WTF is this? Oh, its Airpush. And I hate it. - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

So I am using my phone to listen to spotify and i unlock it after a time to change the song and i have a new notification at the top of my screen. It is a green plus, when i open up my notification slide there is this advertisement for texting the fun way.
I wasn't going to open it for fear of virus but im not rooted so i just did it and it opens up this app for a live wallpaper from the market called "Shark Live Wallpaper" then immediately ovens uo the dialog for me to choose whether to open it in the market or on the web.
Needless to say that wallpaper is gone. But can they really do that? Ping you with advertisements? I've had the wallpaper for about two days and this was the first notification (or i should just say advertisement) they sent me.
I've just never seen this before. Are their more apps that do this?

I forgot to add the image. Sorry it has to be small or the pda app says wrong file extension.

One of your apps gave you AirPush. Sorry man, it is like an STD.

there 2 new bots similar to AirPush that is not detectable by Antivirus App nor Anti AirPush Apps
either way the solution is simple, to fix it, just uninstall the App or Game that infected you, and look for additional pay loads (Ad bots) that got installed along with it

Airpush you say? Where can i find out more about this Airpush. And do you guys actually use antiviruses on your phones? I guess i probably should but it seems kinda stupid.

First time I saw them I was pissed. If this is your first time seeing it then it is most likely a game that was installed in the past 24-48 hours. Figure out which once then leave review the app with 1star and say that it spams your phone with this BS. I dont mind ads at all, infact I fully embrace them as they are why we get great games for free, but I draw a distinct line in the sand when it comes to pushing spam garbage to my phone any time you want in my notification bar. This has great potential to be malicious.

i completely agree as well

One thing I like about cyanogenmod ( you didn't say if you were running a custom ROM or not) is that it allows you to revoke permissions for apps like these while enabling you to run them. However, if you're not running it on your device, I recommend an app from the market called Ad Detector.

I still go hog wild on apps, I just am careful about how many I install. You typically only see these on Games, although I think I had one non game app that did it to me. I will only install one or two new apps a day with the exception of apps I read about from fellow xda nerds as they tend to be of a more consistantly higher caliber then what I stumble upon in the app store. I think at last count I had well over 100 apps installed and I've only had THIS handset for a week now (had to exchange). Air Push is a major PITA and if you try alot of games you certainly want an app to CYA.

Honestly, anything with Airpush is usually pretty well outed in the comments. Read 'em before installing a talking cat or fart app.

Lol, what i'm getting from this is that it is an application that if you send a text message to that phone it will bring up the phones settings?
What is the use of that?
It's a banned application via Google Market. Here's a snippet from an article in regards about it. To learn more, Google "SMS Replicator"
Google has removed a controversial Android Market application that enables users to secretly spy on text messages sent via someone else's smartphone. Google initially approved DLP Mobile's Secret SMS Replicator for download via the Android storefront, but removed the application about 18 hours later--the app automatically creates blind carbon copies of incoming text messages and forwards them to a selected number, effectively enabling jealous lovers, uptight parents and diabolical colleagues to secretly download the software to their unwitting victim's smartphone and then keep tabs on their personal communications.

If it was marketed as 'free' on the market then I don't think it'd be classified as warez but after googling. It looks like its available here: http://www.mobihand.com/product.asp?id=122189&n=Secret-SMS-Replicator -- kind of fishy to be wanting to get this app and install it on someone's phone. Wouldn't see why anybody would want this unless they were paranoid. But yeah, I guess it would be considered as warez since its being sold as of right now.

Any thoughts on an app called app planet? I've heard conflicting stories just trying to get some clarification. Thanks.
App planet is highly questionable on a moral level. It is just like the market app BUT only features hacked paid apps. If you are into "stolen" apps you will enjoy app planet but be wary as some apps may contain harmful code. What you see is not always what you get. Virus and data mining are always a risk.
I hope this answers your question. Proceed with caution!

Nevermind....
That is helpful... This is my first Android, just trying to learn as much as I can. And... Not destroying anything in the process.
My feelings... if someone can't support a developer and pay pocket change for their app that they are going to use, it's pathetic. If people feel $1-$5 is too much, maybe they shouldn't be spending money each month on a cell phone bill...
You're absolutely right... This was a conversation I had with someone last night who wanted to show off his rooted d2. I told him I was using a rooted TB and he tried to one up with this app. I felt it was a little odd to have all apps available for free and he doesn't read this site. Now I can relay the message.
The Amazon app store on the other hand offers a free app every day
i totally understand that stealing apps from applanet is wrong but i think there are still several good uses. i have used it a couple times to download apps that were no longer available in the market like rom gripper and also blocked apps like wireless tether. i also have used it to try out a paid app for more than 15 mins allowed by the official market. if i liked it, i went on the regular market and bought it! it DOESNT HAVE to be used for piracy only....

This was to help developers, I will agree, 15 minutes is a bit short. But it is needed because of the amount of people that would buy a paid app, use it for that day, then "return" it. That and i'm sure people were downloading the paid app, ripping the apk, then "returning" the app, but still having the full paid version.

The funny thing is that 15 minutes is enough time to rip the apk but not enough time to even check out an app to see if I like it or not. I support the devs but this is going to hurt devs I think. I no longer try any paid app without finding it on the web instead of the market.
No discussion of Warez.

Best security app for 2011

So what is everyone's favorite security app of 2011- and why? I know some people think security apps are not necessary. If you feel security apps are not necessary, let us know why. Any security apps that don't work on the 3D? Don't keep that info to yourself! In light of the recent news reports about phone hacking, news about malware in the android market, and criminal activity concerning phones in general, I thought it was a timely subject to discuss. Please don't let the thread devolve into a flamefest! We are better than that!
Edit: I know the poll is kinda big but I made it big on purpose. I had no idea there were this many different security apps out there until I did the research for this poll and I figured I couldn't be the only one so I put em up here so others could find out about them too. If I missed your favorite app, I'm sorry! Just give a shout out for it in the comments!

It's nice to know you can access methods to: remote lock, track, alarm & wipe your phone when its not in your possession anymore.
That whole virus & malware mess (if we can even call it that) is easily avoided with the common sense app, I agree.
As for malware you don't really have to worry about anything atm. HTC has done a god job of patching all of the security holes they all use.
I think htc also may have something built into the phones to track then if they are lost but I doing know as I haven't set it up myself yet.

look out is good tho only reason you would need a anti virus is if u are going crazy with the random apps on the market which have spy ware in them. Linux is pretty much virus free the only way you could get something is if you give it permissions to do so. I never need a anti virus.
Anyone familiar with "Phone Locator Pro" (https://market.android.com/details?id=com.rvo.plpro)? It looks pretty nice, too bad they don't have a trial. :/
I use AegisLab Antivirus Free, the option Appscan is outdated.
Scan is pretty fast and lightweight, and according to author, they will support SD card scan soon.
I got Seekdroid on the amazon app store when it was the free app of the day and it seems to work really well. Plus, the website interface is very good/easy.
I believe they also just released a free "lite" version of the app if any want to check it out.
I was using lookout, but am trying myphone without it to see if it saves any battery..but may end up putting it back on, even if it doesn't work as some say, having that sense of mind that you're phone is "protected" is kinda relieving

Looking for app to track my wife?

I'm looking for an app I can install on my wife's phone that is hidden so that I can see where she is or has been via cell towers or gps. Doesn't need to be real time but I need to know if she has been where I think she has been. She is pretty dumb when it comes to her phone but has never had gps enabled and would probably notice the enabled icon. I'm pretty confident she is cheating on me and just need to know for sure before I confront her. Is there such an app?
I don't need a lot of features. Basically location history. Some place called spectorsoft has something but it is $70. ANy freebies out there?
Thanks!!
Just go to Google maps and sign her up on Latitude. Latitude will tell you where she was and is. Then after that, install Dexrex on her phone and you can see any, and all, texts she sends and receives. The best part is that it's all free. Then you can use Overview (which used to be free) to do similar things. Also, if you want to catch her on your PC, just install a keylogger.
Does she have Android smartphone? If she have, you can find such apps on Market. I needed that type of app before but unfortunately, we haven't got android on all device. Google Latitude is good too.

I don't condone your method.... But, I know where you are coming from.
Tasker is an amazing app. Not any type of tracking system specifically. But you can create a set of profiles and tasks where you could do something like send a txt to her. Something like "I love you." Or "how are you" or something inconspicuous. You can then program it to, upon recieving said message, turn on GPS for 1min, get a lock on her location and txt you back her location and then shut off GPS. You can also make it so if she looks back into her chat log. It won't show that her phone automatically sent that txt with her where a bouts.
I have something similar in case my phone is ever lost/stolen. Except my setup will also lock the phone, flash the leds, the camera flash, and make a loud noise.
Or you could just sit her down and talk about it....she will appreciate you more, because if she finds the apps you install.....theirs nothing worse than denying it was you who installed them (lying to her) when you have no proof she is lying to you. Your situation is nothing that can't be sorted out by talking about it. Have you got concrete evidence she's playing away? I have teenagers, so I definitely know where your coming from. My solution is an annual subscription (I think $12 per year, no more than $19.99) is "WaveSecure" by McAfee. Which I do admit if I EVER lost my phone, it is a blessing to have! I can go to a certain locked website by McAfee and not only be able to see where my phone is (without the user knowing) but I can lock it and send a alarm with a custom message. I can even pull pics and content from it. And you can't get into it or uninstall it once its set up on phone without a 6 digit password. Its mainly used if you have you phone stolen. It even notifies me if the SIM card is removed!
Latitude also works, but you have to configure her phone, and (like my teenagers) will eventually know how to turn it off.

Is it worth to use admobs in your app?

Hello,
I am noob and I am thinking to publish a really cool app in android market and I am thinking, is it worth to install ads (like admob I guess) in your app to earn money? Let's say I have 10k users who approximately open my app 2 times a day (20k impressions daily), how much could I earn from admob? Is there something better than admob? Or it's just not worth it (plus you annoy people with having ads in your app)? Thank you.
What exactly your app about? After reading some articles about admob success stories (and counterparts) it seems to me that it worth using mostly in game applications.
If your app is accessed for periods of time significantly like games or social media, then yes, ads.
If it is usually something that people run once or twice like settings or themes types, then you are better off providing a pro paid version or just one paid version.
Oh and people hate air push. Don't ever do that

As I said, I am a noob  What do you mean by "air push"?
Air push means when an app causes ads in the notification bar/center

And maybe you could tell me how much (just approximately), you can earn from 20k impressions a day?
I think that also dividig application into lite and pro version can be more effective than annoying ads.
Any more comments maybe?
i just googled a little and it seems the money doesn't come from the number of ads that people look at, but from the number of ads that are clicked (CTR, click-through-rate). i for once am quite skeptical about making any decent amount of money from ads in android apps. why? i have never clicked on an ad. shame on me.
I use inner-active.com , I don't know which one is better, because I haven't use AdMob. We published our app before 2days and there's only 1 click
If anyone else has something to say, I would really appreciate that.
My opinion on the matter is that there is probably not a lot of revenue to be had from ads. As mentioned above, you only get paid when the add is clicked. I for one have clicked an ad once, and that was by accident because the screen on my phone is small. Most people I think will not click the ads in apps, making it just annoying for your users. Personally, I would rather pay £0.99 or whatever and get an app with no ads than get a free app with ads.
Contrary to that, my wifi hack has got a pretty good return from AdMob in month 1
My cost/install was way too high on a free game when I tried it out. I'd say ads is not the best way to go when promoting a new game as you also have to consider quality of user which you'll get more of through reviews or social media.
