[Q] A2DP and Mobile Data problem with official ICS ROM - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys! This is my first post on XDA, though I've been using it for quite a while.
I'm not exactly looking for answers/solutions, but rather sharing my problem and see if someone else is having them too.
I have a Latin American version of the I91000 (TTT). I recently upgraded to ICS using the official firmware from Samfirmware (UHLPE). At first everything looked great. The performance improvement was noticeable from the first bootup. Not only was it faster, but the intro video was far smoother and looked nicer. The general UI changes are very nice, and I did notice an improvement in battery life.
However, I've been experiencing a couple of glaring issues that really mared the experience enough to make me want to go back to Gingerbread, which I will probably do.
These are the problems:
1. The mobile data connection is very unstable. Sometimes it just doesn't load anything, and sometimes I lose the signal altogether. The 3G/H/H+ icon disappears and all. I never had this problem in GB during the 6 months I've had this phone.
2. The Bluetooth audio connection also has problems. It's now more unstable and susceptible to interference, and the lag is also much more noticeable now. It was about .5 seconds before, but now it's more than a full second.
But that's not the worst issue. The media remote control functions just stopped working altogether, namely, the |<< , >>| , >/|| buttons on my headset. I have a Nokia BH505 Bluetooth headset, and I didn't have any of these problems before either.
So that's it. I would like to know if someone else is experiencing one or both of these issues. I'll also check the Samfirmware forums to look for replies on the matter. Thank you for your feedback.

[Q] Any major problems with this phone?

I have an SGS1 now. Considering upgrading due to unfixable lag with it. Is the SGS2 free from major problems?
Experience may vary .. but for me, after 1 week (coming from HD2), it's a dream phone. Biggest problem seems to be battery life. My is comparable to HD2, but some people have considerate problems with it.
Battery life (fixable - there are some rogue processes that eat it up), banding (16bit color instead of 24bit - fixable, driver issue).
phone gets very hot when gaming, radio is a bit f***ed in that sometimes you cannot get the internet to work when going from wireless to 3g (workaround is to toggle flight mode, bit annoying to be honest). some are experiencing a yellowish left side of the screen, though i personally do not have that problem.
all in all it's a good phone with a few quirks, but comparing to sgs1, (had it previously as well) i must say that it is quite a leap in the right direction.
speaking of lag on sgs1, have you updated to 2.3.3? i gave the phone to my mom and installed 2.3.3 and the lag is almost gone to be honest.
My Wifi signal seems week ?

Have 2.3.3. but lag returns after a while...
OP, go visit a few forums for phones that have recently been released. The new question isn't "are there any major problems?", but "which major problems should I investigate?" I would challenge any existing SGS2 user to point out a dual-core phone that has fewer issues. You'll find "different" issues, but not "fewer." For now, for me, there's no phone currently out that I'd replace the SGS2 with.
And OP, the direct answer to your question is find the threads on display banding, Wi-FI performance, GPS, 2/3/4G radio, audio, camera, and battery life and if, based on your needs, you're OK with what's been discussed you should be fine.
OP, just read across this board and see! No need for a new thread.
Had it for a few days. My wifi works fine, no light leaking out of the sides, battery life is normal for an Android smartphone. I don't notice any banding (and I'm not going to go looking for it).
Coming from a Nexus One it's a massive upgrade. Couldn't be happier with it (aside from the loudspeaker quality, iPhone 4 is better in this regard).
By all means take the plunge. It's the best phone currently on the market.

I have to keep resetting my internet connection (Go into Airplane mode, and out) as it seems to get stuck when switching from H(SDPA?) to 3G...
I'd say it's a major... but only effects a few people, it seems.

Which network are you using? It could be an issue on the provider's end! I am on Telstra NextG and find that the issue occurs only in certain areas. I believe it is very tower-dependant as I can go into areas where it flips between 3G and HSPDA+ many many times without fail and then I can get into an area which I assume have not been upgraded and I will end up with the phone stuck in one of the two modes and not be able to transfer data.
I really want this phone when it comes to Canada. The issues seem either minor or limited to small percentage of units. No different than the SGS1 or any piece of technology for that matter. Defective units do make it out the door, that is why there are warranty and return periods.
As to the issue some of you guys are having with loss of data signal, the SGS1 had an issue while on Eclair where when you were in a no signal area the phone would totally freeze and you would have to reboot. It's been fixed since Froyo along with many other bugs.
Enjoy your phone, I hope to join ya'll in the not too distant future.

I am assuming the connectivity issue people are having is with the "up arrow" constantly lit up but not the down arrow. This problem I have seen in every single android handset I have used (G1, Optimus T, SGS1, and of course, the SGS2). The only common denominator is that I have used all of them while on T-Mobile USA's network. It almost always happens when I am in areas with spotty reception, or in other words, instances when I lose signal, momentarily.
However, that isn't the biggest issue for me. I bought the SGS2 to play the Gameloft games I bought on my SGS1, and I can tell you right now that this is the biggest shock to me when I did get my SGS2: none of my Gameloft games work (Asphalt 6, MC2, NOVA2, Eternal Legacy). Although I am finding out more and more about why this is the case now, this was not something I saw coming in the research I've done leading up to my purchase of this phone. 2D games seem to work fine, but if you intend to play 3D games on this phone, I suggest running some searches here with the the name of a game-in-question to see if there are any threads already about its compatibility with the SGS2.
That being said, I do not regret buying this phone one bit. It is hands down the smoothest Android experience I have ever had. I cannot slow this phone down even when I tried, and I am a very heavy user--I can drain my Vibrant's battery in under 3 hours, with di.fm playing while I use feedly and the browser while talking on beejive. This phone can handle that with no slowdown, and last much longer than my Vibrant to boot. I've actually gotten through a full workday with this usage pattern, on a single charge. This is the first phone to last me through an entire day. Even my iPhone needed charging mid-day.

I have just ported to Telstra, from Three ... and the whole train trip home has been perfect. On 3, I had to restart 3 or 4 times.
So, yeah, seem Telstra is OK.

That was the biggest pile of junk i had ever owned. In 5 months the charging port quit working. In 8 months power botten failed. So then, all the phone would do is boot over and over. Completly usless.

Some SGS2 problems could be device specific? Maybe? Post your findings...

Hi, I have recently come back to an SGS2 after dumping one after they first came out. The reason for me was terrible battery life, the 3G, H, H+ switching lockup issue, and poor GPS performance. At the time I think the most recent firmware was XXKE4. My original phone was originally on 3, which I de-branded and upgraded every time a newer version of firmware got released, after a couple of weeks use I noticed a duff pixel, so re-branded, took it back and swapped it for another, did the same customisation and it was still no good, I could be wrong, but I think the received signal strength was worse on the second one too. In any case the aforementioned issues still remained. In the end I got rid of it and went for a HTC sensation.
This proved, ultimately, to be a bad choice, what with all the dust issues, and an even bigger battery life problem than the SGS2, also, despite popular belief, i think the build quality of the SGS2 is better, sensation is horrible and creaky. Anyway, I ended up getting all disappointed with dual-core phones, and went back to my trusty old LG optimus one for a bit of normality. Eventually tho, I got the opportunity to own an SGS2 again, and I crumbled..
Now, I have an SGS2, I was immediately greeted with a software update, which I did, to XWKG4, still 3 branded, only mod was insecure kernel, root, reflash standard kernel. That's it.
Now I have no 3G, H, H+ switching issues, it takes its time sometimes but never gets completely stuck like it used to, GPS is better, Signal strength is actually good, no browser flash crashes, and most impressive, even set up as it was before with multiple push email, whatsapp, skype running constantly, twitter, constant syncing, wifi on all the time, gps on all the time, no battery saving at all, it's using about 4% an hour in standby. Which I think is pretty darn good. In fact, I can't find anything to complain about.
Seems to me, some of these problems could be related to individual handsets, so i'm keeping this one, and not gonna be messing with any ROM's either.
Anyone else got one that "just seems to work"?
Pink spot on camera is my only problem, playing with white balance almost solves this. I get 10 - 12hrs heavy use, 36hrs medium use and 48ish hrs light use. all with wifi on constantly, gps on, emails on push. no signal issues, no yellow or blue tint on screen. sound through headphones is great on power amp, never used stock player, no wake up lag. from reading on here we may be the lucky ones tho, either that or the other happy people don't bother posting
Btw I'm on unbranded voda UK, kf3, stock Rom without root
My wifi keeps dropping out. It'll work for 10 minutes and then stop completely yet still show bars of signal. Latest firmware i've used is KG3. I've now taken it in to be fixed.
No Probs with wifi here, seems to work just fine. Actually, just had my first issue, although nothing major, was using the built in email app, just went to reply to an email and it kept insisting that it was an unrecognized email address, wouldn't let me reply, so just binned it and gone back to using Gmail.
Had 2 phones from O2 in the UK and both have poor in call volume through the headset.
Music volume is fine. I think it uses different hardware for voice calls? Which means it might not be fixable via firmware. I'll make do tho cause everything else is smashing!

What are the major issues with CM7 on the Touchpad?

What are the major issues with CM7 on the Touchpad?
Well, its an alpha port, meaning not everything is gonna work.
First of all, its not stable, some apps WILL crash, wifi settings sometimes will fail to work, fluctuating your signal. Almost every popular app seems to work now, netflix, facebook, gmail, youtube works alright, the quality of the videos is not that good but bearable. Sometimes random SoD (sleep of death) occur putting your table into a semi perm sleep stage, and you have to press the power button and home button and hold them for 20 seconds or so.
Overall, its 6/10 of what it can be. don't expect 2.3 to work as good as your phone.
The main problems for me are:
Incompatible apps, either from the resolution and screen size, or not landscape optimized.
No VOIP integration.
Video does not play, either from youtube or flash, it shows lines and other static.

The wife and I have had virtually no major problems. The biggest one was not being able to connect to wifi outside of home but that seems to be fixed with a post I found here. Otherwise its small things, occasional app crashes, the odd app that wont run. Its no different than just about any custom rom on a phone (and I have seen many). Once in a blue moon ill get a random freeze/reboot. Never had the sod problem, Netflix, YouTube, flash videos all run like butter, I can stream anything I want, really, the TP has taken over as my main home device

Thanks for the replies. I bought my TP with the intention to install Android on it. Ive been waiting for a stable release, with ICS out it will probably be another 2 mths.
The main issue ive read about is the WiFi, which is pretty critical for what I use the TP for. Why do some people have the issue and others dont? Is there something that can be done to lessen the issue?

I turned off the setting that allows the wifi to turn off when the tablet goes to sleep. I also used the SOD fix just in case as well after I installed Alpha 2. That seems to do a good job keeping it connected.
Another thing I had to do was use my wireless G signal instead of my wireless N signal (I have dual band). On wireless N, I was getting a very weak signal but with wireless G the signal was very strong. Using WebOS, the wireless N was as strong as the G so I have to assume there is something weird with CM7 for this.
My only main issue is with wi-to. It's very sporatic and frustrating. Is anyone aware of a fix? Other than, just typical issues nothing critical. It's a surprisingly stable Alpha other than that. Facebook also doesn't work for me, but not a large issue.
My major issue is that I can't connect to my work's wifi with enterprise level encryption. I once got it to connect, but webpages would only load sometimes. On my home wifi, I have no issues connecting.
The other issues I've seen are that I woke up this morning, and my Touchpad was off instead of asleep. The battery wasn't dead or anything, and it turned back on fine. When I loaded Angry Birds, it crashed twice, but the third time it worked perfectly.

What SOD fix?
Every time I want to shutdown my TP in CM7 it gets restarted instead, and there was one time I got nut and forced shutdown it when it was booting and the system crashed. I had to uninstall and install everything which wasted my whole night in that day.....

I've run many custom ROMs on my Incredible and on my Eris, without app issues like this. The eris has a lot of apps that don't run well, but I can assure you this is not a custom ROM issue. I have yet to see an app that won't run on my incredible with custom ROMS.
BTW the wifi seems to work better for me at least with alpha 3. Before flashing alpha 3 my wifi was completely non-working, it would crash when I went into wifi settings.
I need my youtube and its not working properly on alpha 2 or 3. Once thats fixed I'm good on cm7.
But I"m still waiting for some one to do honeycombo or ICS

Anyone else, NOT impressed with ICS?

Is anyone else not impressed with Ice Cream Sandwich the recent 'update' for our Sony S tablets?
I, and I suspect many others have many issues, in particular mine are:
Poor WiFi stability, weaker signal, takes a while to connect, and, yes, I'm only a few metres from my router.
Screen flickers for no apparent reason ... just annoying.
A lot of my apps don't work anymore, or, are sluggish at best, even paid 'pro' apps too.
It seems to lock up on (many) occasions, can't change screens, powering on and off, mostly clears this ..... for a while!
If I could, I'd be happy to back revert to Honeycome, the previous OS, it was faster, stable, all my apps worked great, good WiFi.
It's not a pleasent experience using the Sony S tablet anymore .........
Anyone else thoughts on this?
Sorry, I but I do not share your woes. I got my tablet only a few weeks before ICS was released and although I experience one or two issues, and I certainly am not having the problems you seem to be.
Yes, I the screen flickering is annoying.. Curiously this is mainly an issue when I am running YouTube. But I am certainly experiencing less issues now than I was with HC. I can stay connected to wifi, and for a start. Which was a challenge with HC.
I appreciate that new SW comes with bugs. And am disappointed that the length of time it takes for Android bugs to be fixed. But generally, and I find ICS ok.

WIFI
I am in THE USA and i am having a lot of trouble with the wifi on this tablet...it works when it wants to basically.... i have to turn wifi off then on and it works. SO UPDATE FROM SONY NEEDED TO ALL USERS!!!
LOVE ME,
WERETANT
ICS Rocks! :victory:
I am happy with ICS, no problem at all on my unrooted tablet s.
It's faster and more smooth than before !
For me ICS has soem good and some bad changes:
good:
1) faster, specially the remote is now a lot faster to change device
2) some nice new features, like the small apps
3) wifi works better. It starts faster and more reliable. Before ICS I often had to start it manually after sleep. Now it starts automatically almost always.
bad:
1) remote gets stuck sometimes and I need to wait 10-15 secs before it works again (daily)
2) system locks up now and then and needs to be reset via the reset pin (about once a week)
3) screen flicker (does not bother me much, very minor thing)
Overall I would recommend ICS update, but it is not perfect
If you had your screen in stand-by, you wi-fi would probaly be off, thats not a big deal and yes its a bug, but its not going to be repaired atm, so we have to live with it, even if you turn on your screen again, it won't search automatic for signal, but only thing you have to do is going to settings>wi-fi and thats it not even touching other buttons, then it will auto detect and connect no problem,
The screen flickering, well yes its annoying but no its not that bad, just make shure the tab hasn't many apps working at the same time, keep killing apps, and it will happen not as much anymore,
I think ICS is way better then Honeycomb, so not only the looks but also the system, its fast good looking and stable. at least for me. i can't complain so i won't 2 little things can not end the pleasure of this beatifull tablet,
If you don't want any problems just wait for the Windows 8 microsoft Tablet, or simply buy a normal Laptop, android is growing really fast but its not as big as other olders systems, be proud with what you have.
Please keep in mind i'm dutch so my english could be ****ty.

Xperia Tablet S - 4.1.1- Observations

Hi folks,
Thought it would be best to start a new thread instead of clutter the release thread.
What do we make of the JellyBean upgrade for the Xperia Tablet S?
So far;
- Not received any random shuts downs, the device used to turn off over night.
- Screen flickering 'seems' to have been eradicated.
- Battery life has improved considerably when compared to a days usage on ICS yesterday.
- UI is indeed buttery smooth - no lag experience yet.
- Device wakes up instantly when the power button is pushed. Used to take a few seconds on ICS.
- Camera quality seems better for me. Images aren't blurred.
- Rendering issue with the default browser seems to have been fixed.
The tablet now seems to well rounded off. Perhaps if this was released earlier, they'd made a few more sales.
Overall, I'm pretty satisfied.
Things ive observed:
Positive:
- No shutdowns.
- No issues with video playback.
- Rendering in browser is indeed better.
- Battery life is better, 4.0.3 is known for battery ineffectiveness.
- Less overall delays, better transitions.
- Havent noticed screen flickering for now.
Negative:
- Wifi problem still persists, wifi still gets disconnected if the display is switched off. It then gets reconnected again, but its still annoying.
- Wifi still cant be turned on when you click on the settings bar in bottom right, instead of that, you need to enter in the settings menu first.
- Homescreen is still uncustomisable (you cant add or remove home screens)
- Overall, i cant see why it took Sony so long to release this tablet out, since most of the improvements are already Jelly Bean Stock related.
- AGAIN, THE BOOTLOADER IS LOCKED AND THE TABLET IS HARD TO ROOT

This isnt the way its suppose to be, and it isnt like that on any other android device, including my Xperia Arc S and my friends Galaxy S3.
Normally, when you turn off the screen, the wifi is supposed to be on, so you still recieve notifications, but on XTS, it doesnt work, even if you set the wifi options to "Never turn off Wifi when turning off the display, even if the Wifi isnt being used".
Pros
No shutdowns so far
Stock browser is really fluid and support flash
Is all around more stable and fixed some graphics issues
Its jellybean, so we got the "new" api
Better multitasking
Cons
The 3d graphic performance has decreased a lot
The ui is a combination of sony, ics and jellybean and is not... clean
New graphic glitches
No major update feel, this is like ics with some things ported from jb...really mediocre
improvements
more respondsive faster then 4.0.3
5G performance wen't up 85%
no random shutdowns yet.
bluetooth headset interfearance with 5G not had so far think its fixed, can't confirm 2.4g yet.
bugs
google voice if saying set alarm in 10 hours it searches instead or sets alarm in 2 hours, or searched random stuff non related to what if asked it to do.
text got ported from xperia T which low resolution font some of ui elements got ported asswell.
if you look at the bar you see its bit pixelated even on big fonts.
UI is't butter smooth always
apps crash a lot especialy stock browser on sony america's own forum.
sony remotes don't fully save or only partly save or not save at all setup problem.
screen flickering is now a spark that sometimes occurs but less common.
missing stuff
jelly bean home launcher
jelly bean butter smooth animations.
jelly bean homescreen
jelly bean lock screen
jelly bean fonts icons
jelly bean camera app the one now is from ICS
In before get a full refund already, btw they did offer me one today i just told them i don't want one.
I'm not any better off with different brand due my curse anyway.
Oh, screen flickering has completely gone for me to.
You've basically covered everything there is about this update. It's definitely a lot more polished than ics ever was, which I am grateful for.

I'm not really sure if these wi-fi drops are a bug anymore, as this could simply be a 'deep-sleep' or battery saving function. I have a friend who's tab also has these drops, although I can't quite remember what it was.

I just tried setting a number of alarms and various commands with Google Voice and it worked flawlessly, do you think it might be your accent that it is having trouble with?
Font's are really clear on mine as well as SWF has reported, perhaps there is something wrong with your screen? Just had a look with a magnifying glass as well and doesn't seem to be any excessive anti-aliasing either? Alot of fonts are vector based, which can scale without quality degradation, I would be surprised it these were a bitmap font, but don't know for sure.
I agree with your points about the stock JB icons and homescreens, damn Sony and their branding across all devices! If only they could just leave JB as it is and pop their bloatware on.
Sounds like Sony have been pretty reasonable with you to offer you a full refund for the tablet, if you do decide to turn that down you really will have to stop complaining about it, as much as you want to, your voice just isn't going to speed up their updates and/or improve their quality for you. Just going to have to suck it and and live with it...glitches an' all.

it actualy often search it instead which makes me think its not just accent.
If i ask who's president of america it does work correctly.
I can set dutch voice recognition asswell inside google voice no problem but again it works like crap and even worse.
Maybe its my top denture that i'm having or my tmj dysorder which makes me speak little harder.
Anyway if read so far more people reporting issues with font, old font was more crispier and sharper in ics 4.0.3 release6b

Think you not realising some issues might be just per region also or certain range, maybe your lucky or maybe your just blind.
Maybe its my social disability and my autism, but as i understand you now you talk as if no one has issues and their no issues for anyone.
then again your quoting me on that which makes me believe you think their no issues at all and i'm just picky guy.
Anyway if not always been picky but if you buy lot products in a year and see they are all DOA death on arival or damaged on arival or death after a month or damaged after a month, you really start to get pissed off a lot.
Now fear is playing with me and i got replacement which has right side where buttons are not sealed off correctly.
Sony insisted to give full refund even after i told them i don't want to.
It was't untill i say'd i was talking with other people from sony about software bugs and passing on feedback through them to the devs that they given me the choice for replacement.
Anyway won't known whats gonna happen untill tomorow.
Anyway i can basically take peak inside since not sealed properly which made me panick that was't splash proofed either.
Also a close of port was molten ruber.
I see broken products as a curse that i wanna get rid off asap, i wanna buy products that are in perfect quality condition not semi quality or poor quality.
software or hardware related.
Even wen't through like 12 eye glasses in single year all different opticiens all either scratch coating not right or AR coating not working.
along with all other problems if had with even samsung corrupt schandal they pulled with me i developed lot stress and tmj dysorder.
Anyway every time i buy something their something wrong it drains my will to life.
These software issues like blurry text i can life with for the momment better then random shutdowns, but these are issues that should be adressed and fixed.
The biggest deal atm is missing jelly bean homescreen and features.
but i do realise they just fixed random shutdowns and felt it was improvement aka rushed out for just that reason, and that a few follow up updates will follow soon to slowly add missing stuff and fix current bugs.

Ok ok, I'm not getting into the pissing match again, we all know what happened last time.
But maybe have a think about your previous statement as it might actually be more relevant to you, not me. I have nice clear text and you don't - so who is blind? Maybe take a picture up close and in focus and post it and we could compare to see if your anti-aliasing is much worse than on other users, just a thought.
Over and out.
Keep the tone of the conversation civil, or I'll close the thread.
MD
Pressing the power button to wake is still kinda slow for me but it's whatever, and Wi-Fi reconnects a lot faster when it comes back from sleep so I have no problem with it.
Sent from my LT28at using xda app-developers app
When pressing the power button it takes a while to wake up on mine too! When I enable WiFi I have to disable and re-enable it to connect to any of my saved networks most of the times! :/
Hmm, that's interesting as the device wakes up instantly and the WiFi reconnects immediately too!
Weird.
Xperia Tablet S
I received JB update for my device yesterday. Now i got some little bugs.
After update, i tried to charge the battery. At %90, lockcreen notification indicated full charge and red led on side of the device turned to green. Anyway I continued to charge and it could reach %100.
Another issue, yesterday night i used my device over 1 hour watching youtube and surfing the net without any problems. This morning i started to watch youtube, but in the middle of a video device lost wifi signal for a while and recovered again. Then it started to do the same thing frequently (like maybe 3 minutes intervals). I shut down the device completely ad restarted, now i'm observing with a long youtube video.
One more thing. Sometimes (but very rarely) i see a thin horizontal line on the screen. It looks like a noise.
Regards,
I noticed the battery percentage issue in ICS, but seeing as though my Xperia T also had it, I assumed it was some built in feature by Sony?
Power saving perhaps?
Also, since running JellyBean, I've seen the line you mentioned on 2 occasions. Did I read somewhere that some Tegra 3 devices experience it - seems rare though, or at least alot rarer than the screen flickering on ICS?
