OK, this might be a dumb question for some, but i am confused. Which of the two ROMs is the better one? Is Euphoria the next generation Passion? I do not care about GPS but rather stable and bug free ICS ROM. Don't care for customization either...
I am currently on ICS Passion 11b5 and have some issues like, my ringtones stop working every now and then and I need to re-select them in my sounds. Phone is laggy and becomes unresponsive pretty often..
If customization isn't your thing then I'd stick with ICS Passion if I were you. However you should probably update. ICS Passion v13.1 has been out for a while and I hear that that rom coupled with the newest Kiss kernel (Sealed_with_a_kiss #4) make a good pair. You should try that before testing out Euphoria.
Try the AOKP rom, it is similiar to Passion with fewer bugs and less laggy.
If you like MIUI, there are 2 or 3 MIUI V4 roms being worked on. They run solid, just dont allow for much customization at this point.

(Euphoria is AOKP based too. that's where all the customization comes from. Passion was based on CM9)
So the AOKP should be better than both Zenwich and Euphoria then? How come the AOPK Rom's thread is not very big (that's how I judge if a rom is popular)?

Ok, let me make this simple for you to understand.
Zenwich and Euphoria ARE aokp, not AOKP is better. So to make it clear, AOKP Roms are Zenwich, Euphoria, and Milestone 4. And if you judge a rom's popularity based on the number of posts then you're surely mistaken. The reason some roms have more posts than others are because the development of the rom has been out longer. That doesn't mean the rom is better (or more popular). In fact, the best way to judge a rom is by testing it yourself and finding the right one; kinda like buying a pair of shoes, or a car, or a woman.
The ONLY way you're gonna find the BEST rom for you is to take them for a test drive, give them a fair chance and use each one for a few days and see for yourself.
OK, good to know. Yes, I think you are right about the test drive .. and the women .. I guess I should install them and see. The thing is it generally takes some time to setup and configure everything back the way i need. But I will start with Zen probably because it has inverted apps built-in and see how it goes . Thanks!

Well put DJ, and I agree totally!! These people questioning us for opinions on ROMs to choose, need to test them out and experience the ROM for what it is to see if it suits them.
I personally was a diehard Honey Fan of EB's Roms, until the ICS ROM's came out which addressed some issues I was having using SHoney, And Ive been moving forward with a ROM that has everything I WANT, not what other peeps need or desire!!
Again Its a personal choice, and should be made outta what you need and want from a ROM, not popularity!!

This is not a thread for "which one is better."
I've not found anywhere in the i777 forums a description of how the two AOSP roms relate in similarities and differences, something I believe would be a common question.
From my googling, it appears that AOKP has all of the same features as CM9, just with a different interface.
Those of you who know best: care to share your wisdom of other differences?

Thanks for the thread, OP. I had been wondering this myself. I would like to use stock ICS (a la Galaxy Nexus) on my gs2, but CM9 and AOKP seem as close as I'm going to get for now (unless it's out there and I'm just not seeing it). Regardless, CM9 was giving me fits with a couple of games that I like to play and I used AOKP for a couple of hours, but that's about it. I'm not sure which is closer to stock ICS, but I'm told that CM9 is.
College kids nowadays, are so smart. Good for them.

I've leaned more towards using AOKP, it's speedy, feature packed and more stable in comparison to the CM9 Nightlies. Until there's a stable release, I'm sticking with AOKP.
AOKP is really amazing, it's a great work put by people that care a lot about quality.
CM9 is breakthrough, it's the base pillar of several roms and it has really talented people contributing to it. Without CM support many devices wouldn't have AOSP ICS.
Both are great choices no matter which one you pick.
Fortunately we have great guys like atinm, codeworkx, Entropy and task (among others) that make this happen.

Why isnt i777 supported directly by AOKP? Is it because they are on a much smaller scale compared to CM? Will the i777 ever get AOKP direct support at some point? Not that it matters, Task650's Roms is badass as it is but I still wonder why it isnt supported.
I also have used both and I was a huge supporter of CM. I like AOKP better. As it stands right now I think AOKP is more polished and has more features currently. When CM9 comes more along I'm sure it will be equally as good. I flashed CM9 the day before yesterday just to see what progress has been made. I see they merged the custom lockscreen stuff and some other things, but I still found there were some things in AOKP that I missed so I flashed right back to AOKP. The good thing I must say is that both are AOSP and can usually go between the two without wiping data. I went from AOKP, to CM9, back to AOKP without doing a data wipe (just wiped the caches) and everything worked fine

It's a good article but it's quite dated given the number of nightly updates since it was written. CM9 has come a long way in terms of features that have been added:
- Theme manager
- Profiles, which allow you to control features available in the power saver option
- Lock screen shortcut configuration
- Galaxy SII specific advanced features
- Performance options OC, governor, etc.
Right now, other than the weather on the notification bar, you can get pretty much get in CM9 the same features in AOKP.
One thing that AOKP doesn't have is the ability to update to the latest nightly through ROM Manager in a few (4) clicks. That's is a big plus if you are an update junkie.
In any case my recommendation is that you try them both. It's all a matter of personal choice.

It's all about kernel sources. The ICS kernel sources have not been released for the i777, so the AOKP team won't touch it.
This might be a silly question, but what exactly are the differences between the three Jellybean ROMs I see in the dev section (Paranoid, CM10, AOKP)?
None of these seem to have any kind of "feature log" or changelog.
Anyone have any insights?

I'm not trying to be a ****, but you kind of didn't answer my question in any way.
a) What's wrong with AOKP?
b) I know Paranoid is JB, that's why I mentioned it. Are you saying it's stock JB? Kinda confused on the wording here.
c) Obviously, you're a fan of CM10 (aka CMX). What makes it so good compared to the other two? I see the thread for it has more posts (and thus seems to be more popular), but why?
Again, I'm not trying to be difficult. Just hoping to get an answer without having to flash 3 different ROMs.

As much as I am grateful that people are paying attention to this thread and attempting to answer, this is the 2nd non-answer I've received so far.
I know each ROM has different features, that's why I made this thread.
I know CM isn't just straight AOSP.
My issue is that unlike most of the Sense ROMs, these JB ROMs have no feature list at all, and don't even cite any sort of changelog. Thus, I can't make an informed decision on which ROM to flash.

Paranoid: Paranoid Android is an AOSP JB ROM that focuses on the fusion of phone mode and tablet mode. Typically putting a phone into tablet mode would be cool, but some features of tablet mode just don't work that well on a phone. So they've worked on making the tablet mode experience work better on a phone. You can read more about it here.
AOKP: AOKP (Android Open Kang Project) is a highly customized AOSP build that is somewhat similar to CM in that it has a lot of tweaks available to it. AOKP actually has a bit more customization than CM, allowing you to center the clock, add the day of the week to the clock, weather in your notification menu, and a few other neat tricks. You can read more about it here.
CM10: CyanogenMod is the most popular custom Android ROM around, with a very large user base. It supports many different devices. We just recently received official support, meaning we will get official releases and nightlies on a daily basis. This is a plus for CM, because we don't have official support for AOKP and Paranoid, which means we might not always get the newest updates. All three are great ROMs, and at this point they have mostly the same bugs. I would personally suggest CM10 because the development for it is a bit more active and I've noticed better battery life and less buggyness while running that over AOKP.

SoraX did a great job of explaining the main goals/differences between the ROMS>
The reason there isnt a changelog is because at this point the developers are more focused on getting things working 100%. Its the nature of the beast.

Just out of curiousity, I see many developments between the JB CM based roms, however, am curious to know the difference between each rom? Other than the MIUI version, I can't really tell what's the difference between say CNA and XenonHD. Where can I go to understand the roms better?

personal preference is the ley here. youll find each phone might react differently with each rom. and othera have thir opinions
you aint the only one ripper - i've tried 3 JB roms and not really noticed much between them visually or performance wise.
started on jokers, then epinters and then one of th3bills ports... all based on jokers base anyway and i;ve gone back to that one as it caused the least problems.
Guys, I've lost touch with this thread since I've gone to the Note II on Verizon. I am wanting to give my brother my old Note since he has AT&T and the phone is just sitting unused, but I left my previous Note being a mess with force closes and all and he is not good with technology so I want the most stable ROM for him that I can overclock too. Any recommendations on ROM's and Kernels? I would like Jelly Bean if possible. Suggestions would be appreciated and then I'll check them out. Thanks.

No, but it does mean that if you ask the question of 10 people, you'll get 10 different answers back. Some people will flash a new ROM, not have a reboot in 24 hours, and consider that "stable". It doesn't sound like the OP's brother will care about a rooted phone or running custom ROMs, so reverting it back to stock will probably be best for him.

I haven't had time but am on a week long vacation and really want to do this now. Stock is not really the answer I want. I would like to know the most stable ROM made that keeps all the Samsung apps and S Pen usability, but even more than that is running Jelly Bean. Can anyone point me to which posts to look at and decide, or just give me their opinion on them if they use them. And what is the best kernel for that, cause I would like to overclock. I will start looking myself, but would love to hear some opinions, not just "stick to stock". I have ran many, many ROMs over the years that were pretty stable without being stock. I am just out of touch with the Note 1 as I have had the Note 2 for awhile and hadn't done anything to my Note 1 in quite some time. I believe I was running Paranoid Android (charging it now) but would prefer a closer to stock based ROM. Thanks. I cant offer you a JB stock build for our note 1, because that build does not exist.
Since kernel source for JB has not been released, we are forced to use the JB framework blobs, combined with a modified ICS kernel.
This leaves us a broken rom, that has many working features, and is for the most part stable. But like all custom builds, leaves us with some bugs.
The "leave it stock" statement is not meant to be offensive. It simply is the truth at this point, as we have no official, "stable" JB builds. Although this site does offer many high quality JB variant builds. And no one person can tell you the best one, as our usage habits differ so greatly. You simply need to read the threads, and base your opinion on the user reports from the threads.
It is our hope that Samsung will release an update for us, and open the door on some amazing JB work. but until that happens, we will have bugs, and broken functionality.
I use a very nice ICS build on occasion, as I feel that it offers the best performance, balanced with a feature rich rom.
FlappJaxxx UCLF6 build #12 is my top pick at the moment.
Unfortunately, the rules prevent my linking the rom directly for you, as the developer is no longer on XDA. but his works can be found at rootdev.org in it's complete form. and I for one feel that until we see an official update, no better ICS/ JB variant work can be found than his.
and I'm sure that if/when the update comes, the same will be said for his quality of builds in the JB framework and beyond.
He has true talent for building outstanding code. And you are well served using his wares. I hold much respect for Flappjaxxx, despite his leaving XDA. And I'm greatful to have his work at my disposal.

Use the kernel already present in the rom...
And use the UCLF6 modem.....g
I'd recommend ptmr3's Padawan V8 7005 Base OR Padawan 5.1 UCLF6 . I've been running Padawan ROMs for 5 months and they all have been pretty stable. Take a look! :good:
Flapjaxxxx's FJKang is really stable, along with his h0tcakez kernel. It's 4.2.2 JB, too.
One of my favorite roms is definitely AOCP 4.1.2. Not the latest jb but by far one of the most stable roms I've ever used.

Yes, but the 4.1.2 build. That one is 4.2.2 and while it is pretty stable I still find the 4.1.2 version to be a bit more solid. There's a link to older builds in that thread I believe.
I am not an expert. I know very little about these ROMs.
I AM A USER.
I always look for a stable but capable, and fast ROM. I love some of the freedoms these flashes give to me, and some of the "flow" of using my phone is better when stupid stuff is turned off and productive stuff is turned on and preinstalled.
Everyone is different and that is why many EXPERTS here will suggest trying each one.
For me, I do NOT like flashing. I do it when I feel there is a reasonable step forward or I hit issues and support dwindles for my current ROM.
All that said... Today...
I am pretty happy with flapp jaxxx and jellybeer.

Surely AOKP won't be the winner by a longshot.
The list should probably be condensed a bit. Like including both paranoid android rom's into the same category, maybe merging the ones that build from the CM10.1 source into a single category.

The list should probably be condensed a bit. Like including both paranoid android rom's into the same category, maybe merging the ones that build from the CM10.1 source into a single category.

At the beggining I just made an option for paranoid, but then I checked both threads and there were a couple of ppl using each one, so I though, why not separate them. In order to include the changes you said, I think it must be a moderator who does that, i'm not sure but I can't find how to edit the poll (never made one...). Thanks.
I was thinking of a poll to see one option you're missing is 'Stock Rom' Would be nice to also graph users that aren't using a custom rom and are instead just using google's official one.
And there should be a 'Other - please list your rom' option as a good chunk of people won't vote without 2 options if there not applicable to them so its going to be skewed for stats without them.
I think CleanROM should be included in the poll, as it's a quite popular ROM.

In theory it was there, i'm not sure why it isn't. Totally failed doing my first poll lol. Any clue if I can edit the poll or it must be an admin?
I use Pac on my nexus 10 and also on my sgs2, because i think PA is very useful especially on the nexus, but it´s nut enough customisation, so the mixture between PA and AOKP is great.
So i only can advise you to give PACman a try

Think the admins/mods need to edit the poll hopefully they will be nice enough to do so as this poll would be worthwhile for all of us here with nexus 10's
I sent a non urgent report so the mods can see it and hopefully be nice enough to update the thread.

I must say, I'm pretty stoked with 2nd place so far!!
Been testing different ROMs like Roobox, Tasker, Liquidsmooth, I am using Carbon for now. I like AOKP too will try Sentinel next. So many ROMs to try too much fun.
Don't forget kaos droid... Awesome rom and the dev is very willing to add custom features
I've tried nearly everyone on the list. But I always end up going back to the AOKP PUB builds. I fluctuate between the builds by Bigxie and Mr. Robinson - depending on who has a more recent build. No other ROM I've used has all the customization options I'm looking for (including my #1 must-have Tablet UI) as well as including the increased speed and fluidness. With that said, it's great they there's so many options for the device. It's one of the reason I love Nexus devices.
I liked pacrom but had to switch back to paranoid android because ps3 controller wouldn't connect to sixaxis

Start off with aokp pub build or task650 both are smooth but try them all and see which one is to your liking
