it would be because of where I was, but when I looked at my mother's iPhone, and my dad's note II, they both had LTE. These drops only last for 10 minutes max, but it is worrysome.
2. Reboots! This is something new. I had quite a lot with my bolt, and hoped it would dissappear with this phone. While researching help with my LTE drops not twenty minutes ago, my phone randomly went dark, and the samsung boot logo appeared. Has this happened to anyone? I don't want this turning into my bolt!

LTE has been great for me and I haven't had any reboots, I'd recommend wiping (and installing a ROM), CleanROM & Beans are both based on stock, so you get all the features and maximum performance.

1. I too experience random LTE drops down to 3G every once in awhile. It hasn't happened since I installed Jelly'Beans' ROM but on stock it happened a few times.
2. Haven't had a random reboot yet. Did once have to do a battery pull due to running profile 5G of the Perseus Kernel. My CPU can't take those low voltages.

From my experience, neither one of these is normal, nor acceptable on the Gnote 2. And they are not small issues. I would request a replacement.
I work in a heavy congested area and I believe Verizon towers get overloaded. I have solid 4G in the morning or at night, but during lunch time it almost always becomes slow and drops to 3G or even 1X. My coworker who sits next to me has an iPhone 5 and sees the same thing happen (I have an HTC DNA btw, sneaking into N2 forum). So basically Verizon selling too many 4G phones may be your culprit.
