Chainfire on SGSII - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have Chainfire 3D purchased from a long time ago (from the time i was using it on my spica), now it come to my mind..... is it useful in any way on the SGSII?
Is it recommended or will it improve anything?
I currently use MIUI.... is it even compatible with this rom?
Thanks!

I believe this app was first developed for the sgs2 because of incompatibility of a lot of games with Mali when the sgs2 came out, you can use for terrace games and such.

Requirements
- OpenGL ES 2.0 (every 1ghz+ phone has this)
- SuperUser / Root
- Writable /system (it will try to remount system as read/write when needed, but the changes need to stick between reboots)
- S-OFF ?
- Having root access from recovery is a big plus to solve problems if you run into them (run "/system/lib/cf3d_uninstall.sh" as root to remove the driver and restore the old one)
CF3D driver installation
There is some risk involved, so you should have either root access in recovery, a CWM backup, or a firmware to flash handy. Nevertheless, the driver has been tested and found working on the following devices:
- HTC HD2
- Samsung Galaxy S
- Samsung Galaxy Tab 7"
- Samsung Galaxy S II
- Samsung Epic 4G
- Motorola Atrix 4G
- Motorola Droid 2
- LG Optimus 2X
- Google Nexus S
It's likely to work on far more devices. So far nobody has reported a failed install, so that's good. Doesn't mean problems can't happen.

Chainfire didn't mention ROM requirements, looks like it's based on hardware and root.. i think you'll be fine

It is useful for the I9100, yes. Some games (like "Need for Speed: Shift") need it to be running in a certain compatibility mode for the graphics to be rendered correctly.
It should be noted that other games, (like Gameloft's "Backstab") actually need it to NOT be running in order for the game to run. (at least, in my experience)

Bottom line: As i already have it purchased, just better use it?

Bottom line: use it if you need it. If you don't need it, you don't need to use it. It's not something you need on all the time. (which you should have been able to figure out by my previous post, that said at least one game DIDN'T work while it was running in compatibility mode)

[Q] Space Invaders Infinity Gene?

Has anyone been able to buy + install Space Invaders Infinity Gene from Android Market? It says it's not compatible with my Streak.
I'm running stock, but rooted, 351 at the moment. I've tried unrooting and resetting my Market app back to stock with no luck - is there something I can do with my build.prop that will allow me to install this?
Also, SIIG shows as not compatible with my ZTE Blade, but, very weirdly, it supposedly is compatible with my HTC Touch Diamond2 running xdandroid?! WTF?
Thanks,

(BTW: I know SIIG is overpriced and probably crap but I have a Space Invaders problem)
I love Space Invaders, specially Infinity Gene. I play it all the time on my XBOX360. It says is version 1.0 on the Android Marketplace, so perhaps in a later version it will be compatible with the Streak, I hope.
Maybe try changing your build.prop fingerprint ID to Nexus One:
1. Copy /system/build.prop to a local directory and make a backup in case you want to revert these changes. Change the following settings:
ro.product.name=libra_passion
ro.product.device=passion
ro.product.board=mahimahi
ro.build.fingerprint=google/passion/passion:2.3.4/GRJ22/121341:user/release-keys

Yeah - I might get it on my 360 instead if nickshertzer's suggestion doesn't work. I've already got Space Invaders Extreme on the 360 though so that might be excessive - I was justifying getting yet another Space Invaders to myself on the basis that this version was portable (along with the gameboy + SNES versions I already have on the phone - really I have a problem )

Thanks for the advice but I'm afraid I've had no luck with this. I tried:
- unrooted
- backed up /system/build.prop and edited the lines to match those given
- stopped Market app, cleared cache + uninstalled updates
- rebooted
- ran Market on phone and downloaded + installed a random free app to make sure phone had connected to Google's Market service
- tried to find SIIG on Market again - no joy
- tried online version of Market on my PC and it still thinks I have a Streak and not a Nexus One so I assume I must have done something wrong but not sure what. Will wait and see if publisher sorts out compatibility on Market, I think.

[Q] Android Conversion

I would like to convert my TP to Android is there a current definative entry somwhere that will give me an answer to the following questions without me having to read 500 replys which just seem to confuse.
I have and Samsung Galaxy S2 and am familar and comfortable with Andriod.
1. Am I going to be disappionted with the best Android conversion?
2. Which is the best conversion
3. Is it reversable (Can I get back to the HP sotfware)
4. What functionality will I loose in relation to the HP software
5. What functionality will I loose in relation to Galaxy S2
Any clear answers would be appreciated.

1. If so, you have ridiculously high expectations. The biggest annoyance I have is needing to toggle wifi off and on every once in a while when waking up from sleep.
2. I assume you are asking about which ROM. I prefer XRONified.
3. Using webOS doctor you can get back to stock
4. None (other than the disk space needed to house Android).
5. Your Galaxy S2 has nothing to do with this.
There is a good video on how to install CM7 on the Touchpad here, just use the latest alpha 3.5 zip instead of the alpha 1 in the video, everything else is the same:
http://youtu.be/fHoQM3KW1sU
CM7 is pretty stable now. There are a few small issues you'll get every now and then but it is usable as a primary OS now. Its Android 2.3 based so its the same OS that is on your Galaxy S2 but with a different launcher. Any apps you use on your S2 should work in CM7. Unfortunately until we get an ICS port there are many tablet apps that require Android 3.0+ and will not run on the Touchpad.
If you follow the instructions in the video you will be installing moboot which allows you to dual boot Android or WebOS. So if you don't like something in Android its very easy to boot back into WebOS.

Also, if you want to go straight to XRONified, you can download the latest XRONified, rename it exactly the way that the CM7 alpha is named and follow the instructions as is.

Also to add to the above posts, the android ROMs out there still does not support the inbuilt Camera and there is audio distortion when the screen turns off. Apart from that everything looks and works great

[Q] Arabic for galaxy note I717

Hello,

Mine displays Arabic out of the box...
Edit: Wait, I take that back. It displays the characters but in right to left, rather than left to right as they should be.
The letters need to be connected too.
any arabic for this
arabic support
Go to the market and look for Arabic browser, its the second one, its a patch you can apply it in your phone, you phone has to be root.
Any Arabic for this yet that i could flash with odin???

Thank you, I rooted my phone and tried the Arabic browser, finally I can read Arabic on my note I717.
Also, if you want to be able to type in Arabic, SwiftKey X supports it and a long list of other languages. I use it for typing things in German. Sadly you just missed the 49 cent sale that was going on.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...GwsMSwyLDEsImNvbS50b3VjaHR5cGUuc3dpZnRrZXkiXQ..
until we get a real solution you can use Opera mini which i am using now and it displays arabic pages correctly. i think normal Opera will work too but i haven't tried it.
for the keyboard i am using miltiling keyboard, it is free and support arabic. it will allow you to type in arabic and there is an option to make it connect the letters for you but it may not display correctly for iphone users (which we don't care for anyway lol)
Here is a test using that keyboard:
ﺍﺧﺘﺒﺎﺭ ﺍﻟﻜﺘﺎﺑﺔ ﺑﺎﻟﻌﺮﺑﻲ ﻓﻲ ﺟﻬﺎﺯ ﻗﺎﻟﻜﺴﻲ ﻧﻮﺕ ﻏﻴﺮ ﻣﻌﺮﺏ
sent from my Galaxy Note (stock rom, and not rooted yet)
Ok, i got a solution. not very straight forward but it works. and you need "root"
There are two solutions:
1- The first thing you need to do is deodex your rom or get one that is already deodexed like TPC rom here
Then use the patching script made by madmack from here
This script should patch these files:
framework.jar
libandroid_runtime.so
libicuuc-arabic.so
libwebcore.so
which will fix Arabic for every thing, i used the latest patcher 0.907 which now works for the Galaxy Note.
anyway, you can copy these files over to your phone "fix the user owner and permission" or use the zip file that was also generated by the patching script and flash it using CWM recovery. I attached the file i generated using my stock and deodexed rom it should work for you as well if you have the same phone and same rom (Stock 2.3.6).
Reboot and clean the cache and dalvik cache.
Now browser, gmail, twitter, whatsapp, facebook...etc should show the arabic correctly.
2- Fixing the browser and gmail only: this is easier and doesn't need deodex (since it patches lib files only) but it still need root and will not fix twitter, whatsapp and the other applications.
This fix also uses madmack patch.
The fix is here
or you can go directly to the android market "Google Play" and install the patcher, it is very easy and will patch the file with a single click from your phone
Thanks to madmack and brightidea and anyone who made this possible.
This is for AT&T Galaxy Note only (i717) (2.3.6) the same process should work for other phones as well, but the attached files will only work with this phone.
Thanks for all the info man. Have you tested this method thoroughly? No bugs or errors here or there? I'm still considering whether I should get it now or wait till ICS then look for a solution after that lol

My phone runs great since then, btw this patching method is not new and has been tested before on so many phones, i was using it with my old Nexus S, I also did a similar thing two days ago to arabize a Galaxy S II and that one works great too.

1- What ROM are you running now on your phone?
2- Is it deodex?
3- Have you installed a recovery tool other than the default? (like CWM, or TWRP)
* if you don't know what these means then i would recommend that you search for those terms and learn about them before you start doing stuff to your phone or you might end up with a bricked device.

If it doesn't root, couldn't you just downgrade to the older ROM? (I have no idea, so don't yell at me if I'm wrong )
not gonna do it without root...
I believe this is the Chinese version. I'm waiting for an International version with root. It shouldn't be long.

Root with B010 unsecure boot.img, no gapps so you need gapps patch too.
Works no problem.
Interesting. I really hope that we can soon run a real proper ICS build on MP.
This is probably dumb, but I downloaded and installed the 4.0 from Huawei, it ran beautifully, but 4g would not work on Tmo... so I went back to 3.2 and still no 4G.. anyone have any advice??

I use this ROM (B015) with my 301u.
Yes, it's a Chinese Rom with f*ckin "chinapps".
We need to finalize it:
1. Make Root with mkroot_adb
2. Delete stock chinese apps with "Root explorer" or "ROM Toolbox" (free)
3. Install latest GApps (only you need)
4. Full Wipe
And We Have а "Stable firmware without the unnecessary programs & reboots"
5. Install "CPU Tuner" or any other program to control NRG use
6. Profit
We have Android 4 with long lasting battery
And, as always, sorry for my fu**ing horrible english

How to use mkroot_adb?
4.Full Wipe (means factory reset?) or I need to do something else?
Thanks
So catching back up after being gone for several weeks. I have the ICS b10 (I think) on my MP and am looking at the new builds here. Should I do the b15 listed here, or the HUAWEI_S7-301u_FIRMWARE_android4.0_C232B002_General_Channel_05010YBX-root Build listed in the other threads?
Code:
How to use mkroot_adb?
4.Full Wipe (means factory reset?) or I need to do something else?
1. Connect HMP to PC with Win & installed ADB Drivers (HiSuite)
2. Launch mkroot.cmd
3. wait for 3 reboots
Need for mkroot use:
1. Settings - System - Developer options - USB debugging - (on)
2. Settings - Personal - Security - Unknows sources - (on)
mkroot_adb:
English version of mkroot.cmd messages
Code:
If you see this too long to post it:
1. Make sure enabled "Debug on USB"
2. ADB drivers installed
3. The tablet is connected via USB
obtain the right to write to / data
Restart (1/3)
Make full access
Restart (2/3)
If the id is 0 / root then continue, otherwise ctrl + c to cancel and start over
Copying the files
Cleanup ...
Restart (3/3)
install Superuser.apk
All done!
Full Wipe: Yes, it's a factory reset

OK.
Link: http://tinyw.in/Ko5N
Method:
1 - you need to have root for 3,4
2 - unpack gapps zip
3 - copy gapps to /system with ADB shell (with replace)
4 - clear cache & dalvik
5 - reboot
6 - Profit
When replacing the files, you can get one or two reboots.
Be careful and cautious.

Stock Android Rom with no bloatware!!!

I have the HTC Desire 816 (Virgin Mobile version).
I was wondering if there was a way to get a "stock" bare version of android for it. When you get this phone it comes preloaded with a lot of junk!!! It comes with some kidsafe software a whole bunch of Virgin mobile junk and all this amazon/twiter/facebook junk.
I've rooted the phone and tried uninstalling it, but it just breaks the phone.
I've tried CM for this phone and it works great but it may not be a daily driver.
I'm curious if anybody knew of ways to effectively remove this software without affecting the operating system and/or there was a minimized version of android for this phone.

It seems like there has to be a way. I remember I was rooting my wife's LG volt. In her volt the rooting process was very complex but involved downloading a LG firmware installer then downloading a LG ROM from somewhere and I flashed it to a basic (bare bones) version of android. Everything worked and it was rooted.
I guess my understanding is false, but could you get a "baseline" android OS with no drivers nothing, install it and extract the drivers from a full version. Place these drivers in your custom ROM and install it on the phone?
In M8 section there is an app called Rom Cleaner maybe its compatible with desire 816. Or use Titanium backup to remove bloatware.
The insert coin rom allows you to remove a lot of apps prior to flashing. After flashing I had 2 gig's of space free.

I had the same problem because I love stock. I tried almost all the rooted apps (titanium, root uninstaller, rom toolbox) but couldn't seem to delete the system apps. But I found a way to do so.
There's a recovery application called "Aroma file manager" - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1646108
Flash this in recovery and delete all the system apks you want to. Make sure to mount system first before flashing
Cheers.

You couldn't delete the system applications because of the HTC's daft decision to add write protection to the /system partition which (in our case) can only be bypassed by paying 25$ for a Sunshine S-OFF exploit. Aroma file manager is also an option but managing the system from the system itself is way more comfy

I apologize, I couldn't honestly tell you because it has been a long time ago since I tried CM12. It was different things with each release. I would check the thread thoroughly and ask to see what bugs are present in the latest release. I remember little things like the battery not reading correctly or data not working. I'm the type of person that needs something that is 100% functional. Esp. for my job. That's the closest you're going to get for a stock Android (aosp) rom though. I don't even use the HTC Desire 816 anymore. I ended up giving it to my daughter and I ended up getting the One M9. Good Luck.

I understand, me too - last time I used CM12 everything seemed to work pretty well but I reverted back because of the lack of slow-motion feature (Really a minor thing but I love it).
It's free after all so I'll just wait around until (and if) things get ironed out. Sense isn't half bad at all, I just prefer stock Android.
