I just recently got a Droid X2 off of ebay for use with pageplus... I plan on installing a custom ROM to it but am unsure if the installation of a new ROM will get rid of the phones activation information. Is the info for CDMA stored separately from the ROM? I've always used GSM in the past, so I know next to nothing about CDMA phones.

So flashing a new ROM does not screw up the prior activation?
If you activate before you should be fine. Some older roms you would have to dial *22899 I believe. But as long as you are activated stock *228 will do it option 1 to activate. You will have to activate anytime you sbf your phone.
Edit: I just noticed you are not with Verizon. I am not sure if it is the same? You can just dial it and see if it gives you the option.

Dx2 all ok. Take your pick. Eclipse is most popular & stable. Just if you HAD a mx2 you could brick on a dx2 sbf.

I had already updated to 2.3.5. So I am currently running Eclipse 2.1, I really like it so far. Also I already got your recovery apk by doing a bunch of searching. Anyway, Thanks for the help!

昨天，看见开发版块张贴出2.3.6的作品，立即开始下载。由于使用代理服务器，整整下载了4个多小时，才将zip文件及使用工具完整的下载好了，迫不及待的开始按照楼主的教程刷机。
我不知道，有没有机友按照楼主的教程成功的刷上了2.3.6，我很欣慰的告诉大家，通过我不断的努力，从早晨10点多刷到凌晨3点多，终于刷上了这样一个坑爹的rom。
楼主说，在2.3.4底包之后获取root，再升级到2.3.5（412&413）。中间使用voodoo保存root权限。我不知道楼主是怎么实现2.3.4底包之后root，再刷上2.3.5的，但是凭借我和众多中国机友的常识，认为2.3.4 root后是根本无法升级到2.3.5的（任何一个版本）。打开2.3.6的文件一看，分明就是Bootstrap的一个恢复镜像文件。于是我明白，只要能够成功升级到2.3.5 413 root，就能安装好Bootstrap 进行恢复还原到2.3.6。
我刷好了底包，直接升级到楼主提供的2.3.5 413~ 但是尝试了所有的软件，都无法正常获取到root权限。无奈，只有重新刷带包，按照楼主说的在2.3.4底包后获取root 用voodoo保存权限，但是不出所料，2.3.4root后根本无法升级到2.3.5任何一个版本。所以此路不通，升级过程再次中断。只好重新底包刷到2.3.5 413继续想办法root，因为我明确的知道，只要在这里获得root权限后，必定可以使用Bootstrap还原到2.3.6。但是经过我和众多中国机友的努力，根本无法获得root权限。
倍感无奈的之际，只好重新底包刷上2.3.5 412再root 恢复2.3.6，虽然楼主明确说了，412版本wifi无法正常工作。但是毕竟也刷了一天，不看到2.3.6真面目誓不罢休。果真就这样，看见了所谓的2.3.6.
看见之后，倍感失望。首先wifi如预期的确不能使用了，其次开机第二屏红眼也变了 成了moto logo水波纹。打开设置一看机型变成了Milestone x2 。这些并不算什么，如果该rom界面做的好，系统精简，运行流畅我完全能够接收，但开机之后程序运行就是200多M，剩下的在130-140之间徘回。系统自带的程序完全没有精简，包括那个高尔夫妹妹都还屹立于其中。界面和底包后的2.3.4完全无差别。切实无论你怎么努力，都不能root。这样一个坑爹的rom居然发布出来，毫无刷机的价值。
由于昨天刷到了凌晨3点，誓言今天要注册一个xda的账号，在楼主下面回帖告诉大家我的经历，但是注册的账号又说什么需要发15贴后才能回帖。我猛灌水，灌了半个多小时终于到了15贴，再回去一看还是不能回帖~苦逼的中国机友们，何时能够在xda上有说话的权力。

It is an "out of the box" Stock rom. VooDoo DOES WORK but you must use the latest version from start to finish. Upgrade path: 234 leak sbf > 235/413 ~30mb ota. Run VooDoo before and after the ota. Install super user to gain root when all finished. System recovery also needs to be installed if you do not flash ReRecovery after the restore.

Okay so I tried using the main SBF tutorial on the dev forum here and that SBF file didn't work for my Milestone X2. I'm pretty sure the main problem is that I'm on ACS (Alaska Communication Systems) and they're using 2.3.6 and probably some strange baseband versions. I got some "boot error 1" or something.
Anyway, I can't find a .sbf file for the ACS version of my phone. I was able to get the phone to boot again using this nTelos sbf, but I wasn't able to make calls or anything and saw a flashing triangle on my status bar.
So I guess a few questions I have are..
1) Does anyone know of a .sbf file that would work for this?
2) Can I somehow edit the nTelos ROM to work with my carrier?
3) If I take it to ACS will they be able to flash the sbf file for me? Or at least supply me with it....
4) Have I voided my warranty by doing this?
Any information is helpful. Thanks!

Figured I'd give everyone a quick update. I got the phone replaced. I went in and played dumb. She asked if I tried to root it and I said "what's that? I think I've got a virus!!" She had no idea how to fix it so she just gave me a rapid replacement.
I would really like to get the SBF files so I can at least try the 2.3.6 root and not worry about messing it up this time, but any company in Alaska is pretty hard to deal with for anything at all.

I'm not sure if flashing a sbf file voids warranty. I imagine that it does because if done improperly or the sbf file is bad it could brick the phone. You're most likely going to have to take the phone to them.

Not sure I fully understand, could you give a little more information please? Kind of nervous about taking it in.
was it just the flashing triangle that means you have to activate the phone?
maybe that's all you need to do?
SBF files are given to us by Motorola. I wouldnt think you would void your warranty by using them unless its a leaked version or something. But even then, you could play stupid and just say you didnt know. They might buy it.
I mean if all else fails ask for an sbf from your service provider.

Many thanks I shouldn't have made the attempt to downgrade first in the first place. This time I think I'll just attempt a simple root, which I've read worked for another ACS Milestone X2 2.3.6 user. After a root I can install ReRecovery and make a NANDROID backup right? Just in case anything goes wrong again? I haven't fully looked into it since I'm not rooted yet, but I'm assuming ReRecovery is just another thing similar to ClockWorkMod, which I have experience with. Too bad there are no 2.3.6 roms that I've seen :< I really hate this stock ROM and all its bloat.

yes, I do not blame you. There are parts of the stock rom I like but generally I do not like it. I just rooted my phone 2.3.6 method and it worked. My only advice is to download Super user from the market before you start the process.
I am working on a fix . So 236 can work on any carrier. Wanna help?

I do want to help, but do not want to risk anything until I can get my phone setup to a point where I can always flash back to this ACS 2.3.6. Is that essentially done once/if I get ReRecovery on the phone?

Our phone is crippled, cwr restore does not restore bootloader & other stuff.
Due to Verizon changing how their unlimited data plans will work, I decided to finally upgrade from my Dinc to the Razr Maxx. I have been reading the forums for the last few days. I guess to took for granted how easy it was to switch between roms with my old phone.
The phone I received from Verizon already had Android 2.3.6 with bootloader 0a.6c on it. There is no OTA upgrade available at this time so It is the most recent GB installation.

I am not to worried about installing the latest ICS leak, but I miss my custom roms. I know that kexec is in the works and is currently on developmental hold. I have read about bootstrap vs safestrap and feel comfortable with most of the terminology. The major downside is the locked bootloader that I assume Motorola will never unlock for us. Since there is no way around this I want to prepare for the worst.
Given my current setup, what should I do to make sure I don't loose any of my modability?
Should I go ahead and root and install safestrap without the init support needed for most custom roms?
Are their any files I should backup that will let me downgrade or revert to a different version?
I would just like to make sure I don't miss an opportunity to do something fun with this phone out of ignorance.

On a major side note, I am still in my return window and am seriously contemplating sending this phone back and preordering the Galaxy 3. Like most of you, I love the phone, but need the freedom to flash.

Thanks for the info. I was more worried about making sure I didn't miss an opportunity to backup any files for future use as I know I am already on the new bootloader. More or less trying to cover my butt for a potential downgrade in case we find a way to do any neat tricks with my current setup.
Well no matter which way you slice it, for the time being, once you go to the newer builds its very much a pain in the ass to go back, if its possible. I'm just going to wait and see what the devs can do with ICS. I typically don't like to jump the gun when it comes to OTAs.
Again, this all just my opinion, its your phone.

At this point I would root and use Voodoo to keep root.
I would not install any other recovery because that will probably prevent the OTA from installing.
ICS is due out in the next week or so, so I would root and be patient.

I ended up rooting last night and not installing a recovery. Thanks for the heads up on root keeping with Voodoo.
I remember someone saying to make a backup of my CID partition, but with I think that was just in case you were flashing some of the leaks. I will probably go ahead and do it for good measure.
Hey guys, just got a RAZR from a friend who upgraded. It is on Verizon. Anyways, the phone is running the latest Safestrap version 3.11 (I think it's the latest) but it says SafeStrap Disabled when the phone boots not sure what it means. Also, when that screen goes past I get to what looks like MIUI trying to start up but it never does it just hangs and hangs. I noticed too when I would go into my recovery and look at boot options Stock ROM is chosen and there are no other ROMs in any other slots. I basically have no idea what firmware this phone is on etc. etc. I am looking for a stock ROM as I want to be able to use the micro HDMI port for Netflix etc. Can anyone please help me out to get this phone to boot? Big big thanks!!!

In safestrap, boot options choose a rom slot to activate. 1gig is fine, (must download a compatible rom first while on stock) after slot is created go to where you have it downloaded and select and swipe. when its done flashing (compatible rom for your device) select reboot, system. Ur safestrap will now be on. you must do the above process to have custom ROMs to boot or yes will be nothing there. Whatever you do do not ever mess with your stock rom as this is your fall back/safe rom if something messes up. When you are checking out ROMs make sure to read the OP/first page which will explain whats going. Some ROMs will work only on a specific rom slot (rom slot1 rom slot 2, etc.) Important to read info before flashing.. Also when on stock/any rom tap menu then choose settings and scroll all the way down to about phone and select, this is where you will see which android version you are currently running.. 4.04 etc. Its a learning process at first. just keep at it till you figure it out

Thank you for this informative post much appreciated! I am very comfortable flashing recovery/firmware/ROMs on Samsung devices I have been doing it since the S1. The RAZR is confusing though as it is my first Motorola phone and I am not used to SafeStrap and ROM slots etc. On Samsung it would just be download ROM.zip go into recovery which is either CWM or TWRP and then make a backup then wipe device and flash ROM.zip. So this whole notion of ROM slots etc. is confusing. I was actually able to get the phone to boot by wiping cache and dalvik. The Stock ROM is selected in recovery but it boots MIUI...I don't know what's up with that because MIUI definitely isn't stock RAZR ROM.

Thanks again! I am reading ROM threads and some talk about not flashing the ROM unless you have the JB kernel installed. I thought the kernel was on the ROM level. How can I tell if this RAZR has the JB firmware? I also have read that AOSP ROMs do not have micro HDMI functionality which is important to me. Is this true? If so, did Motorola release a stock JB? Thanks!!
Yes, I believe early march.. android version 4.1.2 to see what is on yours just go to your home screen, tap menu, tap s it system settings then scroll all the way down and tap on ABOUT PHONE, this is where your android version is also kernel etc.. so what version are you on?

Yes, I believe early march.. android version 4.1.2 to see what is on yours just go to your home screen, tap menu, tap s it system settings then scroll all the way down and tap on ABOUT PHONE, this is where your android version is also kernel etc.. so what version are you on?

So this phone on its Stock ROM slot is running MIUI 2.10.12 (Build number MIUI-2.10.12 6.7.2-180_SPU-19-TA-5 which is Android version 4.0.4 ICS. The baseband is N_05.11.01P, kernel version is 3.0.8-g29cf5e7 [email protected] #1 SMP PREEMPT Thu Jun 14 15:22:48 CDT 2012

Yeah I'm looking for just stock as I want everything to be fully fuctional including the micro HDMI port (which to my understanding from what I was told micro HDMI doesn't work on AOSP/AOKP ROMs). Once I have a JB kernel and the stock ROM backed up to a ROM slot I'll feel more comfortable flashing JB ROMs to the phone. Thanks a ton you've been a big help!

Says it's for XT912 only and NOT to use on XT910...when I go to about phone mine says XT910...I have the Verizon Droid RAZR.

It's not a MAXX it's just a Droid RAZR from Verizon...about phone in my ROM says my phone is XT910

Blahh no good it says right before the steps not to use it on Verizon RAZR's...is the Verizon version of this phone that hard to do anything with?

Thanks a million man you really helped me out big time! Wow doing stuff on a Motorola phone is 10x more complex than on a Samsung device or even HTC (HTC is a pain in the butt)!!
i have never looked at anything involving gsm, i have cdma.. let me know what you end up doing!!

There is something wrong. Looks like someone changed the build.prop of your device.
Verizon Droid RAZR is not XT910.
XT910 is the GSM version.XT912 is the Verizon CDMA version(capable of both cdma & gsm).
So either its not XT910 or its not the Verizon one.
Confirm it before proceeding.You might brick your phone.

@neo.ank Easiest way for him to do that would be? GSM thing was kinda a curve ball.. Now days if it does get bricked he can use Matt's utility.. @droidrzr.com Should probly go there anyhow and talk to the PRO's..
I recently bought my rooted s4 mdk, came with Hyperdrive v10.2 rom. I done some tweaking from within the rom: font,center clock,icon changer ect.. . I've done a little modification such as getting dark dialer & sms, dark horse inverted g: mail,store,music. I did try flashing modem (to nc2 only to have slight heart attack seeing baseband not on mdk) then flash back to mdk. Only after reading thru the whole thread(vzw s4 forums) and flashing the zips that other Mdk users verified working.
I've read how lucky I am to be on mdk with twrp. Also seen post where people mentioning bricking there mdk, but didn't say how they did it.
I want to learn about what I can and can't do.
Like:
is there other compatible roms from other device makers : htc, moto that work on the s4 ? Understanding kernels , how to remove the ringtones from in the system (I tried delete -says deleted but it doesn't . General system knowledge. I guess in other words an Experienced person to take me under there wing and help guide me .
So coming from a unrooted thunderbolt (I would like to root the TB cuz I use it for home phone using viop app) I'm really liking being rooted with the no ads, wifi hotspot ect... and having the unlimited data plan I had to buy out of contract to upgrade. I'm glad I did some reading here to make sure I got unlocked bootloader model so it took me a few times and weeks to get winning bid. Which is okay but yesterday I came across swappa in forum rules and think my next phone shall come from there .

Well a couple tips... Grab Flashify from play store and update your TWRP. There's an easy option to update your recovery and it'll flash it for you.
As far as everything else...
Just look for Roms that are specifically for Jfltevzw or JFLTE.
Kernels will be the same.
You can look in our Verizon Android Development and Original development. Also you can look in other carriers forums like TMobile or Sprint for Roms.
Aosp Roms give you more freedom when looking in other carriers threads since they are all mostly unified now and under the name JFLTE.
Tw Roms you may need compatibility packs if your flashing ones from other carriers or the i9505 S4.

Under the Flash section simply choose recovery and then have it download either TWRP or CWM and it'll flash an updated one for you. Always good to update your recovery
