New ATT Atrix stats
Android version 2.2.2
baseband N_1.77.15p
Build OLYFUR_U4_4.1.8.3
Can someone point me in the right direction of rooting/theming/updating adroid to newer versions with these stats, or tell me if i need/should update these first and where?
I have searched but I cant find every thing I need. Thank you ahead of time!

Look for the pudding thread in development. Unlock your bootloader and you can do whatever you want
sent from my Atrix via XDA premium
So I should unlock the bootloader if I want to flash new roms that have better performance and tethering apps built in, or am I supposed to root, or both?
I have had an iphone for 2 years and prior to that I was a flash whore with an HTC Fuze, now I feel like a tard... All I want is the best out there just like everyone else(whining)!!!
You need to unlock for custom roms. Root is included in the roms

If you look in the pudding thread there is a FULL sbf that will update you to 2.3.4, with unlockable BL, and root available for easy install. I would recommend the full sbf if you are still on 1.8.3.
+1 for posting in Q/A =)

I am on 2.3.4 that I did OTA a few days ago. I am following the steps in the pudding thread but when i try to use the cmd prompt to initiate the fastboot
program it keeps saying "the system cannot find the path specified". I extracted it to the temp folder in the C drive so I didnt have to type so much and no matter where I extract it is still says the same thing...

This is a great thread for new users. I suggest you read it thoroughly. If you have questions ask after you have read up on the process that you are asking about.

Well I did read that ,actually if you look in my signature I already have a backflop running 2.3.4 on cm7. I am looking for what people think is best for the atrix. and the process for the new 2.3.6 update that caused some upset.
*EDIT* I'm sorry I did realize this wasn't posted from my computer

if ur on at&t !!
the best way to unlock is to use the automatic bootloader unlocker !!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1182871&highlight=automatic
for how to do it, here's a youtube video describing the same !!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S6a0BWquqAc
also do some research before doing it !!
and be sure, never flash sbf files or use rsd lite after unlocking the bootloader !!!
i unlocked my bootloader using the automatic unlocker (but i was on 2.3.4[4.5.91]) !!!
Well i need to unlock that to load custom roms right?

It has been a while since I rooted/unlocked the bootloader of my phone, but if I remember correctly, I followed similar steps as these.
Currently, I am using CWMs Touch Recovery, can be downloaded from their site, then flashed to the recovery partition using fastboot, I'm sure you know how to do this if you rooted the phone via command prompt. Do a google search, otherwise and current recovery image will do find for what you need, but read the reviews before flashing, some fail hard.
Once that is all done, you pretty much are all set, CWM Touch allows for backups to be completed, flashes to occure and wipes to happen.
I would also suggest that instead of just sticking with just jokersax, I would also suggest to check out turls, also available from jokers site. I personaly find turls to be a little more stable, and I seem to have minimal issues with turls, but everytime I see an update is available, I still jump to that one just to see what is up, then I may or may not jump back down, only because I can
After using turls and jokers ICS images, I haven't seen any downsides compared to stock, CM7, or any variants of the like, I love me my ICS. As far as official updates go, I wouldn't be too concerned about that, unless if somewhere else documented, I don't think the ATRIX will be seeing any official updates, but if something does show up, there is a script available on this site to resotre back to stock, then updates should work just fine. This tool seems to do the trick, I've used it personaly myself, got me right back to the stock moto install.
Stock ics from moto is official for q3 its on there site ^.^. But i want is sooner. Im just worried the new 2.3.6 update might of changed something

You have to flash an SBF File to your phone Via RSDLite your phone will reboot a few times don't be scared
Then go to command prompt and type in command
fastboot oem unlock
Will give you Unique ID
Then type in
fastboot OEM unlock ############ unique ID
Then bam Unlocked bootloader
Make sure you use the correct SBF File for AT&T
And make sure you have A fastboot.exe file in your android sdk
To flash CWM flash it through the app first then flash it to your phone via Command Prompt
On command prompt type
fastboot flash recovery recovery press shift should auto correct make sure it is in the same folder as your Fastboot.exe
CM9 Bell Atrix using XDA App
thank you so much! how hard is it to reverse this? ( the boot loader unlock) say if i need to RMA it to AT&T or something...also what do you guys use as a recovery and or what do you recommend?
Once you unlock your bootloader - you cannot reverse it - its permanent... you can never re-lock it.
so no more OTA updates?
Not easily - it can be done.... Most NEW Roms are built off the OTA's and are better than the stock releases..... OTA's are not really a big deal. Biggest issue with unlocking your bootloader is that it instantly voids any/all warranties.
*sigh* i know but mine is up as far as i know and i am already two years with the phone....so im just waiting for quad cores...
i was able to return my unlocked Atrix to AT&T by flashing the stock 2.3.4 blah.blah.91 sbf. This does not re-lock it but gets rid of the Unlocked msg at boot screen
thank you ! that's what i needed to know!
so can i install a new recovery before i unlock the boot loader? which would you recommend? as i need to do a nandroid >.< , i did all this on my moto backflip...a while ago..and well....it didnt need an unlock..

Wrong Version?
I am sure you guys are trying to help out, but most are missing an important fact in his request. I noticed this because I am looking for the same answer for the same version as the OP. 2.3.6
The solutions posted so far all refer to 2.3.4 and do not work with 2.3.6. The one updated thread with a link to a site that claims to work on 2.3.6, does not list the Atrix MB860 with 2.3.6, it does list it with 2.3.4.
This does not work, it gets an dialog box error "failed to chmod file: /data/local/tmp", then another that says "failed to get shell root"
The one thread that users claim it does work with 4.5.141.MB880.ATT.en.US, but that's not an option in the script. And they don't give a clue as to what steps they followed.
EDIT: Took a leap of faith, man that turned my stomach ( this is my wife's phone, I don't want to brick it ). I can confirm that the latest link past page 85 of http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1182871&highlight=automatic is valid as of 03/01/2012 and it is what I used. Followed the OP instructions and then then followed the prompts in the script. It did unlock, then I rooted and flashed CWM, option two.
Its the same as the 2.3.4 way. I figured it out an now have ics jokers rom

Ok I see that there are a couple of similar threads to this and I apologize in advance but I'm not sure exactly how to correctly interpret some of the answers on those threads...so I'm gonna start my own and see who can help lol. Once again I'm sorry if this new thread is considered obsolete by some or all.
I have a Motorola droid razr. Not the maxx just the standard razr. When I got my phone I started looking into rooting it after seeing one of my friends with a rooted thunderbolt. I successfully rooted my razr after doing a lot of research. I installed Titanium (not pro) and undelete. I'm fairly certain that I made a backup of everything on my phone shortly after installing Titanium Backup. Well through the course of tinkering around with my phone a bit I deleted certain files here and there that I considered useless or annoying to me that they were on my phone in the first place. Well when the upgrade to jellybean came out I tried to do a software update. It finishes, reboots my phone, then says the update was unsuccessful.
After some research I have realized that I probably deleted something that was important (lol yeah I'm an idiot) and so it wont let me update the software because of that. I realize that I could use titanium to restore those files but I have NO idea what files I deleted that were important. And I'm not all that comfortable with TB to just mess with it freely. TB has been something that I have used very little because I know I could probably cause some serious damage to my phone with it haha. I haven't done a factory reset because I know already that it wouldn't bring those files back.
If anyone can help me I would really appreciate it. I'm not a very technical person so I probably shouldn't have rooted in the first place but I tried my hardest to do the research first. Thanks in advance for the help everyone

im not sure about this particular phone but search for the SBF file for your phone model and how to use RSDLite. this is how to restore Motorola phones.

It's never a good idea to do an OTA update over a rooted phone.
You should just download a rooted stock ROM from the dev forum (a 4.1 ROM) and flash it via your recovery (flash the zip file) or another custom ROM, they have some good ones!
OR I would just flash stock THEN do the OTA update, because whatever rooting method you used (I don't have that phone so I'm not sure) probably replaced your kernel with an insecure one or your system.img so you're failing the OTA update.

What exactly is RSD and when I flash the razr stock ROM will it erase anything I already have save on my phone? Sorry I'm not the most intelligent when it comes to stuff like this haha

Is this a good source and video that might explain this to me a little better? I havent posted 10 times so i cant use the link but its a video on youtube called How to use fastboot files to return Droid Razr back to Android 2.3.5! It's the first vid that comes up. has about 9,300 views and was posted 7 months ago. I think my RAZR was on ice cream sandwich (not gingerbread) but it should be the same i guess? Thanks in advance everyone
The reason I suggest just flashing a custom ROM thru your recovery is once you RSD stock then do the OTA you're just going to want to root again and maybe flash a better custom ROM.
Just flash a CM10 ROM from the dev forum and see how you like it, it's jellybean with tons more options that the stock ROM.

The main issue i'm having is that after i rooted my phone flashing custom roms was pretty much the only aspect i didnt get into, so i'm not comfortable in the least with doing it. So just flashing a new rom might be a little strange for me. If i flash the stock rom will i lose everything i have? Like all my apps and pictures and info? And will it unroot my phone?? And if that video i posted above will work should i just try it that way?
I'm sorry to keep posting but I'm just trying to get some specific answers and I feel like if my thread falls too far down it will be forgotten lol. But that video title that I posted...does anyone know if that could be a viable solution? And if it isn't could someone explain. To me how to flash the stock rom so i can upgrade to ics. I don't think the razr has jellybean yet if I'm not mistaken
It sounds like you might be missing some of the stock apps. I had a similar problem while following the same upgrade path as you. I have a Verizon XT912 (standard RAZR) I'm lookin for a link to send you that helped with the issue...but basically there are several apps that would seem non-essential like Slacker radio or NFL Mobile that seem to have caused people trouble. If your update is failing at 30% or somewhere in the middle, this might be the problem. If this sounds like it could be it, Ill try and find the post that helped me find what I was missing.
watch your phone during the update, make sure its not actually cancelling and booting normally because of this error.
Do you know what version you were on before things happened? GB or ICS? You always use this utility just to start over and get back to stock. You could do like people are saying and get the files but this is easier. There is a version for either GB or ICS. Just need to get into AP Fast Boot mode and follow the directions. Also assume this is the Cdma phone? Here is something similar.
I would just start all over and flash.Make sure if you can that your phone is charged before starting.

I'm on gingerbread 2.3.6. So i can just go to the bootloader menu and use AP fast boot to do what? I'm a little confused lol sorry
So does anyone have any explanation? The only reason i'm so desperate is because i'm planning on potentially selling my razr for the note 2 and i cant do that if its unable to perform this update/missing apps/etc.. lol. please help
So I've been having issues lately with my update some time ago to official Rogers ICS 4.0.4. The issue is my root access. I had root access on 2.3.6 and everything functioned perfectly. However when I updated to ICS I sort of lost root. Why I say sort of, is because root files like su are still present but not functioning correctly. When I try to gain root access SuperSU tells me my su file is out of date. Also when I try to modify su in any way it gives me access denied. pedrotorresfilho being the good fellow that he is has been helping point me in the right direction as to what is happening. I just figured instead of bombarding his private messages with multi-questions I would post my troubles here in the hopes of gaining some more insight into the issue.
I now know that apparently my su file is damaged (was kind of obvious). Pedro has directed me to the path of factory reset/flashing the TIM.BR rom via RSD Lite. Keep in mind that I am still very much a n00b with linux/android. I AM learning, but slowly. I've been reading post after post here on xda and have actually learned quite a bit so far, yay. I now know what RSD Lite is and what it is used for. Haven't dared try it yet though. ANYHOW. I am wondering if when I do flash this LATAM rom and totally wipe my phone, can I somehow install a stock rogers ROM overtop? I do realize that there are no fastboot files for Rogers and that the BR version will suspositly flash on rogers razrs just fine. I'm just a little skeptical as to the aftermath. I don't want to lose any functionality. I've heard of people having txt message issues or data connection problems etc. Also I suppose I would lose the use of apps like Rogers My Account. This I can probably look past, it's the major issues I need to dodge.
I basically just want to gain my root access again and update to Rogers JB and keep root via OTA Rootkeeper. I don't know if that is even possible with my current broken su status. I don't know if I should just maybe say goodbye to rogers stock and go the Cyanogen mod route?
ANY opinions/tips for this whole scenario would be MUCH APPRECIATED! Thanks!
tbh, i didnt read it all, its too long lol.... sorry.
but here's what i know (assuming u have an XT910)
1. u can fastboot rogers ICS using RSD lite. super easy.
2. u can fastboot LATAM ICS using RSD lite. also super easy.
3. u can also fastboot rogers JB using RSD lite 6.0. easy and best - but remember so far there's no root and u CANT go back to ICS.

Ya I tend to ramble on sometimes, no apology needed. In fact I should thank you! This is defiantly a step in the right direction and hopefully the solution I need. As I said before being the n00b that I am to this stuff I already screwed up my phone once. I believe I was trying to use RSD Lite and flash one of those ROM files. Perhaps I used the wrong one, I don't know. All I know is it failed and I was stuck in fastboot failure. I did fix this with an empty radio img, but I don't want to have the same issues again.
Is there anything I need to do before I do this? Also are there any good n00b oriented tutorials related to using RSD Lite to 'fastboot'? THANKS AGAIN!
EDIT: Once again Pedro has come through with more info for me. I was directed to this tutorial: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1974568 which seems pretty straightforward. I just need to know if I need to do anything other than factory reset that was suggested by Pedro before I proceed. Also by AP Fastboot mode they mean powering off then holding volume - and power? Is that fastboot mode?
SUCCESS! I used the recovery to wipe my data/factory reset. Then used latest RSD Lite to flash the Rogers ICS fastboot file and it went without a hitch. People on this forum are awesome. Special thanks to R3dbeaver and pedrotorresfilho for the awesome info!
Now I'm going to try and keep my root when I update to JB, wish me luck

Well I went ahead and protected root using OTA Rootkeeper then install JB official update and successfully restored root. Awesome, but then I went and did something stupid and installed a program called Chainfire 3D and ran it, accepted the warning message totally by accident and completely screwed my phone again. I then had to fastboot (AGAIN) the ROM for JB, so I now have an unrooted RAZR running JB. Oh well, that'll learn me!

FIXED. go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2257137
Please no one blast me for asking this question. I have spent HOURS searching for definitive answers, and I can't find what I need to know. I want to be very sure before I make any changes - I do not want to guess. I haven't bricked a phone yet, and don't want to start now. And I very much do not want to lose root.
I have a Droid Razr Maxx HD from VZW. It's currently running Android version 4.1.2 (System version 9.18.94.XT926.Verizon.en.US). It is rooted, but the bootloader is not unlocked, and I prefer not to unlock it. I *MUST* have root access. The phone is running painfully slow and I've already cleared the cache partition, but it's not enough. I want to do a hard reset after upgrading the firmware, then re-root.
My understanding, after about 6 hours of research, is that TowelRoot can root any version of Android released before June 3, 2014. I think that means 4.4.2. I found a place to download the stock version of 4.4.2 for XT926 (at least it's called that - it's not on the VZW site), but I can't verify the release date. I think it was before June 3 because I found discussions of 4.4.2 on the VZW site from last May.
1) Can someone verify that 4.4.2 is rootable with TowelRoot (which I've already downloaded).
2) Is there a place on the VZW site to download previous firmware versions so I can be certain I've got stock? Google publishes theirs (I also have a Nexus 10), but I don't see a page like this on the VZW site.
Next is how to flash... I have flashed my phone before using no additional software, but I can't recall the exact procedure and I don't want to screw it up. As I recall, I just had to put the zip file in the root of an external SD Card, then run native fastboot. But everything I've found googling says I have to edit an xml file, and run a Windows program called RSD Lite. Why?? I've found that the more 3rd party software in the mix, the greater the chance for disaster. Why can't I just use the native facility? I can't find the instructions I used previously.
I truly have tried to find the answers to these questions on my own, and I cannot. Could one of the very knowledgable people on this forum give me some definitive answers? I would be very grateful.
I figured out how to select a firmware update on my SD card via Recovery mode. I selected the zip file, and I see the message "Install /sdcard ...", but it doesn't look like anything is happening.
Not one response? No help from anyone?
This is a pretty useless forum. I would like to delete my original message since not one sole here can deign to even respond, but I can't do it.
Thanks for nothing.

I tried very hard to find the right place to post my question. I couldn't find a forum for my exact model, and this seemed the closest. I thought I saw other posts about the Razr Maxx HD here. Do you have a link for the correct forum? I also spent a lot of time looking for the answer on my own before posting so no one could say I hadn't tried. But though I tried to be a good forum citizen, no one helped.
In any case, it doesn't matter. I took a chance, and luckily I guessed right. I'm now running KitKat and I am rooted. My phone had gotten very slow, so I also emptied the cache partition, then did a hard reset of my phone. I'm now reinstalling apps (not all of them).
I would move your attention to this area: http://forum.xda-developers.com/droid-razr-hd. Don't criticize forum members and call the site useless. Sometimes you have to wait for help, especially when it's free.

I was hoping you would get an answer as well, since I am in the exact same boat with my Razr Maxx HD. It's on 4.1.2, system version 9.18.94, it's rooted and bootloader is still locked. I have deleted some stock Verizon apps like Slacker and a few others. At the time I wasn't aware there was ramifications for doing so. I would like to try KK, but have the option to go back to JB if I like, or even run a custom Rom. I found this guide by bweN diorD to do just that, trouble is I am not that saavy and am a little in the dark when it comes to this stuff. I need step by step instructions explaining everything along the way. I have never flashed anything. All I've ever done is jailbroken IOS devices and rooted droids. So if you have a step by step for me I'm all ears. I don't even need to be rooted at the moment on KK.
Yeah never mind I got it. Booted into fastboot, connected to laptop and ran WindowsutilityNoDataWipe.bat from bweN diorD's 1.41 file.
