Since Google unveiled Ice Cream Sandwich earlier this week, HTC has been looking closely at the new OS's features and functionality to determine our upgrade plans. We're a recognized industry leader in providing fast and consistent upgrades to our Android devices (see what Engadget had to say about our upgrades: http://engt.co/qMb9nQ), and Ice Cream Sandwich will be no different.
Upgrades require a careful balance of hardware and software to ensure the best possible performance and usability, so please stay tuned as we assess our product portfolio. Our goal is to upgrade as many HTC devices as possible and we'll be sharing details on specific devices and timing in the coming weeks!
Thanks!

Quick in comparison to who, Google itself?
We'll see.. I'm not putting any faith in it, I'll jump on CM9 or whatever. I'm kind of tired of sense and all the background HTC nonsense that runs

Technically all the Android powered devices capable of running of Android Gingerbread will be able to run Android 4.0 ICS but Practically all devices may not give an overall good user experience . So all the manufactures are reviewing ICS on their devices to check the user experience and will release the latest OS according to the results.
HTC's list of devices that will surely get ICS :
* HTC Sensation (XL,XE,Original)
* HTC EVO 3D
* HTC Incredible S
* HTC Desire HD
* HTC Flyer
* HTC Rhyme
* HTC Desire S
* HTC Salsa
* HTC Desire Z
* Google Nexus One

Cool deal, though no need to post it in both threads really.
Doesn't tell us anything we didn't already know to be honest. Google already said most if not all GB devices should be able to run ICS fine. It was pretty certain the 3D would get it, esp with googles mandate to keep support for devices for X period of time.
Only thing i found a lil interesting is the fact that they put the Nexus One on the list to get ICS but left off the EVO4G.....

The Nexus One being a Google phone, I think it would be almost like a slap to the face to Google if they skipped that one. Plus with it being a true Google experience without sense or anything, it might be fairly easy compared to their other phones.

yeah i get that. the only thing i can think of is HTC is only going to work on ICS for sense 3.0+ devices and thats why they will leave it out of the evo4G. Otherwise they will have to dev for both versions at the same time and thats costly.
Which sucks for them b/c spec wise the phone meets the req. It sucks that sense will get in the way of them updating that device.

Yea. As much as I do like sense. ICS does look pretty badass. I will probably check out the the aosp ROMs to see what its like and I'll probably check it the sense ones as well and just go from there. I love flashing anyway so it will be perfect.

The Salsa is on the list, but the Evo 4G is not? The Nexus One is on there, but the Evo 4G is not (all major components are the same in both).
Odd. Glad I upgrade to the 3D

It won't happen. It's too late in their development process to make sense 4.0 for our devices. There probably already finished with 3.6 they are just waiting for final confirmation and allowance from carriers to push it. Although I'm not sure lol

HTC said that the new image processor is an important part of sense 4.0. So yeah that spec is something our phones don't have. How true that noone will know unless HTC gave us the Sense 4.0 source code.
They said first to that HTC Desire HD wouldnt get Sense 3.0 and it still got it. So who knows we will get Sense 4.0 official to.
We will see then. But I don't worry about an small think like that as there is already an sense 4.0 rom and I'm sure as soon we have official ICS for our device that the devs will make an fully functional sense 4.0 rom.

Important part lol..
They rebuild Sense 4.0 from the ground up! It's based on Sense 2.1 iirc, which is the best Sense version imho. The image crap they put in is nice, but it's more a brand thing.. like "Wow HTC has a dedicated Image Processor for better quality!". You can compare it to the Beats integration, it's cool to have it, but it doesn't add a whole lot to the overall experience.

So you've seen the code and see it's based on sense 2.1? It may look similar but we don't know what's under the hood yet.
I'm sure the bigger reason is they don't want to spend the money to rewrite the code for older phones, or the carriers don't want to split the bill for that work. Plus the non-vocal majority of people who own these phones will be quite upset if their phone UI is changed to something they're not used to. It's similar to Apple not giving you Siri on an Iphone 4 vs 4s. We all know that work is server side so it's not the processor, it's the fact that Apple wants you to buy a 4s vs a 4.
Does it suck, sure, but I can see the reasons on their end they went with sense 3.6 instead. Atleast we're getting ICS and an updated sense.
Better question is what does 4.0 offer that 3.6 does not...exactly.
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
Its true Sense 4.0 is much different from Sense 3.0. And be honest I think its an big change. So I can understand if they not include Sense 4.0 in the updates for HTC Evo 3D and HTC Sensation.
Just wanted to tell those who may be reluctant to try a different rom, its worth the work.

I said the same thing when I finally got ics on my touchpad...on a tablet at least, it is very user friendly, and make for a fun exerience! as far as my evo 3d goes, im just gonna wait a few weeks till we get the official update.... I figure it has to happen really soon, because I am not sure when virgin is releasing their evo3d, but boost is releasing their evo design on the 31st, and their website says it will have 4.0.... There is no way in hell a boost or virgin HTC phone will get ics before sprint ones do

I was running it today and it was pretty good, I'm looking forward to warm four dot zero. 3.6 has amazing battery life and sense 4 has fluidity and a new taste. I'm not a fan of 3.0 with ics, but that battery life is amazing. I got about 10 hours before I got to 10% and I'm a pretty heavy user (a lot of Facebook and Voxer over 3g). Usually my phone would last 8 or 7 hours before it died.

I'm not using a Sense 4.0 ROM (using CleanROM atm), but you are right -- it's like a whole new phone with ICS. I was considering upgrading to a different phone just out of sheer phone boredom, but this ICS has shown me the 3D is still viable for a lot longer.

The Nexus is ok at best, I've tried it and can honestly say that the SII, 3D, and even Note feel more comfortable for usability. Sure, the stock ICS is fluid and is designed around the capabilities of the Nexus, but in the end, you're still playing with a black banana phone with a goofy curved screen.
Sense 4.0 is a huge change over 3.6. If you haven't tried newts Rom do it. 3d and 4g aren't working but you really won't miss them. Although I am surprised that no one has ported the EVO 4g LTE Rom to our device yet. It would be nice to have a full cmda sense 4.0 Rom.

I think it's pretty simple to be free from Sense if that's your preference... get a different phone and stop complaining.
Most people that buy HTC do so because they like Sense UI, above all other factory UI variations... Sense 4 is the best one yet. TouchWiz, MotoBlur, and everything else don't even compare.

It's not about the specs [ie, ram, processor etc]. HTC have stated that all the HTC phones barring the One series don't have certain hardware components that is needed for Sense 4.0. Like the new Camera.

This isnt a debate. You will not be getting Sense 4.0 Officially. So either go flash up a unoficial Rom or just stop posting.
Hey guys, the decision to not update Sense 3.x phones to Sense 4.0 isn't related to technology; it's a business decision. HTC has to weigh the costs and benefits

it is hardware related too.....something called ImageSense is related to hardware components that are new to the entire one series...including the 'weakling' one V.
We will see sense 4.0 custom ROM with all the bells and whistles we want, once we get all the sources for ICS released. Its just a matter of time and these android updates are dragging it all the way.

HTC tends to update Sense when it updates the Android version.
For example, I'm quite sure that the Evo Shift went from Sense 1 to Sense 2.1 when it got updated to Gingerbread, and the Evo 3D got updated from Sense 3.0 to Sense 3.6 when it updated to ICS.
It'll probably be much the same as Sense 4.0/4.1 but it'll have more JB features.
Since this is a jb thread I think sprint is doing a better job w updates. Reason I'm lead to believe this is I just got the update for jb on my gn meanwhile the vzw doesn't have anything official. So as long as sprint does a good job with approving it i think we will see jb by November as long as htc doesn't drag ass. It took 29 days from the one x getting updated to 4.0.4 to us getting it which is a rather quick turn around Imo.

I'm sorry, but Filet Mignon with Sense is still Sense.
im ready!! for some jelly bean babyyy!!!
This ARTICLE has a nice little tidbit of information in it:
Sprint has finally started rolling out Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean to the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and Nexus S 4G. The update starts this evening and will be available to all handsets over the next few weeks.
For those new readers that don’t quite remember the Galaxy Nexus, the device features a 4.65-inch 720p display, a 5-megapixel camera, and Android 4.0 ICS. The Nexus S, on the other hand, is Google's 2010 Android flagship and also runs Android 4.0.
The upgrade, which is standard over-the-air, includes a great deal of improvements with Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean. These include enhancements to the keyboard, a buttery-smooth UI, and more advanced notifications. The update also includes Google Now, Google's answer to Siri.
Sprint also says that it plans to upgrade various other devices to Jelly Bean. including the HTC EVO 4G LTE and Samsung Galaxy S3. We should be hearing more about those updates soon.
Per usual, there will be manual update options available if you don't feel like waiting for the OTA, and you can find the download link and instructions on Know Your Cell as soon as it's posted.
If you're not one for manual updates, Sprint usually rolls these out in phases, so you shouldn't have to way too long. They usualy arrive within a few weeks.
Are you excited about Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean on your Galaxy Nexus and Nexus S 4G?

I don't care if HBoot 1.15 isn't cracked before it's released, I'll still take that update.
So I attempted to port a sense 4.5 ROM based on 4.0.4, not 4.1.1 and it's stuck at the bootanimation and I cant get logcat going to fix anything
Really want to see the changes from 4.1 to 4.5.
For those wondering about the jump from 4.1 to 4.5 this is standard programming practice. This shows there were 4 minor revisions between the two. Those can be anything from adding or removing base apps to fixes or features added in. It is up to the developer to make decisions of what makes for a major upgrade.

I agree. I am not concerned with minor changes to Sense. In some cases you won't want to update anyway because of compatibility with kernel or other reasons.
