2.17 Source - HTC EVO 3D

Does any one else agree it's about time to start harassing HTC to to release it... Three month is about though, and ROM development is about at a stand still.
Sent from my PG86100 using xda premium

by the time we get it ICS will probably be out and then we'll want the source for that?

HTC released source today.
With source released, a downgrade found for hboot 1.5, development is far from a standstill.

Hi, interesting to see what you have to say about it. I was wondering where the speed of the 2.17.x.x rom came from (nenamark-2/quadrant ect). Is it something that can be ported to the GSM GB based roms ?

Development slowed down because everyone wants ICS but there isn't much that can be done without an official release. One we get that, we will shortly see camera and working data and such on AOSP and Sense 4.0 ROMs and then it will get real again. For now, not many things can still be done with GB.

No leak for us yet; we've seen leaks for the Rezound and I believe the Sensation, as well as the One X and the One S. And Vivid users have been able to download the ICS OTA for a couple of days now.
It's one of those, "Everybody got some, but we didn't get any" situations. At least for now.

Bootable on Evo 3D (bootable, but half the stuff won't work) - A few weeks after dump
Stable Bootable (still no 4G, bluetooth, 3D, etc.) - A few weeks-two months after dump
Cyanogenmod 9 (pre-alpha) - A few weeks after stable bootable

why you say that??? given CM7 status unless toast has a magic trick up his sleeve id say your way off there.
It took them a full month to get 2.2(CM6) on the Evo4G from when the source dropped. least it wasn't released to public till then in nightly build form at that from what i remember.
It takes a while to compile a full build here, they are building from scratch for most part here.
and 2.3 code was released in Dec '10 and the CM7 STABLE version wasn't released till april '11 i think according to their site. yes there were many nightly builds before that but i dont remember nor can i tell by cyanogenmod's site since nightlys are only shown for cm7 now.
but like i said in the other thread toast is not one to doubt on anything as the guy does magical things all the time so anything is possible.

2-3 months for a stable/complete build after the dump.
It's funny that with all of the new enhancements and UI tweaks that Google has put into ICS, undoubtedly HTC will still push Sense on top of it all to make any update to 4.0 unseen in every way (and still take months to release their "interpretation" of it).
5-6 weeks for an alpha build of CM to hit our phones.
3-doesitreallyevenmatter months for the Sense rendition to hit.
I'm guessing we will see a.other revision of sense to compliment ics... Ateast that's what I would do if u was them,,, just give us the widgets and the apps, Rosie can eat a d*$%

Meh, don't care what version of Sense it uses. I'll just be excited that the Kernel source for it will have to be released, which SHOULD fast-track AOSP development, also, it will be based on Linux 3.x, and could (most likely will) update the radio.

The sensation came out a couple of months before the Amaze, so it makes a little sense that it would get it first.
I'm perfectly fine with waiting a couple of months, I'd rather have a official update that's more glitch free than a early one that hasn't been properly tested.

You and me both
Ill say it again.
Show me a fully functional AOSP ics rom.
Driver issues, Rosie (HTC crap) issues.
As with many devices you're only going to get a half ass version of Google's latest OS.
Only reason we have any ICS based Roms on Amaze is because HTC actually did all the work.
Sorry I respect Hasoon, Whatever that young kid that got chased off, and others amazing work on the handcuffed Amaze. Its just that frankly these threads are full guys begging for ETAs and the devs saying hold your horses! Almost there! When the reality is OEMs have sucked the open out of AOSP. There's very little one can do without climbing massive hurdles anymore. Just face it.
If I'm off base or if there's some spectacular change in reasoning as to why JB will be any different ..please correct me as I'd love to be wrong.

The 90 day GPL thing is something constructed by HTC so they don't have to release source, and we tolerate it for some reason. Technically source is supposed to drop the minute the OTA goes out according to GPL v2(which the Linux kernel is under).
Give it a read, there is nothing about a 90 day wait:

You are legally able to make a kernel before then, but you have to be able to do it without the HTC source. HTC can't do anything to you for building a kernel that works on the Thunderbolt. The 90 days is because most devs can't make a kernel without the source, but a kernel could be built and openly distributed before the source drops(or the OTA) with no repercussions.
Besides, I really doubt they would attempt to punish a developer that actually makes their phone worth owning. I hate sense with a passion, but ICS is ICS, and until source drops I'll be content with it(nothing against Jester, but I'm not a fan of all the changed in JMOD)
