[Q] Bars but no service? - Motorola Photon 4G

I recently unlocked and installed Joker's CM9, because this problem was present when I was on stock and thought a new ROM could fix it.
My network is acting really weird. I can't seem to get any service 95% of the time. I can open up the mobile networks preference pane and select my network (3G 302-610) and it will register. I then get full bars, but text messages won't send and calls won't complete (End after 0 seconds). Incoming calls will go to voicemail.
Apparently, ever x minutes, it will connect for 10 seconds or so, because I will get all my text messages. If I try to reply, it will have already dropped my service.
The weirdest part, is when it said I had no signal (it said "No service" in the roaming bar), but I still got a call. After 20ish seconds, the other person sounded like a robot in a really distorted voice, then the call dropped after 27s.
This is really frustrating me. Can anyone help me on this?

Alright, do you mean I should restore to the stock SBF through RSD Lite? You posted a link to MIUI so now I'm wondering if I should flash that firmware. I have the stock motorola one downloaded already (I've had to restore before).
Also, could it be possible that my network went weird when I tried to flash the pudding unlock file? I remember it was fine before I unlocked (at least I think it was) and the pudding file failed (something about android_secure).

I just SBF'd and the problem is still here..
I went to mobile network, set network selection to GSM/UTMS, turned Operater Selection to UTMS only (thats the type my provider, Virgin Mobile Canada, uses), but I can't make calls or text. I get bars, and occasionally it says its connected to the correct tower (302-610) but it just wont work!
I have no idea what to do

if that is a Sprint device by default GSM is disabled

Nope. I'm using UMTS in Canada on Virgin Mobile. I've been using it for the past 2 months, just recently it's gone sporadic.

Does anyone have any insight on this? It's driving me crazy. I've been using my backup phone for the past 2 days, and it works great. As soon as I try to use my Photon though, it's awful.

[Q] No calls + No mobile network !!!

I've been rooted and running a few different ROM's for several months now.
I'm currently on XTRSense 5.0.1, having loaded it within the past week or so. All has been working swimmingly until this morning. I had used it to check weather and such before going to work (tho' I don't recall if I used home WiFi or 3G) and then hadn't looked at my phone till I got to work.
My phone signal was nil with an X over it. I tried toggling on/off for mobile network but the widget and the Options checkbox are both greyed out. I tried rebooting the phone and it still didn't come back. It prompted me to set my clock b/c it wasn't getting network time anymore (1st time I've seen that).
Feeling desperate, I even tried changing the NAM CDMA settings to EVRC-B just to see if I could "jiggle the handle" for the mobile network and get it going. All to no avail.
Text messages do not reach the phone, and calls ring through to voice mail (though not immediately, as though it were ringing the phone).
I'm at a loss and doubtful I could call Verizon to get much help.
Any help anyone can provide would be deeply appreciated!
Thanks!
cm
Disregard... Verizon must be have a weak day and my coverage is a bit dodgier than usual. I usually have better coverage at work, but I had to go hunting for better signal. I guess that's what I get for troubleshooting while sitting at my desk...

[Q] Error 16: Switch 694 after S-Off; Phone dysfunctional

I followed Bentenrai's guide to S-Off, Rooting, and Recovery. Internet (both Wi-Fi and 3G/4G data) works, but I am unable to make/receive phone calls or send/receive text messages.
The phone call error occurs after about 2 rings, which says "Error 16 (then in Spanish) Switch 694".
The sms error is: "sms error radio interface resource shortage" with details "cause code:64, error class: 2".
I tried everything from the "Phone does not work after S-Off" thread and was on the phone with 2 Sprint operators for over an hour. The first operator had me update profile and PRL, then had me turn off/pull battery while she did stuff twice to no avail. The second operator (who was mean and treated me like a moron) had me turn mobile networks off and on again, update profile and PRL, and pull battery (yes, she actually wanted me to pull the battery while the device was on; I powered it off first).
Is anyone else experiencing this or has anyone found a solution?
Thank you very much!
Yup, I found the fix. It's really easy! Tell the person to do a "CHLS Refresh", and then restart your phone.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1194460
Thanks! I also just saw the thread in the General section about all the lucky people who achieved S-Off without the error.
I'll call them back tomorrow and report back.
i had the same error after rooting my phone, just try to call any number, and after listen to the message, it will connect you to a sprint rep. they will confirm some information with you and they will tell you that they will reset from their side and ask to turn off the phone for 30 sec and boom, it's a go.
After some thought, I realized both Sprint reps only had me pull the battery for a few seconds. I decided to leave the battery out for about 5 minutes and when I powered back on, I was able to connect to voicemail. I let it stay connected for a bit and then was able to make phone calls and texts. Suddenly, I began receiving Error 67 messages, so I updated profile and PRL. Since then, (knock on wood) everything has been ok. Phew!
Forgot to mention this tidbit of wisdom from the 2nd Sprint rep: She told me my problems with making calls was because there's an outage in my area. I told her that wasn't likely because I was using another Sprint phone to talk to her. She still persisted in saying it was an outage. Yay!
That's it? no other responses to this. My sons phone is a paper weight at the moment. He can't even dial Sprint and nothing else has worked. Anyone have another idea?

Everytime I flash a new ROM I lose voice and data??

Like the title says, everytime I flash a new one, or if I flash ziggy kernel especially I cannot get voice calls or data, i get radio interface shortage errors when texting ect, i have to do the ##3282# reset about 5 times to get anywhere, any theories or suggestions? I haven't seen anyone else with this problem and it started when I flashed xron ROM a few nights back..
Are you a google voice user? Are you gsm or cdma?
I only use google voice for voicemail, its Sprint CDMA
Did you update your radios AND firmware? I think the file was radio firmware nohboot or something like that?

It doesn't happen to me EVERY time, but I find myself having to go through the whole reprovisioning and re-setting data thing a lot more than I would prefer to. Hell, I've had 6 of these handsets since release date and I've had to **** around with this issue right out of the box on EVERY one! Love the phone but cmon HTC....wtf!! They really screwed the pooch on this phone, lol.

My problems are usually data problems. As far as losing voice, that happened once after using one of the older "superwipe" files floating around. Took a whole Saturday to get it back, had to get Sprint involved...boy was I pissed! Been using XRON superwipe lately and it's doing the trick!
Try ##scrtn# from dialer then enter your msl. After it reboots let us know if that works.

Still didn't help, when I go to more info on the radio interface shortage error the error code is 67,wasn't that the code a lot of people were getting after revolutionary first came out?
Call sprint and have them reset on their end....and good luck

I might have to do this, for some reason this actually happens after every single reboot, had to clarify that.
This happened to me too, even with those resets you are talking about I wasn't able to fix it. You have to call sprint, they do something on their end, guide you through the same process you are talking about, and then it works. Dial 611, tell them the error and any error code you have. Apparently they are familiar with it because they know exactly what you are facing and know how to fix it without doing any research or any other diagnostic steps.
I don't think this problem has anything to do with HTC, or the phone itself. I think it has to do with Sprints Google Voice integration. I use GV for voicemail only and I have this problem every once in s while. Next time it happens, try making the call using GV. If it works you know this is your problem. For some reason, even though you have it set up differently, GV will take over. This is a completely separate issue from the error 16 that a lot of people are getting with this phone. If it is an error 16 a simple call to Sprint will fix it. If it is the GV integration thing, then it is much harder to fix and rebooting to recovery, wiping cache and dalvik will sometimes fix the problem. Also, reflashing the kernel will sometimes fix it too. I haven't figured out a definite way to fix it yet though. It seems every time this happens, it takes something different to fix it.
I'm actually not even setup to make calls on google voice, I went directly onto the voice. Google. Com website and changed the settings to voicemail only and turned off all other integration.. Can it still be interfering?

Yes. Mine is set up the same way and when this happens if I choose to ask me every time I make a call in the GV app settings and choose GV to make the call it goes through, but when I chose do not use GV it won't work. I get a message that says, "I'm sorry, we are unable to complete your call at this time. Please try again later" and that's it. Since the Google Voice integration with Sprint I have noticed that no matter who you are calling you must dial 1, then the area code, then the # even if it is a local call.

straight talk

ok i got a i717 note and a att striaght talk sim card. I finially got the APN setting that came with the straight talk sim to save. Phone is making calls and messaging but the data services are not working. What am i doing wrong?
If your settings are like the ones in the screenshots I posted, then I would say there is likely problems with data im your area.
my settings are the exact same. no luck

also my carrier says "HOME" in the top left corner. I wonder if this has something to do with it?
Mine displays HOME when I pull down the notifications window and only for a few seconds when in the lock screen. Other than that it doesn't display HOME from what I've noticed. I don't think you have to worry about the what is displayed as the carrier's name. Since you are able to make phone calls and received messages (both SMS and MMS?) and the only thing that is not working is just data, then it's probably something in the phone configuration or a problem in your area. If you haven't done so yet I would recommend contacting Straight Talk.
What symbol, if any, do you have to the left of the signal bar?
I know this probably isn't the case but did your turn Wifi off? If not try turning it on or off and making sure it stays off so you can connect to the data network.
I don't know if you have done so but you could try a factory reset, not sure if this would help.
If none of the above works you could try rooting and flashing the AT&T stock rom to the phone or some other rom. (Consult this recommendation with someone more experienced here on the forums. Personally, I don't see more troubleshooting options.)
If there is no problem with the network and none of the above works then I think your phone may be damaged, unless it used to work perfectly with AT&T. Did you switch from AT&T to Straight Talk or did you buy the buy through ebay or on the street to activate ti with them?

[Q] Data suddenly not working. Please help.

First let me start with the phone:
AT&T Galaxy S II running 4.1.1 SuperNexus Rom Build 4-20121007. Kernel is 3.01.15-CM-g3802d32 faryaa kernel. Baseband 1777UCLE5
Everything was working fine. I've been running SuperNexus for about a month. The only initial problem I had was that the baseband was not working upon startup and I had to put a new baseband in for it to work, got that fixed and been flying smooth for a month with no issues. Today...suddenly it stopped being so smooth.
Let me clarify:
- I can make outbound calls and hear just fine (couldn't do that when baseband was wrong)
- I can recieve and send text messages
- I show a full reception bar up top with 3g, the signal bar is grey. That may mean something or it may just be the color theme for this rom. I didn't really pay attention before the issue.
- Network info: AT&T network, Signal Strength -83 dBm 15asu, Mobile Netowrk type UMTS:3 HPSA+ :15, Service state is 'in service', Mobile Network Status 'connected'
I was literally in the middle of surfing the internet and pulled up a browser for a webpage, suddenly it hung in terms of loading the website. It did nothing for about ten minutes. I then found that all apps that use data do not work. They attempt to load but give errors. I rebooted the phone several times, shut it down fully several times, removed the battery and sim card, replaced and restarted. None of that worked. I made a call out to a friend and he could hear me and I him very clearly, call dialed out and connected without issues. Text messages come and go just fine.
The only thing I can think of is that they turned on the 4g signal in my area, or near it today and maybe there's an issue there.
Please help.
Thanks in advance.

My friend was having literally the exact same issue today on his S3 and I was having a little problem on my phone too. At this point I think it's AT&T. My S2 was not go to HSPA+ it would just stay on 3G when I turned data on.
It is AT&T. They are changing the APN they use for data. I posted a fix for this in the other thread relating to this issue.
