[Q] USB Host mode - HTC EVO 3D

Hello,
I understood Chadman's kernel has host usb mode support and even got NTFS support builtin.
This is really handy, that way we overcome the 4GB limit off fat32 and use an external USB stick or usb harddrive that does not need an external powersource.
Now I have searched for an Micro usb male cable to an normall 2.0 female.
http://www.ebay.nl/itm/USB-2-0-A-to...63264705?pt=AU_Components&hash=item256e3cbec1
http://www.ebay.nl/itm/USB-2-0-A-Fe...377?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3370697089
http://www.ebay.nl/itm/Micro-USB-B-...?pt=US_Tablet_Accessories&hash=item1c2473af26
And its just about € 1 and then I could connect external harddrives. But is this all I need? I had such cable before with an tablet I bought in China, but I sold that tablet.

If you have hw002 3D I don't think its working. But if you have hw001 then it will work as long as the ROM supports USB host. At this time only the Olympus series ROM have that support.

I have an GSM Evo 3D. How I know if I got an hw002 or hw001? As far I knew usb host mode is in anthrax kernel.

all my gsm kernels support it
you need a rom that supports it
and i think all/most gsm are hw001
the ONLY rom to supoport it on the 3d platform was the titan hd / olympus roms - but that developer quit developing due to xda drama

Oh so even though its in your kernel ( MikRunny is using your kernel in his rom ) its still needs to be implemented by the rom developer?

Yes, but as all we can see usb host is very difficult to implement or no one is interested in such thing because there isn't a ROM that supports it.

Ah I see, well for CDMA there is a rom that supports it. But for GSM not. Can we not implement it by ourself?

Hey chad what needs to be added on the rom side for usb host support? There were a couple devs interested in adding it.

[Q] USB Host Mode?

Hey,
I purchased a USB OTG cable for my Archos G9 I'm getting for Christmas (two days!)
I tried a mouse, 4 flash drives and a keyboard, knowing that the Ace most likely doesn't include Host mode.. It didn't work at all, So I was wondering if any kernels support it or roms?
I know it can be hacked through like kernel modules, Just wondering how much work it would be to create modules and drivers for it? I'm not that experienced with creating kernel modules and what not, I've created and ported roms and fixed kernels before for the GT540 and to be honest, I'm really not that good at it haha.
Does anyone know anything we could do to make it work?
Thanks in advance,
Jamie.
-Edit:
Just saw this for the Blade, Based on the 600mhz 7227, http://sven.killig.de/android/Blade/usb_host/
Maybe this could be edited for our Ace?
I think that we can have USB Host, but i don't know why nobody tried to give us that feature... maybe cpu arch?
However, i want it too

It would be pretty cool Probably drain the battery alot though haha.
Its supported by the CPU as Qualcomm have said before, so its up to Samsung or a pretty cool and nice dev All the drivers and Kernel Modules are on the page I linked to so it'd be a case of making it all relative to the Ace and its kernel
Swyped from my GT-S5830 using XDA App
Hope I'm not bringing up too old a thread, but I searched in correct forum and this is what came up.
Any news of anyone building the correct Kernel for the Ace II in order to support USB Host ?
II have a Samsung engineer getting back to me about if Ace II Android 4.1.2 can mount external USB devices, but unless Samsung supports this II'll have to replace Android with something that can.
Needing this for photo transfer from camera SD card. I could use a mini SD card but just paid out for a highest speed SDHC card. Anyway those llittle SD mini SD cards are too easy to lose on mountaintops and that kind of thing
USB host wiht libusb
I also am still looking for usb host mode support.
Does anyone have any information?

[Q] A/V output.

Hello everybody,
I know that the scene is working really hard making and porting ROMS for the NT, now that CM7 (ALPHA) is out... I'm curious if is a CHANCE or light in the future to use a micro USB/HDMI output to be able to connect the tablet to a HD TV using MHL.
PS: Is the CM7 KERNEL capable of mounting or recognize keyboards, gamepads etc etc with micro USB port.

I'm pretty sure that video output would require some hardware support, soas far as I know that won't be possible.
I don't know about using the USB for external devices, but if they ever figure out the "magic number" it should be possible via Bluetooth.

MHL is pretty cool .But AFAIK Nook does not have a HDMI out function. B&N would've advertised the **** out of this feature , coz it would have been a great advertising feature .IIRC most 7" tabs lack video output .
USB OTG has not been described as a feature and seems very unlikely .
If the bluetooth module (present but disabled) is unlocked and drivers installed , then BT keyboards, gamepads possible in the distant future .
Hav fun

It is possible to pipe the display signal with software plugin and rebuild in PC via normal USB connector. It works in PSP.
Can someone send me the internal zip for cm7 please

How to add USB OTG Host capabilities to a kernel?

Right now, I'm using an HTC EVO 4G LTE, running ICS. Now the source code is out, however, no one has yet to add USB host capabilities to their kernel, so I figure I might as well do it myself. I read on kernel development, and I have a surface level understanding, but I'm just interested in adding the USB host capabilities. So how would I go about doing that? Thanks.
IIRC ICS should have OTG that works for keyboard and mouse. Of course the microUSB port on your phone needs to have the hardware to support OTG and also may or may not supply power.
Yeah, the hardware on the EVO supports it, it's just that HTC never enables it in their kernel.

[Q] USB OTG on Desire X

Hi,
does anybody know, whether USB OTG is supported by Desire X? I assume it is not supported by the stock system, but can I expect the support to be added by some custom system?
Regards,
Stepan
I don't want to make myself an idiot, but, what's USB OTG?

It stands for USB on the go. It is the ability of the phone to act as USB host. So that you can connect a USB flash drive, keyboard, or mouse... to the phone.
There is an app in Google Play that allows to check your phone's capability of USB OTG or USB Host Mode, but I couIdn't test it with my Desire X, because I don't have any USB peripherals with a micro-usb connector. The app only says there are "classes" found (don't ask me what that means) that seem to support it. I couldn't see anything in the manual about it either.
The One X doesn't even have USB OTG with the kernel it uses now, but they might enable it in a future kernel update (read that somewhere).
Your best bet is to contact HTC support and ask them straight out.
I tested the app.
The Kernel is not supporting USB Hosting. (It`s only a Software issue, i think)
Hopefully the update will bring this feature.
S4 Play on MSM8225 doesn't support OTG. Just go on Qualcomm site and you can see it.
A bit late....
Hahaha I am a bit late on this one, but all aspects of USB OTG are functional on the Desire X w/ stock and some custom roms. This includes storage, keyboard/mouse, gamepads and much much more. Works flawlessly, and better than the Nexus 7 2013 on Stock can manage (no usb storage support!) One of the reasons I switched to CM 11 on my Nexus.

The thing is, USB OTG works only from Android version 4.1 and newer. 4.0 has no OTG support.

USB OTB with Charging

Anyone known of/if there will be a kernel or ROM that will enable USB OTG and charging? I have that set up for my Nexus 7 and would really like it running on my HOX+ I'm running the NAM version.

I am noticing at least nominal USB OTG support on my AT&T HOX+ with stock kernel. Just tested a wireless mouse and flash drive and both work just fine. As for "charging", I'm unsure of what that entails, but unless one of the kernels in the Development forums mentions it, you can expect that it's not currently on anyone's todo list.
