They should, although if you're running the stock ROM I think there's a different process than with other Samsung devices.
If you get a different ROM most of them support the regular boot animations.

Yes I am running and rooted stock. Not sure if there are any stable custom ROMs for the SGP 5 yet? I downloaded GenericGinger but have yet to flash.
So the custom boots won't run on the Stock Rom?

Here are a few ROMs that you have to choose from.

I have set a few boot animations using the Eryigit one, i have not tested it on the others.

is there a new version besides 2.5.1.2.
every time i install a theme it gets stuck at vibrant start up screen. i have tried different themes and it has the same result. I'm thinking it's the CWM. any ideas?
The CWR version has zero to do with it. More than likely you are trying to flash themes that are not compatible with your rom.

This is true you need to check as now with GB, and Advanced Froyo as well as standard froyo,,,, different varieties of bootloaders etc. alot of the themes are rom specific. Also,
Try booting into recovery manually by using the vol=/- method this is the best way to get into recovery anyway, if it doesn't work using that method then it never will. BUT 1st thing make sure what you flash is compatible with your Rom
i have the stock rom should i flash a different one?

I don't think any themes work for the stock Eclair or Froyo ROMs.
So I've never flashed this device before, and I got it today but I'd like a custom ROM flashed to it.
Could someone point me to the following:
-A working ODIN link for this device
-A custom ROM (GB) that has all working features (camera, etc) and is built for the INTL 5.0 version (I've been looking at this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1465144)
-A guide for getting CWM recovery.
Cheers.
This thread has all the info you are looking for.

I personally have used the Eryigit rom you linked and it works fine.
Have fun.
I would stay away from Cyanogen and its variations right now if you want everything to work. CM7 has issues with wifi (and other stuff) and CM9 has no HW Acceleration -kernel issues.
Pretty much any rom based on stock is a safe bet.

Check in the custom kernel section and download the kernel according to your device.
Look in the thread cvcduty posted in the custom kernel section. The kernels have CWM packaged with them. You'll need Odin to flash them. If you search the forums you'll probably find a link for Odin... or google it
Make sure you use the rigth kernel for your specific device. The 5" and 4" are different and there are two versions of the 5". Not sure if there is more than one version of the 4" or not.

Thanks mate, that's what I wasn't sure about. If I happen to flash the wrong kernel I can overwrite it with the correct one as usual, correct? and it's Odin3 v1.3 I need, isn't it?
All sounds right to me. Even with a bad kernel you'll have download mode to fall back on.

Thanks, just flashed it and got a boot loop.
Edit: Could be because I flashed a GB kernel while still on froyo, I best revert to stock kernel and do a KIES update first
Edit2: Tried to go stock but still a boot loop -_-
This has gone, extremely well...
/sarcasm
I just downloaded Odin 1.3 and flashed Entrophy's DD as we discussed. No issues on my device - as i anticipated because this is how I did mine initially. Which model do you have? Another question, did you try to boot into CWM after you flashed the kernel (VolUp + Power). If you can get into CWM then your good to flash whatever ROM you want, even if the Stock ROM is boot-looping.

I just installed this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1579774
It's a rooted stock GB ROM with a custom kernel. Supports both USA and International devices.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1720457
Check out this thread again. It has most of the ROMs listed as "Stock Based" or "CM Based". I'm running GB.XXKPH.WT-0.4.0 for Galaxy Player 5.0 Intl & US and it seems to be a good one. Several people like Eryigit-GB-2.3.
On another note, I'm actually trying to continue ambrice's development on CM7 but can't get my build to boot.
Hi. I wont introduce myself as there is no need for that, i'll just say that i have no how to PROPERLY install a ROM and Kernel on an Android. I know how to do it in Symbian S60V5, but that was ages ago.
I have a Galaxy Player 5.0 International, YPG70-EB confused
I already rooted it, but i dont like the TouchWiz 3.0 at all. I installed a custom TW 4.5, its much better but it crashes often. So i got rid of it.
Anyways, what is a Kernel? Do i need to put a custom Kernel? If yes, before the ROM or after the ROM? Do you install the both via ZIP file in
Android System Recovery (3e) ?
I'm sorry for being a total noob, i already tried this once and i hard bricked my Player. Cost me 20 euros to fix it.
Firmware version: 2.3.5
Kernel version: 2.6.35-G70XXKPF-CL562492 ([email protected] #2)

Link for custom ROMs
Go to this link. You can find all the custom ROMs as well as stock ones for the Samsung Galaxy Player. Note that the stock based ROMs are simply modified versions of stock firmware, most have alternate launchers installed. The non-stock based ROMs usually have some problems, so if you want a fully working ROM with cool tweaks, use a stock-based one.

You cant make a dual boot rom. But there are dual boot kernels which you flash yourself and then can install a second rom aswell. I dont know which kernels do this but there is one or 2

I advise you to install Siyah kernel 1.9 it's let you combine 2 rom's personnaly I installed in First Rom a Samsung based rom like WanamLite; and in the second rom I install the latest CM 10.1 it work perfectly . however I still have issue after changing from the WanamLite Rom to the latest Omega 44.4.
My phone crashes after the first Boot. I'm working on it

I'd like some more info if you know.
What version android is it running?
Is the phone rooted or running a custom rom?
Does the phone boot up and run at all?
What version android is it running?
I have tried different roms the current one is supernexus 4.2.2 and the last was PA 3.5#. PA seemed to run the best so far
Is the phone rooted or running a custom rom?
Rooted w/ custom rom
Does the phone boot up and run at all?
Yes and for the most part it worked fine, it just rebooted randomly.
I have tried a bunch of other ROMs as well but they seem to crash a lot / random reboot more.
I installed the ROMs myself (I know how to do it) and he never touched the system, when I installed I used TWRP 2.5.0.0 deleted cache, system, factory reset installed rom and cleaned cache afterwards.
He has a bell Galaxy Note - i717 which is calle QunicyATT i believe.
One partially unresolved issue with the 4.2.2 roms are random reboots, due to the kernel they have been building with.
There are some stable rom-kernel combinations available.

I use stock, for greatest stability. I value that above all the other features.
No opinion on 4.2.2.

It doesn't need to be 4.2.2, just anything stable and minus TW crap.
What TouchWiz crap?
You can use the debloated stock and change to any launcher.
I have to chime in and say ... ics Gubment Cheeze was ALWAYS as stable as stock for me ... yes I am very partial to it But it is fact .. but any ics rom should do the trick for you ... (but Cheeze is best) .. best of luck
