franco.Kernel flashed and bricked my phone - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

i flashed this through CMW recovery and phone wont boot wont do anything at all and its says it for the galaxy note

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.franco.kernel.note

Wrong note. Franco kernel only out for the international version, not ours (ATT VERSION).
Im guessing you can put your phone in download mode and flash a stock kernel using ODIN.
Search for stock kernel in this forum. Instructions in OP

Reading is everything. The international note n7000 is not compatible with the US Canada i717. Sorry

i did read it in market and it didnt say that is was for either one but it doesnt even pick up at all

it would be easy to confuse people...I read the app...it does say note...and not anything about what model either?....so it can mislead people...he should correct that..if someone can pm him to update so thos wont happen to another person

Less complaining, more recovering. Download mode and stock rom, you have not bricked anything.

less sarcasm because i know how to do all of that next time ask first before assuming you know what that makes you look like the device wont boot period and no download mode and no recovery at all no pc connectivity nothing i have been doing this for a long time and thank you for your help

actually i see it this way. You have the skills to read a forum. thats why you are in the correct forum with the correct device posting about your brick. Since you flashed with recovery and did not have a brick you also know that there is a difference between the devices.
That said. Dont you think there would be a thread (probably somewhere on the first page of this forum) about the kernel if it was for this device?
In conclusion. You failed to demonstrate reading comprehension and now have a brick.
just my .02
Now, your only options are to do one of the following.
1. try to go into download mode and flash stock recovery and rom.
2. ( make sure you read THIS one properly) Take an old laptop charger. cut the cord right where the charger would plug into the laptop. separate the two wires and twist the copper on each wire nice and tight NOT TOGETHER. Take out battery from the device and then plug in the laptop charger. DO NOT WORRY. Laptop chargers will not kill or harm you. Tap the wires on the gold prongs on the device a few times then unplug.
try your device and make sure you cannot turn it on under battery power. If you can not... Call att and have them exchange it.

i did jump the gun when i saw this in the market but i did look for links to your site but it linked to his and i installed it without seen a thread here because i thought to test it before posting he is still at fault in a way of not notifying that it wasnt for att but like i said you are right for not looking here first .....but i didnt know about xda then what ?...and i will try the laptop charger thing now lol wont hurt right... thanks for the sane answer

Does it hurt? Meh. Not really. i zapped myself by accident. dont know if you have ever been around electric fences for cows, horses things like that. but if you have and have touched the fence. its about that same amount of discomfort.
It will kill the device and they wont be able to check to see if you flashed anything you are not supposed to.

Its pretty common knowledge that what YOU do to YOUR device no matter where the code comes from is YOUR responsibility and choice.

Download mode doesnt work
It shows AT&T and keeps rebooting.. over and over. I have no idea if they will exchange it due to it being a t-mobile phone.
Maybe Try the jig
Not sure I know enough about the real issue other than you got the wrong rom. But, there is a jig you can make 301k resistor (or combo of a few to equal that number) soldered to a usb connector on # 4 & 5 pins look it up it will unbrick the phone and get you into the phone from there I not sure what you will need to do next but that would get you into the phone. Btw the resistors and usb cord less than 5 bucks good luck
Dude, you are being childish. I usually never flame but don't say you did because you didn't Enough. Slow down and take your time. If you are doing any kind of mods you should learn how to use Odin first, but unfortunately its always after the fact.
Learn how to use Odin, in the development bible I have a video there to show you how. Doesn't get any easier than that.

You are completely right. I was "trigger happy" you may say and I did it by rushing through it and ruined my phone. Luckily I have not yet sold my 3Gs and could use that until I get tmobile to exchange it.
The jig would most likely work for my case but I would need a step by step guide which unfortunately didn't find with images or video.
If I could just kill the AT&T boot logo it'd be perfect but sadly I can't.
I got the phone two days ago..so I am really sure I can get away with an exchange.
If you return the phone and it is booting with the At&t logo they will now you where messing with it and charge you the full amount of the phone which is around $400.
What you have is a soft brick. You can fix it if you bothered reading. Just follow this:

I wish mine was a soft brick but it isn't. That thread was for "phone ! PC" mine is a tmo vibrant that boot loops as AT&T captive since I flashed the wrong stock kernel.
Remove battery, SIM card and the external SD card.
Connect USB cord
Hold down both volume keys and insert the battery.
I love how everyone gives the same reply. The phone WAS FULLY BRICKED.
I took it to T-Mobile and said I did an update and this is what happened and they gave me a brand spanking new one! =D
Thanks for all your help though.

Please help! i rooted my phone and everything was fine. then i used odin to put on a rom. i followed the instructions which said to choose the re-partition option and place files for the pit, pda and phone sections, here is the rom i was using
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1207466
there was a failed message and my phone was locked in download mode. i shut it down by holding the power button and now it is in a hard bricked state. everything is black and nothing is recognised. when i plug in the charger nothing happens same with usb. ive tried all the button presses i could find volume up+home+power, volume down+home+power, volume down+home with no battery and then place battery... etc.
really nothing is working.

You flashed a I9000 ROM on an I9100 device?!
Kiss your phone goodbye unless you jtag it or send it to the service center.
You have flashed a rom for a different phone. The rom you flashed is for Galaxy S not Galaxy S II..
I have read a thread similar like this before but
for what I can remember his phone is permanently bricked. You might want to search
in the Q&A thread. This thread is for Android Development.

i don't know how i missed that. could you tell me what jtag is? is it the same as a jig?
thanks.
Yes it is totally bricked. Unless you have chance and want to try something. The USB jig to put i9000 and i9100 phone in download is the same ( Both use 151k oHms). If you try to use a jig on your phone you might be able to put it back on download mode. However, i would doubt that it work. Since you don't have the good Bootloader on your phone, i'm more like 97% sure it wont work. The black screen only is also a good sign of death. Sry to ear that. JTag is not the same thing than the jig btw. JTag is how they put the first information, at factory, on your phone. It can be used to put back the good bootloader on your phone. But if i remember well, only phone compagnie ( On this case Samsung) and a few person have what it take to make a JTag.

Thats from the creator of the i9000 ROM you just flashed.
Your phone is 100% bricked, just wondering why did you flash an i9000 ROM on a i9100 ROM, thats not only the wrong phone, but you also added a PIT files with Odin which also is not good for the i9100, and this ROM contains bootloaders.
its 100% bricked, however there is light at the end of the tunnel. A good friend of mine at Mobile Tech Videos can fix your phone 100%
hes the only guy that can do this around the world, only does it for 50 dollars, and he can guarantee fix your phone.
Just dont do this again, maybe next time flash DlevROM

I mean this guy is 100% trusted, and email him if you have questions.
hes the best bet for getting it back fast, and working.
Samsung will most likely play games, take longer, and ask you how this happened.
its your choice, but hes 100% legit, you dont have to use him Im just saying this is the best bet for saving you
Maybe if is better to send it to Samsung and let them figure it out.
If they ask what happened, just tell them that you left it on charger snd a few hours after it was dead. After all i doubt that theg can get info from inside the phone.
They will make a clean flash plus bootloaders.
That is what would i have done.

the reason why you should send it to dlev's friends shop to get it fixed instead of samsung is if samsung finds out what you did to the phone, they will probably charge you an arm and a leg for it...

Bricked

Guys my note seems to be in the most dreadful state possible. It wont turn on, I can't put it in recovery, when I connect it to the computer I can hear a sound signalling it does recognize something, but adb cant find the device (seems like it turns off).
This happened after trying to put the cwm beta4 recovery.img , nobody except me is responsible, I was trying to put flash the image, after running the command however it dint seem to me it made any difference after trying to boot to recovery so, I tried running the command again, except this time, it gave me an error which said it ran out of space or disk space, I tried restarting and it wont turn on.
Any and all help is appreciated.
Please move this to the correct forum.

if you typed mmcblk0p2 instead of mmcblk0p22, then it would explain the out of space, and possibly also the boot error...

this wont reset the counter like on certain devices but it will put the sgh-i717 at&t note into download mode just by plugging it in
then flash back to stock with odin. all of the info to do that is located in this forum
edit.. alot of these guys are right though, if it doesnt react to being plugged in or turned on no matter what, nobody in the at&t store will figure it out, they will mark it defective and give you a new one
Honestly......best idea.... return it. I'd actually suggest leaving it alone, on the off chance you got Odin to recognize it, and maybe halfway fixed the Note, it might then look to whomever you return it to that you broke it somehow. Basically the fact it won't turn on at all is to your benefit at this point.

As for the brick, i concur, returning it at this point would be best. I hate using dd to flash things, one typo can screw up the entire device.
if it turns on at all... you may risk getting it found to be modded. just sayin.
if i were you. Id find an old ac adapter cut the wires and seperate. then zap the prongs where the battery connects. in my experience, old laptop chargers work the best. be sure to cut the end off of the cord that plugs into the laptop. the brick will protect you from fatal or even harmful shock so dont worry.

I agree. Mine was rooted the day I got it.
If you do decide to root the replacement, reading is your friend. Read, read again, and read it a third time. Then don't be afraid to read it more if necessary, and a you're doing the steps.
Well on the way to my fairytale!

I agree. Mine was rooted the day I got it.
If you do decide to root the replacement, reading is your friend. Read, read again, and read it a third time. Then don't be afraid to read it more if necessary, and a you're doing the steps.
Well on the way to my fairytale!

I had it rooted, it was while trying to install cwm, I did read it a few times, perhaps needs more reading, I had tinkered with iphones quite a bit, but I never had a bricked device ever in like 4 years, I never thought it could goto a state where the only real way to bring it back would it be to connect to a jtag device.

[Q] Hard bricked??? Impossible?

My brother went and flashed a custom international rom. He doesnt remember which one, not that I think it matters at this point. Ive flashed many roms, I've even bricked a few phones, but with alot of reading on the xda site, and all the help from dev's have always unbricked my phone. His samsung doesnt turn on, does not go into recovery or into download mode. Ive tried taking the battery out holding both + - vol then usb then battery. nothing. When plugged into usb without battery, light turns on, when plugged into comp , comp starts looking for a driver, so i dont think its complety bricked yet, but it comes back with this message QHSUSb_dload. Ive read up on other phones on this message, any help with how to solve this. thanks
First slap him for not reading and then go to the development section of your carrier and look for fix thread for your issue I know attention has none not sure about the other carriers.

If he's seeing QHSUSB DLOAD its hard bricked. From what I've seen looking into this, I believe some HTC's have been able to be recovered from this mode but its not possible for us w/o JTAG. Someone correct me if I'm wrong and shed some light on the subject if they have any. Very intrigued by this and think that somehow an unbrick could be done with this with the right tools/knowloedge

I looked at my the dev section there is no fix that I could find. So I posted the question in the proper samsung galaxy section. I dont believe there is a solution yet aside from sending it in. A few posts here and there touched base on it but I dont think anyone yet on here has eff'd there phones up to this point. Ive went through every samsung section to see if there were any similar post and nothing has really touched base, on it or ive triied it.

Yes I found four posts about the similar qhsusb dload, and also read about jtag, already gave my brother the website url, to contact about sending the thing in. I just havent been able to find a solution on here.
well ill have to find and reread the stuff i saw abt the htc's cuz if im not mistaken some were actually made unbrickable because of this. i was able to install drivers, and talk to the phone with a couple of things, including odin but it just hung as i expected it to. I think something could be done with this, dont seem like the typical hardbrick. let a couple more people brick this thing, if its possible someone will figure it out

I believe this is the post your talking about. Anyways I just can't believe the broski actually bricked his phone, I trully thought it was damn near impossible. amazing
It is never impossible to brick a device. This is why one should know what they are doing before they do it. I mean really, he doesn't even know what rom he flashed? Flashing a device is not for everyone nor should everyone do it. If you don't understand what your doing then don't do it.

Well, the best thing to do would be to go to the sprint section and look at mskip's sticky with his toolkit, and load the qualcomm drivers. it's an ugly situation, but that's your best lead.

Ya I did that about 4 hours ago, in my devices and printers, in now says QHSUSB_DLOAD is working properly. Yet I cant get it to connect to the toolkit, to odin, I cant even find the phone with cmd. it makes a noise everytime you plug it in to the comp, well the comp does and it searches for drivers and installs them, they all installed correctly the first time aside from the one above that was fixed. Thanks though for the help, I really appreciate it.
If no other solutions work, a JTAG repair WILL unbrick your device. MobileTech Videos (www.mobiletechvideos.com) offers JTAG repair for the SGS3. I've used them to purchase a download mode jig and they have fast turn around times, great customer service, and excellent service. You really can't go wrong using them. Hope it all works out and you can get your device unbricked.
Let us know how you hard bricked it so we can do that when we need to get our phone warranty replaced without customer service seeing the custom flashed counter!

Either this is your weak attempt at humour or you never read the entire thread, like I said in on the first page, He flashed a international rom. I dont need to recap the entire 2 pages, the fact that you posted that comment, like why would anyone want to brick their phone for warrenty if its working fine. just stupid. I appreciate your meaningless contribution to a site where some people try to learn a thing or 2. I would suggest you try taking the site more seriously. And if you cant, have some respect for the people that do. thanks again. take care

Used all in one tool on ATT version. Flashed TWRP. No OS to boot to.

I got way ahead of myself after receiving my HOX+ for only the difference of my HOX purchase and began to flash the worldwide development exploits to my phone.
I noticed in the TWRP thread, it said ATT users 'may' experience trouble, so I took the risk.
Noticed I couldnt mount system or Cache, did a factory reset before attempting to install SuperSU. Now Im stuck with no OS.
Am I stuck until we get more ATT exploits?
I see no stock ATT software so this leads me to believe I will not be able to see nothing more then the TWRP menu until USA gets on this thing. Correct?
I didnt do a backup.

Not a clever move. I don't know much about the AT&T device, but when I was helping Lloir test the first lot of custom recoveries, I accidently formatted my nand by trying to factory reset. It was easy to rescue for me as I had a RUU to flash. But AFAIK there is none for AT&T. If you have done what I did. I'm afraid your stuck with a brick until Lloir has finished the AT&T recovery and you can flash a custom rom.

You're stuck until we actually get a proper recovery. You will be doubly screwed if you flashed TWRP for the One XL.

I am sorry, but (a big BUT) if you had taken the time to read a little bit through the X+ forum for like 15 minutes, in particular through the recovery threads, you would have learned that the AT&T version is not yet supported.
I am sorry for the trouble that you experience, but it is always better to first understand completely before doing something, in particular with an expensive device like this one.
However, I don't think Lloir is far off of a working recovery.
Thanks man to pro

yeah lesson learn always read and don't assume even if you have rooted before :3
This is the first time i've jumped the gun like this. I just got so excited when they told me I could bring in my HOX and grab the X+ for only the difference. Out the store I was thinking "4 cores??? Im gonna hack this mother effer, PRONTO!!!"
Got home, saw the TWRP and All in One. I felt like it was a wrap! All in One, IIRC gave not one warning about worldwide vs. ATT, TWRP gave a warning about 'possible' issues. I assumed a misaligned touch screen or the sdcard message he posted or something minor.
It wasnt until I was already done, unlocked, and flashed when I realized I screwed up and started to investigate my mistake.
I am not blaming the devs AT ALL. It is my fault, being on the leecher end of the table, for not being thorough and researching before jumping into something crucial with such a valuable piece of equipment.
I hardly post on XDA, mostly because I have mastered XDA's, as well as Google's search button and end up finding my answer before resorting to wasting space, time, money, and energy on a crap post like this one. This also makes me a leecher, being as I never have anything more to offer. So I want to thank all of the devs for their amazing work throughout these years I've been on XDA and in front of a smartphone

This is why i was attempting to discredit the guy in the other thread. Watch how many of these bricked threads begin to show up; the last thing we will need is Q&A threads saying "Hey I did it on my AT&T phone, and it worked fine!"

Im still pretty much stuck. I have a new recovery but no working rom to flash to my phone. EHHH. I totally agree with creating a seperate section. We'll see what happens in the near future. Day 2 without a phone and Im starting to get withdrawals and trembles. My face is flush, im sweating, freezing, my legs are numb and the rest of my body aches. I need my phone. I need it.

That's what I did after I bricked my AT$T phone. Got a new one. Although this time I only unlocked the boot loader. i am a little scared to load a recovery after my last experience with this phone. I think I will wait a bit...
Same here. Bricked mine and swapped it out for a new unit.
I just used the all-in-one and it went smooth.

honestly the TWRP works just fine as long as you choose the AT&T one and flashing SU is all you need for now to bak the bloat
PM sent!

I honestly dont want to risk it, since my phone clearly says its been unlocked all over it! I dont know exactly how strict they are over ATT being as I just transferred from sprint. But at sprint they inspect your phone for about 3 hours before blaming it on you and voiding your warranty.
