Hi. I wont introduce myself as there is no need for that, i'll just say that i have no how to PROPERLY install a ROM and Kernel on an Android. I know how to do it in Symbian S60V5, but that was ages ago.
I have a Galaxy Player 5.0 International, YPG70-EB confused
I already rooted it, but i dont like the TouchWiz 3.0 at all. I installed a custom TW 4.5, its much better but it crashes often. So i got rid of it.
Anyways, what is a Kernel? Do i need to put a custom Kernel? If yes, before the ROM or after the ROM? Do you install the both via ZIP file in
Android System Recovery (3e) ?
I'm sorry for being a total noob, i already tried this once and i hard bricked my Player. Cost me 20 euros to fix it.
Firmware version: 2.3.5
Kernel version: 2.6.35-G70XXKPF-CL562492 ([email protected] #2)
Build number: GINGERBREAD.XXKPF (KPF, not KPH )

Camera is working.
try flashing again.

Link for custom ROMs
Go to this link. You can find all the custom ROMs as well as stock ones for the Samsung Galaxy Player. Note that the stock based ROMs are simply modified versions of stock firmware, most have alternate launchers installed. The non-stock based ROMs usually have some problems, so if you want a fully working ROM with cool tweaks, use a stock-based one.

how to do a full back up - i saw a guide for the 4.0 but not applicable for the 5.0
upgrading from froyo to ginger bread is it possible to revert back to froyo if anything goes wrong?

Please read here... This thread should answer most of your questions.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1720457
If you are wanting to upgrade to Froyo but are not sure about playing with custom roms, due to fear of bricking, etc... just do a factory upgrade to GB via Kies... no risk in doing so... and if anything was to go wrong, it's Samsung factory upgrade so you should be covered via warranty.
If you are brave enough to venture into custom roms, there are few options available for you. GB roms are pretty safe... no need for pre work... just download the custom GB roms and flash using Odin3... most of these roms will work for both US & INT versions of the players, provided that you flash the right kernel. Anyway... do some reading. Good luck...
Also, if you flash a kernel first, you can make a nandroid backup which can take you back to froyo.

Not really afraid of trying out custom roms i just feel the need to do a full backup before diving in in case something screw up but cant find any guide for doing so
i tried kies but it seems like mea models are not having GB updates from sammy
Flashing the kernel seems like a good idea but is it rom dependent let say rj custom kernel for intl version will it work on froyo assuming it is from GB (not sure)
Again i want to do a full backup before trying things up

Kernel version is independent of android version. I believe both yp-g70 kernels are based on the source thar Samsung released with froyo anyways.

If you want to install a different kernal, I recommend u to use Entropy512's kernal and when you flash, use an older version of super one click because you need to root it.

Hi guys
Bascially I need to have Android 2.3 on my Galaxy WiFi 5.0, I need HD video etc so im running into a problem. I have installed Eryigit-GB-2.3.6 G70ZCKPA Galaxy Player/wifi 5.0 ROM at the minute but I really would like unmodified 2.3 ROM not this one yet when I try to use odin to flash this ROM: Galaxy Player 5.0 Gingerbread KPH 2.3.6 it says every thing went ok but the device bootloops. Now Ive tried it with just the ROM and then Flashed the Kernel INTL one and it still does this?
Any help guys thanks
Please don't reply if all you have to say is "why go back to ginger bread when there are ics roms" ino i developed a couple of them i just need helpful answers thanks

Well the obvious first thing is that the stock kernel does not support ext4, so it will not boot without access to /data and /cache. Try going into stock recovery and wiping data. If it just gives you a bunch of errors, you need to flash and *repartition* in Odin. Then try wiping in stock again.

howdy,
I just got this i9100 with the kernel : 2.6.35.7-i9100XWKDD-CL161513 [email protected] #2.
I'd like to put cfroot and clockword etc.. on it but I got a little bit confused.
From what I understand I have to put a newer version kernel on it with similar name "XWKDD".
I tried to find a similar one in the chainfire thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399 but i couldnt manage.
So basically my question is which kernel do I use if I want to put a miui or resurrection remix or any 4.1 ROM on it?
Can i just put this Dorimanx one on it via Odin? That seems to work with everything?!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1617219
Also the phone is running stock 2.3.3, rooted but it doesnt have custom recovery.
One more thing if I put another another kernel on it, the I mentioned for example, will it still run the stock Gingerbread?
Thank you in advance
I recommend you to upgrade your phone to ICS, then flash custom kernel and ROM.

Well I tried to update it with Kies, but the bloody thing just crashed on me so I'm pretty afraid of that evil program.
Can I upgrade the official ICS with Odin too?
Also if I do it with Odin is it enough if I only put the ROM on it? Does that update the kernel too (same for the kies if i try again with that, that updates the kernel too?)?
Btw i couldnt find a stock kernel with this code that mine has

Siyah won't work on GB. you can upgrade to stock ICS via Odin. Download a 4.0.3 firmware for your device from sammobile.com and install via Odin. Then flash a custom kernel. For the ROMs you mentioned, siyah is preferable simply since dorimanx has a couple of versions. And determining which version will support which ROM might get a little confusing if you're just starting out. Just my opinion, start off wit siyah, then can switch over to dorimanx later when you figure out which versions support which ROMs.
Good luck.
EDIT: yes, just installing the ROM (firmware) is enough. It'll include the stock ICS kernel along with it.

I found the Siyah 4.1.5 kernel I assume this is it, http://www.gokhanmoral.com/gm/2012/09/08/siyahkernel-s2-v4-1/, does it put custom recovery and root on it automatically?
Yes.but first you'll have to be on ICS.

does it matter which regional ICS i download? I mean, the guy i bought it from said its originally unlocked, but at boot UK O2 pops up /im not using O2 tho so it seems to be true, im just sayin .
Not so much. The only difference between firmwares for different regions is the modem. If after rooting you find your signal isn't as good as it was earlier, you can always flash a different modem at a later stage.

Hi All,
I need a quick help.
currently i have a kernel 3.4.X for KitKat ROM LWW (coconut) downloaded from this site http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2755249 kernel is good with good RAM & Battery performance, but it has some bugs like Wi-fi, videos can't play, can't take video recording etc..
Now i have downloaded another kernel and wanted to test it. So, do i just need to flash the New kernel on top of the present kernel one. or
should i need to go back to the stock build version WT19i_4.1.B.0.587 and then i need to flash the New kernel or what ?
Thanks in Advance,
First of all you need to tell us which kernel you r flashing on this phone.you need to find out is it comp atible to the rom you use.if yes you can use it without problems

If the new kernel is compatible with your current rom, just flash it and it'll work. There's no need to flash the stock rom and you won't lose any data

Take the OTA to the latest firmware for the at&t s2 which is Android 4.1.2 and then root it using the frama root app (just search Google for it). Once rooted pick a kernel to flash in ODIN or mobile ODIN. For AOSP ROMs I think ktoonsez kernel works and for touchwiz ROMs AJ kerwick kernel works well. I recommend flashing AJ kernel first as it works with the stock Samsung ROM.
Once you have flashed AJ kernel boot into recovery which will now be CWM recovery. From there you can flash shoStock ROM or whizz cat ROM (see my guide here in the s2 forums on how to boot i9100 TW ROMs) or any AOSP ROMs you like. Just make sure you have an AOSP kernel for AOSP ROMs and a touch wiz kernel for TW ROMs. Most ROMs come with a kernel though.
